"Barbuto, a West Village Italian restaurant famous for its roast chicken with salsa verde, has a second location in the 1 Hotel in Dumbo. They also recently opened Bar Tizio, a wine bar in the West Village. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Will Hartman
"Opened in 2004 and built its reputation on a breezy Californian Italian menu—centered on items such as the famous roast chicken with salsa verde, a garlicky kale salad, and pastas like gnocchi. The restaurant closed in 2019 because the building’s new owners didn’t want a restaurant, but Waxman was determined to relocate: it reopened in a new West Village address in 2020 (briefly), paused for the pandemic, and fully reopened in 2021. Waxman, who is from California and worked under Alice Waters in the 1970s, consistently draws on that California influence." - Nadia Chaudhury
"Barbuto reopened on Wednesday, October 13th. The longstanding West Village restaurant moved into a new space on Horatio Street right before lockdown in spring 2020 (and has been closed since). Yes, the famous chicken with salsa verde is still on the menu, along with a couple pastas, roast vegetables, and other shareable Italian-leaning snacks. Reservations are available online, but so far there’s limited availability." - hannah albertine
"Barbuto used to be on Washington Street in a space with big garage doors that would open in the summertime. Now, the restaurant is a little further west on Horatio Street, and it's pretty much the same. So if you never made it over to the original iteration, plan a meal here. The famous chicken with salsa verde is still on the menu, and it's still something you should eat. We're also fans of the stuffed, cheesy meatballs and smoked salmon pizza that makes you feel like you're eating in Beverly Hills circa 1984. The big, industrial space is fun and lively, and reservations are actually pretty attainable." - bryan kim, will hartman
