The Best New Restaurants in San Antonio

"This San Diego food truck became a physical restaurant in Southtown in March, but its flavors are all over the map. The casual joint riffs off Chicago-style hot dogs with a Tijuana-esque glizzie with jalapeños and a hoisin-topped frank with a pickled salad. The decor pays tribute to Lowrider culture with framed hot rod photos and flash art, reflected in Mexican American sides like elotitos and calabacitas. Takeout orders can be placed in person; there are DoorDash deliveries and pickups; there are indoor and outdoor dine-in services." - Brandon Watson

I’m an Uber driver and was dropping a passenger off to work and she was talking about her job and what an amazing place it is and how good the food is. So it was lunchtime and I dropped her off and parked and came inside to try it. This place is literally one of a kind. The interior is so original and well done! The staff cannot be kinder and more helpful in providing the absolute best experience! The food was incredible and just the whole entire experience was great! I highly recommend and look forward to coming back!! Thank you for creating such an awesome place in San Antonio to come and eat and feel at home!! Well done!! 🙌

Stopped in today, I gotta say.... what's not to like?! Seriously such a unique menu and really cool place. The staff is very welcoming and so friendly. Being that this was our first visit, they took the time to familiarize us with their menu selections. The food is amazing. Who knew you could reinvent the hot dog? Everything was so tasty and plentiful. Their selection of unique drinks including cold beer is great as well. The decor and vibe is full on Latino and low rider culture. It's a very and welcoming atmosphere. So grateful this place opened here. Will definitely be back again and again.

Google
Decent dogs but they didn't taste like all beef. Applewood bacon isn't worth the upcharge as it didn't have much flavor. The fries were overpriced in my opinion. The location is very nice inside. Clean restrooms. Paid parking across the street is a nice perk. Service is also great. The portions here are huge but the food just didn't Slap like other places. Lastly, this place needs a full bar! It's setup perfectly for one but they just need liquor on the wall.

We finally decided to stop by Barrio Dogg after walking by countless times, and I'm so glad we did! From the moment we walked in, the gentleman at the register made us feel welcome and truly valued. His recommendations were spot on, and every bite was delicious! The service was exceptional; our waitress was incredibly kind and attentive. We loved sitting outside, soaking up the sun while enjoying our refreshing Mexican cokes. It created the perfect atmosphere for a relaxed date night. We're already looking forward to our next visit! If you haven't tried Barrio Dogg yet, do yourself a favor and go! You won’t regret it!

Ordered the El Capone (Chicago dog). It was a good hot dog. It's more on the savory side. The relish wasn't sweet. It did have way too much seasoning to my liking. It was too salty. The fries were not my favorite. They were battered, and I'm not a big fan. The restaurant was really cool. I liked all the pictures of the lowriders and the murals. I wasn't a fan of their seats. They were bar seats and not very comfortable. The staff was top-notch, very friendly and helpful.

Google
Best hotdog place out there! Chill vibes, feels at home and everyone is super kind. Been wanting to try this place out and so glad I did, best food with amazing flavor! Place is super clean too, the bathroom is unisex and SO CLEAN. Felt comfortable!

Went in on a Saturday afternoon/evening. Was not too busy. Service was great. The girl working the counter was welcoming and went over everything with us as it was my first time. Ordered the seasonal dog El Chihuahua chili Verde dog and the Virgen fries and my mom ordered the La Virgen dog and Elotitos on the side. They give you an option to bacon wrap the dog, we did not but I might next time. They even have a Veggie dog option on the menu. The food was great, full of flavor. I expected to be stuffed after but it didn't over fill me nor was I still hungry after. The atmosphere was Lowrider scene, which I have not seen in forever and was i loving it. There is a bar too if you are wanting a drink with your dog. I highly recommend this place.

Just went this evening for the first time after my husband saw this location on TikTok. I went blindly not seeing the menu before hand. The menu is simple and the staff was amazing to make suggestions and not make you feel rushed! They went over the menu and what the hot dogs came with. Then even had a kids meal which was a plus! Our 8 year old enjoyed the food so much! The staff was extremely friendly and made you feel so welcomed! We didn’t park in the rear which we know we can now! We parked at the paid parking lot across the street. The art work all around was awesome and the set up was very nice. The food was GREAT! We will definitely be going again!

Yelp
Looking for a badass hotdog with good drinks that you AND get for fair pricing this is the place! The service was great first time here and they immediately walked us through what type of restaurant they were even recommending some drinks and food. Most of all their style just gives San Antonio a fresh look all together I highly recommend a night out here!

Yelp
My boyfriend's uncle used to own this building years ago and had a shop here where he worked on electric motors. We were browsing a map of the area one evening and saw this place! We made plans to try it soon after and brought his Dad and sister along too. It was so neat to hear them talk about what it used to look like back in the day! Now it's a really cool, lively hotdog place. And these aren't just any hotdogs. They are so innovative and yummy! Everything we had was delicious and the service was top tier. The interior is vibrantly decorated with eye catching art and low rider tributes. Such a neat place!! We will be returning!

Yelp
We were in the area for a conference and stopped in. The art is super cool. The staff was so friendly! The lady at the order counter explained the menu and gave us an idea of the spicier options vs the tamer fare for us spuce wimps (it's me... I am a spice wimp) I had the El Capone hot dog (I went with the bacon wrap, do it. It is worth the extra) and plain fries. Oh my goodness!!! It was the best hot dog I have had in a long time. The relish is tasty and not too sweet. The tomato was fresh and sliced thin. I was amazed at how good their mustard is! The pickle was also not too much dill and great amount of crunch. My husband went with the El Gallo dog. He is still raving about how good it was. Once he picked it up, it was GONE. Definitely will be back if we're ever in the area again.

Yelp
Went out on a limb and did something different. Service 5 stars, food 5 stars and ambiance, another 5 stars. I had the El Samurai, no regrets. I highly recommend this place to everyone. There is some street parking, not sure what it's like later in the night. I'll definitely be back. Cheers to the staff

Yelp
El Xolito 9/10 Calabacita 9/10 The angus beef hot dog is amazing. The bun holds up very well and very soft. El Xolito was very flavorful with all the toppings but that did not take away from the bun and dog. I've never had the calabacita made the way it was. Very tasty, so far one of my favorite ways to eat zucchini. The atmosphere inside is awesome. The low rider car mounted to the wall is awesome. Only downfall is the parking. Only 2 or 3 spots on road and 5 in the rear parking lot. I will be going back multiple times for the other hot dogs in their menu

Yelp
Visiting Texas from Miami found this little gem that sold Chicago style Hot Dogs and it did not disappoint the ambiance was phenomenal the whole place was a whole vibe from the graffiti on the walls to the decorations to the hip-hop music playlist definitely a great place to go , the service was excellent. We were treated phenomenally. Constantly checking on us to make sure we're OK. The food was really tasty really good. Very authentic.!! Beautiful artwork graffiti. The staff was great definitely an A+.! a must visit if you live in San Antonio or visiting.

Yelp
If you love hot dogs, Texas-Mex and low riders, you gotta come to Barrio Dogg or you are missing out big-time! Delicious and creative hot dogs, special fries and sides, plus micheladas and other "signature" drinks all served with fast friendly service. Not only is this all in a low rider motif including the front end of a '58 Chevy Impala and running videos of low riders on 3 screens, but they also host low rider shows 1st Fridays and 2nd Saturdays each month. You cant miss this place!

Yelp
Barrio Dogg offers an enticing experience with its unique and crafty hotdogs that pay homage to the rich and diverse barrios across the United States. From San Antonio to Los Angeles, Chicago to New York, each hotdog is a flavorful tribute to these vibrant communities. Their Micheladas are a must-try, promising to quench your thirst in a way reminiscent of drinking water from a garden hose on a hot summer day in 1985. The refreshing and bold flavors make them the perfect complement to the hearty and inventive hotdogs. If you're seeking a culinary journey through America's barrios, Barrio Dogg is your destination.

Yelp
I've been dying to try this place since I saw it on TikTok. The location is south town off Presa behind Gus' World Famous Fried Chicken. You can park on the street and I think there's a tiny area behind the building for parking. It's a small building with seating along the wall and open windows or you can sit at the bar or regular table seating. You walk up and order at the front and the girl was very knowledgeable about the hot dogs and products they use in their food. We love a cashier that knows her products it was easy to order and I was able to sit anywhere available. They play the music loud enough to drown out everyone else conversations but not yours. Lots of freestyle mixed from the 90's, love it. The service was wonderful. Someone kept coming by to check if I was doing okay, brought me a new refill and took my tray when I was done. I wanna say the owner came up and took my tray, asked if everything was good and just such a humble person. Love when owners or managers are down to earth and sincere. Let's get into the food. I ordered the Capone which is a Chicago dog, my favorite. I didn't think 1 hot dog would be enough but it was STUFFED. There was plenty of tomato, onion relish and I added bacon wrap so they used 2 slices of bacon. The hotdog itself was not scrawny either (don't you hate when that happens ) I also got the elote which freaked me out a bit because it has this fluffy foam on top like a root beer float. It was sprinkled with tajin and a lime slice on the side. I think the fluff was butter and when I mixed it with the corn, OMG wonderful, just wonderful! I ate all of it and I was full. Also, the lid on the tea was VERY secure, which is good for taking the cup to go. I cannot wait to go back and try other things.

Yelp
Damn son... this is a hot dog to write home about! My fiancé and I both tried the xolito dog, and it's one of the best fusion hot dogs I've ever eaten. Really good quality hot dog with great taste, and all the toppings were so fresh. The fries had a great seasoning and the elote so good. Super sweet corn with a solid tang. When we walked in we were immediately greeted by several staff and they were so friendly. The inside of the building has some awesome art and their origin story is a cool one. We will definitely be back. Usually I would want to try more, but that hot dog was so good I don't know if I'll ever be able to turn it down.
google avatar

Pete S.

Yelp
These are bada$$ hotdogs, the street corn was amazing very cool atmosphere with the low riders. Good service nothing bad to say about this place. Also drinks were really good. Definitely try this place if you're in San Antonio don't be afraid to get off the river walk.

Yelp
I was walking my dog with a few friends and passed by Barrio a bit ago and have been meaning to stop by. We finally got the chance today and I was happy we did. The people who took our order were super sweet andnhappy to answer our questions. We got a couple hot dogs and michies. Both hot dogs were great El xolito and El capone, the buns were fluffy and soft and the toppings on each blended well together. They have 4 Micheladas flavors we got the La sangrona and la tomasa. The inside was pretty plane with some wall decor but overall a great experience.

Maggie G.

Yelp
My husband and I went to Barrio Dogg after finding it on Tik Tok (your marketing is working ) We sat at the bar and I had one of the best drinks I've ever had, it was so refreshing. Then we had our own hot dogs and sides. Great meal, atmosphere and service. We will be back!!!

Angelica D.

Yelp
Came in from Houston to try this place and glad we got shut down. Parking sucks and the staff didn't seem to care about first time customers only about "First Friday" That being said... We moved on down the street to El Chunky and had a much better experience ! We were greeted with great customer service, food topping and flavors were beyond expectations. Overall great vibes !!

Yelp
First time eating here. Great tasting dogs. I had Eo Capone which is their version of a Chicago Style side of fries and a Big Red, It was delicious! My brother had their best seller El Xolito their version of a Tijuana Style and a side of Elotitos he also gave it thumbs up. The service was great they know the menu and ingredients for each option by heart. Very nice servers. The downside is the price a little high total for our order was $43 plus tip. Dinning room is open and clean the decor is great a mix of street art and photos with the front end of a Lowrider Impala behind the bar. Nice addition to the Southtown area. We will definitely be back.

Aracelly G.

Yelp
The staff is amazing, we drove by and so glad we did.. the food is off the top. The ambiance is great, music really sets the mood and you can't help to get off your chair to dance! The decor is original & top notch!

Yelp
Who knew a hotdog could be so elevated! Stopped for a quick bite and were so pleased with our choice! The vibe and decor of this place is unique and inviting (or "AWESOME" as my teenage son put it). We ordered the house special and the Al Capone and were not disappointed. So juicy and full of flavor. The service was great... felt like I came to my uncle's house for a quick bite. 10/10 recommend.

Yelp
Absolutely the best place for a great filling hot dog!! Great drinks, food & service. The only thing missing off the menu is crispy dogs. The restaurant has old school music, vibrant colors & art.

chris R.

Yelp
What a find when visiting San Antonio this weekend! The place was clean, and the service was great. If you want a different take on hot dogs, this is the place!
google avatar

Patrick O.

Yelp
Great new spot for Southtown. The dogs were great and the service was special! Thank you guys! Great experience.
google avatar

Yelp
Food and service were awesome! The hotdogs are not your ordinary dogs and so flavorful full of yumminess. The servers are so sweet and very attentive. Can't wait to return and try the other items.

Frank S.

Yelp
Came all the way to Southtown, just for them to be out of hot dog buns at 8pm on a Friday.
google avatar

James C.

Yelp
Food is okay fries lack crispiness a little pricy but also bad drink menu. Don't know why a place with full liquor license would have such a limited bar menu? Such a bad move by owners to have that policy!! !! Get a margarita machine !!

Billy B.

Yelp
This place was delicious. The hotdogs were amazing. The elotes was the best I ever had, and I have had a lot of elotes . I have never had fideo before, but it was very tasty too. The Michilada was also very good. And I loved the Lowrider theme. I highly recommend this place if you want good food in San Antonio.

Annette S.

Yelp
This place is unique with a great vibe on any given day. The owner and staff are always attentive welcoming you as you walk in. The hot dogs at Barrio Dogg are unlike any other, tasty and delicious not to mention well worth the price. Will definitely be returning.

Colleen B.

Yelp
The food was excellent. I am not much of a hot dog person but it was so delicious, I had the El Gallo - breakfast all day- it had a grilled cheese bun filled with onions& topped with a fluffy omelette, cheddar cheese, sour cream, salsa verde, salsa Roma, corona cheese & fresh cilantro. Yum , it had a little kick to it. The service was very good. Talked with the Owner for a few minutes, that was nice. It is open air, music was good.

Yelp
This is such a dope spot. The vibe is def puro San Antonio in all the best ways. The staff are incredibly friendly and you can tell they are really proud of this spot, as they should be! The dogs are incredibly tasty, creative & super fun. The sides are great as well. I am 1000000% a regular for life.

Rebecca C.

Yelp
Great vibe, friendly staff. Hot dogs with fresh baked bread were so good. Got Fries and calabasitas for sides and they were yum yum yum. Bonus was the old school music.
google avatar

Alicia G.

Yelp
Barrio Dog is a whole vibe. 90s music, 90's Chicano wall art, coupled with delicious gourmet hot dogs and interesting drinks. It was an interesting juxtaposition for the senses; listening to music that made me nostalgic for the 90s while enjoying the textures and flavors of a gourmet hot dog that was grounding me in 2024. I had the samurai hot dog and I really enjoyed the crunchy jicama, fresh jalapeño and cilantro with the sweet and tangy hoisin sauce. Excellent combo. A must try. I had a tóxica to drink and it was enjoyable but not the star of the meal. Overall, I really enjoyed it. It was a bit more pricey than I expected but I'll still be back to try the other hot dogs.

Jason N.

Yelp
From Chicago and I have to say... these were the best dogs I've ever had. Plus, you can get one of the best micheladas in town! You have to try this place out.

Julia S.

Yelp
The El Capone w/bacon was amazing. The mamas Mac was fresh. Aqua del dia Jamaica was perfect. Service and ambience was great.

Gary W.

Yelp
Wow! Found this place walking back toward the Riverwalk! The hotdogs were awesome and the service was great!
google avatar

Wilder S.

Yelp
I found Barrio Dogg by accident, but I am happy I did. The staff is very courteous and helpful in understanding their menu. The restaurant has some seating space, I'm sure this will be amplified as the restaurant grows. To the food: the hot dog I had was very flavourful with a slight kick of heat, and it was wrapped in bacon, nothing wrong with that. The fries were seasoned well, although it can seem salty to some. The Margarita had a cucumber flavor that I truly enjoyed. I will be back and bring my wife so we can try the El Capone, Chicago-style hot dog. I can't wait.

Lilly L.

Yelp
Cool atmosphere & drinks!! Hot dogs were delicious but wish there were just a few more options for styles :) Service was amazing, will be back!!

Esmeralda G.

Yelp
Awesome vibes.. the food was bomb.. I had El Capone and macaroni salad, fries yum! Cali vibes for sure.. recommend 100% great staff Chicano culture

Jenna H.

Yelp
Delicious! Went here last minute during lunch as we were craving hot dogs. This place was recommended to us and we were so happy it was! I got their special, the vaquero dog, that was similar to a chili dog. It came out super quick and the people working were super friendly and helped us figure out what to order. The only con was it was a bit pricy; $12 for just my hotdog. It was worth it thouWe ended up eating in silence, as they were so good we didn't want to stop to get a word in. Definitely satisfied our cravings, we'll be back!

Nashaly C.

Yelp
This place seriously hit the spot. We've been on the hunt for Colombian style hot dogs and even though these are not that, my partner was over the moon on how close we got with these. He got the El Xolito and it was absolutely delicious. I got the El Gallo and oh gosh did that hit the spot. I'm a sucker for breakfast food, so when I saw that it had an omelette on top, I was sold. The omelette was cooked to perfection, thin and not overcooked, the toppings complimented each other. It was delicious. The Virgen fries were so well seasoned! I decided to try La Rosita for my drink, I was scared because I'm not a grapefruit fan, but it was so refreshing and well balanced. One of the best cocktails I've ever had, highly recommend. The service was amazing! Everyone is very kind and welcoming, it was so refreshing. The restaurant itself has really cool art and whoever was in charge of decorating/designing knocked it out of the park. It's absolutely beautiful. Absolute wonderful experience and we will be back!

Cesar C.

Yelp
Really good hotdogs, drinks, and owner. Open atmosphere with lots of good feeling. A place worth checking out.

Evie R.

Yelp
amazing food, drinks, atmosphere and service!!!! y'all come out and support! oh and good music!
