Creole Cuisine Restaurant Concepts Plots New Restaurant at Old Barreca’s Spot | Eater New Orleans

"Renovations have begun on a new, still-unnamed Creole-Italian seafood restaurant planned for the former Barreca’s site in Metairie; it will open this spring. The 5,500-square-foot space will seat about 160, and the parking lot will expand after the removal of several buildings. Plans for a Creole-Italian seafood concept at this property date back to October 2016, when Creole Cuisine Restaurant Concepts bought the Barreca’s property, and CCRC has said its team is looking forward to bringing a Seafood Creole-Italian menu to Metairie Road." - Stephanie Carter

I'll start by saying it is a great presentation. Very clean and elegant. The drinks are great. We had an espresso martini, Super Bock, and of course some Ginjinha. The food was absolutely delicious! From the fresh bread and cheese, to the rack of lamb, and my favorite, the francesinha! We cannot recommend this place enough. We will return!

Great food and delicious drinks! Our waiter was so nice and attentive. Would definitely come back!

Atmosphere was very nice, and the food was delicious. The staff was also very nice and welcoming. I think I found my new favorite Portuguese restaurant. Update 2/15/25 I tried the Whiskey and Espresso Bife and it was amazing. The sauce was delicious and steak cooked perfectly. See last photo Can’t wait to come back!

Google
First time at this restaurant. First impression a nice Portuguese restaurant which was smaller than I thought but had a nice vibe. I’ll post some pictures so you can see. They seemed to have a wall with a large wine selection. I had a sparkling moscato which was delicious. The staff seemed friendly maybe family run service was a little slow I’m guessing maybe short staffed. The menus seemed rather pricey but we all enjoyed are meals. Each plate was a good portion. We had pork and little necks it came with 4 little necks, lamb chops, beef cooked for 6 hours it did have some fat on it but seemed to melt off as you ate it. Beans and Chourico dish which was also flavorful but seemed more like a side dish than an entree to me. Overall I liked the atmosphere and food but difficult if your on a budget. Also they served bread and butter and cheese and bread both with a charge. What I wasn’t a fan of was the water they served us it tasted fine but the bottle was $8.00 which we only found out about on the bill.

Google
This is a quaint place for Portuguese dining. The tables were beautifully set with white tablecloths. I ordered the House Salad, Whiskey & Espresso Bife, & tiramisu. The flavors were delicious. The serving staff were very kind & attentive. Absolutely loved it here.

Google
We visited on a Wednesday and were the only couple there at 6 pm until two other couples arrived about 30 minutes later; so it was very quiet. The menu choices were abundant, and our meals were excellent (Barca Seafood & Polvo a Barca). Service was friendly and timely. Yes you do pay for the bread and cheese that they offer when you sit down (just like Portugal!). We enjoyed chatting with the owner about Portugal. Definitely worth a return visit when we are in the area again in the future.

Google
My family and I come here every few weeks. We love Barca. The ambiance, the service and the food are all 10/10. The bacalhau a bras is better than what I’ve had in Portugal. My parents adore the steaks, the feijoada, the fish. One time we ordered a Portuguese soup for my 1 year old niece, and they blended it so it was easier for her to eat. Lovely owners, lovely drinks, amazing food. If you’ve never been here, you’re missing out.

Google
I had the Portuguese steak, my husband had the whiskey and espresso steak, both were cooked perfectly and had plenty of flavor. The cheese and bread to start were just right. Service was friendly and food came out quick for the love that was clearly put in. Espresso was great too. We'll be back 😊

Yelp
Tonight was our first time at BarCa and it was amazing! Definitely a small hidden gem in Fall River. The food and wine were excellent. The place is small and the service is slowly paced, but if you're looking for a romantic night or a night of catching up with friends, it's perfect! The house red wine was excellent - full bodied and smooth. For meals, we got the shrimp Mozambique, the chicken Mozambique and the tuna. All three of us LOVED our meals! The Mozambique sauce is perfectly seasoned. For dessert, we split the chocolate cake, which was also very good.

Yelp
Food was excellent. The decor is very nice and bright. Noisy, but only because it is a small space. Best to make a reservation. They charge $6 for a basket of 4 pieces of white bread, but what was upsetting is we asked for water and they charged us $8 for a bottle of water. Would have been nice to know we had the option to just get water in a glass without them putting down a bottle and charging a ridiculous price for it.

Yelp
The food is very good and the service is excellent. And they have delicious octopus. and apart from that you have a great time

Yelp
Food great. Service friendly. Cute little restaurant with a great outdoor patio dining.

William W.

Yelp
One of our favorite restaurants. Good food and good service. A hidden gem. Small and well appointed. A family business run by the owner and his wife.

Yelp
Very friendly staff, we stopped in before an event and were immediately welcomed into an inviting and clean ambiance. Our group enjoyed an array of appetizers and beverage's and we're excited to come back to try the desserts.

Yelp
OMG! This place is a hidden gem in Fall River. It was so clean and the decor was absolutely beautiful. The owner was a sweetheart too. I got the piri pi chicken with linguine and my boyfriend got the short rib special. The short rib fell off the bone, literally amazing. The peri pi chicken was so good I already want to come back and get it again. I don't eat seafood and I got just chicken with mine, which was made no issues at all! Really really loved this place and we will absolutely be back.

Melissa R.

Yelp
The place is beautiful. Service was ok. Cheese plate was phenomenal, but the taste of our steak and ribs were not flavorful at all. The portions were small. We came in with just my husband and I, we sat at the bar and for the first half hour we were the only guest in the place. With a party of two, the owner who was behind the bar decided to add his own $26.96 tip. So unprofessional and not what was expected. He ended up with double the tip because we did not realize a tip was already submitted and we put a tip as well. Will save my money and never come here again.

Yelp
A bit disappointed. I'm going to be honest. The food is very good, tasty and fresh. But INSANELY OVERPRICED for the portions you get!! I'm disgusted with how small the appetizers were for a Portuguese restaurant and ridiculous price!! There was a full house on Mother's Day with one waitress. Made a reservation for 5.... Didn't get seated until 6. But, The owner was apologetic.got a little neck appetizer that usually comes with at least 12 everyone else.... Only got 9! The drink took about 15 minutes to come out. Entres were delicious but again.... Way over priced compared to other equally great restaurants in the area. Good food, horrible pricing. Restaurant is small, but comfortable. Tables are well spaced.

Yelp
Love it This place is so cute Beautiful and so peaceful I really recommend it I enjoy the food the drins everything

Yelp
5/23/21 We Found this hidden/small upscale place by a chance. Amazing, beautiful decor, friendly waiter, great Food and huge wine selection! We had the calamari for appetizers, nice and brown on the outside but super fresh & thick on the inside. I had the Salmon(perfectly done)and fiancée had the Shrimp Mozambique(he said that's no difference than anywhere else)!

Nelly A.

Yelp
Everything that we ordered was delicious. We had the bread and cheese, house red wine, filet mignon gnocchi (special), surf and turf, shrimp mozambique, BarCa seafood, tiramisu, flan, and rice pudding. Been to Portuguese restaurants in Tiverton, RI and New Bedford. BarCa is hands down the best!

Yelp
It was our 1st time there and it won't be the last. The servers were attentive and kind. I was greeted with a wonderful Portuguese welcome. My husband and I were very delighted with our service and meals. We started with a homemade cheese and calamari both were excellent especially the cheese. My husband and I decided to share a salad and octopus special. We were glad we did. The octopus special was more than enough for two people. It was cooked perfectly. It was tender, and the sauce that it came in was outstanding! We ended our meal with the flan that tasted just as good as my mom's. The only downside was that we left our leftovers on the table.

Yelp
This place is amazing!! The food is delicious!! The staff and Luis the owner went above and beyond to make sure we had an amazing experience. I rarely leave Yelp reviews but if you get the chance give this place a try!

Yelp
Excellent Portuguese food! Traveling from California and wanted to experience authentic Portuguese cuisine. Highly recommend this restaurant and bar

Yelp
We had a lovely Sunday lunch. It was fantastic!! Food is cooked to order and arrives slowly but prepared with love! Flavors are delicious! The chef was heavy handed with salt but not unpleasant. Fresh Portuguese rolls mopped up the tasty broths. The little necks were divine!!

Angela C.

Yelp
Lamb chops were to die for -and I'm Greek so I know a thing or two about lamb :) Very tasty. Not gamey at all (which is what a lot of people complain about when it comes to lamb). Restaurant also had one of my favorite wines- Silk and Spice. Restaurant, including bathroom, looked clean. It wasn't busy when we were there so can't comment on how loud the place gets when it's at capacity. Owner personally waited on us. Very attentive and personable. Highly recommend.

Yelp
The boy waiter here is absolutely terrible. I had to reprimand him, like I was his daddy, for completely ignoring our table and doing "dump and run" with our appetizers. When our entrées Finally arrived, they came one at a time over a 10 minute period. Awful! Food was fantastic tho...

Malabise C.

Yelp
Went to this place for the second time.....was flabbergasted by the prices of their dishes which were no different, from many other Portuguese restaurants within feet of this one. They charged us for the bread basket! (we're not in Europe), one of our dishes (Bacalhau a Bras) which normally is a moderately priced meal in all other restaurants, was priced at $27. There was very little codfish and the minimal pieces I found, hidden in a huge plate of french fries, instead of sautéed they were boiled and with the skin left on them. Horrible. A glass of house wine was $12! a dessert $12! Prices were unacceptable. There are great Portuguese restaurants all around this city, no reason to go to Barca. The place inside is cute but nothing special, and practically empty for the 2 hours we were there. Will not return and I suggest people looking for a nice Portuguese meal, to drive 5 minutes in any direction and you will find a much better experience for a much more realistic and fair price.

Yelp
This place is AWESOME! A family owned and operated restaurant where the the owner and his daughter took such great care of us. The food and wine were excellent. Highly recommend!

Kristin R.

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful inside , the decor is everything! Clean and pristine! Excellent bar selection even better than Providence. Cozy modern and sophisticated. Louise is very nice and welcoming excellent service! The food is impeccable and homemade! Cant wait to come back! A must try!

Yelp
This review is based solely on the food as the order was delivered as I have been wanting to try it. The food was solid, portions were small and under seasoned. Not a bad meal but based on flavor and portion sizes there are better Portuguese options in area. Not in a rush to eat here again.
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
My friend grew up in the area and my mother was in town so on our way to another restaurant we decided to try a new place and stopped her. And ... Eat here! Yum. Wow. I got the chicken and my mom the shrimp Mozambique. It was so so good, I mean even the rice is delicious! They had a very nice high chair for my son to use and were very warm and accommodating. The restaurant itself is very modern and appealing!

Lisa B.

Yelp
Services was not good but the food made up for it. If the ow we had a designated bartender instead of the waiters doing all the food and drinks it would run much better.
google avatar

Andrew W.

Yelp
The food is just ok. The service was not terrible. However I went on a Sat night and the place was empty. The owners had family hanging out which included a child running around the restaurant which made for a somewhat unpleasant environment. I would not go back.

Yelp
Went on a Monday with just my bf, the place only had a few groups that came after us. It was quiet and not busy. Waited 20 min to order, waited 45min after ordering to ask on an update on our food because we haven't been checked on for a while and we ran out of water. We were told it'll be right out. 15 min later the group that came after us and ordered after us started receiving their food. So we decided to ask to pay for our drinks to leave because we were so hangry by then. They then said the food was done and if we still wanted it and so we asked for it to go. After waiting almost 2 hours and being ignored we were charged full price for everything with no apology. Such a shame because the food was good but the lack of communication was so frustrating.

Yelp
Great updated family run restaurant. Loved our time there. Food, environment and service was great!!!

Ton L.

Yelp
Went here on a week night for a business dinner. Food was excellent. The was great too. Came to the table and introduced himself. Their fresh cheese is probably the best I've had. It's house made. They have an excellent wine selection and the owner is very knowledgeable.

Yelp
Sat at the bar, had shrimp alinho, polvo, and cabrito. All so delicious. Perfectly cooked. This is where Cinderella used to be, but same owners, they just revamped the interior and changed the name. The bar was comfortable, great selection of wine. Will definitely be back.

Jake M.

Yelp
Made a reservation for 7pm, did not get seated until 7:45. Service was terrible, waitress got us drinks and took orders and never came back to the table again. Manager does not care about the guests unless he knows them previously. Took an hour and a half after ordering to get the food. Food was pretty good. Would not recommend coming here if you are in Fall River, go to Calderias or Sagres If your looking for authentic Portuguese food and service.

Yelp
Great hospitality! Don't come here if you are in a rush to eat dinner. This place is more of a relax, spend some time, and enjoy dinner. Extensive wine list, Whiskey, and the food is great too.

Larry M.

Yelp
Excellent food. Extremely clean. Very attentive wait staff. Food is made to any dietary specifications that you need. Exceptionally decorated with an outdoor patio in the warm weather. Jules and Kyle are always warm and welcoming and go above and beyond in their service. Highly recommend the Chicken Mozambique or Alentejuana. Fresh goat cheese, little necks, and whiskey steak dish!

Yelp
Wow! That's the first word that comes to mind when trying to write a review about this restaurant. We started with the BarCa Garlic Shrimp (amazing and perfectly cooked!) and then both of us had the Bife A BarCa (perfectly done). On top of delicious Portuguese cuisine, they have an AMAZING bourbon selection. My husband and I have traveled around New England searching for rare bourbons, and we got to check off several on our list with Luis. The entire staff was wonderful, but Luis stole the show. A wonderful host - we began to feel more like we were being welcomed to his home bar instead of a restaurant. If you want authentic, delicious Portuguese cuisine paired with wonderful hosts, wine and spirits, search no further - BarCa is THE spot in Fall River to check out.

Debbie C.

Yelp
I can't say enough about how wonderful everything was. the food, the atmosphere and the service were all outstanding. the decor was beautiful and everything was very clean. I wish it was closer to Malden.

Yelp
Decided to head to BarCa last night with my mother and two of her friends. Been here before and the food was fantastic. We made reservations for 6:30, and when we got there there were 2 other parties outside where we sat. there was one other seated table inside; basically they were not busy. Let me start by saying that the inside of BarCa is beautifully designed/decorated, and the outside area has major potential, but is a total let down. Our table was plastic, wobbly, and overall dinky. There is little airflow and feels like a sauna even at night. Also, the ridiculous multicolored umbrellas throws off the entire ambiance. There is no need for umbrellas in the evening/night as there is no sun shining in the area. Next, we were not greeted by the waiter; Instead, what appeared initially to be the bus boy stood awkwardly near out table, again without even a hello, until we asked for some water. Not sure if this was a family member, friend, whomever, but this kid has absolutely no waitering skills. We ordered all of our food around 7pm, and although we got bread and our appetizers quickly, we did not get our food until 8:15pm. OH and the waiter brought out each dish one by one... and I couldn't help but notice his extremely dirty fingernails as he placed down 4 individual dishes one by one in a time span of about 10 minutes. The food was delicious though, that is the definite highlight of this place. I had the carne alentjana and it was pretty much perfect. Kudos to the chef, since it seems like there is only one person working the kitchen. The owner spent his time mingling with the tables, but didn't seem much help to this kid waiter. Someone help this guy! The "white sangria" tasted more like Tang than anything else, didn't even get a buzz off of it. The bartender also had the personality of a doorknob. Don't they realize that the tip is greater if they just put in some kind of effort?! I will be back solely based on the delicious food, but I am hoping the restaurant management staff will train up their employees.

Dee J M.

Yelp
Come here at 5pm if you plan on eating at 8pm. Service is terrible. Huge wine list, but didn't have the one I chose, so they chose one for me, and said it was the same. Not a fan and will not be back.

Bre M.

Yelp
This place has a great old world feel with the food and service to back it up. Everything from the cod fish cake appetizers to the passion fruit dessert is homemade and delicious. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a night out enjoying good food, wine, and hopefully company!
