The Best Cincinnati Chili in Cincinnati | Bon Appétit

"It’s hard to miss Bard’s Burgers & Chili’s biggest claim to fame: the Bardzilla Challenge. A massive mural on one side of the dining room taunts diners with a tower of 11 one-third-pound patties and two pounds of fries. But owner and chef Jordan Stephenson has put at least as much thought into his chili." - ByDaniel Walton

Google
Certified Burger connoisseur. Bards is solidly in the Top 5 Best burgers in Cincy. Solid. Tasty. Cheesy. Juicy. The burger checks every box. Don’t sleep on the fries. Not a fast food style fry. Home made style. Cheese Curds are legit. Whole menu slaps. If you like burger then this is your spot.

Google
I seen a thread posted on The Next Door App asking where to get the best juiciest burger and kept seeing this place mentioned. Told my husband and we were game for an adventure to try a new burger. Never mind the why BUT how have I never eaten a burger this good in my life and I am almost 50!!! FANTASTIC BURGER!! Our waitress was great she knew her menu and is a definite assist to the place with her enthusiasm! Extremely refreshing! Back to those burgers, omg more please!!! Soooo good! If you want a comfort food burger, big thick juicy and flavorful RUN to Bards!! P.S. do not forget the cheese curds they are the cherry on top! Delish!

Google
As a self-proclaimed burger connoisseur, I can confidently say Bard's Burgers delivers top-notch quality every time. I tried the All-the-Way burger paired with fried cheese curds, and it was an absolutely satisfying meal. The burger was perfectly crafted, and the cheese curds were a delightful complement. This spot is a true Covington staple, and I highly recommend it to anyone in the area. The staff and customer service were excellent, making the experience even better. I was able to get in and out quickly during a work lunch, which is always a plus. If you’re a burger lover, Bard’s Burgers is a must-try!

Google
Me, my girlfriend, and my son all came in and it had been years since either of us had come in to eat! What I can say is there was nothing about the experience that wasnt perfect. Our server made us feel welcome and right at home and she made my son the centerpiece of attention and he was so overjoyed with all the fun and conversation to be had with us and her. I got the Black and Blue and my girl got the donut burger and OH MY!!!! they were even better than I remember and so filling! The cheese curds were even better (but yall have to get caramel sauce for them) and to finish it off with some bread pudding was a great way to end the night. Businesses like this is what we need more of and I am more than happy to come back here again and spend more time with this great restaurant. THANK YOU

Google
A must-visit if you love burgers and you're pulling up in Covington at some point! It's a cozy diner-esque spot and the staff was friendly and accommodating. We started with the "Bard Famous Cheese Curds" (which were on special for the day) and they were incredibly flavorful. For my main course, I had the Bard-B-Q Burger and a side of fries. The burger was cooked to perfection and had lots of flavor, and while the fries were a tad salty for my taste, they were perfectly crispy. They definitely deliver on its promise of delicious, handcrafted burgers. I would recommend stopping here.

Google
We ordered the poutine, Bard Boy, mushroom burger, and plain cheeseburger. The hamburger was fresh, not frozen patties. The poutine was the best I’ve ever had. The burgers were seasoned well. We loved the gravy so much my husband ordered a side of gravy to put on his mushroom burger. The fries were hand cut and seasoned well. There was a bit of a rush just as we arrived, so a lot of people were seated within a short amount of time but the staff did really well about trying to attend to everyone. We did not wait long at all for our food. We will definitely be back.

Google
The classic burger and fries were fantastic! The burger was cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. The fries were nice and crispy. The cheese curds were addictive! I ate too much of my food before I took the photo - sorry lol. Our waitress was friendly and the turnaround for food was great. The atmosphere was relaxed and fun, especially with the claw machine for the kids (and the adults!). I would definitely recommend Bard's for a casual and tasty meal. Do not skip the cheese curds. . . you will regret it.

Google
The burgers and fries are delicious. Cooked to order and portions are big. I got the patty melt and it was the best I have had in quite a while. This place is very busy for such a small space so don't go if you're in a hurry.

Yelp
This place is a throwback. A true neighborhood burger joint, kitchen really hustling, kids learning new jobs, neighbors of all kinds coming together to share a great burger. I had the 3 alarm burger with Jalapeños, So good. They were running a feature on the fried cheese curds so we had those also. Surprisingly good beer selection, full bar, friendly service and amazing burgers. What else could you want?

Yelp
We had seen Bard's on many lists of best burgers in the city, so we absolutely needed to try it. And while it's not my #2 burger, it is absolutely delicious. The space is quite small, so make sure to get there early (especially on a weekend) if you want to be seated quickly. I really liked the cheese curd appetizer. I do think we should have ordered the half size instead, as the burgers and sides were plenty of food. I also liked that you could get a coney as a side (pictured here). Burgers were fresh and really really good. Service was a little slow, but I think that was due to the popularity and business of the restaurant. Will go back again!

Yelp
I've been here several times throughout the years when i worked in the area and when I am in the area now but I never submitted a review. I've had the poutine, chili and the burgers and they all have been good. The service is good and the owner comes and talk to you. They are now offering smoked products. The last time I was there I had the brisket and when I was walking in I was able to smell the smoker they had in the back. This time I had a bowl of the Brunswick soup which was excellent. It's a place that you can't go wrong but it depends on what you want on a burger or even if you want a doughnut bun. The burgers are hand made and nothing fancy. If I lived closer I would go there more often but when I am in the area, it's my go to place to eat.

Yelp
Had a delicious Saturday afternoon lunch at Bard's. We tried the veggie patty deluxe with cheese curds and the black and blue burger with fries. You can tell everything is homemade with quality ingredients. The fries are fresh cut and the blue cheese dressing was perfect. It's a no frills atmosphere that is diner like in style. Service was quick and attentive. This meal makes me think I should make to this hidden gem in Latonia more often.

Yelp
Chili lunch and a quick midweek brew. Cool selection of crafts and coneys worth the trip! Big menu, burger is highlight but plenty of other choices. Tvs and pinball, what more could you ask for!!
google avatar

Alex D.

Yelp
Bards was good! A quaint little burger joint with fast service, a decent craft beer selection, and a fairly priced burger that hit the spot. I also had a coney that satisfied. You kind of feel like you're part of their family when you're there.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow! I stopped in without knowing they were on the food network. I was in the area and they rated well on YP. The pricing is super reasonable even after Covid. I'm not a fan for Cincinnati chili but theirs had really good flavor, just missing beans. The delux burger with fries was well above average. I was concerned with the patty being 1/3 lb but it proportionally worked well with the bun. The fresh cut fries with sea salt were also very good. A couple of bottled rootbeer options and I'm set! This will be a regular stop for me. A must try!

Yelp
Great burgers! Exactly what you'd want when you think burger. They also have some great fun things like deep fried Oreos. I'd suggest trying it all!

Yelp
Been to this place multiple times and always have a great experience! Relaxed atmosphere, delicious burgers and fast service. Burgers and fries are fresh, cold beer options and even desert! Parking available near by. Try this if you are in the area!

Yelp
My sister brought me to this classic place. This is clearly a burger focused restaurant. Started with the fried cheese curds. Yum crunchy outside and chewy gooey inside really good. I had the deluxe, a 1/3 lb burger on a really nice bun. You can have all the extras you want. the burger was really nicely charred nearly like a smash burger. crisp fresh lettuce and tomato. Super good burger. Definitely a winner. My wife had a cheesy chili coney dog. Chicago knows how to make a dog. This isn't a dog. A tiny wiener covered with watery something they called chili, Yuck. Could barely find the dog. Awful. Great service, friendly, and quick.

Yelp
I grew up with this restaurant down the street from me. I have always enjoyed their cheese curds and bacon burgers with a heeping side of their amazing ranch. This place has held a place in my heart for years, and I hope it reaches others just as much! The service is great, always there for questions, knowing the menu like the back of their hands. I would like to ask for suggestions and new menu items. There's always something new to try! The environment is always welcoming and warm, like a hometown restaurant should be. It is a great place to go to after a rough day at school.
google avatar

Eric G.

Yelp
They have a good basic burger, nothing too fancy, but you can add some extra toppings to suit your appetite. The best part is that their burgers are sourced from locally raised beef. I like that they use sea salt as well.

Yelp
Family owned favorite! "The dive worth the drive" ending a 5 day fruits & veggie fast with a delicious burger from Bards! Best meat & cheese around! Family owned so the service is genuine & fast!
google avatar

Sydney H.

Yelp
If you're seeking little grease and some greens this is not the place for you. If you're all in on a dive bar great, juicy burger then you have clicked on the right restaurant my friends. Poutine was very good and tasty. Very accessible, parking on street or in a lot nearby, friendly service (very hospitable), and pretty quick.
google avatar

Yelp
I have been so excited to write this review. Burgers are my favorite and I've had about every burger place you can think of. When I tell you this was the best burger I've ever had, I MEAN IT! Holy sh*t!!!! The flavor was impeccable. And the dang cheese curds and the fries. OOOF! This is THE meal I want if I'm on my death bed. Very cute little restaurant and the service was fast. I can't wait to eat her again.

Yelp
We visited Bard's for the first time on a recommendation from Chowdown Cincinnati and boy am I glad we did! The food was great, the service even better, and the owner visited each table to ask how everything was. Obviously he cares. We shared the half-and-half appetizer of fried pickles and cheese curds. Yummy! I had the Deluxe (my go-to), and my SO had the Big Bard, a 1/3 pound cheeseburger with tartar sauce and a side of what I call 'boardwalk' fries. Topped that off with a local draft. Everything was so good! I told the owner and now I'm telling you....I just don't see how you could make a better burger. I will go again and I will take friends.

Dennis T.

Yelp
Grest food! Nice friendly staff! Best burger I have had in a long time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
google avatar

Kayla T.

Yelp
This place isn't much to look at from the outside, but what a fun little date night spot. We were happy to stumble upon this hidden gem in northern KY. Don't get too fancy to come here. Casual dining for sure. Looks like a dive, but it's clean and bright! Really good food with nice sized portions. The staff is very friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
We were the first customers in the place. The waitress was extraordinarily nice. She asked if we;d ever eaten here. When we said 'no" she was super helpful explaining the menu, making recommendations, etc. I ended up with the Bard Boy and Fried Cheese Curds. The Bard Boy was simple, yet delicious. There was the tiniest snafu with the cheese curds so they brought me few fries to tie me over. The fries were outstanding! They were fried to a perfect golden brown. The fried cheese curds were just okay. Because they were featured on The Food Network, I was expecting something fantastic. They were good... I mean, you can't really mess up fried cheese, but they were not outstanding. My friends loved their burgers and fries. I'm glad we stopped in. It was definitely worth the drive.

Erin W.

Yelp
Great for when you want a big juicy sloppy burger. A hole-in-the-wall but not quite a dive if that makes sense. Really hits the spot with some cheese curds!
google avatar

Yelp
Finally got to eat here today after many glowing recos from Chowdown Cincinnati. I got a burger and chili. I didn't really like the chili--it's kind of a watered down Skyline--no beans or onions and I didn't really care for it. But the burger---WOW--one of the best burgers I have ever had. I got the ordinary one (The Purist) with lettuce, pickle onion and tomato. It was just perfect. If I'd had room, I would have ordered another one. Maybe next time. And I've heard good things about their fries also, so will get those on my next visit. Service was very friendly and attentive. One of Latonia's gems--don't miss it. And for an unbeatable two-fer, visit Moonlight Donuts just down the street (they open at 4PM).

Yelp
Bards Burgs in Latonia is a cute neighborhood burger joint. Everyone was very friendly and the service was great. The owner/chef came over and talked to us. I had the black and blue burger . It was cooked just the way I ordered it , came with fries also good. My friend had the chili three way she said it was fine . It was a step back in time . Go and try it for yourself!!
google avatar

Brian S.

Yelp
Excellent burgers; though a little over done. But still somehow excellent. The fries are the best in NKY. The chili is good; tho, I am still partial to Dixie & Camp Washington. Cheese Curds & fried pickles are both really good.

Randy M.

Yelp
Food was good , took along time for our food to arrive , place was packed , they need more cooks
google avatar

William H.

Yelp
what can we say, it's an awesome burger. We love Granny's up the road, but Bard's is simply an amazing burger. Not the best one in the greater Cincy area, but pretty darn good.
google avatar

Sarah E.

Yelp
Popped in at my friend's suggestion. Tiny little burger joint, looks like there's an expanded room with a bar area. Disappointed there were no vegetarian options or vegetables like salad on the menu, so I settled for some fried foods: pickles, fries, cheese curds. Wanted to try the Shroomtine but was sold out. The fries were delicious and crispy, cheese curds were so good!! My friend enjoyed her burger (it smelled good) and the service was speedy and friendly. Would return
google avatar

Yelp
Great burgers and great service. Friendly and helpful staff. Grew up calling these types of places "greasy spoons." Loved it!
google avatar

Mark M.

Yelp
Must do the burger on the donut. That was delicious. I enjoyed it I came back With my kids and we all ordered and got a jumbo fry. Great burger
google avatar

Eric W.

Yelp
Some of my favorite burgers in the area. I highly recommend them. The fried pickles are the best.
google avatar

Lori S.

Yelp
First time here and now we're customers for life! Their burgers are absolutely delicious! I had the Bard Burger and it was seasoned and cooked to perfection! My husband had the 5 Way and loved it! We also ordered their fries, which are homemade, they were delicious too! They have a full bar with craft beer, wine, and liquor. Their bourbon selection is great and the prices are good. We were full so had no room for dessert, but plan to order it next time. I highly recommend Bard's! It definitely is "the dive that's worth the drive"!
google avatar

Scot L.

Yelp
Horrible! Don't know how or why this place made the Food Network shows but it is awful. Burgers grossly dry and overcooked and the chili is as bland as it can be. Fried pickles came cold and the fries were burned. Ordered the smoked wings and guess it, they came cold AND the skin was like rubber. Won't be back. 3 people, a couple of beers and the food and the bill was $75! NOTE....apparently a lot of people disagree with me as the place was packed at 4 on a Saturday.
google avatar

Leith H.

Yelp
Great lunch today. Brisket and wings Mush Love Burger also great ! Everything hot Great service !
google avatar

Becky C.

Yelp
We ordered the classic burger. It tasted fresh and delicious! The fries were hot and yummy. The sea salt tasted great on the fries. Service was quick and friendly. The pickle chips wereWe are definitely going back! The place and bathroom was clean
google avatar

Jenny E.

Yelp
Love me some curds and a burger! YUMMY! Best burger you can get in Latonia. Bonus for being a small independent restaurant
google avatar

Kelly M.

Yelp
WOW! This really is the "Dive that's worth the drive". We were here probably ten years ago, and it was fine, but now it's amazing. Since then, they've expanded and been on TV, and I think added a bar. So now, I almost don't want to tell anyone about how awesome this joint is. But if you must know, the Bard Boy burger I had was fantastic. I wolfed it down. I substituted fried pickle chips for fries. My dining companion got fries, so I got the best of both worlds. Everything we ate was so good. We're already talking about going back.

Sarah S.

Yelp
Such good food! We loved everything and definitely will be returning! Our son never eats out at other places but he ate here. The customer service was amazing and the environment is comfortable.
google avatar

Jeff Y.

Yelp
Have been to Bard's multiple times and the burgers never disappoint! They are seasoned to perfection and are always juicy.

Tyler C.

Yelp
Everything here slapped. From the appetizers, to the fries, to the burger. Everything. If I had one recommendation, it would be to toast the buns a little, but, really, this place is incredible. Don't go to the fancy restaurants with the fancy burgers. Go to the hole in the wall for one of the best smash burgers around.

Teresa W.

Yelp
The food was fresh flavorful and delicious, Service was awesome waitress made you feel welcomed, It was our first time, We will be back for sure. Oh they were playing reallly good music too.
google avatar

Ken B.

Yelp
This place is very cool! Super friendly staff and a cool clean environment! The food was really good!! I got the all the way burger and it was delicious! It's a must go to if your in the NKY area!!
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
If you know me - you would know my absolute favorite burger can be found at Bard's. And their fries and homemade ketchup are both fantastic too. If you seek a great burger - look no further. Oh, and their menu of burgers is so fantastic you will be coming back for more. The MushLove (my wife absolutely loves this!) , Bard-B-Q, Deluxe, and 3 Alarm Fire are our family favorites.

John H.

Yelp
Excellent burgers and fries! Great service . Worth the drive from Glendale. We enjoyed every bite!

Jake R.

Yelp
Went to this place based on a recommendation and I'm glad I did. The server helped me decide what to order, and she was very helpful. I ended up getting the Bard Boy burger and it was amazingly good. I got a side of chili which wasn't great but that doesn't take away from my score because the burger was so good. The cheese curds were great as well. Would definitely eat here again.
google avatar

Matthew A.

Yelp
The Old Bards of 2016 is still there, the burgers are $8.50, and worth the price normally. Handmade patties, fresh toppings, and great taste, normally. The cheese curds and fried pickles are the best anywhere. They now have a decent selection of beer that they didn't have way back when. They have even added a second side, about the same size as the tables on the OG side. They, like many places, are low on staff. The waits are longer than they should be to get waited on. Service was okay, considering the full place and lack of servers to handle the load. The kitchen was full so food was running on time, something some other places can't or aren't doing. BUT now the negative... My burger was rare, and no ask from the server on how things were, just a grab-and-go on the refill. My wife's burger is medium rare. So that's why there's a 3-star this time around. The fries were great as usual. So everything above said... It wasn't horrible, especially compared to the chains, it was okay. We will go back but like baseball.. Three Strikes and you're out, and with us it is years, if not forever... Strike 1 Ball 1. See ya soon Bard's, make us proud this time around!!!
google avatar

Eileen B.

Yelp
I have been wanting to try this place for so long and finally I did it. This place has burgers chili and sides and people seem to love it. I took my daughter and we split the bard beque which had caramelized onions barbecue sauce and pickles. As a side we got their homemade fried pickles. The staff was very sweet and the social distancing was perfect but the staff didn't wear masks. That's why I didn't give them a five star.
google avatar

Brandon C.

Yelp
Little hole in the wall spot, but I actually like the decor and setup that they have, especially in the expanded bar area where they have some arcade games set up. They have a full bar, decent selection of craft beers, but let's be honest - what everyone is coming for are the burgers. They're definitely delicious and worth coming for. I got the chili cheeseburger, because I haven't have one in probably 20 years. It was pretty good, but I wouldn't get it again, mainly just tried it for nostalgic purposes. My wife's however, was the bomb. She just got the classic, but everything blended together so well. One thing that I found interesting, though. My wife also got a coney without the bun - and the gravy on it tasted different than the chili on my burger. It tasted closer to a gravy. Not necessarily a bad thing, but unique. Don't know that I'd get the chili again, but the burgers for sure. Me thinking about them right now, makes me want to go get one!
google avatar

Chase F.

Yelp
All I wanted was a delicious burger in a low key "no flare" spot. And that is what I got.

Dwight K.

Yelp
First time visit was great! Had the Burger with homemade tartar. Excellent. The fries are fantastic and the gravy over fries and cheese curds incredibly delicious! Warm and Friendly service. Met the owner. Reminded me of my childhood small town experience. Will be back for sure! Thumbs up!

Yelp
Every thing you could want from your local burger joint! (If your goal is to eat healthy with the start of the new year, then let Bards be your calorie splurge or cheat meal.) I just went with a purist with bacon and oooh the crispy bacon and aaahhhh that burger!! A half order of fries (which was plenty) comes with the burgers and I turned mine into poutine. The added cheese curds and gravy could go toe to toe with any poutine I've had north of the US border. My parents and I went all in and also tried the fried pickle chips and fried cheese curds and both were delicious. Great staff and got our to go order together pretty quick. Everything traveled home well and was delicious. I will definitely go back!!
