"It’s worth booking in advance for this hidden gem – not only is it compact, but it also acts as the cocktail bar for next door Barents. The seafood platter is a feast for the eyes, but don’t overlook the delicious snacks such as crab broth or dumplings. The fish burger is also worth ordering – and be sure to save room for a rum soaked baba for dessert. Naturally, you should start and end with some cocktails from their thoughtfully curated selection." - Michelin Inspector

"An early 20C art nouveau property on the edge of town plays host to this spacious restaurant with a distinct Nordic style. Modern dishes are made up of numerous elements and combine many flavours and textures in great harmony. Seafood is a strength – with some sourced from the Barents Sea – and the produce is displayed on ice in the middle of the room and explained to diners as they arrive. A 9 course surprise tasting menu centred around a theme or ingredient is also available, and their champagne selection is noteworthy." - Michelin Inspector

This restaurant needs to have their star! Incredible food, incredible service, incredible experience. We had the seafood platter, the trout, and scallops and complimentary oysters. The chefs are personable and go to your table to explain the food. Their sourdough bread and caramelized butter were SO amazing that I went back and special ordered it two days later. They definitely made me feel like a princess. Do not miss out on this experience! One of the members in our party has an intolerance, and the chef personally came over to our table to ensure the safety of our friend. They went above and beyond to cater to us. Also shout out to Katrina for being the best hostess/waitress in Latvia!!

Incredible experience! The food was amazing, the whole tasting menu is well balanced and full of unexpected flavours. The staff made this dinner truly special, they are friendly and experienced. Overall it’s a fine dining experience and 100% worth the price!

Well, where do I begin? Let's start with the welcome, which was lovely. We chose the tasting menu, so we started with champagne and some oysters. Then the tasting menu commenced. Each course was delicious, and was supported by the sommelier explaining his choice to accompany the dish. Each selection worked perfectly. This was an unforgettable experience, completely delicious, made even better by the wonderful staff. I can't recommend Barents enough, you won't be disappointed.

We had an unforgettable gastronomic experience with an impressive variety of flavors and a carefully crafted tasting menu. The transparent kitchen concept allowed us to witness the team’s professional and meticulous work, which added an extra layer of enjoyment.

Unfortunately we had a disappointing experience. I have previously stated all the intolerances of my companion and they did not respond. In the end we had to order à la carte, which is a disappointment for this price range. The food was of a high standard, but we still expected more flexibility. That's why I unfortunately have to make a small deduction. The service, on the other hand, was very satisfactory.

Definitely the most exquisite dining experience in Riga. It would be an understatement to say that Barents actually deserves a Michelin star (or even two). The service is impeccable, the food is top-notch. Definitely recommend the chef’s 12-course testing menu. All the dishes were absolutely unique and inspired by quintessential Latvian flavours and ingredients. Would recommend it to anyone, simply 10/10.

We had a beautiful New Year’s dinner. Food was delicious, but specific, sweets were too much sweet and no choice of cold non alcoholic drinks-only water and kombucha.

If Guide Michelin operated in Latvia, Restorans Barents would certainly be awarded one, if not two, stars! Apart from the impeccable service, both food and drinks were outstanding. We both went for the tasting menu consisting of 11 courses, and started our journey with each one of the recommended aperitif cocktails. The oyster martini was mind blowing! Salty, maritime flavors paired with slight sweetness of the (home-made) vermouth, just perfect. One of the best, and smartest, cocktails I have every tried so far. The dishes served throughout the evening were full of flavor with smart flavor pairings. The idea of the tasting menu is to use all parts of a product, also the ones that may not typically end up on your plate in a fine dining venue. As an example - the dessert contained potato skin and was one of the highlights of the evening. Savory-sweet, crunchy-soft, just delicious and very surprising. We will follow the future journey of this restaurant, and hope that Guide Michelin adds Latvia to their list (now that they added Estonia back in 2022).
