Barbuto Opens Brooklyn Hotel Restaurant by Jonathan Waxman | Eater NY

"Inside the 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, this Brooklyn Heights offshoot keeps the California Italian playbook going for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with familiar Barbuto plates like the roasted chicken with salsa verde (JW pollo al forno), the kale salad, and gnocchi in hazelnut pesto. New additions include the Pizza Brooklyn—a pie topped with Acme smoked salmon, avocado, crème fraîche, and caviar—and the Pasta Bambini, a fettuccine with butter and Parmesan. The big 210-seat space pairs industrial details with greenery, and there’s also the Barbuto Garden offering its own bites and beers menu. Jonathan Waxman first opened Barbuto in 2004 in the West Village and reopened it in 2021 in a new neighborhood location, before bringing it over the river to Brooklyn." - Nadia Chaudhury

The Best New Restaurants in NYC

"Housed in a very glassy, huge space at the bottom of the 1 Hotel, Jonathan Waxman’s new iteration is an ideal spot for parents—whether they’re visiting adult children or feeding toddlers—with a comfortable room, a “pasta bambini” on the menu, and Brooklyn Bridge Park right outside if a kid needs to walk off a meltdown. Waxman’s classics have been ported over well enough: pollo al forno remains the city’s most agreeable roast chicken, and the waterfront setting brings a few seafood additions such as pizza al mare, a garlicky clam pie topped with Maine lobster and shrimp." - Grub Street

The place itself feels relaxing and very pleasant — lots of live green plants, soft sunlight that makes it feel like a greenhouse, and great background music. The service is attentive and calm. The food is average. The fish tartare wasn’t marinated enough for my taste — it lacked a bit of salt and spice. Other dishes were fine but nothing memorable. Around 4–5 pm it’s pretty quiet, which makes it perfect for an early dinner.

Love the location and the food is excellent. The pizza uvo for me is the star of the brunch menu. Very nice looking restaurant and the staff is friendly and courteous. If you're at the foot of Brooklyn bridge come by and enjoy the view and the food.

What can I say. Superior food, even more superior service. A lovely and highly welcomed addition to the dumbo/ bk heights neighborhood where at times can feel like a bit of a food desert. I had a really wonderful experience at Barbuto bk tonight. The space is absolutely gorgeous and they had the doors open to the park which heightened the already beautiful ambiance. From the hostess who placed me to a gorgeous table with a gorgeous view of the park, to my server who was so passionate about the menu, to of course the incredible sommelier Travis who just continuously checked in on my meal and experience, gave me a fantastic tutorial on different wines and was just supremely lovely to speak with - Barbuto BK will be a neighborhood gem and I am confident a neighborhood staple. Cannot wait to visit again soon and bring more friends with me for next time around. And truly, huge shoutout to Travis - you can tell when someone brings in love and warmth to a restaurant space and to its staff. He’s a special one. And with his lead and style, he’s what’s going to transform this space to a beloved neighborhood gem. It brings all the cozy west village feels. Excited for the road ahead, Barbuto. Welcome to Brooklyn! ♥️

In A Nutshell: -Barbuto is a really good place to warm up & enjoy a great breakfast while taking in the view of the Brooklyn Bridge. -Their Montauk Shrimp & Grits tasted freshly caught & the added poached eggs are a nice touch. -The American Breakfast features several large, crispy bacon, crunchy sourdough, a flat hand sized hash brown & a couple of eggs your preferred way. Overall, the service here is outstanding, especially Tarren. She represents the city extremely well! Tarren it UP!!

Had an amazing night out at Barbuto. The hospitality and service was unmatched—particularly from the assistant general manager Mariela and our server Albano. This restaurant has only been open for a few weeks, and it’s clear that they are at the top of their game. We had the focaccia, meatballs, and kale salad to start and it was the perfect appetizer for 2. We followed by sharing the honeynut squash gnocchi—a delicious seasonal dish recommended by Mariela. Then we had the duck breast and the chicken, with sides of roasted potatoes and broccoli rabe. The meat was tender, juicy, and perfectly cooked. The chicken is quite a large portion for 1, so it makes a great sharing option or leftovers for later. Finally we shared two desserts: the pear crostata and pistachio cake. Both excellent. We left happy and full. Will definitely be back.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Just visited the newly opened Barbuto Brooklyn at 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, and it exceeded all expectations. The space feels modern yet still carries the warmth and soul that makes Barbuto so iconic. The food was fantastic from start to finish. The Crudo was bright and refreshing, the meatballs were exactly as comforting and flavorful as I remembered, and the roast chicken is a must. We also loved the focaccia and every dessert we tried. It’s such a treat to now have Barbuto in Brooklyn—I can already see this becoming a regular spot. Five stars without hesitation!

Google
An absolute A+. My wife and I walked the Brooklyn Bridge to view the Sunday night sunset, which was awesome. Little did we know we would have an equally amazing dinner. Walking around to different restaurants my wife picked a new one - which we love to do. For dimmer, my wife had the gnocchi and I had the Rigate. Before we ordered, however, we needed to pick wine. Having walked almost 10 miles, my brain was done and I needed help. The waiter, also terrific service and awareness, asked if I would like to talk with their sommelier, and I said yes. Special note here, it isn’t always automatic that a waiter recognizes to call out that the restaurant has a sommelier. Good call on his part. And over came Travis. I told him what my wife and I would have for dinner and we’d like a versatile red wine to go with either meal. He recommended a fantastic non DOCG Sangiovese that paired spectacularly with the food. Simply amazing food, ambiance, and service. My wife and I will be coming back and we highly recommend this resistant. Tell Travis we sent you. Jeffery

Recently visited the new barbuto near Brooklyn bridge and had the most amazing experience. Everything we ordered was incredible, thanks to the recommendations made by my server grace. I’d recommend this restaurant if you want to have a real epicurean experience in nyc!

Yelp
My husband and I just finished a delicious dinner at Barbuto. We sat in the bar area overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge, so romantic! Our very knowledgeable and charming bartender River took great care of us. He recommend some delicious dishes (carpaccio and the skirt steak) and made a killer Negroni. River also recommended perfect pairing wines which we thoroughly enjoyed. We'll be back!

Yelp
This place is less than a week old but already impressive. It used to be The Osprey at One Hotel but under new management with a new menu etc. We came on Sunday and sat outside with the dog and were well looked after by Britney. The tuna carpaccio was chefs kiss delicious and my swordfish was cooked to perfection. So tender and juicy. My friend got the veggie bolognese which was not good at all. Avoid! And almost made this a 4 star, but the tiramisu and the fact the manager came over to make sure everything was going ok put this back up to 5. The tiramisu is the best I've tasted outside of Italy. I'll be back!

Yelp
5/5 stars! Absolutely would recommend to everyone! The food was incredible and the service from Nash was phenomenal! We tried the chicken, seafood salad and tiramisu, and the pizza al mare was sooooooo good. Definitely a must try in Dumbo!

Yelp
Great location but mediocre food! I'll start with the positive - the location in the Brooklyn Bridge Park is lovely especially if the weather is nice and you can eat outside. Also waiter, Akshay, was great. He was nice, efficient and helpful. Now on to the negative ... First, our food took forever to come out of the kitchen and our waiter had to apologize several times. The restaurant was only about 60% full and the kitchen was unbelievably slow. In addition, the kitchen informed our waiter that my swordfish was no longer available only after about 25 minutes after I gave my order! Now on to the quality of the food. My husband and I started with a salad which had a dressing that was so acidic that it ruined the flavor of the greens. My husband's vegetarian bolognese had no taste, which was amazing for an Italian restaurant. To add insult to injury, my side dish of broccolini was served totally cold. The only nice dish was my tilefish, which was properly cooked and seasoned. Our waiter graciously offered us a pistachio cake to compensate for the wait and all the disappointments but, alas, that too was a disappointment. The cake was covered and filled with the type of pure sugar icing from my childhood and there was hardly any flavor of pistachio. We live 5 minutes from Barbuto Brooklyn and were excited to be getting a nice restaurant in our food starved neighborhood but we won't be going back.

Yelp
Had a really great experience at this new restaurant in Dumbo. The service was attentive and very empathetic. Its refreshing to see people so passionate about what they do. The Roast chicken does not disappoint, and the kale salad is a great take on a Ceasar salad. I really enjoyed the budino for dessert, a decadent chocolate pudding, a small pot enough for two. We dined outside and had beautiful views of the Brooklyn Bridge. Really a spectacular evening.

Yelp
If I can give the restaurant 0 stars I WOULD! This restaurant is a 0 for everything except This place is stealing your money, giving you shit food....chicken, pork, pasta dishes....all terrible. This is joke Italian food. It's all a fancy, expensive gimmick. DO NOT give this restaurant your business- you will be disappointed. it doesn't deserve to be high priced restaurant in DUMBO Brooklyn. A hole in the wall spot with a proven reputation for A FRACTION of the price, has food 1000x better than this place. Don't get me started on the service! It's like these waiters and waitresses never served a table before. Every table was getting wrong dishes and they barely tried to fix anything. The whole place was a mess. There were a million staff workers around, and no one was doing anything. This place just looks like another money grabbing restaurant looking to look the part and lure patrons in but not deliver on food or service. They do not deserve a spot in the one hotel and they certainly will NOT make it in this spot. I can't wait for them to shut down and move on bc they're honestly a waste of space in this area. They're also SNEAKY!! WATCY THE BILL...we ordered a plate without dairy in it bc we have one dairy allergy. Of course, they completely disregarded it and gave it with cheese in it. We had to send it back for the obvious reasons and they gave us a new one. On the bill, if we ordered 2 of something it would say "item x 2" on the receipt. When we ordered the pasta- They SEPARATED the charges on our long group bill and hid the second pasta charge somewhere else hoping we would miss it and pay. NOTHING ABOUT THIS PLACE IS ATTRACTIVE, DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS MONEY HUNGRY SPOT. Chef Jonathan waxman is a sham.

Yelp
Maybe the Manhattan location is as excellent as they say, but we went here for brunch and it was just...bad. We got the sense they were having growing pains from just opening, but it was overwhelmingly mediocre food (and service). As context, we're all locals, and decided to try the restaurant because someone in our party had booked a massage at the hotel for their birthday and we figured we'd go to the connected restaurant for brunch, despite being fans of the many excellent local eateries in the area. That was a mistake. The good: we were a larger party and the staff didn't rush us when two of our party showed up late. And everyone was generally pretty nice. The space is beautiful. The drip coffee is okay. And the toast is good. The bad: Where to begin. We ordered the American breakfast, the avocado toast, and the scrambled eggs with truffle. The first two were mediocre but not offensive -- just very bland. Like continental breakfast quality. The scrambled eggs with truffle ($28) were just offensive. The table next to us had ordered a side of scrambled eggs and they were the same size as the truffle egg entree, which came with two scrambled eggs and a tiny amount of sprinkled truffle flakes (not the nice large slices you would expect for the portion). All the other egg entrees came with toast and this was just a small plate of eggs. When we flagged for the waiter and asked if we were missing something, he assured us that we must have gotten the side order instead of the entree, and then came back looking somewhat guilty to confirm that this was, in fact, our entree. When we ordered toast to supplement, it came out burnt--like, black burnt. The espresso drinks had a weird metallic taste. The poached egg on our avocado toast was cold. You get the picture. As an aside, we thought they were appropriately handling a dairy and berry allergy, but then the servers placed the only berry dish in front of the person with a berry allergy, and then looked confused when we asked them to confirm which American breakfast entree was dairy free (since two identical ones were delivered to the table). At that point, we were eager to just get out of there, but I think we were all somewhat disappointed that our friend who was celebrating a birthday got no acknowledgement from the staff. For a luxury hotel like the 1Hotel, that was pretty surprising and was the final nail in the coffin. So: the headline is, go to Colonie, go to Boutros, even just go get a pastry from Breads around the corner and walk along the promenade. Go anywhere but here.

Yelp
By all means avoid for breakfast. This is NOT a place to go to start your day. The "Scrambled Eggs with Wild Mushrooms" that I ordered as an entree turned out to be a single overcooked egg with a few pieces of mushroom served on a tiny side plate. No salad, no toast or anything else included. They two people I was with had ordered the same. Fortunately we also shared a large chopped kale salad. I guess their forte is lunch and dinner. They shouldn't be serving breakfast. The restaurant that formerly occupied this space was a much better choice for that.

Yelp
The service (Raul) was outstanding friendly, attentive, and made us feel truly welcome. The lobster pasta was incredible ,perfectly cooked, rich, and full of flavor. Definitely one of the best meals I've had in a while!
