Anticipated Scandinavian Bakery and Restaurant Kantine Will Open in June | Eater SF

"I learned that the Ghaben/Gonzales family, who operate several East Bay franchises of Mel’s and Black Bear Diners, will open their first original restaurant, Batch and Brine, in downtown Lafayette this June; chef David Suarez is preparing "fancy burgers and sandwiches" and a hefty brunch." - Caleb Pershan

Food was good but a little dry. Wish there was more gravy. Not too expensive either. The staff was great too! Would probably return now that I know it exists. I came for boozie brunch and I was SOOO happy she came to Lafayette! Unfortunately, that area isn’t used to that level of fun and people called the cops for no reason at all but I’m glad the establishment allowed us to keep having fun.

Google
So yummy and excellent service. This is the kind of place where every employee is taking care of you not just your assigned server. Very attentive staff!!! We ate every single bite of everything we ate it was just so good.

Google
Stopped in for dinner with my daughter and her friends (all teen girls). Just a short wait (under 20 minutes) since we wanted indoor seating. The menu was solid and there were lots of choices. The brussel sprouts were awesome, as was the giant pretzel for apps. I didn't get pics of all entrees but fish tacos, fish and chips, spicy chicken sandwich, and BBQ pork sandwich were all great. Next time we are in town we will be back.

Steve and Ashton, the trainee and the veteran were excellent in service and very professional. They were fast courteous and kept checking on us. The food came out hot and delicious two thumbs up on the whole staff. Compliments to the chef. One of the best moments of the night is when they brought us a moose with whipped cream with two candles in it for our 11th year anniversary thank you so much. We're going to tell all of our family and friends about this place. This is the best first experience that we had at an excellent restaurant in a very long time. Thank you guys very much. We will be coming again. and we also wanna give a shout out to (Dude Approved) Michael, "@the firstdatedude" on TikTok thx for Recommending such an excellent place, and thank you all.

Google
The place offers a great vibe that’s perfect for a casual outing or a special occasion. The service is excellent - friendly and attentive staff with beautiful smiles, make the experience enjoyable from start to finish. The menu has a good selection of dishes, ensuring there’s something for everyone, and the food is consistently well-prepared. Salad bowls and juicy burgers can be a great pick. Some good deserts to choose from. The main dining area is spacious and thoughtfully designed, creating a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. For those who enjoy dining al fresco, the patio is a nice touch. Parking is convenient with a pay-as-you-go option available in the back. Overall, Batch & Brine is a solid choice for good food and great ambiance here in Lafayette!

Google
Let me say. I had never been to Lafayette before. This is such a cute downtown area. Lots of bars and restaurants. Well placed establishment. Service was absolutely a 5. Staff was very friendly and seemed to be having a lot of fun. We were there on a late Sunday afternoon. We ordered a few things to share. Fish and Chips. Would recommend. Very fresh and crisp. The Wings were the best thing on the menu by far. Memphis Rub was the house recommendation. We got the OG Mac and cheese. It was fine. I would try a different one next time. And we got the loaded pulled pork fries. Could have used a bit more BBQ for me. Overall- food was good. I’ll be back and try different menu items. Fried Chicken Sandwich looks to be a real fav here. Outstanding service. Great cocktails. Full bar. Plenty of parking as well. Thanks for a great afternoon ! See you soon!

Google
Had brunch with the girlfriends & we ordered a couple of items to share - see pics on what we ordered! We chose outside seating which was pleasant. Overall, the food was a combination of good & just ok. Glad to have tried this place but no need to repeat for me.

Google
Great atmosphere with outdoor seating. Dog friendly! Came on a Saturday around 4pm and was seated right away. They have a good happy hour menu from 3 to 5 that had delicious chicken tacos and beef taquitos for a good price. Loved the Mac and cheese that has a variety of add-on choices. The fries and pastrami sandwich were enjoyable. I just wish it had more meat. Also loved that they have a Mocktail menu, we tried the lavender haze and red & stormy. The service was a little slow our waitress didn't know we were sat in her section, and then she didn't check on us much. Another kind server or runner was more attentive, bringing all our drinks and food plus water for our dog. Overall would recommend and will be back!

Yelp
It was a beautiful day, perfect for lunch at Batch and Brine. I went with my mom, dad, and my son, and we couldn't have picked a better spot. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting--great for both family time and good food. I ordered the Sierra Burger with Parmesan fries, and it was absolutely delicious. The burger was juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly, and the Parmesan fries were crispy with just the right amount of seasoning. My mom and dad ordered the tacos, and they loved them--fresh ingredients, great flavor, and generous portions. Overall, Batch and Brine was a wonderful experience with great food, friendly service, and a laid-back vibe. We all left full and happy. Definitely a place I'd visit again!

Yelp
Four of us dropped in for lunch on a Tuesday. Not too busy so we chose to sit outside in perfect weather. Interesting furniture and layout. We grabbed a few cushions to make the metal chairs more comfortable. The burgers came with fries or salads, so we ordered two of each. Burgers were perfectly cooked to order. The fries were extra crispy, as requested and the salads were freshly dressed. Service was a bit spotty. Also the bathroom needs a little touch up.

Yelp
Amazing Dinner! There's definitely something for everyone here. Loved the onion blossom, Mac and cheese, and poke nachos for appetizers. Steak frites and harissa chicken is definitely recommended. Those items are fit for a king. Cocktails are good and strong and glad they have mocktail options as well. Service is quick which I liked since I was hungry! Will def be back!

Yelp
A nice spot to sit outside in nice weather, enjoy a game or have good times with family and friends. New chef has improved the menu. It is a local favorite.

Yelp
Batch & Brine has been a local favorite of mine for years. I enjoy the wonderful service from their friendly staff, and the food is always served up fast and delicious. Their selection of local beers and other drinks is outstanding. I love the location and that they have both indoor and outdoor dining options available. Great place to grab some bites and drinks with friends!

Yelp
I was on a quest to try what a newspaper article had said were the best chicken wings in the Bay Area. Batch & Brine was on the list. Unlike other places on the list, this is a sit-down restaurant with a full menu. The wings are an appetizer option. I had to limit my intake so I had just that. You get 8 wing pieces, half drums and half flats, with a cup of sauce and a few celery sticks. I didn't try the sauce because I like my wings dry and because the flavoring, labeled as Memphis bbq, though not strong was quite tasty. The wings are presumably cooked to order; the meat was a little but not overly dry. This was a pretty good wing offering. I found myself abandoned by my server for a while; when she finally returned she spoke of some crisis that had delayed her.

Yelp
Amazing food, beautiful scenery I took my wife for a birthday brunch. The service wasnt too good. Honestly speaking our server kept neglecting to come over to help but other than that our first time experience was good. We both ordered the salad bowls I had the chicken one

Yelp
Had this place bookmarked for years and finally got around to trying it. Knew about it because one of our favorite pizza spots, Pizza Antica, is right next door. Met up with my two cousins for a little family time. My youngest cousin wanted the full rundown on our family history, so we gave her the uncut version nothing like breaking down family stories over happy hour : ) Speaking of happy hour, it runs from 2:30-5:30, with $1 off draft beers and $10 margaritas. The vibe was chill, but man, it gets LOUD in there. Indoor and outdoor seating options, and the staff was solid. We ordered off the happy hour menu. The nachos were good, no complaints. The fried onion blossom was really good, definitely worth ordering. The sweet potato fries were solid, crispy, and had just the right amount of seasoning. The Nashville hot sliders were tasty, but not that real Tennessee hot. Everyone's got their own spin, though, so I'll give them that. Still solid. Had a couple of Fieldwork Rotating Sours at 4.8%, which was a change of pace from my usual high percentage IPAs (6-9%). Let's just say the drinks made the family history lesson way more entertaining lol. Overall, happy hour snacks were solid. Next time, I'll dive into the full menu and see what else they've got. Definitely will be back to visit.

Yelp
Friendly service. It's a bar and we came for salads. The salads were perfectly serviceable. I'd have given 3 stars by t figured this place is really more about bar and bar food than salad! I had the salmon salad. Nice goat cheese. The salmon itself was a little fishy but again, totally edible Hubby had the fried chicken ranch salad. Fried coating a bit thick but, again totally edible.

Yelp
We visit Batch & Brine on a semi-regular basis and do enjoy it, but new issues seem to surface with each successive experience. Our most recent visit was particularly frustrating as there were disappointments in every key area. Food is tasty but always very heavy on carbs. I had the Pastrami Hash for brunch which was nearly all potatoes. Out of the few pastrami chunks , many were very heavily charred to the point of being incinerated. I really should have gotten a photo. The restaurant is lovely inside and out, but the inside is very unpleasantly noisy during popular hours. We prefer outside in nice weather, but these tables are claimed quickly. Service is usually exceptional, but was atrocious on our last visit. Again, this isn't the norm and I really don't know what was up with our waiter. He introduced himself once to take drink orders and then disappeared for the longest time. Someone else finally delivered 2 of our 3 drinks and we had to ask again for the 3rd. Our waiter never returned to take our food order (although I spotted him several times around the restaurant) and we finally flagged down someone else to take our food order after another 20 minutes or so had passed. We waited yet again after eating, and then our original waiter inexplicably showed up at the very end after someone else had handled our bill and the brunch crowd had long since cleared -- no apology, just goodbye. We like Batch & Brine enough that I'm sure we'll be back -- but it's quickly becoming a less common choice for us.

Yelp
I waited a couple of months to go to this cute restaurant in downtown Lafayette. I've been wanting to go especially since they started doing a brunch. I finally got my family out for a brunch date on a beautifully rainy day. We came at 10:00am when they opened and it wasn't packed yet. They sat us quickly in a lovely booth that was plenty spacious for us four. I asked our server if the whole menu was available or only the brunch side and she said everything was available! That was a nice surprise, but I had to try the brunch menu since we were there for those hours. I got the southern Benedict, my sweetie got the salmon Benedict, my dad ordered the chicken fried ribeye, and mom got the Chile verde and eggs. The fried chicken was delicious and paired with that hollandaise is magic. I love that the hollandaise is well balanced with enough lemon and buttery notes. I loved that it was on a biscuit that was buttery and flakey. The potatoes were sort of bland. They had a good crunch but not enough flavor. My mom's child verde and eggs was delicious. That hatch chili is incredible! Sadly my mom's eggs had a hair in it. Luckily when we told the waitress she was very kind and it was handled with care. The entree was taken off the bill and they offered to get her something else. I was pleasantly surprised at how they handled everything and made ya feel very welcomed. Our coffees were quickly refilled and our waitress was so on top of everything. I'll be back to try the burgers for sure! Looking forward to coming out again

Yelp
Went here for the RNB Brunch last month and had a great time! It was a nice vibe, no one acting crazy, everyone vibing. Service was a bit slow and we were really hungry, but the server was cool. Managers did check in to see how things were. Music selection was good and it was super funny seeing the locals looking over at the restaurant. Probably never heard anything like it before, we were taking over that area! For the food: I had the crab Benedict. Initially, it tasted cold but then after a few bites, it could tell it was warm. The potatoes were excellent! I wish I had a whole bowl of them! My cousins had the chicken & waffles and the chicken was juicy yet crunchy. The waffles didn't really need the syrup but I like the extra touch. Drinks: I really enjoyed the white sangria! It had a hint of ginger and the blueberries were really crisp. I had two . I don't remember the name of the drink my cousin had but she said it was just ok. I'm glad I came to the event, I never really get out much due to work but it was so nice seeing so many people having a great time and enjoying this restaurant. I would like to go back again on a regular day.

Yelp
Delicious! We had the don't be crabby sandwich and it was so good. Will definitely be back to try other things in the menu. And the service was great. Also, very cute patio area to enjoy the day.

Yelp
We had a birthday cake to pick up nearby and decided to pop in to Batch & Brine for brunch beforehand. My mom, my daughter, and I all found food we were happy with. These choices ranged from the Nashville hot chopped chicken salad, to French toast, and huevos rancheros. Batch & Brine really does have something for everyone on their extensive menu. At the conclusion of the meal our friendly server offered my daughter chocolate pudding or ice cream for her birthday (this was her introduction to birthday treats at restaurants...things will never be the same). She chose ice cream and was very happy about it. If you have a kid celebrating a birthday, I recommend Batch & Brine.

Jason T.

Yelp
We were just generally disappointed with the food. The chicken sandwich had very little flavor including even the spicy aioli, and I got the Nashville style (for an extra $2) that was supposed to be spicy and flavorful, and it was neither. My daughter's bbq pork and beer cheese over fries was really not very good - the beer cheese was an off flavor and was gritty (like not fully melted) and the bbq pork was overly sweet and didn't go with the cheese sauce. And my wife's fish (in fish & chips) was bland.

Yelp
I had heard really good things about this place! I was really excited to visit here based on the great reviews I'd heard. I came with a group of 5 people and we were able to get seated right away which was surprising. I thought this place would be packed during dinner time because of the high popularity. The ambiance is very trendy and aesthetically pleasing. The host that seated us was very friendly. The food was good however it was not as amazing as I was expecting from the raving reviews I'd heard. I still recommend giving this place a try and I'd likely visit again.

Yelp
Food was great. Service was fast and pleasant. Outside had fire pit and nice patio.
google avatar

Reena T.

Yelp
Liked the outdoor ambience and Vertical garden. Along with the mural art on the walls. The service was attentive and nice. We ordered a lot of food but what stood out the most were the Brussel sprouts and fish tacos, and the cocktails and mocktails were really good!
google avatar

La Tanya J.

Yelp
My friend and I went for a girls day! We had the yummiest Brussels crispy! Sweet potato fries and i had the fig burger it was so yummy fresh and flavorful. The cocktails were crafted and staff was top notch

Olivia B.

Yelp
We were able small group and ordered just about all the small plates on the menu and tried all the featured drinks. The food was very good. They had a game on, so we were able to watch while eating. We were one of the last to leave. We did not know we were there past closing time. Staff did not rush us out. Service was excellent. Ambiance was excellent. Food was excellent.
google avatar

Kenneth H.

Yelp
Fries are fantastic. Fish and chips were pretty good! Service was great. Just find it weird the outdoor seating is a bit slanted. Would definitely make this a regular spot.
google avatar

Nelly R.

Yelp
I am not new to this place but this is my first Yelp review. Every time I have been to Batch & Brine I am never disappointed with the wait time (never waited more than 10 minutes), food (I have always ordered something different) or customer service (staff is great). What is wild is I have never been during dinner hours so that is my next plan. Overall, if you have not been to Batch & Brine check it out.

Yelp
This is a hot spot for a trendy atmosphere, great service and amazing food. You can sit inside in a cozy setting table or sit at the bar and enjoy a nice drink , have great conversation with the bartender and watch a game or sit outside on the patio with covered umbrella tables and enjoy the fresh air. Service is fantastic. From the hostess to the servers to the manager who checks in on your table. Food is very good. The cauliflower Fritos was our starter with a little dipping sauce. Then we had a a cheeseburger that was so tender and juicy with a side salad instead of fries. And also had the "Don't Be Crabby" sandwich. Amazing! Wait let me say it again. Amazing! The crab salad on sourdough with cheese was very delicious.
google avatar

Livier M.

Yelp
Dropped in for Mother's Day and was a lil disappointed. They had such great reviews so I had really high expectations of what the food would be like. I ordered the sliders and they were super dry with barely any flavor to them at all. We also shared an order of fries and they were oddly sweet which I greatly dislike when they season them in that way. So if you love that you'll probably love them. The only thing I can rave about were their mocktails which were a 10/10 and the service. The guy was really attentive and helpful so I really liked that even though the food was just eh.
google avatar

Danielle W.

Yelp
Went for happy hour and sat on the patio. We ordered margaritas, garlic fries, onion blossom, chips & dips and the bbq pork sliders. We loved the margaritas and garlic fries the most. Probably would've been satisfied with half an onion blossom but it was good. Plenty of chips but the queso was the best dip (guac, queso and salsa). We would probably pass on the sliders next time though. Our waiter was nice and checked on us once the food started coming out. It was a little slow to order but maybe bc I had gotten there first and was waiting for my sister to arrive.

Yelp
Batch and Brine is my go to local restaurant for fulfilling salads, interesting burgers, and a pretty decent beer list. Love the seating outdoors, it's the perfect spot to bring out of town guests for a quick bite or to grab lunch while doing errands on Mt. Diablo. It's a special place.
google avatar

Aaliyah J.

Yelp
I love this place. I knew I would. We were a party of 5 and sat on the patio. We all ordered a different dish and it was awesome. That says a great deal that you can order five random meals and knock them all out of the park on a Saturday afternoon. Pros, Pros, Pros : The kids tenders and fries - my son loved it. Especially the fries Kids cheeseburger and fries - the burgers is a double slider with white cheddar and was fresh & delicious. Sushi sandwhich - though the wasabi was hot for my teenage son he said he will definitely order it again. Salmon Po boy - very well seasoned. My daughter was not a fan of capers but the flavor profile was otherwise on point. And again- loved the fries. BBQ pork sandwich - I need to know what's in that bbq sauce. It's amazing. My sandwich was so packed with meat it was unreal. AND... to top it off we had the lavender and the peach non- alcoholic drinks. Two banana and one vanilla shake. The banana shake has banana bits in it! Desert- Bread pudding with a side of custard. Best bread pudding I've ever tasted in my LIFE! Minor con: Our shakes were delivered long after our food so they became almost a desert instead. Either way two servers jumped right on it and made it happen. 10/10 ‍. I love this place. Can't wait until we return in a few weeks.

Yelp
This is a great spot to watch a game and have a beer! They have an excellent beer selection and lots of TVs. Got the impossible burger and fries and while the portions were great and they loaded it up with toppings, there wasn't much flavor on either. Tons of outdoor seating too and dog friendly! Staff were all super friendly as well. I would come back for the beers.
google avatar

Rick R.

Yelp
Went here for the first time this past weekend. Great outdoors Amazing service (Steven - talking to you) Generous portions, Dutch style fries and sauces. We left very full and happy at a reasonable price. I can't think of anything I would change.

Yelp
We went on a Saturday night and the place was hopping. We've been once before, for lunch, and sat on the patio. Our sever was engaging, and she helped highlight staff favorites. Food and drinks arrived very quickly: shockingly fast, actually. We had wings, burgers and some unique fries.. The wings were fine: would not get them next time. Everything else was great. The curated beer list was excellent. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Batch and Brine hosted an R&B brunch today that was too much fun!! Not only were the vibes on point but the food was equally amazing! I had the short rib breakfast burrito and the corn salsa was DELICIOUS!! Big shoutout to our server Gustavo who was absolutely fantastic!!

Yelp
Cute place with street art painted on the walls and a decent amount of indoor and outdoor seating and lots of metered parking right behind the restaurant. Portions were pretty big but things were fairly expensive. The chicken and waffle appetizer "bites" were 3 big waffles with large chunks of fried chicken and pickles on top (with syrup on the side). They were way bigger than we expected but quite tasty with a soft waffle and juicy & crispy chicken. The chopped chicken salad had nice veggies and dressing with a bunch of fried chicken chunks on top. The chorizo breakfast burrito had super flavorful crema & sauce on top but it was basically filled only with beans and french fries with just a little bit of cheese and egg and basically no chorizo (I think I tasted chorizo in about 3 bites out of the whole burrito). The pecan French toast was fluffy and tasty with nice banana chunks but the pecans we're a bit plain. We'll definitely come back here to try more of the menu but will definitely avoid the breakfast burrito in the future.

Yelp
Good Happy Hour spot in Lafayette. HH is everyday from 3-5pm. I came here for HH a few months ago. There's a beer flight deal 3 for $10 or 5 for $15. My boyfriend opted for the 5 deal and I got the Espresso Martini (Espress Ya' Self) which was $3 off. My drink was pretty tasty. We shared the pretzel for $7 which comes with mustard, I also asked for some beer cheese to go with it. My boyfriend got the Nashville Hot Slider $6 which he liked. Overall, not bad deals for Happy Hour.
google avatar

tony s.

Yelp
Unfortunately we were not impressed by the food. The fish and chips was over breaded and very little fish and their Philly cheese had nothing to do with Philly cheesesteak. Who cooks Philly without cheese mixes with the meat? That's the whole flavor of the sandwich. Also their Nashville bites were way too soggy. Their breakfast was way better than dinner experience.
google avatar

Stephani M.

Yelp
Good-ish service, good-ish food. We were sat quickly, at a premium time, that's a plus. We ordered drinks when we sat, and mind you, they checked on us--3 different folks--to say, "oh gosh, where are your drinks?" #idontknoweither We did get our food. It was good. I would say that some spice is needed. I asked for hot sauce, she offered Tabasco or house made--for sure house made! #nope #nothot Anyways the place is clean, service is friendly. Taste is bland.
google avatar

Vicki L.

Yelp
Nice outdoor patio. Friendly and fast service. Easy parking. Tasty salads. Surprised that veggie tacos are not an option on the menu.
google avatar

Stacey H.

Yelp
High end burgers, sandwiches, and salads! They have a little something for everyone. We came during the art and wine festival and sat out on the patio. Service was prompt and friendly. I had the duck banh mi which was a unique take on this sandwich. It was a great size and really enjoyable. I had it with the garlic fries which were delicious. My husband had the Reuben which he loved and my MIL had a salad with salmon. Everyone raved about their meals.
google avatar

Yelp
Service was great, we walked in and was indecisive on where to sit. But ultimately decided to eat outside. Our waitress was great and would request her each time I go back. The food was great and the atmosphere was awesome.

Yelp
I've had a bit of a renaissance with Batch and Brine recently. When I moved here years ago, I was a big fan given the restaurant's family-friendly nature, good cocktails and pretty good food. My love affair hit a lull over the last few years - I felt like the food took a hit. However, it's once again become a regular go-to restaurant for my family in the last few months. I was so excited when I realized that the food has returned to being consistently pretty good. I'm also a huge fan of their happy hour. I love to take my kiddo there for a "date." We order pretty much everything off the happy hour menu, play games and chit-chat. It's the perfect kid date spot. :) In terms of what to order, I'll start with cocktails first. I love a spicy cocktail, so the Serrano Mi Hermano and Strawpeno are my top two favs. They also make a great spicy skinny margarita. (I'll note that they also make boozy milk shakes, which sounds so enticing though I've yet to order one.) For food, I usually get the Nashville hot chicken salad, the fattoush salad or a fried chicken sandwich. We also LOVE their pretzel. As an added bonus, everyone who works at B&B is so friendly and accommodating. Enjoy!

Yelp
Place is good. I'd recommend getting a burger here. Staff is always friendly. I'd recommend going for dinner. Their brunch/breakfast menu seems like an add on they did and it's nothing that special.
google avatar

Aliyah H.

Yelp
Great brunch menu with diverse options on top of traditional American breakfast. The service is fantastic too!
google avatar

Alaya W.

Yelp
Their falafel burger was okay. It was a big party so the service was okay. My fries weee okay. My drink was cool. I will try and come here again without a big party. We were outside so it was a nice day.

Yelp
The Upside Down Pineapple cocktail tasted like dessert in a glass The food was packed with flavor, super satisfying, and definitely worth a repeat visit
google avatar

Sejal C.

Yelp
Love this place for a girls night or double date. Good cocktails and a fun ambiance. Open pretty late (for lafayette!) And solid food. Their sushi burger is my fave. They've got great garlic parm fries. And my kids like their Mac and cheese.
google avatar

Amy N.

Yelp
The food was pretty pricy and didn't blow me away. There was a lot of bread to stuff ratio for the bahn mi and fried chicken. The duck bahn mi was unique and I appreciated the flavors but the fried chicken was a little on the burnt side and didn't feel as flavorful. I'm also usually a big fan of sweet potato fries and while they were good, were a little too thin and crispy for me. I wish they were the width of the regular fries! It was also VERY loud. There were TVs so would be fun to watch games but wow I could barely hear my friends! Servers were attentive and helpful but definitely not a quiet place to eat.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! Kid 1: had the Sierra Burger and really enjoyed it. Not a crumb was left Kid 2: had the brunch chicken and waffles and a milk shake. We just realized we left the to go box and he's so disappointed. Hubby had the Southern Eggs Benedict which was recommended by the waiter. Hubby said it was the best of both worlds, eggs benny and fried chicken. I had the crab sandwich and garlic parm fries. The sandwich as so good. Not fishy at all. Wish there was more garlic on the fries but that the only comment against everyone lunch. The waiter was super nice. Parking was good, metered though. The ambiance was chill. Music wasn't too loud, has tv with football on.

Nice spot for brunch but so packed! We waited probably 20 minutes or so to grab a table for two outside with our dogs. They had a good selection of brunch and general American foods. I went with the burger which came with lots of fries! The burger was had a good bun to patty ratio and was so juicy and meaty. My husband got the country fried steak which was a good portion with lots of sides and gravy
