Already-Hurting D.C. Restaurants and Bars Need This Shutdown to Stop | Eater DC
"At this brand-new Logan Circle spot, furloughed workers get complimentary coffee Friday to Sunday (8 a.m. to 2 p.m.), and there’s a cheeky caffeinated cocktail, the Budget Blackout-Tini, for $8." - Tierney Plumb
An Award-Winning Irish Bar Descends on Dupont — And More Winter Pop-Ups | Eater DC
"The space being converted from a historic liquor-store footprint is phasing through seasonal pop-ups; for St. Patrick’s Day the Shamrock Shack is serving pistachio and rosemary–flavored shamrock shakes through March 20. Other themed drinks include a tropical, rum-based Luck of the Irish cocktail made with pineapple, strawberry, and a tropical Red Bull; a frozen Irish coffee made with cold brew and Jameson; and a hazelnut-flavored Irish cream espresso martini." - Emily Venezky
Barrel House Hosts Array of Pop-Ups Before Full September Opening | Eater DC
"Taking over a historic liquor store space at 1341 14th Street NW, the final form will honor the original shop that "survived everything from riots to political drama in the nation’s capital for almost 100 years," with pictures of the original liquor store (which moved next door in 2015) and boozy decor throughout the space. “We just thought it was such an iconic location, and we want to be kind of the next chapter of that space,” co-owner Biva Ranjeet told Eater. D.C.’s own Little Miner Taco will supply all the food in the new bar. For now the space will phase through a series of themed pop-ups: a holiday one called Tinsel and Tonic first appeared in December; the cozy, alpine-themed Lodge took over in January; Shamrock Shack will pop up in late February with Irish-themed cocktails and Irish whiskies; next will be cherry blossom–themed Sakura in March and the fairy garden–themed Pixie Hollow in mid-April. After those pop-ups, the plan is to close for a few months to renovate and then reopen in September with a final cocktail menu and decorations that will be more permanent." - Emily Venezky
Along 14th Street is an oasis with indoor and outdoor seating. Walk in and find an open table. Each one has a QR code to scan to order. It’s easy! The menu comes with wine, beer, cocktails, and more. The frozen pink drink was refreshing! There’s ice water in a dispenser inside for all to enjoy.

Me and my group were walking around trying to find an outdoor spot to hang and we happened across this place. I’m a local but never noticed this spot! The outside has really fun decorations and lots of spaces to sit. You order through the app. Our server was very interactive and had a chat with us. It was an overall fun experience!

My wife and I ordered two glasses of wine and the bar tender asked if we wanted to keep an tab open. We said yes. After around half an hour I ordered another drink and at the same time asked for the bill. He acknowledged. Another half an hour had passed and we still hadn’t received the bill. I asked again and he said he had closed us out and automatically put a tip on the amount because we had effectively done a runner. We were sitting 6 feet from the bar the whole time in full view of all the staff.
We were patiently waiting for the bill.
He said the establishment had a policy of adding a tip if someone did leave without paying. Trouble was, we hadn’t left. We were waiting for him to do his job. I don’t know what the deal is, but we left feeling that we had been turned over and doubt we will go back. Shame really because it is a nice venue.

While the outdoor space is great and the drinks are serviceable, this place clearly has a management problem. The communication from the staff is poor and it seems like the bartenders are usually bickering and lost. While the staff there could do better, I think the root of the bar’s issues go higher.

If you’re cool with paying $20 for a drink that’s half empty, this is your spot. The service was a joke — we waited forever, had to hunt down the waitress to ask where our order was, and when it finally came, the drinks were literally half full. The fries looked old and just reheated. Total scam vibes.

Every time I come here I have an excellent experience. Personable bartenders, really good bites, the cocktails are interesting and have always been fun. I'm always eager to see what they'll do next - as I've come to many of their pop up iterations and some of the events they've hosted and it always blows me away. Would recommend!

The space is cute, happy hour is limited and at the bottom of the menu if you keep scrolling. There were kids running wild all over the space - climbing on the fences, throwing rocks and mulch. We complained a couple times after getting hit with a rock and a stick but nothing changed.

Beautiful place with really chill and inviting staff. The staff was soooo accommodating. The loaded fries were honestly so bomb with cute tasty drinks (I ordered a espresso martini). Make sure to stop by for the sakura pop up with beautiful decor for a ladies brunch!!!

Yelp
Barrel House Cafe & Bar has had a couple of pop-ups and we made it here for the St. Paddy's one, Shamrock Shack. It was so fun and chill, despite being popular. We had great service. I had two Irish Cream Espresso martinis, which were delicious. The decor was perfect. And they had a DJ spinning, so that was great. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do next.
