Best LGBTQ and Gay Bars in Houston, Texas | Eater Houston

"See the rainbow barcode and flag on the side of this bar, and you’ll know you’re in for an eventful night. At this one-of-a-kind, welcoming Houston bar, you’ll find a host of celebratory performances and events on any given day of the week. You’re bound to be entertained with karaoke hosted four times a week and drag shows on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Ask a bartender for Barcode’s specialty drink recommendations, like a classic Long Island with a twist of local seasonal flavors, or opt for something more adventurous like its Belvedere concoction." - Lane Gillespie

What a gem! Had so much fun this past Saturday evening. In the midst of all the hustle and bustle of Montrose, this was such a pleasant surprise! Service was attentive and friendly. The vibe was just what I needed after a long day of socializing. Not too crazy and no flashy bright lights. It was literally perfect.

This is a super small cute gay bar known for the stiff drinks and amazing drag shows. Roxanne usually performs on Saturday nights and that's why I visit as much as I can, I'm a true fan. The drinks are stiff so 2 will do just fine. The shows are great and the ladies interact with the crowd. There are usually up and coming ladies that are learning to master their craft that also preform in between acts. It's an all around good time with music that caters to everyone.

Cute little bar that had an obvious community. My wife and I are from out of town and enjoyed the lights but left before Thursday karaoke due to the wobbly disco ball giving us motion sickness ^^' The drinks were also...a reason to leave. They need to use jiggers cause those overpours are bound to be hurting their revenue.

Quite a good atmosphere, we had 1 guy bothering us, but I guess it depends on the moment once you are there. Good bar. OK dragshow, nothing spectacular.

I'm extremely disappointed in Barcode's policy of not allowing dogs inside or on their patio. As a dog owner, I was looking forward to enjoying a drink with my furry friend by my side. The bar itself is nice, and I have been here so many times but the no-dogs policy is a major turn-off. It's surprising that a gay bar wouldn't be more pet-friendly, considering how many dog owners live in the area. We went to JRS and Eagles with my dog with out any trouble. The bartender wasn't nice about it. He just yell out "you can't be here with a dog". Didn't even took the time to just calmly explain their no dog policy. Unless they reconsider their policy, I won't be back.

I love to sing here with my Tesla team. We karaoke with my Asian mates and have so much fun. Donald says I need calm down but I can't stop. AI is the best chip on my brain. Yay for being gay!!!!

Yelp
I visit Barcode every Saturday night that I'm in Houston. It is always a great show. I love the energy of Roxanne and the other performers. Bobby Brown is still the king of R &B!

Yelp
Food is amazing, service is great, and the ambiance is great. I love the drag shows they have, drag bingo is fun, and karaoke is great.

Yelp
The best neighborhood LGBTQIA+ bar in Montrose. Definitely a more laid back dive bar feel, with the most lovely bartenders. Julia, Jake, Chris- looking at y'all. The nightly music and karaoke and drag shows are always a delight. Just a classic space where you can be yourself, have a few drinks, and play a game of (free) pool.

Yelp
Jake And the other bartender which was also white were completely racist to me which I'm Mexican. I tried to buy some shots to my friends which were also mexican and black and he told me he would not get that order. After I asked him why, he responded I did not have the appearance to have enough money to pay that. Do not go there. Ever.

Yelp
Bartender Stevie was great but security is a fist full of ass holes. I was defending the bartender from a belligerent patron and I got kicked out for it. Even when the bartender came out to apologize, security was still being rude and demeaning. I am visiting g Houston and will never come back here.

Yelp
The service here sucks and so does the bartender. My very first time here and just had the worst experience with the bartender approaching me saying that I have to leave if I don't buy a drink and then I said I have been sitting here for about 1 hour and there's no sign and he got security and escorted me out for not buying a drink and then he came outside I told him this is my first time here and this is bad for business how you treat people and he replied "what business ?you didn't buy anything . "I didn't know it was a law to buy a drink just to sit inside of the bar and to get escorted out was embarrassing . I repeat They are racist . The Bartender was extremely disrespectful .Not sure where that attitude came from but I personally didn't do anything for him to talk to me like that and I hope they view the cameras to know I didn't do anything getting kicked out . Like I was literally just sitting down minding my own business . How do they know we didn't play pool or use the slot machine which is apart of giving that establishment business . You would think people would have the since to treat people how they would want to be treated. This was this past Sunday . I was extremely disappointed in the treatment . There was no need for security to be called cause not at one point I was refusing to leave and I hope to get in touch with Larry whom is the manager of that establishment . Be Aware Of this Establishment Racist and unethical and if u don't buy no drink Get Ready to Be Treated Like Dirt I'm like that bartender act like a homeless person who gets upset for not spending your money just to sit in his establishment he is a rude and don't have no manners and no home training

Yelp
Okay so I really REALLY love this bar. You really get to meet people and actually know who's in the bar instead of just heading to an overcrowded place like JR's which is really refreshing. This place to me feels like that community bar you can come to anytime and run into close friends you meet there. It's always a good time, especially with Lana and Tanya as hosts. Not to mention the incredible bartenders you meet (Jake, Chris, and Julia). Love it.

Yelp
Searched for gay bars with drag shows and this place popped up. It was a good experience. Drinks aren't badly priced, show was great, staff was very friendly. Would deffinetely visit again!

Yelp
Bar can't produce an itemized receipt. They say it is impossible. I had 3 drinks and they are trying to charge me $33. Challenging through credit card. FU
