Barone's

I've been coming to Barone's for decades. It's old school, unique and delicious. It had been a while since we visited since we'd moved out of the San Fernando Valley a few years back, but nothing can prevent Sunday night from being pizza night, and we thought we'd venture back into the old stomping grounds and see if it's what we remembered. It was! We love the old-school Valley/Italian restaurant vibe. One might expect a place like this to feel run down with the decor and old-style booths and tables, but it was as if the place had just opened. Everything was "shiny" and comfortable. The place was also packed on a Sunday. (At least in the dining room they had open. We ordered a medium pie with garlic, onions and tomatoes (extra crispy), and an individual pineapple pizza. (Pineapple pizza naysayers need not apply.) We love the square pies with crispy edges...sort of Sicilian and slightly Detroit style, but really unique, crispy and delicious. It tasted just like the first time I'd had it decades earlier. The house salad we had with it was enough for 3 of us, with a generous amount of non-lettuce items to keep it interesting. Service was friendly and fast. Prices are reasonable. I hope Barone's goes on forever.

Lisa our waitress was great! Food was good! Parking is $8 for vallet. The thin crust pizza was wonderful! Not a budget place, but worth it IMO. Park on the street.

As a local guide I can honestly say I scouting this location and I love the red seats and the bar is beautiful and I can’t wait to return and drink some red sauce. Here r some pics

I was looking for an Italian spot near by and this popped up. Definitely an awesome Italian restaurant with amazing decor and that classic feel. I ordered the calamari, clam chowder and garlic cheese bread with a coffee. The calamari was excellent, perfect flavor, tender and crispy. The clam chowder was good and had lots of clam pieces. The cheese bread was also good, garlic & melted cheese on it. The coffee was also delicious. Great customer service and I’d definitely come back to try their pizza or other menu items. Parking wasn’t that bad but on peak days I see it being hard to park.

OK, I must say, many, many, many moons ago my spouse and I took a few friends there who were visiting from Europe. And the experience we had wasn't the very best. Regarding food and service. And we haven't been there ever since. For the last few months, I pested my spouse to give it another try after all those years. And am I glad I did! This place changed so much. What I/we remembered. We were welcomed by a young friendly lady and led to our table. Shortly after this the waiter, Marco came over ( who turned out to be the bartender also). A very nice and attentive man. It was Friday. Fairly busy but not too much at 9:00 pm. After ordering our drinks, my spouse had a Low Carb Pasta Salad, that was incredibly delicious. Perfect for him as a vegan. He also ordered some Sauteed Artichoke Hearts ( ok, he cheated a little with the butter, and we shared that dish it was seriously OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!! For myself, I ordered Veal Parmigiana. ( Now I must say, I LOVE veal). I have learned nice cuts of veal are hard to come by in general. But when Marco brought my plate of Veal Parmigiana I almost fainted due to a culinary ecstasy attack. Seriously. I love food, I appreciate good food. I appreciate Chefs and cooks who know what they are doing. This particular dish literately almost brought tears into my eyes of deliciousness ( LOL- I just had to make up this word) A huge piece of veal, I had never seen in all those years since I came to this country. Next to it is a nice variety of nicely cooked vegetables. Not overcooked like at most places. An extra bowl of pasta of my choice. Then he brought me a nice side salad I had ordered with the most amazing Italian dressing I have had for a long time. In addition to all this, we also asked for some garlic bread beforehand. This I must say. Was okay-ish and totally overpriced. Sorry. Once, again. The food was incredibly amazing. The service was superb. Thank you, Marco. See, again soon.

We there for the first time. Service is excellent. The food was good. Portions are a little small for the prices they charge. Love that they have low carb options. Great for large gatherings. Valet parking eight dollars and just one handicap parking spot.

I've loved this place all my 40yrs of life. I make everyone I know try their pizza. The ambiance and flavors are truly one of a kind. I pray this place stays open forever.

Awesome old-school red sauce Italian joint. The exact ambience you would expect with very attentive service. The cheese lasagna is amazing! Now, I’m no lasagna connoisseur (such as Garfield), but this is the best I’ve ever had!

This place is old school cool, like Smokehouse meets Lil Toni's. Service was perfect, food was fantastic. Dirty martinis were excellent & not too expensive $13 I believe. But ofc we ordered non well gin & they were $15. I had the spaghetti in meat sauce added a salad, both were good - spaghetti and meat sauce were excellent BUT 20.99 for literally just a plate of pasta & meat sauce is crazy! And with the added salad my total was $27.99. That's expensive, good food but crazy expensive. The pizza looked scrumptious and more wallet friendly. Does come with complimentary bread which was warm & yummy. Valet is $8, so find street parking if you can. And they have Spumoni (which I love) but again, expensive, one scoop was $7. (if you love spumoni, go to Little Toni's on Lankershim; their scoop I think is 3.95).

I went on a Saturday at 2pm. The parking lot was empty....but still had to pay $8. for parking...which I felt was excessive. Large space so good choice if you are a large group. Food was expensive but had good sized portions and was tasty. The price point was high enough that it is a point of hesitation when going back more often. Would love to make this a neighborhood regular hang out, but just cant do these prices all the time. Chicken Parm is $24.99 Spaghetti and Meatballs $19.99 Shrimp Scampi $25.99

After watching a matinee feature of Nosferatu at Regal North Hollywood Theater, my relatives suggested having Italian-American pizza and beer for lunch. We eagerly agreed and knew he meant we were going to nearby Barone's Pizzeria on Oxnard Street, where we've eaten several times since the late 2000s. Upon arrival, we scored an open parking stall near the entrance of the pizzeria/restaurant. From the building's Swiss Chalet-like exterior, you'd not expect to find Italian-American cuisine here. The interior gives off a retro 1940s vibe. Upon closer exploration, our cheery male server explained that the building used to be the former Old Heidelberg Restaurant and Matterhorn Chef (Swiss) restaurant. Also, he said that a scene from the 1982 movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High was filmed in their main dining room. Another fun fact we learned about Barone's Pizzeria is that they were the first restaurant in Los Angeles and Southern California to sell pizza. While scanning the menus, we each ordered 12 oz of Peroni ($7 ea) beer, which we knew was served from draught/draft taps. Our server immediately poured our beer at the bar and returned to order our food. Since the pizzas are made to order, we chose a plate of golden-fried and lightly battered calamari rings and legs (calamari fritti) to quell our growling stomachs. We ordered Barone's famous thin-crust rectangular House Combination ($28.99), which includes pepperoni, sausage, and green peppers, but we requested additional sausage and pepperoni. The medium size is 9" x 12", and we wolfed it down while drinking our beers to wash it down. We enjoyed our lunch at Barone's. Their Sicilian and Neapolitan-style rectangular pizza was the perfect foil to our post-horror/romance movie day. Kudos to our lone server, who managed to maintain his composure and humor while serving the dining room.

Restaurant was nice, decor reminded me of those old school Italian restaurants. Food was a little pricey. Pizza was not that good, crust tasted like it was just microwaved. The lasagna had way too much ricotta cheese. They charged us $3 extra for a tablespoon of mozzarella cheese for our salad but the server didn't inform us of the extra charge. The bus boy kept bringing us wrong dishes that belonged to other tables. Restaurant only offers valet parking for $8 and there isn't a lot of street parking available. Staff was friendly.

Oh my goodness - the very best Italian restaurant. Fantastic pizza, the best I've ever had. Delicious fettuccine alfredo, eggplant parmigiana, tiramisu and cheese lasagna.

Finally got a chance to visit this institution with my husband and I'm so glad we went. It's your classic Italian restaurant with red leather booths and dark furniture with old pictures on the walls - a total vibe. We got the 10" two topping pizza with pepperoni and mushrooms, and the cheese lasagna with meat sauce. The pizza was great! The crust was in between a thin and standard crust, and the sauce was delish. The lasagna was different from what I'm used to; I've never had a lasagna with the meat sauce on the outside and not layered in between, but it was still tasty. Staff were attentive and super accommodating. Parking lot is valet only ($8), but street parking is pretty hard to find around dinner time. Good overall experience.

Like stepping through a time portal... Friends of ours invited us to meet here for dinner. They've come here a number of times and said it's always pretty quiet. Luckily we'd made a reservation because this Friday night the main dining room was packed. Everyone seemed surprised by that, not least of all our server. Though flustered and apologetic, she remained friendly and on top of things for us. Service didn't suffer for how slammed they were, but we felt bad she was stretched so thin. Hope she got herself a good stiff drink at the end of her shift! Speaking of which, drinks were okay. The vibes called for martinis and manhattans, and they were passable. One friend reported acceptable wine. Not a lot of vegetarian options on the dinner menu. Even easily vegetarian pasta indicated it was prepared with chicken broth. I ordered a small Frank's Special pizza (tomato, anchovies, black olives, basil, parmesan). A little sad that it arrived round instead of rectangular like their larger sizes. It was truly small but plenty enough for me. It was fine. I tried a taste of the eggplant parm which was tasty. All in all it wouldn't be my first choice to return to, but I also wouldn't turn down another invitation to come back.

I only tried Barone's because it was used in one of my favourite films, "Fast Times At Ridgemont High", as Rat and Stacy's date restaurant. Though unnamed in the film, the establishment is an erstwhile German restaurant, Old Heidelberg. When Barone's moved in, they didn't change the aesthetic, and it looks nearly the same as it did in the decades-old movie: dark wood, tufted red booths and chairs, stained glass. Though I was mostly excited to be in the filming location, I was pleasantly surprised by how good Barone's food is. The garlic bread is great, the sausages are tasty, the red sauce is flavourful, and the lasagna was a beast: a decadent hunk of their zesty sauce, pasta, and cheese. The small adjacent lot is valet, but there should be plenty of parking down one of the nearby side streets. It's a pretty safe area; no need to worry about anyone stealing your radio whilst you're parked.

Good service. Quality overall was good. Price was what to expect these days. I think we will be back

What a great spot, great pizza and the bartender is awesome! Even the valet guy was super nice. I had veal and I liked it, didn't love it but it was a great dish. I had a taste of pizza from my neighbor that was fabulous! A fabulous old school restaurant! Yay

Barone's is SUCH a classic! Fun Fact: I was a hostess here in high school, so I definitely have a soft spot for it. I love love love their pizza. I love how the toppings are nestled under the cheese and the crispy edges on the square crust. I love the old school red booths. Recently I visited on a Friday night (for national pizza day!) and it was BUSY. I made a reservation in advance, and I'm glad I did. I saw a lot of families and large groups dining here, though we came here for date night. I typically order the Barone's salad and a mushroom, olive, sausage pizza. The salad is a portion for two which is nice. I somehow remember there being more toppings on this salad, but it's actually pretty basic. However, it's the DRESSING! Nom nom nom. I dream about that dressing. We ordered a medium pizza which was plenty for two people. I love the flavor of the toppings and the cheese. This particular time, the crust of our pizza wasn't as crisp as I would have liked. When you picked it up, it kind of flopped over. Tasty nonetheless! I also tried the garlic bread for the first time and that was definitely a winner. With our meal, we enjoyed dirty martinis which were very good. Not too salty, just right. Service was good and our booth was comfortable. Parking is very difficult, but they have valet for $8. This is a classic Valley establishment and I highly recommend coming at least once to experience it!

My neighborhood favorite. I've been coming to this restaurant since I was in my teens and it was located on Ventura Boulevard now luckily I live up the street from this location. I love meeting friends for drinks. Their pizza is amazing. They're Barones. Chopped salad is one of my favorites. They always treat you like family and make you feel at home.

Food is delicious, always on point and Teresa is the most phenomenal wait person there. The biggest downside is the one specific host could definitely brush up on her manners as well as her attitude adjustment because no matter the day she is always unpleasant and it feels like she hates her job of seating you. She is rude, direct and intolerable. If the establishment is in error she will be passive aggressive instead of apologizing and just making it right.

Great square pizza. Love the bathrooms! Employee bathroom was the best. Door opens front and back. Lots of fun!

Called in AM to ask if they could acommodate a party of 21 for that evening. They said "yes". GREAT! Everyone was then notified of time and place. In the PM, they called and changed their mind and said "no" just two hours before the reservation time. Sorry, but we are finished with these people.

Been here a few times. I live only a few minutes away walking so might as well. Pretty average actually. Not worth the money for most stuff. I do like the calamari though and the house special vodka martini. Maybe come during happy hour.

I have been going to Barone's since before you were born! I am old as dirt! Last night I ordered two large pizzas and two Barone's salads for my mother's 94th birthday party. Ya, she is 94! How old do you think I am???? Pizzas were ok but not great. The sausage part of one of the pizzas was truly not good. With that, nothing could compare to the salads. The photo attached is from the following day. Blow it up and see if you can find any piece of lettuce that is not brown, I DARE YA! The salad I served last night,,,, I had to judiciously go through and pick out most of the lettuce as it was brown upon purchase. DISGUSTIMONDO! Oh Barone's, so sad! Humbly submitted, Moi

We stopped by a couple weeks ago and the food did not disappoint! The ambiance gives a 1940s diner or old vegas vibes from the red vinyl booths & couches to the miscellaneous framed photos - which I love! We started with crab stuffed mushrooms, which were packed with flavor and the ingredients noticably top quality. Then we ordered the House combination -- add jalapeños and and made sure to order extra to take home this time. We added a Barones Italian salad with homemade Italian dressing (which I could drink it was so tasty, haha). Service was good and quick. Minus one star for valet parking when the lot is empty. It makes sense for peak hours or reservation nights, but not as much when there are only a few cars in the huge lot.

Excellent food is all I have to say. My husband and I come here on special occasions. I love the meat ravioli and he loves the mostaccioli. They have good service and a nice atmosphere. I highly recommend it.

Barone's has my absolute favorite pizza, but there is no shortage of good items on the menu. We order take out mostly, but the service is attentive and the restaurant is a real throwback vibe.

Well we came here not knowing what to expect. This place is out of this world! We're still here and writing this review. They're hustling as fast as they can here so have patience. They even box the food away from you which I haven't seen in a very long time. I can tell this place is a hidden gem that people have yet to discover. We ordered a little bit of everything. Appetizer, salad, pasta and pizza! Everything was so good honestly and it was indescribable. From the sauce to the pizza to the cheese and crab stuffed mushrooms. We didn't catch our servers names but she was incredible! She was hosting everyone. Please be patient coming here cause it might be understaffed. The food is worth it. The drinks are strong and inexpensive. The vibe is classic in my opinion. Very traditional New Jersey Italian

Another great time was had! The joint was jumping too. We all got there about 6:30pm. Our server MARCO deserves a medal! Thank you Marco! We had varying degrees of 'Dirty Martinis'. I stuck with Coronas. 2 of us ordered the best pizza ever! I ordered the medium House Combination pizza. Wow. Took some home too! Having it in about an hour :) I saw filet mignon, pasta...great appetizers too! Mushrooms, Calamari...more beers please :). So good. I haven't been there in a few years, can't wait to go back. Great food, great service and very friendly staff. Quiet and nice ambiance close to when they open, gets crowded during lunch. I got the shrimp marinara with linguine, and I tried Hubby's lasagna , both heavenly. Pair it with wine

Another great meal at Barone's I took my kiddos this time and they were more than accommodating. We ordered 4 appetizers for one adult and two kids and split them like tapas . We got the fried zucchini , the appetizer pizza(enough for 3 to share if some are kids or 2 adults to share),garlic cheese bread and the calamari. The price was very fair and they are amazing for being a valley staple. Highly recommended for Italian food for adults and kids alike.

Barone's is a Valley staple!! It's your prototypical red-boothed Italian restaurant that has the vibe that makes you feel like you take a step back in time. Staff was attentive and got us seated in a booth very shortly after we arrived to a "full house" and the only option at first was the bar. The pizza is great and a nice balance between doughy and thin and crispy. I love the film history here too - Fast Times at Ridgemont High AND I just found out it's where Ron Howard and his wife went on their first date back in the day! Street parking is tough so be prepared to spend $8 on valet. Not my favorite - but it's the only option to park on site.

Barone's is an institution, but I'd like more portions. Juan was our waiter and was very particular about how we were served, which was great. They offer a full bar and I must try the pizza.

This place is where you go for a fun time with family and friends while having to loosing up your belt after dinner! Came here for a very belated birthday dinner with friends, and it didn't not disappoint. Service: phenomenal. 11/10. Lasagna: I love me some lasagna. This one was cheesy, meaty, and saucy. I ordered it with homemade meatballs and let me tell you, I have had some subpar meatballs at countless Italian restaurants--Barone's isn't one of them. Solid dish. Fettuccine Alfredo: I tried some off my friend's dish. The noodles were cooked al dente, as it should be with Fettuccine Alfredo. The Alfredo sauce was creamy, not a hint of watery discomposure. But...the star... Cheesecake: Arguably the best cheesecake I have tried at a restaurant in my entire life. Creamy, cheesy, with a buttery and subtly sweet crust. Get it with the strawberry topping, because how else would one eat a cheesecake? Barone's, you have a lifelong regular in me--I must try one of your famous pizzas!

Been in the Valley since 1094 and 30 years later I finally visit world famous Barone's. Atmosphere = A+. Food = A+, and guess what.....actual Italians run the joint! Put it this way, the place is so good I might just make this my weekly dinner spot. The customer experience is that awesome! I was recommended by someone who frequents here often and now I see why.

Great martinis! Had a delicious chicken piccata too. The atmosphere was so cool and reminded me of Fast Times at Ridgemont High. We'll be back with a bigger group.

Came here to celebrate a friends birthday! The food did not disappoint! Teresa was our server and she was very fun and attentive!! Old school Italian that's been here since 1945. Great time!

Meh. The pizza is good everything else was dry and very bland. I mean ragu from the can marinara bland. The garlic bread was 10 bucks and had no butter on it just dry with garlic. You will see what I mean. If you come here get pizza only. Under staffed etc. 2.5 stars. Bartender was cool.

Barone's charges to valet their private lot, $8 (missing star) I get why, they want more people to fit in the small lot but still that was quite pricy. Fam came for a celebration, 13 of us! I really liked that our server was good at upselling, she was nice to say, "Soup or Salad, for an additional charge" She asked each and every one of us. They were busy and kept everyone on one side of the restaurant, it was very loud, we were all yelling to hear each other. The pizza was terrible, maybe I hold a higher standard but it wasn't just me a couple of people in my party which tried it, agreed. The spaghetti and meat balls, typical nothing special. (missing star) Glad I got to try them since they've been around forever.

With so much to choose from on the menu you can't go wrong at Barone's.With speedy service and a smile I received the complimentary bread basket and my lasagna. It was a huge portion and the sauce was so tasty. There's a bar if you just want a drink and apppetizer.The booths are so cozy for date night .Plenty of parking in their lot .I can't wait for my return to try something new off the menu.

Great Food and wonderful dinning experience. With fast and friendly service I ordered the amazing cheese Ravioli, the sauce was so delicious plus it came with a complimentary bread basket. So Much to choose from on the menu, can't wait to come back and order something else.Plus a full service bar for your cocktail needs.The restaurant is so cozy and intimate, great for a night out or a business luncheon. Plenty of free parking in their lot.

Excellent service, fun atmosphere (red booths make it a fun place to celebrate!), and the best pizza and house salad dressing! Both are like nothing I've ever tasted before. Definitely unique to Barone's!

food is fantastic, staff friendly and professional , and there's really nothing like a red-sauce italian joint with red naugahyde booths and wood paneling. never had a bad dish and the dirty martinis and spumoni just round out an amazing meal

I lived to 10 years and had never gone here....Because of all the dingleberries and their one star reviews. Finally, I came. I was amazing. Great service. Delicious food. It's Italian with a Barones twist. I highly recommend. I would come here weekly. Big red booths. Yes please. Piccata, chopped salad! and the tiramisu was to die for. Bravo.

The food is awesome they have been around since 1945 the pizza is the best we also had a salad We had the combo with anchovies yummy I have not eaten here since I was a kid and the pizza and the red booths bring back great childhood memories

Love Barone's! My parents started eating here when they were dating in 1946! Our whole family ate here as children... now as adults! Will be bringing my Grandson when he visits. They have been in business all these years for a reason!

Decent food, long wait. Update your website! Prices are a lot higher than listed, a lot!

I have been eating here for years and it's still as great as ever! Marco provided excellent service and we had a great experience! Best pizza there is nothing like it!! Try the garlic bread and Barone's salad, too!! Bravo!

Went today for an early dinner/late lunch. Totally delicious. Had the calamari, Italian salad (requested chopped), and pizza with sausage, pepperoni, green pepper and mushrooms. Topped the experience off with the dark chocolate cappuccino ice cream! The service was great, food fantastic, restaurant spotlessly clean. Will def be back!

I've been going to Barone's since the 1960's when there was a location on Riverside Dr in Burbank. It was and still is my favorite pizza. I'm so glad this location continues on the tradition. I wish I lived closer so I could go more often.

This is a great old school Italian restaurant. My family has been going for years and the food is always great, especially the pizza, stuffed mushrooms and salmon! My wife and I had our wedding celebration/reception there and the staff were rock stars - all went better than we hoped and the food and service was excellent! Laura and Teressa were a great team and made our special day perfect! Thank you both very much from the Shepherd family - we will be customers for life.
