Barolo East

You get what you pay. A perfect example of a fancy italian restaurant. Food can be a little bit expensive but it’s worth the experience. Waiters here are well-trained and have what it takes to work at such a high-end restaurant. Food was delicious.

Atmosphere on the back patio was great. We ordered the fillet of Sol which turned out to be too salty. But the rest of the dishes were great!

Review is a bit late but we finally settled from traveling. We visited on 1/1/2024 for dinner and the whole experience was wonderful. The host was welcoming, and our waiter Paolo walked us through the menu, offered insight to the dishes and was very kind and attentive. The atmosphere was romantic, white table cloth, candle light, very elegant. Our food- oh my gosh our food- amazing. From the bread and dipping sauce, appetizers, salads, to the main course and dessert. Everything was so, so good. I really can’t express it enough, the pasta was amazing and I come from an Italian family, I mean it, it was so good. And their Parmesan!!! So good. Maybe I over did it on my dish but it was yummy. We didn’t have to travel to “little Italy” for classic Italian, this place is it. Bolognese might be a simple dish, but theirs was more than just delicious. I never finish a dish before my boyfriend but this time I did, it was delicious, and if I lived in NY I’d be there again right now. Thank you so much to the staff for making our first dinner as an engaged couple memorable, and thank you to the kitchen for such a delicious meal.

I had the pounded out pork chop, breaded fried, finished with lemon. Crispy tender wonderful flavor. We also had Shrimp Parmigiana along with salad. Great night out with friends. Anderson our waiter had the whole menu in his head. Anderson was very helpful enabling each of us to make our dinner decisions.

Went there for a late lunch. Absolutely superb Italian restaurant - proper food for grown-ups. Reasonable priced for classy dishes, great service and lovely garden to the rear. Can't recommend it highly enough.

I’m in town for work meetings. We went here for dinner and it was very nice. It’s an upscale Italian New York City restaurant with excellent service and very good food. The restaurant was not too noisy. I had the ravioli which was very tasty. Some others at my table had the branzino special which they also said it was very good. Great choice for a good NYC Italian restaurant.

I came here recently after seeing many good reviews on this place, and they did not disappoint. As soon as I entered the restaurant you are greeted by a big painting that really sets the vibe. I visited Barolo with a couple buddies and we were all equally as satisfied with the place, we will definitely be coming back. From the food all the way to the service was nothing but excellent. I really recommend this place to anyone looking for good Italian food in Manhattan

We went on a busy Friday night and were able to get a table with minimal notice. The server was okay, had to ask another staff member to refill water and again where our cocktails were. Overall the food was great. The veal was fantastic, as was the burrata. The gnocchi had a perfect texture, just personally felt like the sauce needed a little more dimension. I think a veggie, pancetta, or something could complement the sharpness. The warm brownie at the end was the perfect capstone for a delicious meal.

What a find! With being in New York only a few days and so many options it's difficult to find the hidden gems. I am not one to gate-keep so Barolo East is my pick. Service was friendly, I was able to make reservations on the app, showed up and we were immediately greeted by multiple people. It had that family vibe I love. We started with a round of appetizers, entrees and desserts. The buratta appetizer was fresh and delish, perfect for three people to share. We also had the grilled octopus which presented well and even though I'm not a huge sea creatures fan, it was delicious. Now the veal was by far the best of the dishes. I loved my penne zucchini e pecorino but I was pleasantly surprised after having a bite of the veal I certainly wanted more. Then to top off with desserts and lemoncello, it was perfect. We stayed much longer than we intended just because how friendly and delicious everything was. Plus being sat in the garden area was relaxing. The bar was packed, from what I can tell the bar were regulars that seemed to know each other which was special in itself. However I personally enjoyed being on the back garden deck. It was a nice, quiet area to relax and enjoy with friends. Overall, this is my new favorite spot in the area. There's a parking garage right next door for quick access. I would say easily a great place for family, friends, and coworkers. My tip is book a reservation in advance if you can. I went during the week but I assume weekends can book up. Otherwise the bar is a great option. Their wine list is extensive but they can make pretty much any drink you ask. Great experience! We will be back!

Barolo East is an upscale restaurant. The place is quiet & elegant. The head waiter & waiters are friendly & accommodating. The Sirloin Steak was tender, juicy & absolutely delicious. The grilled vegetables & cut potatoes were grilled just right. The slices of steak were medium cut, generous & satisfying. I couldn't eat all of my meal so I took it home so I could have a delicious lunch the next day. I especially enjoyed the red pepper & olive oil dipping sauce for the bread; it was different & delicious. The restaurant is pricey but totally worth it for the excellent quality of the food.

Fantastic option, fabulous service and wonderful food. We ordered veal and sea bass, along with some wine and everything was very good. Highly recommend!

Nice decor and very good service. But if you plan on having a pleasant conversation at the table, it's almost impossible on a weekday night. So noisy. The food was average at best as well.

I cannot believe I didn't take photos of my food here, it was the perfect pasta. I had the "Pappardelle con Pollo e Verdure" and my friend had the "Bistecca". I walked out of there feeling like I was back in Italy. It wasn't too filling or too little, it was just right. From the second we walked in the Host was very nice to us. He walked us in and led us into the upstairs where there is an outdoor patio (it was closed, but still beautiful). We ordered our food and had great conversations with a couple of waiters and the Host. We really appreciated a place where we can have authentic food as well as authentic conversations. It truly felt like a nice family dinner. Cozy and dark. Clean, well decorated, intentionally authentic. This space is beautiful for dates or a night out with friends or family. I 100% recommend coming here if you're looking for a taste of Italy. Beautiful setup, beautiful wine collection. 5/5 for everything!

I walked by this restaurant every day for four years as it was near where I worked. It looked like an old school and classy Italian restaurant and it was. The manager was super attentive and our waiter checked on us several times. The food was delicious and both my friend and I cleaned our plates! The restaurant was busy and everyone seemed jolly. The only downside for me was that it took a long time to get our check after we asked the waiter for it and it was the manager who eventually brought it over. Other than that, this restaurant was a class act. It has excellent ambiance and food. See my photos.

We were in an Italian mood, wanted to stay local to our hotel (Benjamin Royal Sonesta), and hit the bullseye with this place. We are bar-sitters, but the table areas looked classy also. But, we chose the first seats at the bar, and had a fantastic experience. The bread, the salad, the Gorgonzola pasta, and the Bolognese pasta were all fantastic. Senka was our bartender, and Benny was the manager I kept bothering about how great a place he had. NYC has plenty of options, and I am no expert on all of Midtown. What I CAN say very confidently is that if you are walking, riding in a rideshare, staying ANYWHERE close to this place, and it is dinnertime and you are hungry, you need to stop by. No letdown will occur. Lots of pics below. Definitely recommend and see you there (next time wife and I are in NYC).

A really lovely experience here! Came on a cold winter night for dinner and we were seated in the heated patio. The interior has a cozy, yet sophisticated feel which is perfect for an intimate date or for a group gathering. We started with the pear salad and calamari. For the mains, we got the rigatoni and the pasta special of the day. Everything was really delicious!! Service was attentive and great. Overall, a wonderful experience.

I was craving some comfort food and I'm so glad I found this place on Yelp. The pasta reminded me of dishes I ate in Rome and Florence. The flavor of the ragu was incredible, very rich and heavy on the basil. The roasted beet and arugula salad (dinner special) was a nice hit of freshness to the meal. I wish I'd saved room for dessert! The restaurant is quaint with great ambience. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Overall, a fabulous dining experience!

I'm conflicted about this place, really! 3.5 stars (when will Yelp allow us to do 0.5 increments) Service was great and their wine list is amazing! The decor and vibe are on point as well. I do wish the food is better because I work nearby and I was hoping to make this a regular thing. Anyhoo! We went with their eggplant rollatinis and burrata! Burrata was burrata, nothing to rave about. The rollatinis were pretty great. I did wish their sauce that accompanies it was more flavorful. (I go to Italian places to try their sauces and get disappointed when that doesn't live up) On that note, their in-house red pepper (?) sauce that they serve with bread is awesome! Given my app sauce did not wow me I did not choice a pasta course but their veal scallopini dish. Comes with spinach and potatoes, neither of which I particularly liked :( Potatoes were dry and low on seasoning. I tried my partner's fusilli in lamb ragu and was quite disappointed! Thankfully our Barolo was great and was the saving grace. They also let us chat till way after dinner. Much appreciated and great gesture Unfortunately if their food was better (esp for the price) I would have definitely gone back.

Went there tonight. Didn't get any photos but we had the calamari, lobster ravioli, and the orecchiette with Shrimp. All tasted very good. The service was very good too - very attentive and they had like 20 specials and the server described all of them impressively without notes. We also had the apple streudle with vanilla ice cream - lightly warmed. The restaurant is a good size and not too crowded. Service is very patient where you can have a nice long dinner - we were there for 3 hours.

We had an absolutely amazing meal. We had the Bronzino with some broccoli and a side of vegetables. The sauce that they serve with the bread when you first sit down is to absolutely die for. Our waiter Abraham is the best.!!

A true Italian atmosphere. Impeccable service. Could not be better. The food was delicious. Funghi, vongole, salad, and homemade pasta, all perfect. Food portions and prices are just right. Wines are overpriced, especially the Barolo wines. We enjoyed it and will return.

The place was very nice, the service was excellent. We started with an order of sauteed mushrooms which were delicious and the fried calamari which was perfect. For our main dishes. We had the homemade spinach, ravioli which were amazing and the Orecchiette with shrimp and broccoli rabe, this was very good, but the shrimp were very small and there were only 4. That was my only disappointment, either add more shrimp or bigger ones. For dessert, we had the chocolate lava cake which was absolutely insanely delicious. We will definitely be back.

Spent time with the in-laws here this weekend. Sat outside on a gorgeous evening, they were very accommodating. Staff very authentic and genuine. Very fresh food, had Burrata appetizer, special was Lobster ravioli, and I shared authentic Fresh fettuccine and bolognese. We had their own limoncello as a cordial after the meal, really incredible. Very enjoyable and delicious evening.

Wow, awesome. I came here for a solo dinner as I was in the city for work. I ended up ordering their pasta special and it was AMAZING. Even before the meal, they brought out bread with a special dipping oil with what I think was sweet red peppers. Delicious. I ended the meal with their tiramisu per my waiters recommendation. So so good. Reservations are recommended. I've been here twice now and it's always been busy.

Went here Saturday afternoon with my girlfriend, we had a great experience here. The ambiance was amazing and comfortable. Waiter as well as the hostess were excellent. Constantly coming to check on our table. We ordered calamari for the table, top tier. I got the Rigatoni plate and my girlfriend got something with thick lasagna noodles with chicken and tomatoes. As well as an apple martini. Zero complaints. It's most certainly on the priced side but that's what you should expect out of a high quality Italian spot. Me and my girlfriend both looked at each other in agreement that this will be our new date night spot any time we are in the area. You won't regret coming here.

We've come here for family dinners since Italian is one of our favorites (note the last time we went was towards the end of last year). I've now come here on at least three separate occasions but most recently, we ordered the following to share: Fried calamari and black mussels and clams with white wine as appetizers. For entrees, I ordered the fettuccine with bolognese sauce and my family ordered: arugula and parmesan salad, salmon with tomato sauce, basil and garlic, linguini frutti di mare (subbed spaghetti for linguini), filet of sole with lemon and capers, veal scaloppini with a brown peppercorn sauce, and a fish special from that day. Tiramisu for dessert as well, another favorite. The food here is solid Italian fare. The waitstaff is nice and you can usually see the manager walking around and even greeting people at the front before you enter and are seated. On days when they're busy, service can sometimes be slightly slower but if you flag someone down, they're pretty attentive. The fried calamari was crispy and the mussels and clams had a nice broth for dipping! In the beginning, you are always served bread with a sundried tomato and olive oil dip (not pictured) and this is definitely a delicious way to tie you over until the food arrives. We love asking for refills of the dip! For my family's entrees, the various proteins were cooked well and everyone enjoyed the flavors and sauces. I do enjoy a good meaty ragu, so my fettuccine bolognese hit the spot as well. I would say dishes are made pretty classically and taste as expected. Ingredients taste fresh and pricing is reasonable for NYC though also slightly more than some other Italian spots depending on what you order. We certainly enjoy eating meals here together and will be back!

Made reservations here a week earlier for a Saturday night dinner at 5:30 with 5 people total. We chose to dine outdoors as we were all still not too comfortable dinning indoors (this was the weekend right before the vaccine status to dine indoors was implemented). There's a couple of tables outside in the front and when we had arrived there were two two tops there. Just looking at the outside and knowing the area, one would expect this to be a moderately sized restaurant. Upon entering those assumptions were debunked. This is a nice a fairly sized restaurant. To the right there's a bars. Once you pass the bar there's stairs on the left the lead up to the main dining area and stairs on the right that lead downstairs where the bathroom and kitchen is located. The dinning room was completely empty at this time and we were seated outside in their courtyard (note the inside and courtyard were completely packed by 6:30). The tables were a bit snug but roomy enough. They had dividers in between the tables and lots of props for this, an air con unit for each table (that was pretty wild). Waiter was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and provided great service. He was attentive but not overbearing. Provided some recommendations for wine which the table loved (we had rose and a pinot noir). Additionally was through in explaining the specials. And amazingly my water glass did not stay empty for long, and trust me I was hydrating! We ordered 1 order of the buffalo mozzarella for the table. The waiter recommended we order 2 since it was small, however since half the table didn't want to eat cheese in addition to what would be in their main, we just ordered 1. And yes he was right the serving size is probably good for about 2 people. Food came out in a timing fashion and everything tasted decent. My only complaint is the veggies that came with my Vitello Saltimbocca were really bland, but I suppose that was balanced with my veal which had relatively salty sauce. Also since we were celebrating a birthday they were nice enough to give us a free dessert and sing happy birthday. Lastly even with the restaurant being pretty busy they didn't rush us out the door. We actually had to ask for the check. Appreciated that they gave us the time to finish our wine and catch up. All in all, decent food and incredible service. Will definitely be returning.

A group of us had a birthday reservation and I could not make it, I called the restaurant and ordered a bottle of wine to be sent to the table. I proceeded to give my credit card information and was asked, what tip amount? I have done this before and NEVER asked to leave a tip. Not to mention they never told the table who sent the wine. Don't think I will be going back

Came here to celebrate my 1 year "in person" wedding anniversary. From the bread to the dessert and after dinner complementary lemoncillo everything was absolutely delicious! Highly recommend especially the burrata appetizer. Wonderful waitstaff with great recommendations, and cozy atmosphere. We'll definitely be back, it was a wonderful experience.

In a word, disappointing. Service and ambiance were great but the food was just meh. Our group of 10 ordered a variety of dishes but none were noteworthy. Unfortunate experience for our first night in NYC. Hard pass on the next visit.

Very good Italian food and wines. We tried the veal and the pastas and a halibut special; everything was good. The staff was attentive to our needs. The space was nice and not overly crowded (we also went on an off night). A solid meal for sure, but also nothing overly special.

I think the service was the best part of the experience and the restaurant. They are helpful and welcoming and seat you pretty quickly. They have a good amount of space as well with an upstairs area which is brighter and more open as well as a downstairs space for the restrooms. The food was good - everything was fresh and well prepared. They also work with you to make sure you enjoy your meal.

Have been here 3 times in the last 2 months. Food has been excellent, service is fabulous and outdoor seating is great. Will be my new favorite for Italian food . Everything was excellent Fresh pasta made from the scratch , very good wine list, and reasonable prices. highly recommend this place for anyone that wants to dine in and or for parties. Had a great solo dinner here to relax and have a good meal. Love the charming romantic ambiance - the back patio is enclosed, heated, and the whole resteraunt has candles on the table. Very cute and intimate environment- great for a date. Ordered -Cabernet from California - fruity/ not sweet -green salad w avocado -sea bass with white wine capers and vegetables -ricotta cheesecake They give you bread to start with a nice little oil tomato sauce, which is cute aswell Everything was perfect for what I was in the mood to eat- the bass and dessert being my favorite items The staff was very warm and welcoming- knowledgeable and kind. Would be back again to try other menu items. Thank you

An excellent Italian restaurant with all the ambiance, service, and great food you would expect. The expansive wine list will provide something for everyone, the only problem is choosing only one! The same goes for the food, from appetizers to the entrees to the desserts, it never fails to impress. I have been here twice, once after the lockdown ended, and once a few weeks ago. I will definitely go back for a third... Highly recommended!

Appetizers were unremarkable as was the Caesar salad However , the veal chop special saved the night! It was flavorful and perfectly cooked with the most delicious sauce.

We were looking for a new place to try in the city and we stumbled upon Barolo East. This was exactly what we were looking for. The classy Italian cuisine coupled with the beautiful indoor/outdoor space in the back made this a perfect spot for us to have dinner. We were going to order off the menu however after hearing the specials from our waiter (Atticus), we decided to switch some of it up. We were not disappointed. The grilled calamari and eggplant rollatini were amazing. The fresh homemade gnocchi and pasta were perfect as well. To top it off, we were not going to get dessert however Atticus suggested that we share a tiramisu and he was not wrong. I never take photos of our food, but this was amazing. Getting a shot of lemoncello was a perfect pairing. We will definitely be going back again!

Came for a work dinner the other night. Waiters were very attentive and cognizant of allergies which was appreciated. I got the gnocchi which was superb. It came in a sauce that was a little, rich, little creamy, but super flavorful. Probably like a white wine butter sauce. The only negative thing I'd say is this: one of my colleagues asked for some advice on which pasta option to get and the waiter literally said every pasta option. Not helpful. Better off providing some actual advice rather than just relisting everything.

Food was excellent and the service was superb. Portions could have been a bit larger but no complaints aside from that.

Nothing beats a great local establishment with fresh homemade pasta ! They have a great patio In the back if you prefer more of the outdoor dinning experience. This had become our weekly place . I LOVE their salads always fresh and flavorful . The other day a had the shrimp bisque soup special this was so good If it was on the regular menu I would probably order it ever time -so good is an understatement We also enjoyed veal saltimbocca with fresh mozzarella, prosciutto & a brown sage sauce. We also enjoy the mushroom risotto which was a big hearty portion perfectly for sharing

The restaurant definitely had an Italian feeling. Plus side: The dishes were made from scratch. Waiters were attentive and checked frequently to refill water. Our desert (tiramisu and chocolate souffle) were delicious Minus side: We thought the dipping sauce that came with the bread was tomato. But it turned out to be red pepper! Two people in our party couldn't eat spicy food and that sauce surprised both of them. Moreover, my linguini pasta with fresh clams was far too salty. I think the cook forgot that clam is saltwater seafood and they should not put so much salt in the pasta that it overburdens the dish. Verdict: Yelppers let me down and I would try another restaurant next time.

I had the pleasure of dining with two of my oldest and dearest friends. Friends that I grew up with who at the time could not boil water but are now tremendous foodies just like myself I couldn't have picked a better time to visit. The food and atmosphere were perfect! If there were flaws, I didn't see any. The wait staff was friendly and accommodating, something you expect to find in a midtown NY restaurant. The only reason I didn't give them five stars was that it was my first visit, and my rule is not on the first date; besides, it gives me a reason to repeat. BB

Delicious homemade pasta and burrata in a nice setting. Service was good but I didn't love that they tried to sell us one of their more expensive wine bottles.

If you are out of mussels, have the waiter say so. Mussels and clams are not interchangeable. One main course was cold.

Gorgeous ambiance- check, candles and romantic setting - check, small family owned - check, HEATED OUTDOOR COVERED PATIO- check !, from scratch Italian food- check, large portions- check, reasonable pricing - check, an incredible manager who makes you feel at home and taken care of CHECK! For a true local experience especially during COVID - it's a must !!

We arrived an hour before closing, and had just arrived in tje city. They welcomed us in and seated immediately. Our server, Anderson, was very pleasant, which contributed to our experience. We had the Branzino special, which was cooked and flavored so lovely. The fettuccine bolognese noodles you could tell were homemade, and the tomato base was sweeter than expected. The choice of music fit our mood at the moment. I would definitely recommend it.

We had such a lovely last dinner in NYC here. We came rather late and were graciously welcomed. To start, we had the calamari which we really enjoyed. We each had our own pastas which were tasty and very fresh. My fiancé loved his pasta which was one of their daily specials. We split a veal dish which was also a daily special. They were kind enough to go ahead and provide this on separate plates which we appreciated. The staff was all very kind and accommodating throughout our dinner. I would definitely go back.

I was looking for a quiet place for a leisurely dinner with friends before a show. We arrived just before 6, and had a very leisurely dinner, though the dining room was filling up as we left. Great food, really good prices for NYC. Several nice specials in addition to the posted menu.

Food, service, atmosphere 100%. They made sure our experience was superb. Wine, was well selected. Food, extraordinary. Salmon, and porcini mushroom risotto were just spectacular.

I attended a large group dinner here that was very successful. Weight staff and kitchen staff were able to work together to serve 12 people all at the same time. People enjoyed various pasta dishes, salads, and meat specials. They even went out of the way to bring out a dessert and make the birthday person feel special. However, please note that if you are celebrating someone's birthday here, they have an exorbitant charge for bringing in outside cake and are not likely to give a free dessert.

Five stars all the way! Great experience! Came here for early dinner one evening, was immediately seated. The restaurant was very nice and clean, romantic soft ambiance. Our server was very nice and experienced, brought us menus right away and gave several recommendations. We ordered several items to share, since we were on a time crunch, we asked the kitchen to help us meet our time, and they were so good about it. The food came out very fast and the presentation was nice. The Caprese salad is a very simple item but was sooo delicious. The ingredients used are definitely of high quality and very fresh, the mozzarella cheese was sooo good. The veal dish was also flavored just right and the meat was cooked nicely. Prices were very reasonable, service was attentive, bathrooms are clean, cute little place. Definitely recommend!
