This vibrant warehouse brewery offers an impressive selection of on-site brews and tasty food truck bites, perfect for a lively hangout.
"This warehouse-like brewery in Bernal Heights is the kid-friendly sports spot. That probably has a lot to do with the activities, like shuffleboard, pinball, and, famously, a rare Killer Queen console, that are packed inside. On game days, families (and dogs) sprawl out on the picnic tables to stare up at big screens. Order a pint of beer, admire the designer dogs, and cheer on the home team." - lani conway, julia chen 1
"This pop-up has locations all around the Bay and makes one of the best smash burgers in the city. If you blindfolded yourself, hopped on a Muni bus, and got off at a random stop, you’d be able to find Shmash’d just by following the scent of grilled onions and beef. Under their small black canopy are two grills, one has a constant rotation of sizzling patties and onions while the other toasts pillowy brioche buns. There are two options: The Usual which comes with american cheese, lettuce, and house sauce and bacon jam, and the Hella Jalapeño that’s The Usual with swiss cheese and (unsurprisingly) sliced jalapeños. photo credit: Patrick Wong photo credit: Patrick Wong Patties are greasy—as they should be—and have a crispy, nearly-burnt skirt, and the bacon jam and house sauce add a bit of smokiness and sweetness. Make sure to also ask for the free caramelized onions. Shmash’d has a rotating schedule and is usually in the city once a week at Noe Cafe and Barebottle on Cortland, but it’s best to check their website as their schedule can change at the last minute." - Patrick Wong
"Barebottle is a Bernal Heights brewery where you’ll have to step over dog toys and stroller wheels to get around the warehouse-like space, which is exactly why families seem to love it. The gigantic taproom fills up most evenings with the cool-parent crowd, so the odds that you run into your third grader’s classmate (and their dog) are high. There are also tons of arcade games scattered around, plus TVs and foosball—let the children run wild while you throw back a beer or three with your friends and grab a meal from whatever food truck is parked at the entrance." - julia chen 1, patrick wong
"This large, state-of-the-art brewery in Bernal Heights turns out juicy and hazy IPAs, tea-infused saisons, and competition-winning beers crafted from recipes written by enterprising home brewers. There’s a rotating calendar of food trucks parked in front, should all those suds leave you hungry." - Dianne de Guzman, Eater Staff
"Barebottle Brewing is kid- and dog-friendly, so stepping around strollers and stray leashes is all part of the experience. It’s what makes this Bernal Heights spot the ideal gathering space for the neighborhood—the warehouse-like space is huge, with ample room for toddlers to run wild while parents throw back pints of “Rainbow Road Shortcut,” or for dates to get overly competitive over at the pinball machine. They also have a stacked food truck calendar, so you won’t have to worry about getting hungry while lounging at your picnic table. " - ricky rodriguez, julia chen 1
