We decided to come here just to try it out. The atmosphere is wonderful. The bread and butter at the beginning of the meal was great. My daughter said the pomegranate margarita was perfect. She had a sugar steak and I had the chicken fried steak with jalapeño gravy. Both were huge servings. We each took home a to go box. Dessert looked great but we were definitely not hungry.

We arrived at Bastien's for a reservation that we thought we made. Unfortunately, we made a mistake when making the reservation and made it for the wrong day. The host was very accommodating, despite it being very busy, and was able to squeeze in a table for 6 people. The server was very attentive, never letting any drinks remain empty, and had a great personality. We had a great family dinner and are very appreciative of everything they did for us. Loved it. Showed up without a reservation and still received terrific service. Amazing bar drinks. Attentive and personable staff. Excellent food. And a surprise dessert because it was our anniversary! ❤️

The sugar rubbed steaks were incredible! We got the wagyu and the 16oz NY strip. Both were flavorful, and the wagyu melted in your mouth. Also the ladies bathroom was the cleanest restaurant bathroom I had ever seen!

The food here is unbelievable. Cammy was an amazing server with great personality. Nice wines to go with your chicken, steak, or pork. Cocktails are spot on and unique. I gave this place a low atmosphere score because the tables full of “bro groups” were annoying as hell. F-bombs dropped left and right, loud football arguments, and nonstop talk about relations between women and men. The establishment WOULD have had a perfect score from me had it not been for the tables of what seems like frat boys all over the place. Be aware of that if this is meant to be a quiet date.

Bastien’s is hands down the best steak in town! The steaks are always cooked to perfection—tender, flavorful, and juicy. The atmosphere is friendly, cozy, and welcoming, making it a great spot whether you’re going out with family, friends, or even on a date night. The service is warm and attentive, and you can tell they truly care about their guests.

INCREDIBLE. I live a block away and have been smelling this place for almost 2 years, can confirm it tastes even better. Went with my gf for our anniversary, we had a blast with our server Kami, every bite of food was delicious, the vibes were so cool. Can't wait to come back and try some more things, though it can't get better than the sugar rub for me. Got a bottle of champs so can't speak to their cocktails, but I'd venture a guess they're amazing too.

Loved Bastien's! Great old school steakhouse. Had reservations and we were seated immediately. Ordered bone in ribeye with sugar rub, french onion soup and special mashed potatoes. Wonderful lemon drop. Great value for money. Excellent service. Will return for special occasions.

When you make everything in house and do it right, the end product is delicious. Service was professional and friendly. Sat next to the tree, beautiful.

You have to go to this Steakhouse if you live or are visiting Denver. It's so iconic! Fabulous streaks, outstanding drinks, stellar service, classic atmosphere and just a cool place to have a meal.

Liked that there's a parking lot there. It's a very old school vibe which I cool. We had a reservation for 6 and an extra person showed up and they nicely accommodated. The food and service was good. When I ordered, I had the impression that the soup was part of my meal, but I was charged extra for it.

Making reservations was a breeze, and I'd strongly advise it, especially for a bustling Saturday night. The restaurant was busy, a testament to its popularity. Now, onto the food--the fries left a bit to be desired, lacking the freshness one expects. However, the star of the evening was undoubtedly the sugar steak sandwich. It's a must-try! Service-wise, the staff was attentive and friendly, adding to the overall enjoyable experience. However, there were some hiccups; they took quite a while to bring the check and clear our table. Despite these minor setbacks, the overall experience was delightful, and I would certainly return for that sugar steak sandwich alone. If you're in Denver and seeking a charming spot with a touch of history and culinary delights, this steakhouse is worth a visit :)

I was absolutely blown away by this place, the food was outstanding and our waitress was so passionate about food and cocktails. I felt like she made our night into a dining experience and I am still dreaming about my bigger better old fashioned, my filet mignon with a double baked potato, and the greatest Brussels I've ever eaten (Mexican street corn special). It has a cozy atmosphere, and it's on Colfax in the most unlikely place. Do yourself a favor and try it, you definitely won't be disappointed.

I really enjoyed my first Bastien's experience tonight! Bastien's is known as home of the sugar steak which means they are known for cooking steak with a sugar rub. *Spoiler alert - it's delicious!* We went to celebrate a friend's birthday, and enjoyed a great old school steakhouse dinner. In addition to steak, Bastien's serves burgers, chicken, pork, entree salads, some pasta dishes. and salmon. I tried the steakhouse burger (with slim fries), and really enjoyed it! It was delicious and juicy. My partner got the classic NY strip with garlic mashed potatoes. There are vegetarian options here (not much vegan), and a huge cocktail list! The atmosphere is cute with Christmas lights and a vintage feel. Pro tip: definitely call ahead a book a reservation! Overall- 4/5!

I came for the aesthetics and unsure how the food was going to be. It was a busy night and the serving crew was probably understaffed. I give a pass to server because of this but it was otherwise 2-3 star from a service perspective. The food was incredible and we left deeply impressed with the quality of the kitchen despite being busy. I did not enjoy the old can of IPA for $6.50 but 5 stars due to food alone. Coffee ground steak rub minus the chimichurri/avocado is clutch.

I have lived in Denver for 10 years and this was my first time here. So grateful that I decided to come here. The steaks were amazing. Not your typical over priced steakhouse. Great quality food, reasonable prices and excellent friendly service. NY Strip Steak 16oz. Bone In 10/10. The steak toppers both the coffee run and southwestern were amazing 10/10. The banana cream pie was spectacular, second best I have ever had 10/10. The stuffed mushrooms appetizer was very good 8.5/10. The salads were pretty good, they came with the meal, we both had wedges 7/10. The other appetizer was the caprese tortellini skewers, pretty good, a little on the small but great flavor 7/10. The bread on the table was good with seasoned onion or garlic butter 8/10. I am looking forward to getting to come back again soon. A great spot for a night out or a date!

Just celebrated my birthday here a week ago and it was just as fabulous as ever. There were many holiday parties, however, Kami took excellent care of us. The special was Wagyu and it melted in your mouth. I tried the bread pudding this time and it was phenomenal. Will keep celebrating special occasions here!

Love the food and drinks here but it's impossible to get in. The Resy says there are no openings always and we tried to show up but alas, turned away. I hope we can figure it out.

Our steak dinners were delicious! The service and ambience always a nice side for your food. Good memories made here.

While in Denver for the weekend celebrating my wife birthday, I wanted to take her to a steakhouse that wasn't pretentious and stuffy. When I found Bastiens on Yelp, I knew right away this was it. The absolutely loved this place. It was nice, but not too nice. The food was delicious and affordable. I definitely recommend this place to anyone.

One word: Professional. One more: Outstanding. Friendly and unobtrusive staff...waitress, bartender, manager. A Perfectly cooked NY strip and amazing mashed potatoes.

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. We ordered the filet mignon, a 10 oz NY steak, and their Chef Burger. Everything was cooked as we asked and tasted amazing. The host, waitress, and server were all extremely friendly and accommodating. The retro vibe ensures you know that you aren't eating at just any steakhouse, you are eating at a steakhouse on colorful Colfax. This is traditional steakhouse done exceptionally well. The longevity of this place speaks for itself and its reputation is well deserved as a staple in the Denver scene.

We looked up top steaks in Denver and found this retro place with unique atmosphere and great customer service. The food was amazing. We started with the bareback shrimp - the flavor was spot on and super spicy! We ordered the stroganoff, sugar rub New York strip and the 4x4. The food was cooked to perfection. For desert we got the sizzlin apple pie with ice cream. Yummy! We will definitely be back! Thanks to Patrick for taking care of us.

Amazing!! Went here with a bunch of really great friends and Bastien's took care of us! We were not the easiest group either, but they handled us and the food, as always, was top notch. If you have never tried the sugar steak, then you need to go. It is fantastic place and so thankful that it is unique and independent.

I would give a 5 star but the demeanor and attitude of the young hostess set a negative tone from the outset but our server and the wonderful meal made up for it. Our reservation was for 4:00 for four people. There was no one on the main level yet and she tried to seat us at the table right inside the front door by the hostess stand, I politely requested we be further away from the door and she showed her irritation and annoyance at my request. She reluctantly accommodated us. With that said, our server was wonderful and our meals were delicious.

One of the best meals I've had in Denver. Normally I think Denver food is mid but Bastien's blew all expectations out of the water. Will be a lifelong customer!

We have been enjoying Bastien's for years; it's truly a Denver staple and landmark for all! My husband and I love their delicious menu and sumptuous cocktails -- we love those classic aluminum martini glasses and our usual gin martinis straight up dirty with olives!

Maybe it's just me.. but I didn't particularly enjoy the sugar rub and a side of david (3 shrimp with hollandaise sauce on top) I want steaks to be juicy and full of flavor but maybe I'm not used to steaks being sweet. The taste is definitely different than what I am used to. We sat upstairs and the ambiance was relaxing but a bit loud from other tables. Mashed potatoes were soft and savory. Vegetables were a bit burnt and overdone. Service was ok at first but near the end maybe it was getting busier and server didn't check up on us after until we asked for the check. Not sure if I would come back again. But I visited hearing my friend rave about this place and it's long history. Was a bit disappointed but it could just be my own personal preference in taste.

This place is an incredible time capsule. The restaurant dates back to the 30s, but the building itself is from the 50s. The music is often from the rat pack era which fits with the overall vibe. They have a full bar service and the steaks are always a treat, especially their famous sugar steaks. The wait staff is always friendly and helpful too. If you think Colfax isn't your thing, think again!

Ok bear with me on this trip down memory lane. I actually took my prom date to Bastians and to find it's still open after all this time was astonishing! I have never had meal here you order a medium rare steak and that's what you get they have never screwed up a steak! Their vegetable's are fresh and desserts delicious. It is seriously a walk down memory lane every time I go there and I love it the ambiance seriously hasn't changed. The service is always on point before during and after the meal and if you like cocktails their bar is awesome. I recommend a reservation but I have walked in and had dinner at the bar a time or 2 and still had a fantastic meal and service. 5 stars

We took way too long to try this place. We have lived here for over 5 years and tonight was the first time we tried this restaurant. From the outside, I was expecting overhyped and average-at-best steaks. For how long this place has been opened, I accidentally set the bar pretty low and left incredibly surprised as to how much I loved everything! We walked in with no ressies and waited the full 45 mins at the bar for our party of 2. It's such a throwback restaurant - perfectly frozen in time. What luck we had to be seated upstairs - yes, there is an upstairs! The layout of this restaurant is crazy. I can't believe how comfortably roomy the place was. Not a huge restaurant, but well spaced for diners. Mind you, it's a weeknight and we weren't here to leisurely dine, so no apps just entrees tonight. The hubs ordered the 10 oz NY strip with the famous sugar rub. I ordered the 10 oz NY strip with the "black and tan" topping. Both were very delicious and we were quite stuffed. Plus, his French Onion soup and my grilled Caesar were plenty good on their own. Hands down a very yummy steak spot. Can't wait to come back!

It's been around for 87 years and in its unique owner designed carousel structure since '58. I driven past it many a time and started saying we should go there. Last night we finally did and it did not disappoint. Great appetizers! We had bacon wrapped scallops on flash fried spinach cooked to perfection. I tried the Bigger Better cocktail--bourbon, amaretto, brown sugar simple syrup, black walnut bitters and a lucrado cherry. Sweet and delightful. I went with the classic 10 ounce New York strip steak medium rare with the sugar rub and steak fries and grilled Caesar salad. The steak was great--juicy and flavorful with a hint of sweetness and other spices. The fries were amazing--creamy in the inside, crisp on the outside. Who would have thought grilling the romaine would have such an impact. My partner had the special wagyu culotte, a rare cut to see anywhere. His was rare on cheddar mash potatoes with a tasty French onion soup. He chose the black and tan preparation which is mushrooms, demiglace and Gorgonzola. Very savory. Breadsticks with a savory garlic butter start you off and along with the potato option, soup or dinner salad, and vegetables are included. The grilled Caesar was well worth the upgrade. We chose from an impressive wine list two different red wines to accompany our dinners. Montepulciano and Sangiovese, both wonderful. Finally we somehow squeezed in a slice of coconut banana crème pie with fresh brewed coffee for me and Nespresso for them. The service was incredible--informative and attentive. The vibe was very old school steakhouse with copper accents, etched logos, lots of tucked in divided spaces for groups of diners. It was busy with customers but a relaxed experience. Definitely will return and recommend.

Service was fast and friendly, wasn't sure what to expect when I went in but I'm so glad I did the steak was modest but cooked perfectly. I didn't even get a chance to take a picture of the wedge salad because it was too good to resist!

This is one of Denver's quintessential steakhouses. They've been open forever and there's a reason. Famous for their sugar steaks which definitely live up to the hype, you're going to experience steak like you never have before. Unlike some places that specialize in steaks, Bastien's also knows how to do their sides and appetizers right. The atmosphere of Bastien's brings back that old school gentleman's supper club feeling with its iconic building and charming interior. Service is always impeccable but not a stop you want to make if you're in a hurry, and you definitely need reservation. Accessibility: This is an old building. Parking is always tough in this area and Bastien's is no exception although it does have a free parking lot. There are double doors to get inside at the bottom of a steep ramp, the outside door is moderately heavy but the inside doors are light. There are three stories without an elevator so make sure to indicate you need the main floor. The women's bathroom itself is spacious and has a grab bar, but the door to get into the bathroom is very narrow. They do have their menu online- but you don't need it you should just order a sugar steak.

Apparently one of Denver's institutions... restaurant looked a little date. Still made a reservation nonetheless... had to cancel three times and reschedule. Yesterday, we came in. It was packed. We were escorted to take our table... and man, was I glad I got a table! Super old school, Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra posters on the walls, dimly lit ambience and old school Italian music in the air. We had steaks. Man, great portion sizes, the sugar rub on my rib eye was phenomenal, made a nice charred glaze on medium rare meat! So juicy and tasty! We also had the new work strip grilled and prepared same style. Soooooo good. No culinary acrobatics but good ole' home cooked perfection. Desserts were marvelous too-- we had a sizzling peach pie a la mode and a rich velvety chocolate cake. The pie was a nice mix of hot and cold and sweet and tart. Cannnot go wrong with that one. And if you have a sweet tooth... this is the chocolate cake you imagine when you think chocolate cake. Again, simple, but CORRECT. We left super full. And we will keep this one a secret. One of Denver's finest secrets. What a gem.

I can't believe I have not reviewed this place yet. Silly me, missing one of my favorite joints in town. Let's talk ambience and setting first. It's in a great building. I was surprised that it wasn't an original building but when they did build it, they did it right. I love sitting upstairs and looking up at the ceiling. I'm not sure it's terribly unique but it catches my eye. They have a cool sunken bar that looks fun to sit at as well. The round shape gives an overall interesting perspective for diners. The service is great. It's mostly family ran which is fun. The staff know the history of the place, the family, and food. I doubt it could be any different and still have the charm it has with one on one service. The menu is robust with steak and prep styles. I'm a black and tan fan. Side note they're big for their sugar steak and I think that works well on the steak sandwich but I didn't love it on the steak. My goal is to try all the varieties of prep styles. I do come here enough. Haha. There's only been one item I didn't love but that had zero to do with prep or dish I just didn't like the flavor. The pasta, I'd say is a solid skip but again I'm sure those who would like it do. As for sides, the wedge salad is delicious. The French onion also great. The desserts are fantastic but I love the banana pie and now the whit chocolate bread pudding. They were out of banana one night. They also do a few cool drink choices with great appetizers. I loved the stuffed mushrooms and they have something that makes me blush everyone I see it on the menu. You can go and you'll see it. There you have it. I love this place.

Service was impeccable. It was a busy Saturday night but our server Lara took the time to explain everything and truly seemed to care about the food and the restaurant. She recommended drinks I had the Love Potion and it was delicious, my husband had one of their limited old fashion. He didn't care for it much, he thought it was took sweet. We both had steaks. I had the ribeye sugar style with a house salad with ranch and mashed potatoes. Pretty sure this was the best ranch I've ever had. I'm going to be craving it for a long time. Steak was cooked well, the sugar style was sweet but not too sweet. It provided a nice char on the outside. Hubs had the wagyu David style with a grill Caesar salad and twice bake potato. Steak was cooked well and he liked the David style. We had bread pudding for desert and it was A+.

Legit steaks. Service was tops. Charred Caesar Salad was good. The bacon wrapped scallops were great. The 20oz bone in rib-eye cooked jalapeño style was a 10 out of 10. Fresh made Bread was great. Ambiance was old school Negihbor good steak joint but was welcoming in an old fashioned way. I'd come back!

Bastien's Steaks are simply incredible. You can cut them with your butter knife they are so tender. And always perfectly cooked. To add to your dining experience, always order the GRILLED Caesar Salad. Absolutely incredible. And for dsssert... choose them all. You cannot go wrong. The cocktails, wine and soft drink service were impeccable, and our waitress was completely capable- and never intrusive. Remember... this is the home of the SUGAR STEAK. GET IT! It is incredible... as are the ribeyes. All grilled to perfection. The best steak in Denver in an ambience of 1960 America... upscale. Enjoy!

Great family style steakhouse Unique ambience and architecture. Friendly service I highly recommend the sugar steak (the sweetness is subtle) and dry aged steak. Onion soup was too salty and pork chop was so so ( not tender enough) It was a special occasion and they served complimentary cheese cake. Very thoughtful and the cheese cake was delicious!!

Ughhhhhhh, this place is soooo good!!! We went here for our anniversary date so we made reservations. They greeted and seated us on time. We've never been there and I never heard of the sugar rub so the kind waitress explained everything to us. She had a ton of energy, very friendly, and super helpful. We ordered the Bone Marrow special. My god it was good. We also ordered the New York Strip sugar rub with jalapeño as well as the Cheddar Horse burger. Everything was so good and on point. Highly recommend going!

A great steakhouse with a traditional feel/ambiance. I recommend the 4x4, bacon wrapped tenderloin and scallops. Our server was Patrick, very polite and helpful. Easy to recommend if you are in the area and looking for a steak and a glass of wine.

Are waitresses was very rude. After I told I was waiting for my food over hour. And had ask three different people about my second drink. Then she told me and my date that this not the place for us. I felt like I was not welcome due that I was gay and not. White. I've always had a good experience. I will go back and make sure I tell everyone.

Best steakhouse in Denver, Forget the fancy over priced butt licking fancy shmancy, this place is a GEM, highly recommended for a nice affordable yet still competitive steak dinner, the potato of the week is always amazing. Best cocktails and amazing service, loungy dim lit atmosphere perfect for chatting! Date night and celebrations alike or just craving some meat, Bastiens wont disappoint.

Though it was our first time, Bastien's is an "old tradition" here in Denver, for better and worse. The better is that it *feels* like a classic steakhouse -- not trying to be super-snooty fancy or pretentious. And its longevity shows they know what they are doing. The menu has something for everyone (except for the couple who came in and then immediately left because she didn't see a non-beef dish she wanted), but it pretty straightforward. On the steak side you can get NY Strip, Rib-Eye, or Filet Mignon, with a dozen different preparations, including their famous "sugar steak". The worse is ... well, the place is more than a little worn. There's a lot of dust in the grillwork by the lower floor booths. Wires run through weird places. Antique decor clips still show up where they oughtn't. The place could use a freshening up. The service was very good -- slow at times (they were apparently slammed with more guests than expected for a Wednesday night), but friendly and helpful in an "old school" comfortable way. We had multiple cocktails from the menu. All were well done. Foodwise things were mixed, though overall good. I went for the "sugar steak" -- grilling with sugar to give a sweet crust to the meat. An interesting technique, but, I decided, not my cuppa. But there were plenty of other options for the next time there. My ribeye was a little tough. The twice-baked potato was not as cheesy as expected, but the mashed potatoes were quite good, and the steak fries awesome. The mixed veggies were good, and the french onion soup a smash. Only one dessert was ordered, the chocolate cake, but it was huge (all three of us nibbled off of it and were content). Overall, I'd give this a 4.5; 4 downplays some great elements here, 5 ignores some flaws. I'll round up, though, for the experience. Dinner wasn't cheap, but we felt we got value for the money. It's not in our part of Denver, but we'll definitely remember Bastien's for another special night out.

Bastien's is totally cool in the "I-do-what I-know-how-to-do" kinda way. They serve better than average steaks prepared exactly like you like them. Each steak comes with a salad, a potato and fresh veggies. And the people, well, they were having a grand old time: High energy, having fun, talking amongst themselves and with their neighboring seat, kind of like a big old block party. Very unlike the more restrained atmosphere of places like Capitol Grille or Elways. And that also went for our server who was so sweet, kind and just plain fun. Finally, the prices are nowhere close to the top end steakhouses...and all of that is just perfect with me.Simply put, its your local community's steakhouse.
