The 34 Best Restaurants in Madrid, Spain | Eater

"After earning a Michelin star at Punto MX, chef Roberto Ruiz decided to close the restaurant during the pandemic and leave behind tasting menus. His newer, more casual concept, Barracuda, remains one of the best representations of haute Mexican cuisine in Spain, focused on the fresh flavors that compose the 5,000 miles of Mexican Pacific coastline. Ruiz relies on Mexican recipes but utilizes local produce to achieve perfect aguachiles, ceviches, and sea bass a la talla, as well as more ambitious dishes like wagyu memelas or bone marrow accompanied by red tuna tostadas. If that weren’t enough, there’s a tequila and mezcal cart that parades around the tables. Vibe check: For a fun night out, visit during taco Tuesdays or mariachi Wednesdays." - Paula Móvil

"A casual and informal restaurant that showcases cuisine from Mexico’s Pacific coast, albeit with a lighter touch and a focus on fish and seafood. Enticing cocktail menu!" - Michelin Inspector

Excellent value for money for the set menu (35€) which we had for lunch. Service was measured and attentive. Tempting cocktail choices but we stuck with water this time.

It’s hard, while on vacation, to commit one of your few nights to the cuisine of another country, instead of eating as much Spanish food as possible. This was more than worth the diversion. Every aspect truly does deserve five stars. The restaurant was decorated with true vision, every single item we ordered tasted genuinely phenomenal, and Diego our server was very nice and helpful, made us feel very welcome. I’d recommend the margarita tamarindo, the guacamole with pork belly, any of the tacos, and the flan was notably the best I’ve had by quite a bit. Also, if you can come on the first wednesday of the month for the mariachi band, they were great.

The sea bass was exceptional. Make sure you order it when you go… Service kind and attentive.

I am a Mexican food fanatic. This place was great. Great service, great decor, amazing food. We loved every single dish and the mocktails were delicious. We really enjoyed it and will come back again. 💯 recommend it.

I had one of my worst dining experiences ever at Barracuda in Madrid. We arrived a bit earlier than our reservation and asked if we could wait at the bar. Even though there were several empty tables, the staff insisted—very arrogantly—that we must stay at the bar. That tone carried throughout the entire evening. The bartender was condescending because we ordered soft drinks instead of alcohol, and the hostess was even worse: rude, dismissive, and completely uninterested in offering any basic hospitality. Communication was also difficult as none of the staff could speak proper English. As for the food, it was average at best—not terrible, but absolutely not at the level you expect from a place listed in the Michelin guide. But the most unacceptable part: we clearly informed them of a lactose intolerance, and they still served a dish containing lactose without saying anything. This is not just unprofessional; it’s dangerous. It put our health at risk. Given the attitude, the service, and the serious allergy oversight, this is a restaurant I cannot recommend to anyone. A very disappointing and frustrating experience.

The ambiance was nice, but the experience overall didn’t wow me. For starters, we had the guacamole, which was just okay. For mains, we ordered two tacos that were very plain and tried the wagyu taco, which was also just okay. The chicken enchiladas were good, and the cocktails were definitely a highlight – delicious! However, the place didn’t blow me away, and for the value, I don’t think I’d return.

The lunch menu provides a good sample of what the restaurant has to offer, except for the the main courses. The food was tasty, I enjoyed best the spicy ceviche. The best Mexican food still is found in Mexico, but this brought back memories of some great meals. They managed to serve me bottled water instead of tap which I mostly enjoy in Spain, not sure if I should deduce or add points for that win. A margarita would be nicer but, alas, a working day.

This was a superb culinary experience with a range of flavors evoking comfort, discovery and excitement among the array of dishes tasted. The drinks were amazing. The service was impeccable. The design of the restaurant was both playful and transporting. A definite must go!
