Seattle's Best Speakeasies, Ranked - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Despite the fact that you may wait an hour to get into Bathtub Gin & Co, the drinks aren’t very good. You can find much better cocktails at other Belltown neighborhood spots like Roquette and Navy Strength. But we can’t argue that this secret bar checks some boxes. It has an alleyway entrance complete with a fancy little wooden door. It has bookcases, tea candles, and more exposed brick than the infamous third house from The Three Little Pigs. If you’re into speakeasies, we can recommend one visit just to check out the dusty basement shelves and some coupe drinks absolutely trashed with Chartreuse." - kayla sager riley, aimee rizzo

Google
Intimate, hidden bar with a solid menu of gin drinks. Staff is friendly and the drinks are good. Fun for a unique night out in an interesting, older building with a real decorative bathtub inside. Definitely feels like a taste of Old Seattle.

Google
Bathtub Gin & Co is a hidden little speakeasy in Belltown with a cozy, vintage vibe. The entrance is easy to miss, but once you’re in, it’s all dim lights, great cocktails, and a chill atmosphere. The bartenders know their stuff and the gin-forward menu is solid. Perfect for a date or quiet night out..just get there early, it fills up fast

Matt

Google
We had a great time at Bathtub Gin & Co. Real Speakeasy feel, the entrance is in the alley behind the building, right after all the dumpsters. Vibe inside is great, and we had an amazing waitress. Cocktails were equally amazing. they even had a few good mocktail options.

Google
I’ve had one of the best gin cocktails in a long time. Romantic and cozy atmosphere, great cocktail menu and wide liquor selection. Somewhat difficult to find if never been there, 😅

Rick Hadsall

Google
Fun little speakeasy style bar tucked away in an alley by garbage cans (not their fault!) - but the drinks are good!

Google
This used to be my favorite spot in Seattle. The drinks, atmosphere, and vibe is top tier. Over the last year the service has changed dramatically. While the front door guy is nice and charismatic, there is a waitress with an interesting attitude who I won't name or describe that others in reviews have complained about. 3 guests I brought on different occasions have mentioned it too. It's crazy how a bad interaction can change up the vibe for a whole night. For now, I'll have to find a new go-to in Seattle/belltown.

Mónica Ramírez Castro

Google
Great atmosphere and a really nice staff, but unfortunately, the cocktails were disappointing. I went with friends, and all four of us agreed that every drink we tried was pretty bad. Such a shame because the place itself is beautiful. Wouldn’t recommend based on the drinks.

Google
Now This is a true speakeasy!! It was not easy to find and the aesthetics are spot on! This was what I was looking for!! Made me feel like I was a flapper in the roaring 20’s! It’s located in a historical building, the interior walls are lined with brick, there’s an upstairs and downstairs bar, no reservations needed but you will have to wait in line which wasn’t very long. It’s a live and happenin spot playing 90’s music. The customer service was great and the drinks super strong which is what I like! I will definitely be coming back to this spot!

Yelp
Came here unexpectedly on a Monday night and were welcomed by the gentleman behind the bar who said we could set anywhere and he would take care of us. We ended up downstairs since there was nowhere to sit upstairs. It's a very dark and dim place so it's honestly perfect for vibes or even a date. Our bartender whipped up some great cocktails for us based off of preference which was a nice touch. He was funny and sarcastic which was right down our alley. Would absolutely recommend this place to others. Be aware that the entrance is in an alley way next to trash and rats LOL.

Yelp
After a night at Buckley's for the NBA finals, we decided to balance out our sophistication with a speakeasy. Yelp made it fairly easy to find this spot, tucked away just behind the corner of Blanchard and 2nd. The door picture helped a lot. We arrived to find the upstairs bar area full of lively patrons but found a cozy spot on the sublevel tucked away under the stairs. We were amused to hear the eclectic mix of Chris Isaac's wicked game and Janis Joplin's Nothing Left To Lose on the speakers as we asked our server to deliver us "vodka forward" and "old fashioned with a berry/maple/walnut twist" cocktails. Shortly thereafter we received said drinks, my wife confirming the vodka forward approach to her martini while I, somewhat sadly, and perhaps due to my own deficiencies, tasted a rather basic old fashioned. The irregular block of ice was the highlight, while my palent was unable to pick up the cited notes. All in all, a fun experience, perhaps springing for an elevated bourbon next time will help my cocktail hot the spot.

Yelp
Very cool spot hidden in an alley in seattle. If you like gin, they're full of it! Our cocktails were well balanced, and I really enjoyed the spicy ness of the peppercorn in mine. Service was attentive and drinks were quick! We arrived right after they opened, and were sat right away. But this place is tiny! So if they fill up you may wait a bit.

Yelp
Very cool concept, but getting here is SKETCHY. In the alley where the door is located, there were drug deals happening and lots of unsafe activity. I understand the concept of a speakeasy, but it did not look like a safe alley for going to a bar.
google avatar

Yelp
Lowkey speak easy with an extensive list of gins (and other spirits). Friendly bartenders with approachable attitudes and good recommendations. They have everything from sweet, bitter, balanced, whatever you want and how you want it. Inside is small and first come first serve. The later it gets the less chance of finding a seat. Last time I came in, I was an early bird (Around 7:30pm on a week night) so was able to find seating.

Yelp
We popped in here for a quick drink after dinner on a Friday night. We didn't have a reservation, but around 10pm there was no wait and we were able to head right in and grab seats at the bar upstairs. The place is small and has a cozy, speakeasy feel with dim lighting and an intimate vibe. I had a Hugo spritz, which was refreshing and light, and then we were on our way. It's worth stopping in for a drink if you're nearby but I wouldn't go out of your way.

Yelp
One of our friends found this little gem of a speakeasy for us to visit, and thankfully we went because it was such a cool experience! When you get to the location, it's an apt building and tells you to go around back. This is when, I'd say the experience starts, bc as you walk around, you end up in an ally at a back door that could seem to be considered to some as a bit sketchy! But we were committed to the cause! So in we went, and were greeted and seated promptly. Definitely more of an original speakeasy type vs the fancy dolled up ones you see all over IG, which made this that much better! We were seated in a dimly lit room that had some great music going that was a very chill, yet upbeat vibe. Joe was our rad server for the evening, and was great at recommending some cocktails for us based on our alcohol preferences. I opted for the old fashion which was a great choice for a delicious nightcap. If you find your way being in downtown Seattle, definitely give it a go and enjoy!

Yelp
We came to Bathtub Gin as a party of 2 at 6:30 PM on a Saturday night. We waited about 20 minutes to come inside, but it was worth the wait! The inside is cozy and intimate, and there are 2 levels. We were seated in the bottom level. We ordered two drinks, the "Mama and the Judge" which was very tiki flavored, it did not last long. I ordered a "Dealer's Choice"-what brought me here in the first place was hearing that Bathtub Gin has a large collection of gins, so I requested a citrusy and gin surprise. I love being able to sometimes mix it up and have the bartender choose what they want to make for me, and especially for a bar like this, it was the right choice! I would recommend coming right away when they open so you can be guaranteed a seat! This bar is a wonderful experience, but be prepared to wait awhile before getting in.

Yelp
This was our first time at a speakeasy and this was a great introduction. We were taken into a dark and sketchy alleyway to find a wooden door. The bar took me back to the Shrek 2 movie. Made me feel like I'm at a small, traditional, old-timey, classic, prohibition-era bar but also the ambience of Shrek. It was so cool. The bartender really took care of us and gave us great recommendations, even for those of us who don't like gin. The vibes, drinks, and everything was perfect to end the night. We were very lucky to be placed at the bar because I do believe that is the best place to be.

Yelp
Have been wanting to try this place for awhile some friends and I happen to be in the area for dinner and one of my friends suggested stopping in here for a night cap. We had a table downstairs dark space but so much character. The tim ceiling and lighting as you walk into the entrance. We loved our server so knowledgeable about the cocktails and the brands if gin. was great assisting my friend at selecting the perfect gin for his negroni. Attentive and friendly let my friend have a taste of the Gin she suggested for the Negroni on its on which we appreciated.

Yelp
This place gives somewhat speakeasy feels as it can be fairly easy to walk past this place without noticing, especially when it's not busy. It's located in the alley between 1st and 2nd Ave, and on a warmer day, you will be walking past rancid trash to get to the destination. The unfavorable exterior transforms into a somewhat classy and traditional ambience inside. The bar has upstairs bar and downstairs table seating, so take your pick since it's walk-in only and they take no reservations. I went here on a Tuesday after dinner around 7pm and I was surprised to find I was the only one there. I opted to sit at the bar for more interactions with the bartender and see their craft. I got the Aria de Capo which drinks like a dirty martini but a bit more citrusy from the lemons used. I was open to try and know it wasn't really my thing, but it's better than a traditional dirty martini. I also got the Mama and the Judge that is sweeter and more balanced. It's more tropical and much easier to drink. The straw they gave was very fragile so be careful, but the bartender was nice to give a handful of straws to pick in case the straw breaks midway. Service is good as the bartender had a good balance of having conversation versus making drinks and doing other housekeeping stuff. Overall, this is a decent bar in Belltown, a timely classic. I'd like to see more gin based drinks in the menu given this named as a gin bar, especially given the wide selection of gins on deck!

Yelp
A speakeasy is a MUST when traveling. This was hidden in an alley which my friends and boyfriends were all skeptical of but I was sure of it! We entered through the wooden door after knocking and was immediately seated down. The area was simple and cute. The drinks we got were STRONG but we still enjoyed it. Wish we saw the bar upstairs though!

Yelp
Unpretentious speakeasy with great cocktails in Belltown. It is tucked away in the back alley of 2nd Ave. We usually stop here for drinks after dinner. The drinks are always great and the bartender is friendly. I had the never heard of escanaba from the menu and my boyfriend described what kind of drinks he preferred, and the bartender worked his magic. Both our drinks were well balanced. This would be a great spot for a date night or solo date.

Yelp
This place was good. Nice hole in the wall small location. If I'm ever in Seattle again, not sure if I would come here. It is in an alley and that alley smells very bad. Cottentail there sister bar was nice though.
google avatar

Damini A.

Yelp
Its a true speakeasy where you can enter from behind the alley. The staff is super friendly and the place has a nice vibe. The cocktails are good but they dont offer any food or appetizers. Recommend this place!
google avatar

Vince U.

Yelp
Cute speakeasy in Seattle where you enter through an alley. Although it's small, there's plenty of room for a group of 4-6 people in the downstairs rooms. The drinks were great and the service was good. I highly recommend checking out this Belltown Seattle gem.
google avatar

Yelp
Tucked away in an alley, Bathtub Gin is a hidden gem worth seeking out. This small speakeasy has a cozy, intimate vibe and serves up some of the best gin drinks I've had. I tried the Dotting Dottie, a delightful cocktail with elderberry mixed with gin--it was perfectly balanced, refreshing, and just the right amount of sweet. If you're a gin lover, this place is a must-visit!

John J.

Yelp
After reading through these comments, it's clear that Bathtub Gun is deleting not so stellar reviews.

Yelp
Cozy ambience and great cocktails. Personalized service and very knowledgeable bartender

Vivien L.

Yelp
Bathtub Gin is a local favorite because it's one of few cocktail lounges in the area that stays open until 2! The entrance is in an alley and typically has a wait. There are two levels, one upstairs is a standing room only at the bar, and then seats downstairs. This bar is not great for larger groups (I'd say more than 4 people in a single party would be hard to accommodate). The tables downstairs are very close together and I found myself having to talk over people for my date to even hear me. Ambiance is very moody speakeasy, not modern at all. If that's your jam, definitely recommend stopping in!
google avatar

Yelp
Great little speakeasy with an amazing mixologist, cool atmosphere, and delicious and unique drinks.
google avatar

Michelle R.

Yelp
Great experience! Love the atmosphere, very cozy, with dim lighting and very low key. There was a wait outside when we visited. We had a party of 4 and they did great working us in. We had a few parties of 2 skip ahead of us, but we got a great table. I've visited about 10 years ago and recently. It's worth the time to check it out!

Yelp
Drinks - didn't have any food (not sure they have anything beyond small bar snacks) but the drinks were EXCELLENT. This place is worth the hype and the bartenders are phenomenal. I tried all the things. We got way more drinks than planned because they were all good. The menu changes regularly though so you won't get bored when (not if) you go back. Service - Our bartender was Matt and I remember him and his name and how hard he was working, while still making conversation and checking in and making all the drinks for damn near the whole place. He was awesome at making menu recommendations or going off script if you asked. He was super friendly with everyone - we saw him say goodbye to actual IRL friends and didn't feel that he treated us (or anyone else) any less cordially honestly. That's a special kind of hospitality. Ambiance - unlike some of the bars labeled "speakeasy" this bar is absolutely decorated and works very much like a speakeasy. The interior is very small and cozy but feels like you're in someone's basement at an illicit 20's bootlegger. It managed being a modern take on a classic concept very well. I recommend sitting at the bar for groups or conversation or downstairs for date night if you want more intimate vibes. I think this may be one of my favorite bars in Seattle and definitely one of my favorites in Belltown, and we will be back.

Yelp
Bathtub Gin is one of those places that I take any of my visiting friends from outside Seattle. It has such a fun, nerdy, yet incredibly chic and sexy vibe. It's thrillingly tucked away in a parking lot area in downtown so keep an eye out - it's easy to miss. The bartenders kill it every time with their wonderful concoctions. I've tried a Death Star & a Han Bonita. My heart was with the Han Bonita.
google avatar

Yelp
Great spot, fantastic drinks, authentic speakeasy vibes, and easy access to some killer Italian food. Only downside is side is you get all the cooking smells upstairs from the nearby restaurant kitchens. It was also really hot upstairs. We would have loved to stay longer but its a small spot that can be busy and a bit too warm.
google avatar

Christina G.

Yelp
It was the coldest night of 2024. We were visiting and quickly cut down an alley. I think with the wind chill we were looking at 10 degrees. So we get to the door. Quickly opened it and was quickly met with a chest bump back outside haha! Not literally but the door man guards that door really well. He checked our IDs and quickly seated us by the electric fire pit. We scanned the menu for some drinks. Ordered our drinks and waited. As we waited a few larger groups came in and seated on the same room. My companion was not a fan of his hoity toity drink. But he's easy. Vodka and soda or Jack n coke kind of guy. The appreciation of the fancy drinks does not exist. Now if you are an IPA drinker you will also enjoy this place. I'm not an IPA drinker or cocktails. But I found a great cider. We may have stayed longer but one of the gentleman in our area of one of those groups had their arm pits screaming at us. So we had to exit. The finding of the door is one of the best parts of this experience. Just go and enjoy it!

Yelp
What an amazing whole in the wall! I sat upstairs at the tiny bar and enjoyed my drinks and the atmosphere. The bartender was efficient and please t to chat with and listen to him chat with others. The selection is amazing! A lot of good gins and whiskeys are in hand to either revisit old ones or try new ones. Totally worth stopping in and waiting for a table. Not a place for large groups but a perfect solo or date night stop!
google avatar

Rickey M.

Yelp
A tiny place with bigtime cocktails! For being born and raised in WA I've actually never been here until this last trip home. Lucked out on a Friday night and was able to snag a table for 3. When I say this place is tiny, it is tighttttt, so be ready to rub shoulders with the table next to you. The cocktails are reasonably priced at $15 a piece. I forgot the name of the drink I got but it was the one with the rootbeer, and I've gotta say they somehow made the strongest cocktail ever finish off with the smoothest root beer finish, and how they managed is a feat of its own. I'm a fan of stiff drinks, but a well made cocktail with different levels to them brings you to an experience. The Drinks here are that: An Experience. Definitely worth a stop if you're in Seattle and love a good cocktail.
google avatar

Charlie T.

Yelp
A small and cozy speakeasy type of bar. They had the main bar on top with a handful of seats and then the basement area. The place has some gin recommended cocktails as well as other craft cocktails.
google avatar

Phil G.

Yelp
I must pen a negative review concerning my experience at Bathtub Gin late on a Thursday night in the middle of September 2022. A friend and myself, two older dudes from the neighborhood, stopped in and sat at the bar. The place was crowded, and the staff was not in anticipation of shutting down, so that wasn't the excuse. Surly and rude, the bartender was overtly hostile for no apparent reason. Most of the patrons were young couples, and the younger barkeep was entertaining a woman at the bar, but I could not ascertain why he was disdainful of our presence. My friend ordered a Japanese whiskey, and I had my usual vodka and seltzer. That also set the bartender off, as if mixing my drink was beneath him. When I asked the location of the bathroom, it was as if I asked him to change my catheter. Holy crap, I hope he doesn't treat his parents with such resentment. He may have ruined my experience at Bathtub Gin forever, and I'll doubt if I ever return. We had a blast drinking at Belltown Provisions and Phocentric Pacific Time prior to our discomfort at Bathtub Gin. There are too many bars in the neighborhood to return to an establishment with such a haughty attitude.
google avatar

Dillon M.

Yelp
The best part of the experience is the space. The service was perfectly fine and our server was attentive. The drinks....were fine? I had the hanky panky, and I would not order it again (and this is someone who loves gin and fernet, so idk what happened--two others agreed). My partner's drink was a riff on an old fashioned and was very sweet (again, we expected some given the drink he ordered). Would pop in for a beer or wine but not excited to return for a cocktail, which seems to be their whole point.
google avatar

Sherry G.

Yelp
If you love speakeasies, then you have to check this place out. It's in a back alley, so it's a little hard to find (and I was glad I was with friends), but the combination of a helpful stranger and a bouncer out front helped us find the place. I ordered the Fuzz Blossom, a gin drink that had a sweet, floral taste (though not too sweet). The place has a great ambience, though it can feel a bit small and harder to socially distance. Our server was really nice and helped me choose my drink. Upon being asked about their recommendation between the Fuzz Blossom and the Diamond Hands cocktail, they mentioned the Fuzz Blossom was sweeter, which is why I chose it. ECO NOTES Straws: Disposable bamboo straws. Drink cups: Made out of glass. Water cups: Also glass cups, so you might say they stay pretty "glassy" ;)
google avatar

Catherine M.

Yelp
A really cool spot for drinks. We got there probably later than we should have and had to wait in a little line but were able to get in and get seated within 20 minutes. Had some really fun drinks on the menu and cool seating arrangements. Service was also great and really impressive for the amount of tables one server had.
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
Still a great stop for cocktails. It seems like they don't do the "feeling lucky random cocktail" thing but their options are still great. Good stop before hitting rest of bell town for food and drinks.
google avatar

Michelle Z.

Yelp
I loveeeeee gin and was super pumped to come here. My friends who didn't like gin still appreciated this place and their cocktails, and they received guidance from the waitress on what to order. I would've enjoyed this speakeasy a lot more on a chill weekday rather than a Friday night. My friends and I arrived around 10:30PM on a Friday, and we waited outside in line for approximately an hour. The smaller your group, the more likely you'll be admitted in. Our group had 4 people. 1-3 person groups were admitted before us. Don't try to sneak in because the bouncer will kick you out. Also saw some people get kicked out for being too rowdy, I think. Service: Once our group was admitted, we had to wait in a corner where a waitress took our orders. She was helpful and knowledgeable about gin. I asked for more floral gins and she listed out 5 to choose from. You can also order other liquors; they had Ardbec 10-year old whiskey Cocktail: I ordered the Fuzz Blossom and replaced the default gin base (forgot which one - it's their well gin) for the Mirabeau. I originally wanted the Herb & Garden Elderflower gin, but they were out :( Fuzz Blossom is subtly sweet and very floral. Ambiance: Once seating was available, we were shown in a brick room with leather couches and chairs and other Victorian-esque decor. We shared the room with other people. You don't need to talk to others, but since my group was feeling friendly as well as two other groups, we ended up intermingling with each other which was super fun! We bonded over the music being played (solely Kendrick Lamar) and Australian accents.

Yelp
Loved the vibes of this speakeasy! Back alley entrance was only slightly sketchy :) The guy at the door seated us upstairs shortly at a high table adjacent to the bar. The bartender and waitress were great and recommended two great after-dinner cocktails - especially loved rose through a sidewalk! This spot had a great evening ambiance for a second stop in a date night. Would definitely come back to try more!
google avatar

Yelp
I loved this place! Service was excellent. Loved the vibe and how dark it is. Drinks were delicious. I ordered their tamarind drink, highly recommend. I can't wait to come back.

Yelp
This place is a hole in the wall in an alley in Belltown. As we walked up, the door was opened for us and we did not have a reservation but they found us two seats at the bar. We stayed for 2 cocktails each and had an engaging conversation with the bartender. This place has a vintage vibe and would be great for impressing out of town guests with a unique experience.
google avatar

Rach C.

Yelp
Drinks are so great. It's located in the alley so it's a bit hard to find, but love how it's private and fun. I really liked the ambiance. To be fair, it is really small and tight but intimate at the same time.
google avatar

Annie N.

Yelp
A cool speakeasy--the following reasons made it a speakeasy for me: the entrance is in a back alleyway where as a first timer you'll likely wonder if you're at the right spot, the inside lighting is dim, there are 3 levels to this place although the bottom floors are small, and they have a pretty great cocktail menu. We had a party of 4 and got there around 9pm on a Saturday and stood in line behind another group in front of us and got in after about a 15-20 minute wait. No reservation or password was required. I wasn't sure how the process of getting in would be since it varies for each speakeasy, but this one was a great one if you're looking for a spot you don't have to plan too much ahead of time for. We never got a chance to see the top level that has the bar since we were led to our table that was in a small room downstairs tucked away. Our table ordered varies drinks (multiple whiskey and gin drinks) and the only drink name I can remember was Death Star. It was a good spot for us to catch up with our friends over some drinks at last minute notice.
google avatar

Wendi K.

Yelp
Cozy speakeasy in Belltown. Came on a Saturday evening - there was about a 30 minute wait. But you don't really want to wait because the "wait" is in a dark alley lol. There is a bouncer guarding the door. Cocktails are $15 each. They are creative and well made like any quality speakeasy.
google avatar

Julie D.

Yelp
Cool speakeasy vibe in Belltown. The entrance is down a kinda sketchy looking alleyway, and there was a bit of a waitlist for us to get in. Luckily it's in a great location, and we just went to a different bar across the street to wait it out. We were seated downstairs in what used to be the old living room. The entire place used to be a house, and there are mini bathtub Easter eggs everywhere, including a giant full size one in the main room! It's split in two now, and you can sit in either half as a seat. The living room area is meant to be like one big family gathering I guess, because the bouncer made us talk to and get to know one another, as he said that upheld the spirit of the place. I think most of the groups in the room this time were pretty shy, so that didn't work out too well, but something to note for other introverts looking to get seated here! The drinks were fine but nothing memorable that another bar couldn't easily recreate. The ambience is definitely unique and the story behind the speakeasy is super cool. It's fun to explore the house afterwards too, but it is a pretty small and cramped location.

Yelp
Definitely a unique experience coming here to Bathtub Gin -- the entrance is literally located in an alley, so it took us a bit to find it (thankfully they do have a small plaque with their name on it, so you'll know it when you see it). No password or anything special to get in, just knocked to see if they had room inside. The inside is super super small with three levels (you enter at the middle of the stairs), so everyone is seated very close to each other. There was a "bouncer" or staff member standing at the door or sitting just inside when they are at capacity. The first time we visited, we had to wait outside for a good 30 minutes before another party left and we were allowed in (and they let us stand in a corner first before being seated at the bar). Simple and unique cocktails menu, though I imagine you can likely ask for something custom if you wanted as well. Lots of people both on weekend and weekday evenings, so its a popular spot. Tip well as the bartender was definitely busy the entire night. Worth a visit if you can find the door!

Yelp
This is a cute hidden place for a drink. The bartender was very knowledgeable and I had some great conversations about his experience making drinks. The prices aren't cheap, but I appreciate that the bartender makes each drink with care and can adjust certain things to your liking. It's very lowkey, and it was a nice experience. The place is a bit small, so you may have to wait. Their menu isn't the most extensive, but the bartender can make you a drink of your choice if they have the ingredients.

Yelp
Bathtub Gin truly has speakeasy vibes -- it's situated in the back alleyway next to a parking lot. They've done a lot with the limited space that that they have. There's a small attic area with a full bar, almost no standing room. The basement is a little squished, but drinks are good enough so you won't notice it much. The servers are quite friendly. When we went, unfortunately there was a car doing burnouts in the back. The basement got really smoky and everyone cleared it. The staff were nice and allowed us to move tables / stand in a different room until the smoke cleared. Overall would come back to try other drinks!

Yelp
Didn't have any food, but the service was nice. The place was underground, felt like we wete inn a illegal bar in New York in 60s.

Yelp
Really cute intimate spot but 3 stars bc the drinks were not great for either of us. I loved the brick interior, the low lighting, the small rooms but the drinks were not impressive. My husband and I tried 2 drinks and didn't order another round
