"Exceptional ingredients from committed suppliers, staff well-being and the belief that our actions impact the lives of our peers: such are some of the topics that are regularly discussed by Grégoire Gillard and his team. In their suitably untreated, trendy street corner establishment, near the fish market, they conjure up their vision of sustainable gastronomy. The surprise menu shines the limelight on the excellent produce of Brussels and its region, with an underlying commitment to respecting the seasons, however short. Nature is what inspires chef Gillard’s creativity, although he isn’t averse to the odd exotic twist. For example, he may thinly slice oysters, then coat them in finely chopped crunchy celeriac, grated iced goat’s cheese and a stunning sorbet of wasabi and East Indian cherry, in a whirlwind of flavours and nuances. Rather than showy demonstrations, he wins us over with insightful, intense combinations in which each ingredient has a role to play and is designed to interact with the others to create fascinating dishes from the first to the last bite. The enticing wine and non-alcoholic beverage list is perfectly in tune with the establishment’s philosophy. Each decision is taken after weighing the impact on the community and the individual, without forgetting an overriding quest for taste. We take our hats off!" - Michelin Inspector

Brussels' charms lie beyond its chocolate and waffles - SilverKris

"Situated by the Brussels Canal and led by chef Grégoire Gillard (formerly of a local icon), this one-Michelin-star restaurant combines exposed-brick charm with a firm sustainability ethos; Brussels and regional produce drive tasting menus and an affordable Friday lunch, with standout dishes such as trout with verbena tzatziki, cucumber scales, gooseberry, ice plant and borage, and a celebrated artichoke-and-truffle creation." - Clodagh Kinsella

This is the third time I visited Barge. I must admit I hadn't been for some years, so it was almost like 'a first visit'. We were at a gallery art opening just before and this was walking distance away. This neighbourhood, once 'troubled', is reviving and the anticpated opening of the Kanal Museum will only improve that. The food was excellent. From the appetizer to the mignardises, it was all delicious. There was just not one dish that didn't match the expectations. I'm a wine lover, but lately I'm trying to reduce my alcohol consumption so I'm exploring other options. Choosing for the non alcoholic choice on the menu has been disappointing at many restaurants, but here they went the extra mile to make it a wonderful experience. Each glass was explained with the same passion as they do with wines. The team, chefs and waiters, were super nice. As a Flemish native in Brussels, I always go for Dutch first and switch to French if they don't master the language. They did their very best to serve me in my native language. I shouldn't wait years to come back to this address.

An Amazing experience, delicious food, and very welcoming service! They addressed gluten-free restrictions without any loss of taste/flavour.

Honestly, one of the best meals I have ever had. The langoustine ceviche topped with tomato sorbet that was infused with Tabasco was life changing. I hate tomatoes! I didn't think to take pictures of the entire meal but this place was really impressive. These pics were mid-meal and after the devastation.

We had an incredible experience at this restaurant - one of the best we have visited in Brussels. The dishes were both creative and delicious, but the highlight was the wine pairing. It elevated the meal to another level, and we really enjoyed it. The service was also great, making the entire experience even more memorable.

An absolutely amazing dining experience!! We booked a surprise menu and every dish we tasted was incredible. The flavors and textures were beautiful. It was the best meal of our entire trip and we are so happy we went. Would recommend pairing wine with each course, we really enjoyed that! The staff gave detailed explanations of each dish with a smile, they were so lovely. I would give more stars if google allowed it!!!

Exceptional. Excellent menu, possible to have all of it with fish options. A must in your Brussels list of best restaurants of creative cuisine. The service explained everything in English, which is not often always the case. They adapted the menu also for pregnancy, no gluten and no butter. The service was perfect with timings, most diligent. Will certainly repeat for a special occasion.

We took the Menu Degustation Course. All dishes were tasty and flavorful. The main ingredient of each dish was very fresh and well cooked. The most favorite dish for me and my partner are the same which is the pork. It was very crunchy and soft and juicy at the same time. We love that the remaining sauces were always left on our table in case you want more of them. Another thing that I love was that they offer half portion wine pairing which for me the right amount for the pairing of 8 glasses. The staffs were well trained. The ambient and atmosphere were casual and pretty lively. However, the restaurant is not that large & for us the table arrangement is quite packed.

Yelp
This was an amazing dining experience! I cannot say enough good things about the food, service and ambiance. The staff was professional, friendly, and not overbearing. We opted not to get the wine pairing since we were concerned about drinking too much. From beginning to end, it was a feast for the eyes and taste buds. I highly recommend if you are looking for a night that is memorable for food and the dining experience.
