"This Beverly staple is known for its Guinness pours (occasionally with portraits of customers’ faces in the foam), though it also serves local brews and cocktails, including a top-notch Bloody Mary. Warm up near the fireplace and listen to live music or watch either form of football on the many TVs mounted on the long bar and brick walls." - Sam Nelson

This place still has the best Guiness pour in the South Side! Beautiful indoor space with darts, a stage, and lots of seating. Cute beer garden with bags, picnic tables, and a fire pit. No food, this just a bar. Long live Keegans! ;)

Google
Great neighborhood bar, it is cash only but there’s an ATM handy. No food, but nbd I’m more concerned for the sound system! Would love to be able to watch games there with sound ON and UP. Sometimes the bartender will switch it with a smile other times they’ll do it for a couple of minutes and then change it back to the music 👎🏼 other than that love this place

Recently visited this place for St. Patrick's Day. Incredibly well run. Well staffed by people that are friendly, yet still move with a sense of urgency. Though the crowd was large, as expected, I never saw people waiting in-line to get their drinks. This place had it covered. It's a shame they don't have better snack options. I respect them choosing not to have a kitchen, but would think they could sell simple snacks as effortlessly as the drinks they serve. Regardless, a very traditional Irish Pub that is worth a visit.

Barney Callaghan's is a wonderful pup owned by a true Irish man. This is a place where to have a great beer and a good conversation.

Kevin

Google
Pure Irish pub at its finest. Ice cold Guinness.

Google
Nice lil "Pub atmosphere" It got louder as it got later on a Monday evening after 5 pm. Food was good, service was great, the waiter came by to check if we needed anything a few times, but not overly checking. I'll go back, maybe earlier next time!

Nice bar on the south side of Chicago. Very, very crowded, but we didn't have any issues ordering drinks. Parking can be a bit of a challenge. They do not offer anything to eat, but didn't have any issues when we brought. They offer live music, so charge a fee to get in after a certain time. Overall a great place to stop by for a drink.

Google
I was there with about 12 other people. The bartender was not nice. We all tipped her well. She never said a word and never smiled. I didn't expect her to buy us a drink. But we did spend over a hundred dollars there. Just a smile would have been nice.

Yelp
This is my favorite Irish pub on Western Ave....and in Chicago in general. This is a place where everyone and anyone feels welcome when they walk through the doors. Most of the bartenders are from Ireland and have their brogue to prove it. The drinks are reasonably priced. However, do keep in mind that it is a cash only bar. They have an ATM on site to help you out in case you didn't realize that or if you go in for "just one drink" and end up staying until 3am and need a little more cash to keep the liquor flowing :) I prefer Keegan's Pub to the other Irish bars/pubs on Western, because they haven't succumb to changing their atmosphere into a modern day look. Part of the beauty in Keegan's is that it is well-loved, and you can tell by the fact that the bar looks worn, as do the bar stools, the floor, and even the doors. This is one of the most authentic feeling pubs around still. It's as if they adopted the attitude of "Like us or hate us, this is who we are, and we ain't changing!" I say this in reference to Cork and Kerry next door who chose to do the opposite...but I'll leave that for another review :) If you are on the Southside and looking for a down-to-earth, laid back, Irish pub...well then, my golly, get yourself over to Keegan's Pub on Western! You may even be greeted by the bartender/owner's dog that they have in the bar every so often :) SLAINTE!

Yelp
Absolutely love everything about this bar!! The atmosphere is so inviting; service is excellent and I Highly recommend the Guinness.

Hugo M.

Yelp
My mainstay for over twenty years! Best Guinness pour in the city. The entire staff is warm and solicitous.

Declan C.

Yelp
Best pint of stout on the south side. Very comfortable and social. Staff are good. Only problem I've ever had is male bartender rolling his eyes when I asked him to switch 1 of 8 tv's on to Cubs. That's a cross to bear for south side cubs fans carry tho.

Carol K.

Yelp
I must have had a sign taped to my back that said, "new here", as certainly everyone at Keegan's on the night I was here asked me, if I was "new here". Ha! That alone made me laugh! And for all who asked . . . . the answer was yes! But then I sidled up to the well worn bar, ordered a beer that the bartender wouldn't give to me (I guess Miller Lite was the wrong thing to order) and then spent the rest of the night laughing with a Guinness in my hand at the antics of the people around me. If you want fancy, this is not your place. If you want plenty of personal space, this is not your place. If you want an Irish bar that is all new and pretty, this is not your place. But if you want a night out with a fun crowd that is bound and determined to make you feel right at home, check out Keegan's. Oh, and don't order a Miller Lite!

Theresa C.

Yelp
This is my favorite place to drink in the city. It's usually the cherry popper for my friends who are South Side drinking virgins. If you want a true pub experience, Keegan's the place to be. It's certainly better than the place next door. Always guaranteed to be the best Guinness pour in the city of Chicago. Whenever I'm on the South Side, I make it a priority to stop in (usually before visiting the family). I considered this my home away from home. Almost makes me want to move back to the city until I have to pay yet another asinine {insert product here} tax.

Bill R.

Yelp
One of the coolest s. Side Irish pubs I've ever seen. Well done. The overall look, is very authentic.

Daniel Q.

Yelp
This is probably my favorite of the Western Avenue pubs. Since most of the people that go drinking on Western are underage...Keegan's has a slightly older crowd...now that I'm 30 I need a little of that. Don't get me wrong cork and kerry, especially with the new addition is a great classic Irish pub...The difference is the guiness...Keegans has the best guiness pour in the entire city of Chicago and some people say west of Ireland. I hadn't been in in 5 or 6 years and the second I walked threough the door 3 people shouted my name....gotta love it!To compare it to dingers is apples and oarnges.....being the white sox fan that I am and all the time I spent in dingers when I was 16 leaves a softspot in my heart.....You can't beat the guiness at Keegans though. Cheers!

Yelp
I really enjoyed this place on a night out with my boyfriend. This random drunk stranger came up to us swearing and the bartender Mat handled it very well and professionally. It's my boyfriends birthday and the night was going down hill but after the way everything was handled we were nothing but smiles and will definitely return to this awesome place!!!

M N.

Yelp
I would give it zero if I could. Bar itself is awesome, bartenders maybe the worst in the world. Keep your phones in the back and pay attention. Just saying.

Michael L.

Yelp
The craic is good here. Favorite pub on the southside. Don't come for frills none here but craic and pints are a plenty.

Jeanne D.

Yelp
Horrible service! Bartender doesn't seem to know what put in the well means. It means I need another drink

Colleen B.

Yelp
I came here for a friends birthday party and drinks. It was a lot of fun and I really loved this place. It was a Sunday night so I was expecting the bar to be empty. But it wasn't. It was very full of younger adults. Usually a prefer bars that are almost empty because you get better service. But here, the service was super fast and the bartenders knew how to handle the crowd. The bathrooms were a little small, but I enjoyed my night here and would love to go back again. I didn't order food or even ask if they had food, so I can only comment on the drinks.

Yelp
Perfect pours of Guinness for 3.75? Check. Broken in bar stool with back support? Check. Two doors? Check. Random Irish songs that the whole bar sings? Check. Footrests at the bar? Negative Adult urinals? Obvious check. Child sized urinal? Check. Hole in the wall that has been fixed with duct tape? Check. Mid-60 year old patron that looks like he stepped outta a Dick Tracy comic? Check. Book reader at the bar? Check. Getting eye balled all night by a mother who kept pushing drinks on me? Check. Being able to talk to your table mates at 1:39am and hear the quarters hit the floor? Check. Being able to give some bills to someone who's making a taco run and actually get food back? Check check. The homeless man begging for a Guinness? Check. The homeless man's posse swinging in around closing time and effectively driving away the north end of the bar? Check. ATM? Nope I think I've found my bar for SSI.

Stephanie T.

Yelp
My favorite Western St. pub. An eclectic collection of expats, locals, young, old, artists, truck drivers.... You get the point. I love this place.

Carissa B.

Yelp
Wow. I created a yelp account just to leave this review. Came in here like any other night and we were super pumped to watch March Madness. We got in there around 8:00pm and I had a Bloody Mary. I wasn't really drinking much, but my boyfriend had a few drinks. 1:00am rolled around and I noticed that my drivers license was missing. I immediately asked the bartender and I was told that nobody had turned in a license. I panicked and said that I needed to report that my license had been stolen and the bartender, Bridget, proceeded to threaten me and tell me that if I got police involved she would lie and say that I was over served. I had my receipt in front of me which stated that I only had 3 drinks in a 5 hour span, and was told that she had comped all of our drinks. Yeah right, Bridget wasn't even our bartender. I never even saw this lady in my life. I eventually waited until the next day and went back in to speak to the owner and was told that I clearly misplaced it since I had 2 beers and a Bloody Mary. I didn't know it was a crime to sit in a bar and watch a basketball game. If you want your shit stolen and nothing to be done about it, check out Barney's.

Yelp
Fun bar and great atmosphere! The bartenders are awesome. This is a perfect south side Irish bar!

Yelp
I got a special deal on a futon from the owner of Keegans in the summer of 2004. He was flexible regarding delivery because there was an issue with my apartment complex and since its really just a bar, not a store, and this was a private sale, I didn't give him too much hassle about it. He is very kind and helpful and most of the staff at Keegans have that "Scottish Charm" if you will. The delivery movers were buddies of one of the waitresses ex boyfriend - polite, quick, and took the time to explain how to set it up/take it down, I was like WOW! I didn't even pay for movers thank you!! The futon is really a quality piece of furniture and it looks so nice. I definitely recommend this place not only for the top shelf enchiladas and tequilla, but also for the Scottish with a smile, CAN DO attitude!

Yelp
Before the redesign I used to come to this bar ALL THE TIME. Yesterday is the first time I've been back since the redesign. They hired new bartenders who flat out were not serving women. My boyfriend and I actually tested them. She served him within minutes after I waited 20 and gave up and walked away. My friends and their husbands continued to test it. Over and over - they served men and not women. I get that they want tips but I tip REALLY well. Hell, I give my mailman a Christmas present! It was pathetic. Not going back - definitely miss the old Keegan's.

Yelp
Favorite Western bar by FAR! Chill place to hang with your friends and not have to worry about all the Western under-ageres ruining the atmosphere.

Melanie O.

Yelp
The best pub for all things IRISH! Yes, Keegan's is there is spirit, but Barney Callaghan's is by far the finest pub in Chicago!

Carl G.

Yelp
Excellent Irish pub, best of the Western bars.

Meghan L.

Yelp
everything i want in a bar: -fast and friendly service -great (and inexpensive) guinness pours with that wonderfully thick meringue-like foam -beautiful old wood and a roaring fireplace

neil b.

Yelp
Come on people, we need to get this place up to 5 solid stars. As stated before, these guys have the best Guinness in Chicago. Sit back, order some Milanos, and enjoy!

Mark H.

Yelp
This is the most tolerable of Western Ave bars, which is to say its like least painful way to get in the face with a hammer. Yes, this place is going to be full of all the dipshits you went to high school with, but there just won't be as many dipshits as next door at Cork and Kerry.

Kirby S.

Yelp
Beautiful bar space, expansive whiskey selection, attentive space. Only problem is it's really noisy in there!

Lauren O.

Yelp
I love Keegan's! It's a great neighborhood place to go. Very laid back but always a good time.

Michael H.

Yelp
I really like this place. The best bar in Beverly if you ask me. it can get a little tight n there but usually it thins out a bit and you can claim some more room. Good bands play and they always have good stuff on tap. This is why people drink on Western!

Joe T.

Yelp
Great spot. Stopped in to kill some time on a late sun pm. Met by super friendly bartender, lots of laughs echoing throughout the bar, and maybe the best Guinness pour this side of Ireland. A+.

Michael M.

Yelp
Been here a few times (6 or 7). It seems like the place to go if you want to sit down and have a drink and just talk with your friends. People are usually friendly. Bartenders are quick and polite. Drink are very inexpensive. There is a VERY wide age range from 21 to 60 (or so I'm guessing) I like it a lot( whiskey sou is my favorite. And the $3 Killians pints)

Margaret P.

Yelp
I was there for a friends birthday gathering in June and its nice place---a little pricey for my budget but it was worth it for my friend

Leah S.

Yelp
What more can I say here that hasn't already been said....but to be spoken by a Beverly native and a good irish girl....Keegan's is the best bar on the south side and I wouldn't go any where else!!

allison f.

Yelp
My favorite bar on Western and quite possibly my favorite bar on the Southside. I love the Southside Irish feel, and the "Cheers"-like ambiance the bar regulars/ Western drifters create on any given night. If you go on a weeknight, I don't have to emphasize it's going to be more quiet, but it's still busy with people juke-boxing or dancing to live Irish music (so that should tell you a lot about how the weekends will be!). I haven't been here in a year or two, but writing this review I am getting extremely nostalgic. Keegans will likely inspire the same for you-- neighborhood local or not-- just due to the fact that neighboring Cork & Kerry shows you how Keegans got it right.

Nikki B.

Yelp
I have lived on the south side for a long time and have been up and down western for years. This bar is by far the most disappointing. The bouncer and owner are very rude; they yell, put people down and even made a girl cry. Myself and many of my friends will never step foot in this bar again. We would rather go somewhere where we are greeted in a positive way and genuinely know that we are wanted there.

Scott H.

Yelp
Best Guinness on the south side hands down. Remodel done fantastically. Service is great, even though the bartender turned down an offer to go to the NLCS game because she was a "sox fan"......lol. Still she wasn't a bad bartender........

Nic G.

Yelp
Keegan's Pub has the best frothiest-poured Guinness in Chicago! The place is cozy and the bar tenders are always friendly.

LeFran J.

Yelp
Best Guinness in Chicago. Great attentive service from a bartender named Devlin. They don't have regular specials, but they'll buy you one every couple, best bar on western, no lames, no racist vibe that can be associated with the Southside. Locals in there are 1000% solid. Nice wood work, fireplace and decor. Live music on Tuesdays from a really talented male/female duo. Plus, Ed Walsh has been spotted in there. Highly recommended if you are in the area.

Erika D.

Yelp
Great local place to stop in for a beer. All of the bartenders are super friendly. Come here with Friends all the time and all of them love it... nothing special inside, but just a homy feeling!

Nancy D.

Yelp
One of the best bars, if not the best, on Western. Guinness is always fresh as they pour alot of it. Bartenders are very attentive and will actually look you in the eye and say thank you. Crowd is older during the week, weekends skew younger but everyone feels welcome in this great Irish pub.

Mollie F.

Yelp
Not even worth the 1 star. Went there this past weekend, was greeted by a bartender who was drunk out of her mind..I mean couldn't even talk straight. I was with a group of 10 or so, everyone went to show their ids and were able to order drinks. I showed mine to the out of her mind drunk bartender and she proceeded to call me a b**** other profanities for supposedly showing her a fake id. I'm 23 years old! Never would i expect to be greeted like that. She was lucky i didn't call the police on her for harassment. I will never go to this bar again nor will anyone else I know. Worst place ever!

Danielle S.

Yelp
This was one of the better bars we attended in the evening. The staff was friendly, the drinks were cheap, it was nice and big (lots of seating too), and had a younger, more fun feel to it. It didn't have a dance floor or anything like that, but I could see where things could get crazy! I would come back here on a weekend to hang out again.

Brian R.

Yelp
Keegan's is one of my all time favorite bars. It is a staple on Western Ave and the best, in my opinion. The drinks are cheap, the bartenders are friendly, and the jukebox is top notch. Also, they have by far the best Guinness this side of Ireland. I cannot say enough good things about this bar.

Brian K.

Yelp
For a bar that is so close to my house I should go here more often. The crowd is very regular, as are most bars around Beverly. The beer is good and the Guinness is done right. The bartenders are good and will buy you a drink every now and then. It's an oddly laid out place with two front doors, but they do have a fire place which is nice in the winter. Lastly, there is rumor of a beer garden but I've never seen it open and the only thing I've seen out back was the bartenders dogs. Over all a great place.

Cheryl L.

Yelp
My favorite place! If you are looking for a quiet bar, during the day, with friendly faces you will quickly get to know if you stop if about three times during the same time of day...you will get it here. If you are looking for live music during the week...check the schedule and you'll find it here. If you are looking to stay away from the "WOOOOHOOOO girls" you find at Cork and Kerry and Dingers...you'll find a down to earth crowd here. If you are looking to be in a bar that has a great mix of people in it, but isn't so crowed you can't move or talk...come here on a weekend night. I hear they have the best pour of Guinness around (I don't drink it, but all the patrons with the Irish accents come here to drink it). This place is the cleanest bar I have seen. We go in early after work, and the bartender is constantly running everything through the dishwasher, dusting the pictures on the walls (I dare you to find a speck of dust!), and the bathrooms always smell like bleach (well the girls does! ;) ) I hope you stop in...you may see me!
