15 Exciting Spanish Restaurants in San Francisco and the East Bay - Eater SF

"Truly Basque in the sense that it serves both French dishes (like escargots de Bourgogne and foie gras) alongside Spanish ones (gambas and paella, for example), this Jackson Square tapas restaurant has a casual atmosphere and something for everyone. Bask is also authentic in its liberal use of toothpick skewers — the dining implement of choice for casual tapas." - Caleb Pershan

Great food. Shrimp was cooked really good. Lamb's marination was very good. Mushroom was amazing. octopus was flavourful. Will definitely go back.

We happened to find this gem quite serendipitously. First up- they have an actual Spanish Mourvedre. If that's not awesome enough they have a section of menu dedicated to vegetarian dishes- we tried many and all were great but the highlight of them all was a set of terrific vegan lamb meatballs. I thought they would taste just like most simulated meat but was rather surprised at the pleasant texture and aftertaste. Great choices and presentation on desserts as well- one star deducted for a strawberry sauce that just didn't pair with the chocolate lava cake.

My husband and I went here for a Friday night dinner. We did reserve online on the same day. I think we were lucky since most folks were probably out of town. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Service was superb and they were very attentive. We ordered dessert wine and I didn’t like mine. I usually wouldn’t say it but the owner asked. He replaced my drink and it was delicious 👌🏻 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Food was good too! We ordered the paella negra, crab croquette, and basque cheesecake. I expected a bit more with the cheesecake, but it tasted like a normal one. Not the Basque style but still good. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ambiance was great. We liked the music played and it felt intimate. There were families dining as well.

Amazing food, amazing service and a beautiful and caring owner! We were in a quick trip to SF to relax and are self professed foodies. I was pleasantly surprised to see a Spanish restaurant with reservation openings! After tasting this food, I'm amazed they had openings. We ordered different tapas to share, Paella, and dessert. The owner helped us pair wine and beer with our dishes. This is what I love. Amazing food with a personal experience. We will be back every time we visit the city

We ordered 3 dishes - Mushrooms (5/5), Patatas Bravas (4/5, Potato dish), Plant based meatball (2/5, Didn’t like the taste and texture), Spicy margarita (4/5). Overall decent place for vegetarians with flavorful options.

Delicious food, grilled octopus is must try. Spanish style fried chicken surprised me. Paella Royale is too salty for me.

We came by this restaurant because another restaurant we wanted to have lunch at was closed. It was just before noon and there was one table seated. when we came in the asked us if we had reservations we said no and they said we could pretty much set anywhere except for one table. We picked a spot away from the door. After we were seated party of six came in, and then a couple. It seem like we are being ignored. It took awhile for the waitress to come and take her order. and even after we ordered we waited a long time for food. The table next to us seem to get much quicker and friendlier service. We had ordered three medium tapas as listed on the menu. I don't know what their definition of medium is but that was the smallest plates of food I've seen for the price range. I'd ordered potatoes, the miniature sausage and meatballs. The miniature sausages were so salty it was difficult to eat. There was a total of 4 small meatballs on the plate. The meal for three plates of tapas was close to $40. Because we did not enjoy food we didn't order more and paid and left. We actually didn't even finish the food. Considering the price are the food, the fact that we did not enjoy the food, and the service where we are practically ignored the whole entire time and kept trying to flag the waitress down to get the bill. Three or four tables at the restaurant, I can't imagine why it was so hard to even provide us any type of service. No I will never go back there.

The food was delicious, but their service really sucked. We tried the Tchupito drink and ate the Paella. Serving on our plate was worth the price. Waited an hour to be seated when we were told 30min. Notice big favoritism over staff's friends being seated. Worst service ever.
