cute spot with some nice potential vibes. we stopped by early on a saturday for a quick-ish dinner. i’m pretty big fan of tango sur and the convenience shop attached to it (i get ~50 empanadas for my bday party each year) and tango sur has excellent ambience and desserts. this place however was a bit off the mark for me: i was excited to eat the milanesa (my fav argentine dish) after having some excellent ones in buenos aires last october. sadly it wasn’t as good as i was expecting or that i’ve had before. also had to ask for lemon which seems pretty standard when ordering milanesa usually. too much chimichurri sauce for everything. the sad little salad (a chopped tomato with a few leaves of lettuce) didn’t add up to the $25 dollar milanesa. (it’s basically a breaded half of a chicken breast). the cocktails were just okay, also had to ask for one of the missing ingredients (i saw them open a new can of cherries once i asked, seems like they just didn’t want to bother the first time around). they also didn’t have a bunch of the empanadas (the sweet beef and the corn ones are the best ones they make and were missing from the menu but available on the other menu we had). and they also didn’t have the inka cola or other colas (also available on the menu). thought this was odd considering they had just opened for the day. the dessert which i always love at tango sur, was good but the flan was a bit discombobulated when i got it, but generally tasted fine. the one at barra ñ randomly has strawberry syrup and powdered sugar (unnecessary), which is different than the one i typically get at tango sur. i’d love to say i’d come back, but the pricing is just a little out of control for the food provided. and although i LOVE bad bunny, i think the blasting of the music inside the small restaurant at 5:45p is a little ridiculous. made it harder to have a convo at the table.

Desserts are solid, including the flan, alfajores, mil hojas, and the vainilla y coco pastel. I recommend saving room for dessert!

Cozy bar with great staff. We asked for the food to come out as it was ready but instead all the food came out at once, appetizers and steaks all together. The drinks were great and tasty. There are mosquitos outside at night and no candles or fans to blow them away. Unfortunately, when we got home we all had a stomachache, one of my friend felt really nauseous. Would I go back? Maybe, but will bring mosquito repellent and ask the cook to check the meat before ordering.

Very strongly seasoned steaks and not as tender, perhaps it was overcooked. Loved the fresh tomato salad with chimichurri sauce. The 6 empanadas of mixed flavors is definitely something I’d go for again. Also liked the eggplant escabeche though it can be refined a bit. The place is very dark and I don’t like the idea of not seeing my food clearly. But if your looking for a place with a good bar and music, this would do. I rated it 3 because of the price point.

Had an amazing night with the best group of people. Danced until I couldn’t feel my thighs. Had the opportunity to watch dance 🕺 and vibe with Dj ROHO and Dj Slinky. They were mixing some awesome music 🎶 had delicious drinks that were super refreshing. I didn’t expect the horchata to be so strong 💪🏽🤓 the empanadas were also loaded with deliciousness. I highly recommend to stop by and check this place out.

Love this place but this last time I was there, brought some friends from Long Beach and was expecting them to experience the same incredible vibes with live DJ that they usually have on a Saturday night but this particular night there was no live music or DJ. Wasn't the same experience but the food was amazing. The flan is one of the best I have ever had. (Pictured)

Overpriced and underwhelming. Bad experience overall. We made a reservation and mentioned it was a birthday and they didn't even acknowledge it. The steak was half the size that they had pictured on OpenTable then the steak had 0 flavor. I don't mind paying for steak but this was bad and I will never be back.

Good breakfast menu. Very upbeat vibes. Service was good on a very busy Saturday morning. Good local restaurant. One of our children's favorite neighborhood restaurants.

We came here on a whim. We called ahead of time and Dani assured us that we'd have a table for 4. We came in and had the best time. The drinks keep pouring and the service was stellar regardless of who came to our table. Gricelda, checked on us a few times and took drink orders as well! We will be back. I own a business locally and a stickler for customer experience. Today y'all were top tier

Really great neighborhood spot for dinner or drinks. I went here last night for my birthday with my best friend.. we always do a little dinner just the two of us. This was my first time at Barra Ñ even though I've heard about it many times. It's a dark and moody vibe inside, the bar was lively and busy, and yet the table areas were pretty quiet and chill. Service was solid, all of our requests were handled quickly and pleasantly. Dani, who greeted me upon arrival and checked in on us several times, was a real sweetie. He brought a wonderful levity and energy to the entire feel of the place. He was also very helpful and constantly keeping an eye out for anything anyone needed. The food was solid. The filet was excellent and a very generous portion. Perfectly cooked to my request. The mashed potatoes were great and I ordered a side of the mushroom sauce that comes with another dish to enjoy with the potatoes and that was a great call. That mushroom sauce is so savory and delightful! Hoping to come back soon to try different drinks and more apps. The birthday dessert was very kind of the staff and really lovely!

After visiting restaurants "Tango Sur" and "Bodega Sur" several times, we were ready to branch out and try Barra Ñ, their sister restaurant! We walked in and were offered indoor/outdoor seating. The atmosphere inside was very dark and loud so we chose outside. We were excited to order alcoholic beverages knowing the other restaurants are B.Y.O.B. Our server came to us promptly and asked for our drink/appetizer orders, water was served. I ordered white sangria - he ordered a coconut Caipirinha. We received the drinks about 10 minutes later , I was served a red sangria. (I still like red but not as much as white so I didn't say anything because I hate to complain but I still would have preferred to get white sangria, as I had ordered). It was just ok. When I order sangria I expect it to have more than just 1 small piece of watermelon and 1 orange slice on top of the rim of the glass. When she served it to me it was so full it actually dripped down through the metal table and all over my pants. His drink was delicious, I should have ordered that. We ordered empanadas (spinach and cheese), hoping they would be as delicious as the empanadas at Tango Sur. 15 minutes later, empanadas came out with the signature chimichurri sauce. The empanadas were delicious- hot and filled. I felt the chimichurri sauce wasn't as savory as at Tango Sur. When we get chimichurri from the other restaurants I burp garlic literally into the next day, to be honest - and I love it. I ordered Tallarines with tomato sauce and added grilled chicken. He had Filet medium rare and it came with a small tomato and onion salad. We ordered sides of mashed potatoes and grilled veggies. His steak was slightly salty but cooked to perfection, melted in your mouth. The side salad was decent. The mashed potatoes were fluffy. The grilled veggies were delicious but needed some sort of seasoning , we just poured the extra chimichurri we had on top. The Tallarines were good, mediocre - the best part was the chicken. The chicken in the Tallarines was delicious. The sauce needed more flavor. An employee (I'm not sure if he was the bartender, manager or a server) was doing table touches and came and asked how our dinner was. We had finished our drinks already so he asked my husband if he would like another. My husband wasn't sure what to order so he asked him for something fruity. The bartender had our server bring the drink about 15 minutes later. The drink was delicious- like a watermelon jolly rancher. I ordered a Paloma, it was good. Overall, it was ok. It was more expensive the Tango Sur but much less of a dining experience. I don't know if we will come back to Barra Ñ but next time just stick to what we know- the other restaurants. The music at this restaurant- they definitely got that right. My husband kept Shazamming the music. We were feeling the vibe, just wish the good matched the AMAZING music selection.

Waiter was a lil rude to one of my friends by dismissing something she said and just being kinda short in response in general with a fake happy tone. Food is pricier but not even special. Inside was decked out for halloween which was cool but nothing special in general. It's a dark lit vibe. My friend ordered bread but they were more like crackers/bread crisps. My other friends seemed to enjoy their empanadas though! I hade the molle sandwich which i didn't particularly like.

I would give this place 3 1/2 stars . This is my second time visiting. First time was not good at all . Second time was better . I got the entrana medium well and it was delicious. It comes with a salad but honestly it was a soup cup filled with tomato and a couple pieces of lettuce and onion. I wish it came with another side like mashed potatoes. The spinach and cheese empanadas were delicious! I also got the passion fruit mojito which was strong but good! The prices are a bit high for portions for sure.

HORRIBLE SERVICE. We had an event that was hosting 6/9/2024. Everyone was having a good time that one of the waiters dropped all the drinks on my niece and did she did not even apologize or cleaned the mess. It was embarrassing and we waited for the event to end for at least the lady to come apologize. Our bill was almost $300 and not even a discount for dropping all the beverages. When asking the guys at the bar they all were not trying to be responsible for what had happened or did not want to compensate at least something on the house. When we asked to talk to the manager there was no in charge that day. One bartender said let Me go see what I can do and promised to give us free shots. He came from the back room and just kept taking people orders. At this point, my group of tried of waiting and wanted to order drinks at the bar. When we tried to place an order they said no more drinks for the rest of the night and that the bar was closed already. It was only 10pm and they said to turn on the lights as a signal like you guys can leave now. On the website and the door it says they are open till 1am. Never planning to go back to this place for the way we were treated.

We have now been to this place twice and are sorry we took so long to go. We sat outside on a lovely evening food was great. Service was good, we had a couple kinks, but were rewarded with a plate of desserts!!!! The drinks are amazing, and really creative. We went again one evening after a concert and sat at the bar. Turns out , Charley was he mixologist and creator of the cocktail menu.

Delicious food and handcrafted cocktails. Amaxing mojitos. Service and patio seating was average. It's a great place to go with friends, and bond over yummy dishes.

I love Barra N and have been coming here for over 10 years. This last visit was actually for drinks with a friend for my birthday and I chose the spot based on past visits. I love the intimacy, aesthetic and overall vibe. Good drinks and music. The empanadas are delicious and hearty. It's a cute spot for a night out with girlfriends, celebrating or a date. The only negative is the front of house service. Waitstaff were cordial, but not really friendly, and extremely slow. Although the place was busy, our food came out before our drinks, the waitress just never really checked on us and we had to ask about where our drinks were. There seemed to be a disconnect between the bar, waitstaff and kitchen. I'll definitely be back but was disappointed on this last visit since it was my birthday.

This place is tiny but mighty. It is adorable, full of personality, and the drinks are yummy. What more do you want? Right? Well you want to know about food but since I have only drank there I can't speak to that. But I have to say the drinks are delish and so creative. As expected, there are a ton of tequila options, but they also have a full bar so they can make any drink you want. The decor is very cool. So dark and so romantic but also very cozy. The have a dj too so come and enjoy a fun time with friends or just a cute/relaxed date night with your SO. You will be impressed

So there I was- checking my phone to see where this girl Lauren who is an attorney was. She recommended this place for our first date and even confirmed it the night before. So I was shocked as I was sitting there about to ask her her ETA to discover that she unmatched with me and ghosted. So I had to make the decision should I stay or should I go... I stayed and I'm happy I did! Enter Sonia! My beautiful and fun waitress who heard my story, said that sucks (it does) and proceeded to recommend the corn and beef empanadas which were fantastic! She was great and upbeat and made me feel comfortable. So I'm glad I stayed and glad to have had a little bit of company anyway. The back porch has a set of couches that are lovely along with several high tops. The sunset was lovely. The lights at night are wonderfully atmospheric and I just liked this place overall. I gave it four stars because of cost. Otherwise they did a lively job here and made my night. Thanks Sonia! Cheers!

Me and my friend came here for their happy hour. The drinks were great as well as the food. I would love to come back again soon. The service as also attentive. I also loved their argentine sausage and alfajores

The drinks were good Food was not that interesting. I just felt like it's over priced, simple meals.

We really enjoyed our dinner here. We started with the bruschetta which was on a garlic bread and so good! I had the filet and my husband had the strip steak. We both were very happy with our meals. We also had fun with the mojitos as well; they have some fun flavors. It was a little pricey, but we will come back for sure!

We've been here a few times and it's amazing. Food is top notch, cocktails are great, prices are reasonable, but it's the staff/atmosphere that set it over the top. We went for a birthday with kiddos in toe and the staff were so friendly to the whole family. We were there on the early side and they played some fun songs for our kids. Recently stumbled in on a whim, we didn't know they were closing up following an event, they welcomed us in anyway, made us some great cocktails and treated us like family. I can't reccomend N enough. Get a caipirinha, you won't be disappointed!

I have driven by this place countless times. Finally stopped and I am glad I did. The Drinks are out of this world! I do think after two, you definitely need a designated driver, they have a super punch to the punch! Staff was knowledgeable about the food and drink menu, which was very helpful. We had marinated eggplant to start, it was a big order which we didn't finish, and a good starter. I ordered the Rib Eye which they are know for, it was ok, I can make it better at home on the grill, but that wasn't the point here. Overall, a great experience - we will be back.

What a wonderful find! This is a gem! The food was great, cocktails outstanding and service friendly and top notch. I wish we could have stayed later as it looks like you can dance a bit more after 10.

Stopped in last week - great atmosphere and the corn empanadas are one of the best things I've ever tasted. Food was A+, service was A+ and the bartender we had was attentive and accommodating. Will continue to go back and to support this awesome local spot. The only reason why I took off 1 star is because of the BAR STOOLS. Not exaggerating, one of the most uncomfortable things I've ever placed my cheeks on (and they've been a lot of different places). Standing was preferable. If I was given the choice of sitting there again, or listening to Nickelback on repeat for 24 hours straight, I would choose Chad Kroeger. Otherwise, keep doing what you're doing. You guys are the best.

Covid-19 Review (Patio Dining) Ñ was the first place we ventured out after patios were opened. We went on 7/18/20, and we can say that the patio was a great (fun and safe) experience. They had a DJ playing music, which at first I was like ???? But then quickly became a fan. The DJ was great, and the music transported us to a time before COVID when there were no cares in the world while dining out. Food & Drink: La Pasion (Leblon, passion fruit nectar, simple syrup) delicious, fresh summer drink. Mojito- Fresh mint, delicious (transports you to a beach somewhere). Oaxacan Mula- twist on a traditional mule with Oaxacan mezcal. Good version of the Mula. For appetizers, we had the Mezcla de Mar and the Chorizo trio. The Mixto is a sort of oily (Mediterranean inspired) ceviche. Very delicious as it had a mix of seafood marinated in a garlic olive oil vinaigrette. Very delicious, recommend if you're into seafood and ceviche. The Chorizo trio was also delicious. I would recommend it if you like sausage/chorizo. We loved the traditional chorizo and the spicy chorizo. It also came with morcilla (blood sausage); not my favorite sausage but if you like it, it's a good version. The sausages were served with chimichurri & salsa Criolla. We put the salsa Criolla on the Mezcla and it was an added dimension to the dish. Entraña (10oz Argentine all-natural outer skirt steak served with chimichurri, french fries or salad), and the Filet (10oz grilled filet mignon served with chimichurri). Both were delicious (we went medium/medium-rare). They came with fries (soo good!) and a tomato/onion salad that was the perfect vinegary taste to go with the grilled meat. We were told these two were the best sellers and we highly recommend them if it's your first time in an Argentinian steak house. For dessert, we had the Alfajores and they were the best Alfajores I have ever tried. The dulce de leche tasted homemade but without being too dense/overpowering the cookie. So good! Service: Everyone from the hostess to the busboys and everyone in between was kind and efficient. Quickly in and out with orders; quickly cleaned the tables; still great at recommending favorite dishes. We saw everyone wearing a mask (and man, props to them because the heat index was over 100 degrees). We also saw employees keeping their distance and maneuvering guests in regards to tables. Lastly, we also saw employees cleaning the tables in between guests; in my opinion, they did a great job cleaning the entire table with a bleachy/soapy substance. All in all, I would recommend Ñ for dinner because they offer delicious food, excellent service, and have safe COVID guest guidelines as well as cleaning protocols. Additional: Ñ comes from the same owners as Folklore and I would describe it as the more casual of the two. Still delicious, still be and be seen (if that's your thing) but without the pretentiousness of Division St. and with easier street parking. There is a 2-hour max for the patio. They offer QR code menus. Paperless paying (no cash). Parking was not difficult to find.

Barra Ñ on the corner of elston and Rockwell/Wellington has THE BEST drinks. They're $15 each but they have like 3oz liquor and they are super well balanced and delicious. I've been here a few times the past month. The empanadas are FIRE!! The steaks are cooked perfectly and the best price in the city. last night I had the grilled chicken (pechuga) it was cooked perfectly, flavorful and juicy. Tonight I came back because it was so good and I had the camarones a la parilla and the beef empanadas. The watermelon margaritas are hitting the spot. Don't sleep on this place. It is small and quaint but it is SO GOOD! Check it out!!! Ask for Dani the bartender. He makes good drinks. And so does Charlie!

This was an excellent surprise, passed this place dozens if not hundreds of times. Atmosphere is super cozy, and the service is great. They have some outstanding cocktails that run the whole gamut which are excellently prepared and balanced. The Argentinian steak was chared just perfectly and full of flavor. The empanadas and kabobs we had were both terrific. Overall just an outstanding experience that I highly recommend for food, drinks and service.

The food was subpar. The only thing that's saving it from being 1 star was the empanadas and dessert. For this to be a steak house, the meet was very poor quality, super chewy. My table ordered all different cuts and still had the same reaction. We tried to order two burgers but they only had one burger in the kitchen.. idk how that was possible. Server was somewhat attentive and tried to rectify it but didn't really do much. It was also very dark, I get setting the mood but it was a bit like getting ready for bed.

BYOL- bring your own light! Super dark but comfortable environment. Food was ok, ordered Vacío and Picanha and both were just ok but the fries were great! Empanadas were good too! Corn and cheese is where it's at! Drinks.....oh the drinks, were bland and all liquor. Service was inattentive and extremely slow, speed of food from order to table was good. Update: I post the above review prior to Paying. The bill is presented (party of 6) which is a total of $405, which seemed high, we dug in line by line and found that gratuity was charged at 20% TWICE, one of the charges was also taxed. When brought to the waitress attention, she did not seem surprised and shared she would take a look, came back and advised that we pay the amount shown before second subtotal because they could not fix the issue(this included paying a higher amount as gratuity is being taxed. Very disappointed and wonder if this is a standard practice for them? ‍Highlight- waitress brought phone to friend who forgot it and the DJ was awesome

This place is great! The food is delicious and the drinks are fantastic! Definitely coming back to try the whole menu! The service was fine our server was very sweet. Definitely make reservations before coming. The parking is free on the street that's a plus.

I went with my two sons to celebrate Mother's Day. Thank you sons and thank you Barra. The chorizo appetizer is to die for, yes, to die for. The drinks are amazing, and the steaks are crazy good, cooked to perfection. The staff is so considerate, helpful, and lovely!

Right near Metropolitan brewery. Empanatas and beer is the best. I love the spinach and cheese.

Came here on a Friday night. We ordered the 6 empanadas appetizer. The ham and cheese empanadas are delicious, we weren't to fond of the spinach and cheese empanadas. The steaks were seasoned perfectly and super juicy! I ordered a coconut mojito followed by a passion fruit mojito, and both were delicious. It is pricy to eat here. $30-38 for a steak. Any sides are sold separately. The 6 empanadas appetizer was $19 I believe. And the mojitos were listed at $11-14. Also the waitress stated the salsa/ dancing music is on Saturdays.

Well, it's been a while since I been back and I'm happy to say that the lights aren't as dim, bartenders are more efficient , and the food still remains delicious. The place remains an Avondale staple for almost 20 years. The Filet was soft as butter, the empanadas are a great deal for the price, and the drinks are on point. Thankfully, the sound wasn't at peak levels with a half empty venue. Looks like I'll be back for more

Wow wow wow! With the cutest patio, perfectly flavored steaks, and drinks to hit the spot, Ñ is a great date night spot! I enjoyed the Vació sooo much, it's cooked perfectly and the chimichurri is the perfect touch. Drinks, La Negra is sweet, and definitely recommended if you prefer sweet fruity drinks. Vampiro and Toronto are right up my alley and super enjoyable if you like mezcal. I really enjoyed this place and highly recommend it!

Great ambiance with a very cool vibe. Food was really good. Corn and cheese empanadas were the best. Really great cocktails and lots to choose from. I ordered the Atlantic salmon in orange butter caper sauce and it was delicious. And Noqui, potato dumpling with tomato cream is a must try. I plan to go back and have found my new favorite spot. Highly recommended!

The food was actually really good. Got a lot of steak dishes and empanadas we all loved, but they didn't have plastic wear for take out; we didn't eat the salad. We brought it to a local brewery and had to eat with our hands. Thank goodness someone had a knife to cut the food. It was all very good just giving 1 less star for not having takeout gear.

I'm disappointed with poor services, the small portion of the food (mashed potatoes and salad, (the salad came in soup cup)!! My drink filled with more Ice than the drink itself. I asked for some bread, to my surprised I was charged $5.00 for a few slices of bread. The waitress never asked how I wanted my steak to be cooked, and the music was loud and poor music selection of an Argentinian cuisine....How about a tango music instead!!! To my Suprise again... they were out of Argentinian beer...Ugh!!@#@#

Been coming to this place 10 plus years.... wed nights are awesome.... spend some time listening to good music from dj edlo and amazing drinks from our bartender DANI!!!!

Finally got a chance to visit this place after a few failed attempts by the gf to bring me here. Nice Miami/Latin feel to it! Great sexy atmosphere and music. This place draws a very diverse crowd. The DJ rocked the house! They have a back seating area if the front is filled and the bar is sort of small. I tried the Mojito & Caipirinhas and they were both great. Around 11PM the place transformed from just a bar/ restaurant into a latin dance club, I mean people started burning up the floor and after we saw that, my friends and I joined in the festivities. I immediately thought this place was great! The staff was very friendly especially the people behind the bar. I dropped my hat at some point during the evening and I went crazy looking for it. I gave up and as a last resort asked the bartenders if they had seen it and he pulled it out and gave it to me. I thought that was really nice of him. I will definately try this place again and again!

This is one of THE MOST randomest places I have ever been to in the city of Chicago and if I didn't happen to live so close and drive past it every day, I would NEVER, EVER have seen it or stopped by. From the outside it looks very much like a sketchy dark black hole on the corner of a 6-way intersection. Good thing the inside was much better. Empanadas: 6 medium-sized empanadas for $13. My favorites: sweet beef, corn, and chicken and cheese. All three were superrrrrrr yummy to the point where I couldn't pick an absolute favorite. The spinach and cheese was the only one I didn't particularly like. Provolone cheese oven baked - Perfectly hot and melted when they bring it over. It's so tasty with the bread. Marinated eggplant (served cold) - A very interesting dish that somehow reminded me of pickled Taiwanese cucumbers. It wasn't something I really enjoyed eating by itself but when you eat it with the bread, it totally changed my perspective. Better yet, put a layer of the provolone cheese on top of the bread, then put the eggplant on top of that. It's like a perfect little bite! I wish they brought more bread initially with the provolone and the eggplant because both were medium to large sized appetizers that really needed to have the bread on the side. Also, we were a party of 4 yet the bread was cut into slices of 3. Thankfully, we (awkwardly) asked for more bread several times and the waitresses were very accommodating. I don't believe we were charged extra either! Drinks: We each started off with a mojito of different flavors. My favorite was the pineapple juice followed by the mango puree. The La Negra smelled and tasted very berrylicious and the alcohol kicked in at the end of each sip. I personally would stay clear of the Mala vida - it was like drinking alcohol cough syrup and the El Vampiro - cool name but holy smokes I almost choked. All in all, it's quite the random place to spend an evening (note: it's also pretty empty in the immediate surrounding vicinity) but I had a wonderful time lounging around and catching up with friends.

The only good thing about this place were the drinks and empanadas. My boyfriend and I were celebrating an anniversary and ordered a $45 plate for 2 called the "Asadito" and it was not worth it at all. Very small pieces of meat, very chewy and not the best quality. The chicken was cut into tiny pieces almost like chicken nuggets and overall it was just very overpriced for the amount we got. The plate comes with French fries and we added 2 eggs to it and the total was $55 after that... We could have gone to an actual steakhouse if we wanted to pay higher prices for a nice size portion. The music selection the DJ was playing was terrible and I was told there is no longer live music since the pandemic. Very disappointed and will not be coming back.
