Google
The matcha was really disappointing, just tasted like oat milk with a green tint. No matcha flavor at all. Update: Not sure if the ice was the problem as it wasn’t even melted in my cup.

Google
The addition of Mission Burger has taken the experience from great to amazing! Fantastic cold brew and fantastic vegan comfort food.

Kady Lumley-Can

Google
I usually get the brown sugar iced latte and it's one of my favorites on their menu! The atmosphere almost always feels welcoming. Bella took my order a couple of times, and she was so kind. Will definitely be making Barley Bean a regular rotation when working from home :)

Google
Nice, spacious and comfortable cafe. I got latte and breakfast bowl. the latte is as good as other hand crafted coffee shop, but the breakfast bowl was amazing good.

Elora Arana

Google
Great coffee. I got the Hickory Smoked Oak Mocha (hot) and it was delicious, but a little pricey at $8, in my opinion. The normal coffees and drinks seemed more reasonably priced. The ambiance was great. I do look forward to coming back by my self to do a little remote work as it’s a a nice all-in-one with coffees, Mission Burger for food and a bar for cocktails/wine/beer.

Google
I have to say, I’m genuinely confused. Austin is known for being eclectic and “weird”—but never rude. We came to town for the weekend and were excited to visit Mission Burger 🍔, which we love. However, if you want a beverage with your meal, your only option is Barley Bean. Unfortunately, both times we’ve eaten here this weekend, the staff at Barley Bean have treated us with visible irritation, like our presence was an inconvenience. The looks we received said, “I hate everything,” and the energy matched. It’s really disappointing to feel so unwelcome, especially while trying to support a local favorite. Honestly, it feels like a mismatch in values—Mission Burger offers great food and good vibes, while Barley Bean doesn’t seem to align with that spirit at all. To be clear the chick with the dark hair and septum piercing was awesome.

Emmanuel Hernandez

Google
If you decide to eat at Mission Burger, BarleyBean handles all the drinks. Unfortunately that means if you want water you have to pay for a bottled water, no free water cups here. I was happy to see that staff brought a doggy bowl with water for a customer who brought their pet along. Really disappointing and detracts from the experience. In addition there is 0 bike parking on site !

Google
Great spot to grab delicious coffee! Very impressed with my latte... and I had a vegan bagel with "cream cheese", avocado, tomato, cucumber, spinach and red onion... trust me when I say it was drool worthy!! Tried the Impossible biscuit today!! Soooo delicious!! This spot is fantastic!! Update!!! The biscuit is not vegan!!! I was just told this almost 2 years later 😳 you can make this sandwich vegan by putting it on a bun instead.

Yelp
Popped in for a self date breakfast since my boyfriend was out with the boys and I didn't feel like cooking for myself. The restaurant is counter service so you are greeted by a barista as you enter and can place tour order promptly. Despite being mainly a coffee shop they offer a nice selection of breakfast and lunch options as well as several beers on tap. I ordered the brown sugar cinnamon myracle latte ($6.50) which was delicious! It was a great balance and perfect temp to drink when it came out. For brunch I ordered the Chicken & Waffles ($15) which came out quick, hot and fresh! I was surprised to see that the buttermilk fried chicken was actually a chicken patty and the spicy maple syrup just tasted like regular maple syrup but the meal was still enjoyable. I would say they should rephrase the menu description a bit to better manage expectations.

Yelp
Barley Bean is a super cute coffee shop with great natural lighting, lots of seating both indoors and outdoors, and plenty of outlets for those working from anywhere. They have a full food menu and offer a variety of drinks, including beer. I ordered the breakfast tacos, but unfortunately, they were pretty bland, even with the salsa. For drinks, I ordered a hot Matcha Latte with Oat Milk, and it felt like a warm hug perfect for a cold day. Since I came on the cusp of breakfast and lunch, I saw a customer wanting a beer, however, the staff was unknowledgeable with the options, which led to some customer frustration. It might be helpful for the staff to familiarize themselves with the beer offerings and have some notes to better assist customers.

Yelp
Okrrr, cute Barley Bean. You have a lot going for ya. And for fans of coffee... and pastries and gelato and pizza ....and wine, beer, snacks, etc. Ya heard right. Barely Bean offers more than just beans - they have beer (hmmm, hence the name?!) and all of the aforementioned. My bestie Katie B and I were on a morning walk with furbabe Ron Bear and dropped in for some morning coffee. So many options, but I went for a alt milk latte. Drink was hot and warmed me up just right.

Yelp
I love Barley Bean! Great coffee & atmosphere with lots of seating. Excited to welcome Mission Burger who introduced a new food menu with delicious, all vegan options. The service here is excellent - fast & friendly.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick lunch and got the chicken salad croissant sandwich and damn it was delicious! I love the croissant bread and the chicken salad was great. It comes with a side and I chose chips and got a bag of lays with my order. Cute outdoor patio space and some indoor seating as well. Service was quick - food came out in less than 5 minutes!

Sara R.

Yelp
This is my favorite coffee place in the area! I always get the same thing -brown sugar cinnamon myracle latte- it is made with plant based milk and is reasonably priced! I also love how they always have seasonal drinks!! I've also had a couple food items- muffins are very good, and a chicken salad sandwich that was not my favorite Overall good coffee, good vibes, and nice people

Yelp
Always a delight. The baristas are so nice and helpful and willing to bring whatever recipe I come up with to life. They have both tables and a couch area and great WiFi. Round that out with pastries, a full lunch menu and wine and beer and there's no need to ever go anywhere else.

Yelp
This is a great coffee shop in a very convenient location. I like how they have dedicated parking spots. I had an iced matcha latte which was very refreshing! This was a nice spot to meet up and catch up. Very relaxing.
google avatar

Erika Z.

Yelp
I ordered an iced matcha latte, and unfortunately it wasn't great. When it came out, I saw that it was that pale green color where you know it will just taste super milky and lack matcha flavor. They do offer either an unsweetened matcha or a sweetened matcha, and I chose the sweetened one. While I doubt my choice would've made a different in terms of overall taste as it really comes down to how the matcha is made, I do appreciate that they have options. A positive to Barley Bean though is that the barista who took my order was super friendly and patient. Additionally the shop has a good amount of seating options, and while they do share a parking lot with the adjacent apartment building(?) they do have spots reserved for customers. While their matcha wasn't very impressive, I would go back and try out their coffee if I'm ever in the area again!

Yelp
Barley bean is the best. Not only do they serve quality coffee, but their food is surprisingly very good. I ordered an omelet and it was high quality and served shortly after ordering. Today I ordered the Vanilla Pistachio Rose Cardamom Latte with sweet foam which is on the fall favorite menu. During the seasons, I always look to see if businesses have holiday drinks, and if they do that is a plus in my book. The drink was nice, warm, and flavorful as I tasted the vanilla and subtle pistachio rose. Cardamom lattes are one of my favorites because they are sweet and typically mix well with different syrups. Barley bean is a good place to get some work done if you WFH but not the best place to do so. The music can be on the louder side, so if you need some small tasks to be done then that would be easier to do here. The employees are really great at recommending drinks and food, they have not done me wrong before. In addition, the shop also has games like chess. I haven't played in years but when I played with my friend is was like I never stopped. It was a fun activity to do as we finished our drinks. There is also an outdoor patio full of seating. Parking is located in the back, typically I do not struggle getting a parking spot but if it gets packed then I could see that being an issue. Overall, great place, sometimes I wish they had a drive thru for quick visits but typically they are always pretty quick!

Jamielee J.

Yelp
Love the options and flavors here! Staff are friendly and helpful. They even have a separate plant based menu. However, the plant based menu does not mean "vegan" The biscuit has buttermilk in it. Not sure what else, that's the only one I asked about. I wish they would make the plant based menu 100% plant based and vegan friendly. Hopefully one day in the future!

Yelp
coffee is delicious, vibes are good, however the owner was making rude comments to his worker when she accidentally got my order wrong when she was told otherwise by another worker. it was making me uncomfortable and customers were watching as he had a talk with her in front of everyone.

Yelp
I met my friend here on Sunday morning. We got there around 9:30 and there were a few people that trickled in and out but overall it wasn't busy. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. We did not order any food but they do have lots of packaged snacks on a table near the register and I bought some pretzels for later. I got the brown sugar latte, which was pretty good. I got it iced and it comes with an alternative milk option. The coffee was pretty good, the cafe was cute with good music, and there's free parking! I would definitely go back.
google avatar

Hannah K.

Yelp
Wake up and smell the coffee! Why are y'all sleeping on this cozy cafe/bar when they have a whole separate vegan menu? The Impossible sausage biscuit here is just the tip of the iceberg, and it's only getting better. Their breakfast tacos get a lot of buzz, but I'm often swayed by the Thai tofu bowl for lunch. That means a sizable slab of marinated tofu, spicy cucumber pickles, roasted sweet potatoes, sliced almonds, brown rice, and a savory, spicy almond dressing that's good enough to drink. Why did it take me so long to finally get out there?! I won't make that mistake again, especially since I still need to try those tacos.
google avatar

Beth K.

Yelp
DELISH SMOOTHIES! I make smoothies everyday, so I am very picky about them! I got their Dirty Blues smoothie; it was AMAZING! It was so good! They definitely used real blueberries- I could taste them. It was delicious. I also got a standard iced latte which was good. Nice ambiance inside. Clean and spacious! Lots of parking in the back. Nice workers who helped me choose a yummy smoothie!!

Yelp
Such a great spot. Needed to do some work on the fly and just looked for a spot near me. The staff was so amazingly nice and welcoming. The drink and food options were perfect. They have a cool print thing also. Basically you can print stuff if need be from there. I can't really explain since I didn't use but it's a service that is being hosted at that location. I will Definitely go back if I'm the area. Only down fall was the small parking lot but i guess It's fine for the size of the shop.
google avatar

Allison K.

Yelp
Not a bad spot for a quick bite and some coffee! The pizza was pretty good and we also had a iced lavender latte. The ambience is calm, relaxing, and nice!

Miley D.

Yelp
Drinks were OK but nothing special. Ordered chicken and waffles and biscuits and gravy. The chicken and waffles consisted of a chicken cutlet and what resembled a Belgian toaster waffle. Looked like it came out of a microwave. The biscuits and gravy were sad. Two biscuits in a flavorless gravy soup. Very disappointed.
google avatar

Kia L.

Yelp
Barely Bean has my heart. I love their pizza and Salads! The food is really quite good for a coffee shop. It's important to note they also sell wine and beer!! The music is usually mellow and hip but the small is really small. I don't drink coffee but I 100% recommended their chai latte--it's spicy and sweet.

Tatianna E.

Yelp
$9.75 Orange Blossom Latte + $1.25 Oat Milk + 8.25% Tax + Tip. The specialty coffees on the menu are listed as $6.50? There was not price transparency... Never in my life have I paid for a $13+ coffee. I would have canceled the order if I noticed sooner. All things considered, it is a nice place with welcoming staff. I just won't return due to those prices.
google avatar

Yelp
Over all score 4.4 out of 5 I've been here a few times, they're coffee is in Matcha. Lattes are really good. Even some of their breakfast items and muffins are really solid Great location Nice vibe inside Definitely worth going

Yelp
We stopped at Barley Bean right before closing in the afternoon. The barista was still extremely helpful, patient, and kind to us, which was very cool. My husband and I both got iced white mochas. He ended up getting a hot and spicy sandwich as well, which he really enjoyed. We loved the shops vibe, it was incredibly cute! The merch was really fun and there was plenty of space to hang out for a bit. We obviously did not since it was closing and we were headed to see friends. Most importantly, our coffee was delicious. We would definitely come by another time when in the area.
google avatar

Kaeleigh S.

Yelp
Sadly, I totally slept on this place for years. Something about it made me think "chain" and I avoided the possibility of corporate coffee. Man, was I so wrong! Don't just a book by it's cover. The spot is LOCAL and super keep-Austin-weird vibes in the best way. The baristas are always helpful and friendly, and the make a pretty great iced oat latte. They also have food but the one time I tried getting breakfast tacos, they took awhile and messed up my order twice - first by not making my tacos gluten free on corn, and then second by adding cheese so they were not dairy free and I couldn't eat them (sadly I discovered it at home). So no great experience with food. It's also very chill inside and has an outdoor area as well; people seem to always be getting work done.

Yelp
There are tons of coffee shops in the city of Austin. I feel like I've been to them all, except this one, until now. Barley Bean is probably my top favorite coffee! I ordered a hazelnut latte with oat milk and It had the perfect amount coffee to milk and I could actually enjoy it without it being so so sweet. I just went in for a quick drink and discovered they have a full menu, great spot to get work done. Will be back for more! Nothing stood out about service but he got the latte out in a timely manner and was pleasant. Thanks Barley Bean!
google avatar

Yelp
My egg and cheese on what was called a croissant was absolutely disgusting. I didn't order coffee. I make espresso at home. Is not return here. It was the worst egg meal or sandwich I've had ever including Dunken Donuts where I'm not sure they're actually real eggs. And this is WORSE. I had to throw it out.

Tom G.

Yelp
Good coffee choices and food selection. Several suggestions need to be considered. Solar film on the windows would make it much cooler for morning dinners. Also, the bathrooms and patio need a lot of attention toward cleaning
google avatar

Yelp
PEACE LOVE BARLEY BEAN the nirvana bliss cold brew actively aligns my chakras and if I could get the lavender oat matcha latte injected into my veins I would. Foodwise the avocado toast with a fried egg is a certified slapper!!! OMW to becoming a regular
google avatar

Katie B.

Yelp
First off, their "famous" pepperoni pizza is at least famous in my household. I ordered one one Friday afternoon and it kicked off the weekend on just the right tasty note! The crust had that wood-oven crisp while maintaining a pinch of doughiness. Grease from the cheese and added that nice savory, salty flavor and the pepperoni was charred nicely and big! I've been back now a couple times for a beverage and some avocado toast and had lovely experiences with the staff each time. Love that they have free wifi, parking, and outdoor/indoor seating.
google avatar

Ashleigh J.

Yelp
Grabbed a quick breakfast sandwich and coffee from here one Saturday and I was very impressed! Service was quick, parking was easy in the parking lot, and there was tons of space inside. It's a great place to bring a laptop and work inside or outside on a nice day! Coffee was good and had great flavor! I will definitely come back soon!

Star V.

Yelp
Loved their brunch menu! Super friendly staff their pancakes were absurd in a good way.
google avatar

Brandon K.

Yelp
When you walk in, you are greeted by this wonderful atmosphere, a combination of calm energized. The bright room with plenty of seating makes it a great work or read spot. They have a plethora of drink options for any part of the day. I ordered the brisket sandwich, and it was well worth the $5. Out comes with a large heated up fresh biscuit and eggs plus a meat of your choice. My only suggestion for the sandwich was that it needs some type of sauce whether that's butter, jelly, or salsa, I'm not sure, but it was a tad dry. My only reconnection for the place is that some of the employees were a bit lost at the requests customers were making. It seemed like, after each customer ordered, the cashier would have to go back and ask how to do something which caused the line to move pretty slowly.
google avatar

Bobby C.

Yelp
Awesome service, very friendly people Great coffee and food!! I will definitely go there whenever I can
google avatar

Robin W.

Yelp
Stopped in for a coffee and breakfast taco. I had the lavender latte. The latte tasted good very strong lavender taste which I enjoyed. I also enjoyed the latte being served in a regular mug instead of a to go cup. I had missed the feeling of enjoying my coffee and relaxing in a coffee shop. The taco was large, glad I only ordered one . I actually needed to use my fork to eat it. It had a lot of pepper in it which was fine for me but could be a bit much for some people. Overall I enjoyed this coffee shop and look forward to trying the other breakfast items and different coffees.
google avatar

Corey A.

Yelp
This a great place! I love the ambience and style of the building. I got the Chicken Tandoori with a side of chips! The sauce was very tasty but I just wish that the chicken was flavored and seasoned a little more. I wish that there was more parking available since I had to park by Easy Tiger!
google avatar

Frank A.

Yelp
Went there to buy some babka for my daughter who just had a baby. The size of the babka fit into the palm of my hand, so I got 2. At the counter, I ordered an American coffee. During checking out, I was kind of surprised that th smallish babkas wet nearly $6 each. I will admit that they were delicious, but i question the value vs the size. Coffee was very good.
google avatar

Kaylee D.

Yelp
The food was pretty good! We got an iced latte and a dirty chai latte, and they were just alright.
google avatar

Magen D.

Yelp
Barley bean was very tasty and cute, but the prices were high for what you're paying for. It's a fun spot to study, they have a lot of seating-- lounging, outdoor, and indoor. It was *pretty* clean, but not the cleanest. The tables could've been cleaned off better and I deff saw some crickets in the bathroom... however, the coffee was packed with caffeine and the sand which was delicious. I just don't think I would pay that much for a snack again
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
The atmosphere here is really nice but they gave me a stale bagel and moldy cream cheese :( way to top off my rough morning.
google avatar

Kristin S.

Yelp
I came here for their grand opening and the service was great! I tried the avocado toast, which was delicious and a hazelnut latte. Great place to grab a bite to eat, whether it's breakfast, lunch, or dinner. You can even pick up some wine, along with other food or drink items you may need!
google avatar

Yelp
I know I appear to be enamored with all things Texas, but I believe it's entirely justified. Here's another coffee house that my son and I frequent when I'm visiting him in Austin. Unlike some others, The Barley Bean is mostly an indoor coffee shop. If you've ever been to Texas, Austin in particular, you'll understand that sometimes you have to get out of the heat and humidity. At the Barley Bean, you get some of the best coffee and cappuccino around. And their breakfast and lunch food are also excellent. While the coffee here may not be quite as good as some other places I've been to around Austin, it's still superior to what I get in Las Vegas, where I live. And here in Texas, most coffee houses are all large, comfortable, and open seating, like the Barley Bean. If you're interested, there is still an outside seating area, but I much prefer the inside atmosphere.
google avatar

Tyga M.

Yelp
Any place playing 90s classics such as a Tribe Called Quest and Pharcyde in the background is gonna get props from me. I came in during the weekday for breakfast. I loved the varied atmosphere - you can work at the many tables and outlets offered, catch the game on TV, or hang out with a beer and friends on the couch. I got the breakfast croissant, which was HUGE, but pretty good. Their iced matcha latte had a hint of sweetness that was not at all overpowering the matcha. The food menu is pretty big for a coffee / beer joint, as they offer breakfast, sandwiches, pizza, and smoothies. They also sell bottles of wine if coffee or beer isn't your thing. I wish they had a coffee place this versatile back home!
google avatar

Xiao Z.

Yelp
The location is pretty near to the Barton Creek Trailhead, and they have huge selection on drinks and brunch items. I wanted to try the Cascara but they no longer carry that item. I only had cold brew which was pretty good and will come back to try their food as well!
google avatar

kelsey w.

Yelp
Tofu bowl was fantastic! Sadly a lot more rice than tofu but still I would pay $12 for that delicious piece of tofu any day! Staff are super friendly and it's got a great laid back coffee shop vibe! We will be back :)
google avatar

Faith O.

Yelp
Great place to work. Only thing is parking is a little tough. I got a berry bliss smoothie and it was SO fresh. I liked the outside seating as well. My co-workers got a wrap and panini and also had great reviews to share.
google avatar

Kevin P.

Yelp
First time dropping in to try out their Cortado when I saw it on the menu online, and I was very pleased! Proper temperature and espresso to milk ratio... the owner knows his coffee! Will look forward to coming back and trying out more of their menu!
google avatar

Jamie P.

Yelp
Great coffee and breakfast/lunch. Recommend the sproats and honey latte! Great sandwiches too.

Sarah M.

Yelp
Cute Austin coffee shop! The iced lavender vanilla oat latte was one of the best lattes I have ever had. The perfect balance of fruity and rich! We will totally be back.
google avatar

Lauren F.

Yelp
Barley bean was chosen for our lunch in Austin because of the menu variety and great combos in their sandwiches. Unfortunately, out of a group of 6, I was the only one to like my Greek Chicken wrap. The main complaint was that the chunks of turkey were really thick pieces and looked fake. If you come here I would suggest a salad or wrap before anything turkey.
google avatar

Gabi B.

Yelp
Had a panini and iced latte and I am STUNNED! So fresh and delicious, and it's nice inside too!
