Great place for Tuesday night trivia! Food is standard pub fare but all in all good. Drinks could be either a little stronger or a little larger for the price. Recommend the chicken fajita wrap and the pulled pork!

I’m all for over priced NYC drinks, but can I at least get some value for these expensive drinks? Can I get some creativity, some love and care? When I approached this place, I’m told a drink is $5, so I ask for a double, which should be a few more dollars, but instead it’s all of sudden $12 for this tiny little drink. No creativity, or anything special. Literally felt like I wasn’t even welcomed. The place was dead and felt like a dive bar, yet they want to charge $12 for a tiny drink? Yeah, don’t ever waste your time at this horrible bar. They should’ve just stayed closed during the pandemic if this is what they were gonna give to the world. I’ve been in restaurants all day and not one person has asked about the vaccination. This place is completely empty and the first thing this guy asks me is for a vaccine card, probably hoping I didn’t have one so that he could kick me out. Such a horrible establishment.

Started coming here because of Tuesday trivia night. Trivia host is so much fun! And the food is good. Bartenders are kind and service is fast.

Ordered dinners through seamless (we’ve ordered here before) and they just didn’t send one of the meals. Huh? Ohhh you saw it on the ticket, and your sorry it didn’t get sent? Isn’t your one job and reason for existence serving food and drinks? What part of getting orders right don’t you get? You had one job and you failed.

This is an old school haunt for me. I was happy to see, returning 10 years later, that not much has changed. The bar is still well maintained, but the charm from the early 2000s 8s still there. The only significant change that I saw was that pool table area in the basement is now a stage. Still, it was nice place to hang out for a little while on a Saturday afternoon and talk to the friendly bartender.

Local here. This is a great spot to grab a quick bite to eat and drink. Prices are great for the area. Keep your expectations in line for a bar like this and you will leave happy, and likely meet some nice people.

The BEST bar in the village! I’m a local and am here multiple times a week. The staff are incredibly personable & warm, there’s always a vast & delicious variety of beers on tap, and the fries are the absolute best. The owner is one of my favorite people in the world, and he always goes out of his way to make you feel remembered and special. The customer service is truly top notch, and the outstanding drinks & bar food make the experience even more amazing. I could not recommend this bar more, and hope they continue to thrive!

By far the best dive bar in the west village! The staff are unbelievably friendly and always welcoming. The owner clearly cares a lot about this establishment and it shows in how he treats his customers. There is always a rotating selection of (great) beers! Very underpriced for this area of Manhattan. Not only that but the fries have become my favorite. Sports guy/girl? Say no more. There are dozens of TVs constantly playing current sporting events and the owner is always happy to change the channel to what you want to watch! Don’t miss this sleeper! It’s a gem

Barrow Street Ale House is pretty bare bones. I'm not much of an alcohol drinker, and they don't have mocktail or juice options. The menu is rather typical bar food; the Philly cheesesteak and chicken tenders are decent, while the pulled pork is not good. Last time, I tried the Chicken Club hero with grilled veggies, but the veggies had too much black pepper and were inedible. Should've stuck with the fries. They also have trivia night 8 pm on Tuesdays. It starts later than expected, though maybe it's because they're waiting for more teams to join in (usually there are only 5-7 teams playing) and progresses slowly. Unlike other NYC trivia league spots I've been to, this place does not do a music round nor a list round, and their picture round never has a theme and is just an assortment of random celebrity figures. The top placing team gets a $30 gift card and second place team gets $20, which is arguably generous given the small number of contestants. The servers here are sweet, but we often need to ask for water refill, and the food takes a while (20-30 min) to come out.

The food is awful. We had an appetizer sampler and everything looked and tasted the same--greasy, deep-fried, and tasteless. The potato skins were the same. The place also has an eerily quiet vibe. It was a Monday night, but still, it felt "closed." Not fun.

Literally the only redeeming part was the quality of the jazz musicians downstairs. I was standing outside and there was a bouncer for both the Ale House and Cafe Bohemia, so I asked him if he was the bouncer for the jazz show, and he mocked me and threw my ID back at me. A girl came out right after me saying she was just waiting for her friend outside and he mocked her too, rolled his eyes and threw his hands up in the air at us. I get that the job is annoying sometimes, but get a grip dude. Downstairs, the waitress was also annoyed, I got one drink and didn't see her again for two hours. Left $40 on the table and got the hell out of there.

Looking for an uncrowded spot for a couple of drinks and some pub food. After some time, was able to find this place that had available seating at the bar. Scannable menu only shows the drink options, so have to ask the bartender for the physical food menu. Decided to split the Veggie Chili Nachos ($16) - basic chips, cheese, sour cream, guac, and a large helping of vegetarian chili. Chili itself is good, chunky and full of flavor without being greasy. For some reason the guacamole and sour cream are in to-go containers. Had to scoop it out and try to get it on as many chips as possible. The chips themselves are very basic, not very thick and doesn't hold the chili very well. For drinks - there is a decent selection of craft beer around $5-9 depending on what you get. Bartender doles out the drinks pretty quickly and the place isn't too loud despite being a sports bar. Disappointed in the food here so would only get drinks next time around.

Dive bar with live music in the basement (right hand side is the ladies' bathroom and head down the stairs to the basement). Great live music, drinks and bars are the same as any dive places.

Please know that those under 21 are not allowed in. The woman who helped us (who also told us she wants to "quit everyday") said "it's a bar that serves food, not a restaurant". Totally fine, but I wish they posted that on the website OR someone had told us when we made our reservation so we weren't out of luck on a busy afternoon looking for somewhere else to eat.

Fun bar that is a great place to go watch a game. There are lots of TVs and the seating set up makes it easy to feel like you have your own space while still part of the crowd. There is a large selection of beer and spirits. The food is typical pub grub, but the only culinary standout to be is their buffalo sauce which goes well with wings, tots, on the nachos, or fries.

Hello west village. Let's just set it straight. I've been to barrow street ale house more than two hands amount of times in my life. Love it. Flock to it. I'm not one of those people that only go there after being denied from the Spaniard. Great food, great drinks. Fun people. Today, the waitress was one of the rudest people I've ever met. After the BOUNCER told us to get our drinks from the bar and bring it to the table, she took this out on us. After the BARTENDER brought us a pitcher of water, 20 minutes after waiting for service she came to us and told Us we weren't allowed to have a pitcher of water. WATERRRRR!!! The icing on the cake? She called us BITCHES to the table next door. "Did you bring those bitches a pitcher of water?" Talked to the manger about the issue and got an apology and nothing comped. Very dissatisfied.

We stopped by for a couple drinks and sat outside. I had a draft Allagash White while my fiancée had a cocktail. They have TVs on the exterior of their building to watch while outdoor dining. We had an order of mozzarella sticks with our drinks. Staff was attentive.

We stopped here on a foodie walking tour of the West Village. We were given a Ruben sandwich to try. For some odd reason it took like 20 minutes for the sandwiches to come out even though the bar / restaurant was pretty empty. The fries were really good (they were super crispy and they came with a sauce to dip in) and the sandwich was good too, but I would have liked it more if it had Swiss cheese on it, as a traditional Ruben does.

I normally discount the validity of reviews that are extreme negative, but imagine ordering $15 "chicken wings" and receiving this

I've been to Barrow a couple of times and my overall consensus is good bar for sports watching/chilling, meh for food. The bar itself has plenty of TVs all around and a good number of booths for groups to drink and eat. It's well lit and service is pretty attentive. As for the food, I was very disappointed with what I got. I know it's supposed to be bar food but the portions and quality was just below average compared to other sports bars. My friends and I started with the nachos ultima and let's say those nachos were not ultima. They were barely standard nachos. For a name including the word ultima, I would expect it to be humongous. It was just meh. The saving grace was the pork that it came with. The pork was amazing, super tender and flavorful. I also got the alehouse burger. It was a standard burger with lettuce and tomatoes but I found the meat to be overly greasy. I also asked for it to be medium but it was extremely well done. I substituted fries for tater tots for $2 extra. Tater Tots are my most favorite fried potato so I will always get it when I can. I kind of wish I did NOT get it here. It was way too fried. There was more oil than potato I felt. I can feel my arteries starting to clog the more I ate. What a pity. Overall, I will still give this place three stars because it is still an adequate sports bar. My friends got other sandwiches and wings and they thoroughly enjoyed their meal. I would be willing to go back and try other things, just not what I already got.

Waitress called us bitches for having a pitcher of water on the table. First time in my life I have complained to a manager. DO NOT GIVE THIS PLACE BUSINESS. Please read full story below, I am still in disbelief. I have never written a Yelp review nor complained to a manager in my life, until my experience at this place. Would 0/10 recommend sitting down here. We had a waitress who was so unbelievably rude. The bouncer AND bartender told us all of the tables were seat yourself & order at the bar, yet she gave us a HUGE attitude about it. We were trying to be kind, mend the situation, & order more drinks & food, but it was the most awkward experience of my life. She was angry the entire time we were placing the order, we had no idea how to react. After the bartender brought out a pitcher of water & 4 cups, she swung by the table & yelled at us for having it, saying it was against the rules at this establishment to have a pitcher of water on the table. So she reached across the table & took away the pitcher. When I went inside to get a refill of my water, she stopped me and told me that she can handle my request outside & told me to leave. If you thought it ended there, you are very wrong. 10 feet away from the table, she walks over to the bouncer & says "did you give these bitches a pitcher of water??" while pointing to our table. The first time I have ever been called a bitch for having a pitcher of water - also mind you, this was the first bar of the day, so we were dead sober & completely polite, as anyone should be while dining at a restaurant. The manager happened to come to our table to check in on us and me, the least confrontational human being, told him the entire situation & asked for our check, and all he did was "read her the riot act" inside. Nothing comped & barely an apology. She is out for blood. Potentially dangerous. You'll have better luck waiting at Spaniard for 2 hours while being waterboarded. Literally go anywhere else. Also the food sucked - look at the pictures on Yelp for reference.

I've never been anywhere that's had worse service. Drinks took 15-20 minutes. Half the times we ordered drinks the server forgot to put our order in and we had to reorder. Food was very mediocre. Not terrible but not great. We got no napkins or silverware even though we asked multiple times. Bathroom had no soap. Overall terrible place. Given the location there are tons of better places within 5 minutes.

Just an honest warning and a lesson in up selling. The friendly bartender advised "they ran out of fries" but forgot the part about my replacing them with tots or onion rings was a $2 up charge. That meant my $80 bill for four, included $8 extra plus a credit card fee or 25% of the total. I didn't complain, simply ate it as if I was a tourist. Sad

Loud, dark, and smelled like a frat house. Drinks were cheap during happy hour. This place is a little tricky to find if you don't know exactly where it is. Good for watching sports and being entertained by ChiveTV. Pretty average dive bar.

This past Saturday, I stopped by Barrow Street Ale house on my lunch break to grab some food to go. I was recommended this restaurant/bar from this app that I use called seated. After I left, and got to work, I had 10 minutes left to eat, and when I opened one of my items, I realized there was stuff missing. I ordered the "basket of wings" which (Accoring to the menu), should've come with the 10 wings but also, carrots, celery, and blue cheese dressing. It was only the wings, nothing else. I tipped when I paid and everything even though it was a to-go meal. The store was empty at the time of day I went too (1:00pm), so I can't see how this sort of mistake would happen. Since I only had 10 minutes left in my lunch break to eat when I got back to my job, I couldn't go back to the store to bring up the issue.

The doorman was extremely rude and offensive to our group from the time we entered after the Pride parade. Do not waste your time, energy or money here!

Terrible! Third time here in the last few years and I should have known since we were the only customers on a Sunday afternoon when the rest of the restaurants in the area were packed. My drink was good, but the food was AWFUL! Not the mention the 6 inch cockroach that walked across the floor next to our table. They can check the cameras for proof. Ordered the B.A.L.T. (Bacon/avocado/lettuce/tomato on a sour bread roll-listed on menu in restaurant, but not online) and when our bar sandwiches arrived 45 minutes later -appetizers and meals at the same time- my sandwich contained what seemed like left over crushed bacon, no avocado and on toast. We went to the server and manager and they seemed annoyed and said they were out of avocado and wouldn't charge for the avocado. (If I had known I would have orders something different.) I sent it back. That annoyed them even more and they became a bit argumentative. I know Covid has changed some of the quality at restaurants but this was beyond and the service was awful. As a former waitress if it wasn't her first day, it should be her last. Also, please do a deep clean..it's much needed. Lastly, they try to include the sales tax and credit card upcharge on the suggested tip amount.

What do you do on a Tuesday night when you are already drunk and it's almost midnight and you and your buddy are on the way to the train to head to your respective homes? Notice a bar you've never noticed before advertising $3.50 pick-a-pints. And realize, shoot, I actually don't really want to go home, also I had a left-over end of the year vacation day the next day and decided why the heck not! The bar first off is along a street with little cobbled and historical brick houses in the west village. It's not just a bar. It's HISTORIC. Built in 1897 by a Mr. Schaper of sorts. He was a trucker. And apparently the building was used as an old carriage house, became a Latin restaurant, and then turned into a jazz club that hosted Miles Davis way back in the day. So of course I wanted to stay around a little longer and that is your little history lesson of the day. The beer menu here is pretty awesome. For $3.50 you can get Smuttynose, MadElf, Bronx Ale, Arrogant Bastard, Flying Dog, Lagunitas, SixPoint. Just to name a few. I don't even remember what I had because I was in THAT kind of state. This is a true gem of a bar though. Why? Because it was EMPTY. But it was also late on a weeknight. BUT, they have some kind of deal every single day as well. Not just Tuesdays! Happy hour every day is until 7pm for $3.50 drafts on everything. Most days all day long there is a deal on either Yuengling or Miller or Bud. Food I did not try but they have 40 cent wings on Mondays and traditional bar food that is not too over-priced.

Wouldn't allow my medical service dog in and were real assholes about it. Clearly they don't know New York State laws OR care about patrons of their establishment. Manager was unapologetic and nasty. Was happy to bring my business elsewhere.

Excellent place to stop for a beer while near the Barrow Street Theatre. Good selection, excellent service.

I would have said this was a medium, meh bar, but they have an amazing happy hour (on the weekends too!!) that bumps it up to great! $4 drafts that are usually $6-8 bucks. Woo hoo! The food is average bar fare - fried food that probably came from a frozen bag. But the service is friendly and the booths are comfy. Great place to watch sports, too.

If you like a bro-y bar, this place is fine. Not too crowded and drinks were cheap enough. Weird rule that you need to have $15 minimum to use a credit card and they only allow two cards per table. Waitresses weren't super attentive, but nice enough. Definitely pushy when they wanted their tables to turn over. Three stars just for having an awesome juke box.

I ordered the boneless wings from here and wow. A lot has gotten me down during this covid-19 quarantine, but these "wings" are a new low. What arrived was essentially Tyson chicken nuggets tossed in franks red - for $13. I have seen rats in the subway eat more appetizing meals. How this quality of food comes from the kitchen of an establishment that has been open for 30 years is baffling. I did not eat them, but I can only surmise that the taste matches the visual appeal. Please, if you are looking for boneless wings in New York City, go literally anywhere else.

Very very annoying experience... The doorman was very rude and seemed to be aggressive and unfriendly. Food was subpar and drinks were overpriced. Definitely will not go back here anytime soon. Not sure why the doorman was so angry but it was an unfortunate time and I wish we had gone somewhere else. However our waitress was nice and very friendly and the atomosphere of the place was good.

Vivian, our waitress on a Saturday afternoon, was bubbly and accommodating. I'm updating my review because of her. She was attentive and great at helping me find a beer; I ended up trying and ordering a beer I would never have tried - a triple IPA! - if it hadn't been for her determination. (And a shoutout to the bartender, too!) In terms of food, the tater tots are the best deal; they come in a huge bucket, and they are enough to share. The quesadilla, though, was pretty small for the price ($10+) and quite underwhelming. There's a pool table in the basement, but their cue ball was recently stolen. One of the tiniest women's bathrooms I've seen in a while, though they manage to squeeze in two stalls.

GREAT SPOT for super cheap drinks on a Sunday afternoon. Vodka sodas were $5 and all their TVs were playing the Olympics, what else could I need? Service is also fantastic, the bartender really knew how to hook us up.

Kinda smelly, expensive, odd atmosphere, generic food (it's good but you can go a million other places for the same quality), and staff was not kind. This is my second experience there.

It's a lovely, cosy bar, clean, traditional. Pleasant ambience, convivial, mixed crowd. The food looks good, the drinks well kept and reasonably priced. So why the one star? I was there last night (nov 20, 2019) on a date, 6:30pm. The bar was busy but not packed. We sat at the a bar and had to wait quite a while for the bar guy to come over as he was busy arguing with someone at the other end. Eventually he comes over, we order two drinks, a draft beer, a glass of wine. I ask if he takes cards, "yes. can't you pay cash?" I had no cash, my partner did but it was my round so I said I'd rather pay with card. It's a "$14 buck minimum". One round at $11, so no problem, we'll be having a few. He pulls a face and walks away chewing my card, literally like a dog! It was so outrageous I just laughed. Turns out he was finishing his shift and I guess felt done out of his $2 tip. I've had a few situations like this. Usually a server will politely say, hey, I'm finishing my shift, would you mind closing out? No problems at all, totally understand, happy to comply. With a minimum I would simply just pay for the next round. So our man (in his late 50s, glasses) is handing over to the next server. Chuckles proceeds to point along the bar and in a voice loud enough to hear, goes down the line of people pointing, "nice, nice, A@#(@$#, nice" gets to us, "a#$h##les". I couldn't believe it. We had only said a few words (politely at that). I'm so glad my date hadn't heard it, she had a hard day and just wanted to have a break and a few drinks before watching the (excellent) show downstairs. It almost ruined my night it made me so upset. I get that bar staff can have bad days, and deal with rude people etc, but this was just horrible, hence the one star. The new server was great. Efficient, professionally polite.

I came with a friend to have a much needed nightcap. It looked pretty mysterious and intriguing from the outside and feeling as if I had been to almost every bar in the West Village but this one...so we had to pop in. It was $3.50 "Pick a pint" night! But I'm also pretty confident that pints here are pretty much ALWAYS $3.50, only you can't choose which beer every night...only Tuesdays :). Still, this Barrow Street Ale House easily the most inexpensive bar in the West Village that doesn't force you to interact with college students. No offense college students, but I'm well past that phase of my life and only want to hang with adults. You'll feel the same way one day...until then enjoy your Budweisers and Natty Lights, lol. Our bartender was friendly and this place sells food. We didn't eat here but their mac & cheese menu write-up sounded tantalizing. I like their Irish pub feel, dim lighting, unassuming wooden decor/furniture - it's nice to enjoy a cheap bar that doesn't throw blaring neon lights at you... Also this place also sells tater tots. Yes, I know a lot of bars sell tater tots, BUT I LOVE TATER TOTS OKAY!! I would totally check this place out again next time I'm in the neighborhood.

This bar/restaurant is tucked away on Barrow Street way in the west village. A little tricky to find if you're not familiar with the intricacies of the Greenwich Village streets. A pretty cool place with a combo of old bar and dive bar and pub feel. The beer was nice and cold. We ordered the nachos ultima and they were ok. We had some wings also that were good. The staff was very nice. I would come back here. Maybe not for dinner but a bar food kind of thing.

Decent bar to watch sports, bartenders are friendly but they absolutely need to clean their tap lines. Twice in the past the 3 months that I've been in there the beers have tasted off. Must be the tap lines.

This is a go to spot for my partner and I! Prior to Delta, we went here as really the only place we felt comfortable eating indoors as they required vaccines inside before the NYC mandate took effect. The food is really good. Better than average bar food. I'm not a drinker, but if you like beer or cocktails, their selection is really vast! So many options to choose from; one may even say too many options. I love they wings, fries, and mac n cheese bites most. The fish sandwich I got once was okay, nothing elite. But it's a very affordable sports bar just a couple blocks from my apartment, and especially affordable for the area it's in. The staff is friendly and sociable. We have our favourite server, and the manager is very nice as well! I absolutely recommend this place!

Barrow Street Ale House has some cheap happy hour drafts of about 15 domestic and import beers. Each is $3.00, with the exception of one that I can't seem to remember. But luckily Guinness is included with a shamrock on top!! The good thing is that the happy hour special is available from 11 AM to 7 PM from Monday through Friday. You'd expect a lot of people to come to this bar, but on weekdays, it can be dead with only a patron or two in there. Things don't start to pick up until after 7 pm, and even then, it can sometimes only be a handful on weekdays. Because of that, my guess that is the reason why the tap beers don't taste as fresh. The bar is spacious with about 10-15 stools by the bar, a few TV's airing sports games, several booths behind it, and a huge open standing space large enough to play shuffleboard. There is also a basement where the bathroom is located as another room that has a few TVs, more seating, and a pool table. The bartenders can sometimes be aloof, talking with their coworkers, but they're more than happy to chat. And just as a notice, there is a $20 minimum for credit cards. We weren't told until we were ready to pay, which was a bit of a nuisance as we were ready to go and had only ordered 6 beers ($18). We wound up having the bartender just charge another beer on the card so we could reach the $21 minimum.

Terrible experience. Met friends in the afternoon on Saturday. Service was awful, the waitress was sullen and not very personable. They have a limited beer list and at certain tables you can't see the screens to read the list. If you ask for the beer list, the waitress shows you a condensed list on her ipad. Very unprofessional all around. Order quacamole and they bring you too little containers--I mean, miniscule, about 1/4 of a normal quantity. Oh, and they have the sound on for the football games on the screens. Avoid this place. There are better beer places within 10 blocks of this sad little mess.

Stopped in here real quick for happy hour before a dinner reservation we had down the street. Awesome happy hour specials with $4 pints. Friendly waitstaff, good selection of beer, and a really cozy ambiance. Happy we stumbled upon this place!

This place is great. Fantastic Monday Night Happy Hour after 7 PM. Sam Adams $3 and 40 cent wings. Great deal. Food is average. Pub food. Nothing to write home about, but you can't go wrong with their daily beer specials......... Lots of TVs. Great for sports. Friendly staff. Good for groups. This place is on my list for watching MNF.

Came here on a WINGS craving and got our fixes for sure!! We had the chipotle BBQ which was very very good. Right amount of saucy, right amount of heat, and flavor for our taste buds. Also had the honey garlic.. But that was waaay too sweet. Tooo Much honey. Didn't like that one. We also got TATER TOTS and I must say I've still been thinking about them (and it's been over a few days since I was there). So fluffy on the inside and crunchy on the out!!! Geeetttt theeemmmmm. I'll be back for those!

I came here to meet a friend late last night after work and it took me a little while to even find this place and walk in. It's pretty discrete so you really have to look out for the post on the outside with the horse! I had goose island IPA which was recommended to me by the bad ass bartender named Brittany. She gave me this because I had originally asked for Stella and they didn't have it so she wanted me to try something that tasted similar. Everyone there was so friendly and amazing it was like I made a whole new group of friends in one night! Cool place to go to! Really nice set up and all! Go go go whenever you're in the west village!!! Only thing I'd say was bad is the size of the bathroom. You have to be like 10 pounds and thinner than cardboard to fit in there!

Cool spot. The vibe is non-pretentious and the beer is cheap. Just near NYU so it shouldn't be surprising. Lots of televisions surround the bar which makes for some great sports watching. Update: Just discovered a pool table downstairs. I really like this place.

Ok so my friend pulled up this spot on a whim when we were looking for a new real bar void of NYU 21year olds and i just tagged along not expecting much more than another bar... Amazing perfectly crisp not over cooked tater tots and a couple pints of their beer selection later the bar felt like an old "cheers " place with a great group pf old friends west village folks looking for chichi pretentious bar may not love but those of us that love a great vibe will come back again and again!
