"A tropical chic restaurant debuts in Rego Park with hearty Indonesian and Malaysian fare. It’s not so much fusion, two distinct menus (and chefs) offer the traditional dishes of each cuisine. Surabaya, Indonesia native, Joana Cravianho, formerly of Bamboo Ya and Awang, offers up roti canai with hot fluffy roti; chicken satay with rice cakes for sopping up the flavorful peanut sauce; and a multi-faceted noodle dish with ground chicken, slabs of barbecued chicken, meatballs, fried wonton, and bok choy. The Malaysian menu includes nasi lemak with curry chicken and four versions of vegetable belacan." - Caroline Shin, Eater Staff

Have been here a couple times before and were good. On our most recent visit, maybe not as satisfied with some of the dishes. The Batik fried chicken breast was too dry. Beef Rendang was served on the dry side as well, with a lot of shredded meat which I didn’t mind bec flavorful but was hardly touched. The milkfish was good, filipino-style marinade, but pricey. Liked the Beef chow fun but was a bit spicy for some which was unexpected, esp. the kids. Fried calamari, the crab and salty fish fried rice, kangkung were some of the good dishes.

Excellent Authentic Indonesian Chicken Noodles “Mie Ayam”, superb and warm service by Donna, definitely a place to come back and recommended food to taste around NY!

Blessed to live in a city that's home to the peoples of the world and their wonderful cuisines. Malaysian/Indonesian this week. Yanti is a friendly hostess! Food is great and lunch specials are priced just right!

Very happy to find this place! Excellent authentic Indonesian and Malaysian food in a great location. I came in for lunch and everything was clean and well taken care of. Staff was very friendly and seemed very enthusiastic in talking about the various items on the menu. I had tea and coffee as well as several other recommendations. Everything was excellent and I cannot complain about the process. The sambal hot sauce is very spicey yet I kept finding myself putting it on all my food because it was so good! I cannot wait to come back!

Excellent Malaysian/Indonesian dishes in a local neighborhood setting. Beautiful interior decor. Start with the Calamari, Vegetable Spring Rolls and Fried Tofu. Chicken Curry with Potato is outstanding! Excellent as part of Nasi Lemak but we crave more so we get as main dish too. Perfect with Crab Fried Rice. Chunky crab meat crab meat over fluffy fried rice and eggs. Lady Finger Belacan round out a balanced fare. El Cendol dessert is yummy with Iced Coffee. A great addition to Rego Park foodscape!

Finally really good Malaysian/ Indonesian food in NYC!!! I'm still mad at myself for not getting some food to take out after we were stuffed. Inspired by another friend's glowing recommendation, ten of us gathered to feast up. First of all, the staff at Batik are lovely and gracious. Our waiter showed us photos of dishes on his phone and gave very thorough explanations of the food. The food was DELICIOUS with complex flavors and varying levels of heat. They even brought us a few different sambals and chili sauces. WHAT WE ATE: Roti canai** Taro spring rolls Gado Gado Beef Rendang** Hainanese chicken** Char kway teow** Crispy shrimp stuffed tofu** Fermented Tempeh Okra Belacan** String bean, okra, stink bean & eggplant belacan Fried Milk Fish with chili mango Water spinach Indonesian Fruit Cocktail** Pandan noodle dessert **Indicates our favorite dishes Must go back for the meatball soup, nasi lemak and the chow fun! Go to Rego Park it's down the block from the r train.

So happy to have great authentic Indonesian/Malay food in Rego Park! We were party of 5 and we ordered bunch of food to share. Great portions, nice atmosphere, friendly service, The Head Chef Joana even say hi to our table and checked on us. Highly Recommended!

Nice, new restaurant in Rego Park. The Hainan Chicken was pretty nice looking and well-flavored. Service was pretty fast too (around 10 minutes for 2 orders). Price for the lunch special is pretty fair. Very good and will likely return again.

Yelp
Amazing Thai Food and Beautiful Atmosphere! This new Malay - Indonesian restaurant is a must-visit! The space is gorgeous, with a warm and inviting vibe. I had the crispy fish, and it was absolutely perfect--flavorful, fresh, and beautifully presented. Sandra was friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. Look at the pictures and see for yourself. This place deserves to be packed! Don't miss it!

Yelp
We tried to get there during the lunch special and when we got there, we were shocked that the restaurant was empty. In addition, there was also some funky smell. We thought the restaurant was closed. The staff who came to greet us escorted us to the table area and told us that we could choose any tables. But all tables were not clean. There were sticky leftover sauce on the table. I told the server and he cleaned so we could sit down. The staff who waited our table was nice but it didn't feel like he was a server. It felt like he was a delivery guy or something. But friendly. For lunch special, there was nothing special about it to be honest. The price was not special and no side condiment like soup or salad accompanied with like other restaurants. We gave a shot ordering 3 lunch specials to share. The menu was also not too good. They updated the menu by marking off the items or rewriting price over the menu, not just one but several spots. We ordered: -Char Kuay Teaw with shrimps: $12.95. The appearance looked good. The flavor was okay but the portion was the smallest fried noodle I've ever seen. I shared with my husband and we literally got 3 bites each and that was it. -Nasi Lemak: $12.95. It was okay. The portion was not big either but it came along with different toppings. -Chicken Satay over rice: $10.95. The satay was pretty good. The peanut sauce was not. We got 3 skewers with a small bowl of rice. To me, this was pricey. There are many restaurants in nyc where you can find lunch specials. We ate everything but still left the restaurant hungry. We usually order 3 lunch specials when we go to lunch specials at other restaurants and we always leave full with some leftovers. This is our first time that we left hungry still and the price is quite expensive. The decor in the restaurant is good. It looks like they have a sushi bar but they use it for a storage piling plates and silverware as a server station. The entrance has a mini area that looks like a bar area but it was empty and no alcohol. So, I assume that they use it for something else. Overall, I think this restaurant had a good layout to start but it didn't seem that they used it properly. It is now super empty that I feel like they are about to close down or something. The ambiance is pretty weird from the way I see their operation. In addition to the price, I am not sure if I will go back again. I don't feel like I get the quality or quantity of the food that I pay for.

Yelp
First time here with the fam and had a great time. I was a bit disappointed when our waiter Sogi mentioned some of the dishes were no longer available however I was still glad I was able to still order my Indonesian staples. The place did not disappoint at all. Everything was very yummy and service was top notch. Order the chicken satay, gado gado salad and curry puff and you can't go wrong.

Yelp
I ordered take out from here for the first time yesterday and again today for their lunch special. Their food is really good! I got their Ayam Mie Komplit (chicken noodle) and their Hainanese chicken. Both were delicious and a must try!! For the lunch special I got today, I tried their satay chicken skewers over rice and Nasi Lemak, which were also delicious. For my halal eaters, I called ahead of time and the server confirmed that their meat was halal, which was great news for me cause I was looking for a halal restaurant near me. I haven't personally visited the restaurant yet, but my husband did to pick up the food. He said it was nice, clean and big, but was surprised to see it was empty. Since the food is so good, I really hope more people start coming because they deserve more traction! Also, the servers are pretty nice over the phone, so all around five stars for now!

Yelp
I tried this spot a few weeks back and it was pretty good. It's nice to have another Indonesian restaurant open in Rego Park/Elmhurst vicinity, especially one that is so easy to find. The restaurant is really chic and modern, and has relaxed vibes. The waiters were very friendly and got our food our fairly quickly. We tried the Roti Canai and had the House Special Fried Rice and the Char Kway Teow for entrees. I also grabbed a coffee. The food was decent and could have used just a tad more seasoning to really give it that kick. But, it was delicious and we finished it. I loved how strong my coffee was - I'm a fan of Malaysian and Vietnamese coffee so this was right up my alley. Overall, this is a decent spot to visit if you're in the area and craving Indonesian cuisine, or if you're looking for a new spot to try!

Yelp
Indo/Malay fusion - lets give this a try! Food did not disappoint. We came early for dinner and there was no one else but my party. The menu was not large and there is a good amount of selections. Curry puff - lots of good filling and curry was delicious l. Not oily and not thick Pastry Roti - small portion and it's good crunch. Roti dipping sauce is different than typical Malaysian restaurant and it's actually better. Beef randang - tender but a bit dry, great flavors Shrimp sambal - you can adjust spicy level if you wish and I opted for mild and it was perfect. Gave plenty of shrimp with veggies and a side of rice Kangkung - thid veggie dish has shrimp paste and I'm not sure big of shrimp paste at all, but you don't taste it that it punches you in the face. It was cooked just right, not too soggy and not burnt.

Yelp
It's nice to have a local Indonesian/Malaysian restaurant near my home. The service is quick and the staff are attentive. The food is very authentic. Will be back!

Yelp
What a nice restaurant. I know that this place is pretty new as they have grand opening flags at the front, and not many reviews are posted. There's ample seating at the restaurant, so I doubt you need to make reservations. The service here is really great too. They can describe the food well, so I liked that and show pictures too. The servers are very attentive, and the food comes out in a timely fashion, too. We ordered some appetizers such as the Roti (which we ordered three of bc it was very yummy) and calamari. One entree, which was the boneless hainese chicken with rice since there weren't many dishes that wasn't fried it came with this soup and two sauces too. Last but not least, the dessert called es tesler, which is better than what I expected bc it had strawberry milk with ice cubes, fruit, and jelly inside. I would go back to try other

Yelp
Batik is a new Malaysian Indonesian restaurant which just opened in Rego Park. 10 of us dined on a weekday evenings, and we were pleasantly surprised. The food was packed with flavor; using fresh ingredients. This was wonderful home cooking! OUR MENU (shared by 5): - Gado Gado Salad (Indonesian salad w.Peanut Sauce) $11: Terrific. Loved the peanut sauce. - Mie Ayam Komplit (Indonesian ground chicken noodle dish) $15: Great dish; packed with layered flavors. This dish also came with a bowl of soup; you can either pour it into the bowl of noodles or have the soup on its own We kept the soup separate. A must have. - Malaysian Chix Curry w.Potatoes $23: good curry; pure comfort food. - Malaysian Beef Rendang $21.95: good but I've had better at other places. The meat wasn't as tender nor flavorful as I'd like. - Malaysian Lady Fingers w.Belacan $18: Good but the portion size was small. The okra had a nice crunch/snap to it. Belacan sauce was delicious. - Rice: complimentary with each entree (but not with salads, noodles or veg/ side dishes). Customer service and hospitality were so warm and welcoming! They really cared about what you thought about the food. We all loved the food and would definitely come back to try other menu items. Recommended! Parking: Street parking is a little challenging, so leave a little extra time to look for a spot.

Yelp
The service is bad. My boyfriend and I had dinner here tonight and let's just say- it's a 1 and done. The place was busy being that it was Friday and it was 8:30 pm. We were walked to our table and it hadn't been serviced yet as leftover crumbs and spilled food was still on the table. I didn't automatically red flag it as I've managed hotels and restaurants in the past and understand these things do happen. Eventually we were sat and our table was wiped down while we were sitting. Our menus took 7 minutes to be handed to us. Again, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and my boyfriend and I looked at the pictures of the food prior to deciding our order. We ordered. And this is where it really solidified for us to NEVER to return again. Prior to our waitress taking our order we mentioned wanting the fried calamari as our starter and the Indonesian Fruit cocktail as our starter. The fruit cocktail took 15 minutes to arrive and we never received the fried calamari. I ordered the Malaysian Curry Chicken with potato with Jasmine Rice, and the four varieties balacan. My boyfriend ordered the sizzling black pepper beef and the Mia Ayam Kompit. They absolutely have one cook. We were seated at the table right outside the kitchen and had view and can hear everything that was going on. My Malaysian Curry Chicken with Potatoes came first. No rice had been brought out. Also I had my 2 year old grandson with us and no sense of urgency on the staff's behalf that children are there to have dinner. We reminded our waitress that our rice was missing and she said it's coming. It was finally brought. Then the Belacan dish. We were starving and my boyfriend's order came out a full 20 minutes after mine. I served my grand baby but waited until his food was brought out so we could dine together. Food is ok. I don't like writing negative reviews- but as I stated earlier. I have managed both FOH and BOH and bartended in the past. If it's a Friday- or weekend, you schedule coverage accordingly. Thus the poor review. Satay in Flushing and New Pinang in Forest Hills offer the same cuisine and the service is professional and friendly. As I mentioned earlier, for us it's a 1 and done. Living right in this neighborhood and excited to try the new place left much to be desired. I do not recommend this place.

Kelly Y.

Yelp
New Malaysian and Indonesian place in the neighbourhood so I knew I had to drag my open minded husband to try because we just had to know whether it's going to live up to its standards!! Ambiance def that for date night or a catch up so if you're looking for a date spot.. this could be it! Staff are Indonesian so if you're looking for authenticity.. this is it! They're also very friendly and will explain the menu to you if you have any questions. It was hard to not order the entire menu but husband got the hainese chicken, I got the Batik combo (crispy chicken over rice) and Mee Komplit which is noodles with veggies, meatballs, wonton and chicken. Everything was so so good. Great flavour and cooked perfectly. Drinks were also a great addition.. def recommend the coconut juice! I'm so happy there's a close by SEA restaurant we will be frequenting right around the corner!! 4.1 - I would skip on the chicken satay. I feel it's not charred enough

Yelp
Nice to see a new restaurant in the area. Love the decor - with the bamboo on the ceiling, decorative walls, dim lighting. Large enough dining area with a few tables and some booths towards the back. Mellow music playing. Met with smiles from the staff who were patient and attentive. Nasi Lemak was nicely plated. I like the fried anchovies..wish can be ordered as a side. The curry chicken had a little spice but was a bit mild in flavor. The kale was good, reminded me of a filipino dish of greens cooked in coconut milk. The salted fish and chicken fried rice is very tasty but not too salty. Good for at least 2 people. Bebek combo is fried duck with the same sides as the fried chicken combo. Some kale, stir fried tofu (just small fried pieces. The darker ones we learned are tempeh, but didn't like the taste or texture though), rice and curry egg. The duck is a quarter leg piece- looked dry but I actually liked those crunchy parts; skin was thin and crispy. Satay we got to-go - very small portion of chicken on each of the 3 sticks and looked pale. We realized later that the entree size is more worth it for $5 more. Ese Telur/indonesian fruit cocktail had lychees, jellies, maybe jackfruit strips in milk and ice. Reminded me of Filipino halo-halo but when melted. Still good though. Indonesian hot coffee had a toasted taste to it. Good. Wish it could be iced. Will return for sure. Have lunch specials as well. Located across Rego Center on Queens Boulevard. Meter parking in front but usually very difficult to get a spot along the boulevard. Better to try for a meter spot on the side streets along or on 63rd Drive, or street parking in the residential area.

Derrick L.

Yelp
It was expensive and bland. Had high hopes but lack the flavor pop that other Malaysian restaurants have.

Cyrus T.

Yelp
Food is ok. Service is really slow. Patron next to us also getting restless. We waited for the food for a really long time. I was joking with my family that maybe she should get up and leave like in Hells kitchen. The waiter is nice. He realized that we had waited long and gave us free dessert. Food is ok. I prefer the hainan chicken from other Malaysian restaurant in Flushing. We also ordered chicken satay and belican vegetable dish, which I didnt take pictures of because i was too hungry. The chicken noodle is the best dish among the ones I had ordered. Service 3/5: slow, but they gave us free dessert to make it up. Food 2/5: chicken noodle dish is good, but the rest are meh. Especially when there are so many Indonesian restaurant in elmhurst..

Mel Z.

Yelp
This restaurant served Indonesian and Malaysian food. I ordered Indonesian fried chicken, the chicken was tender, crispy on the outside and full of flavor because they used small size chicken. There's kale, egg gulai and potato. The chicken is amazing, I think it was the best fried chicken in NY area. The service was nice and fast. The restaurant ambiance was clean and nice compared to other Indonesian restaurants. I def would come again to Batik.

Yelp
Had a family dinner here last night. The place has a nice ambiance.. although the bar section is not ready yet and they placed their to go boxes on the drink shelf lol not a great sight when you're munching on your food. We had ordered, Fried Red Snapper, it was crispy but the flesh was still juicy. It comes with a tasty belacan sauce that was mildly spicy and a tad sweet - 8.5 Fried Calamari, it was super crispy but lack of salt. We had to dip in the sauce to get a little bit of flavor- 7 Fried Tofu, crispy and soft on the inside. Not much flavor or seasoning - 6.5 Curry Puff, the skin was too soft and not flaky enough for me. The filling was delicious though - 8.2 Mie Ayam, the noodle was nice and chewy, chicken topping and char siu was ok and the meatball is decent - 8 Kangkung Belacan, it was tasty.. perfect amount of belacan and spice to it - 8 All in all, we had a good time and enjoyed the food. I wish the bar was open though!

Yelp
After picking up a friend from JFK airport, Batik is the Malaysian/ Indonesian place to go to because they open til 10:30. We arrived around 920pm . Parking will be difficult In front because the cones are out. For blocks . I think they are making a movie, so had to park across the street. Meter parking til 10pm. The Thai tea is delicious, the happy soda and coconut juice will crave your sweet tooth. The Cani is made fresh and crispy even at that time of night. The Calamari and fried wonton has a tasty crunch. The only soup left was the meatball, it was warm and had flavors , loved the chow fun. Must try, way different from a take out restaurant. Bone less hainanese chicken was prepared well, but the portion sz was like an appetizer dish. The water spinach was a healthy and crunchy dish . Very good. The waiter is entertaining. And will keep you laughing. The place was empty at that time since it's time to close, but it very decorated inside with a bar . You can bring a date, lunch with coworkers . Will go back again

Yelp
The food is really good, and feels healthier (less greasy & less MSG) than most other Asian Restaurants. Two of my favorite dishes are the ROTI CANAI (very similar to Indian Naan & Curry) & the CRISPY RED SNAPPER. I've had Fried Red Snapper at many Chinese & Columbian Restaurants, but this was the best I've had.

Loriey H.

Yelp
Metered parking in front. The restaurant is long and narrow with clean and modern decor. I appreciated being able to have a conversation as it has a calm family atmosphere. The grilled coconut chicken combo was a burst of many deep flavors and the sauce that was on the chicken and rice (reminded me of lemongrass and was delicious!) Everything in the combo was amazingly good. The menu description doesn't do the food justice! The kale was sautéed with an amazing flavor profile, and the tofu dipped with the sambal was great! Enjoyed being able to add spice according to preference. Get the roti for an appetizer...soft buttery puffy...mmmm! Service was great! Keep in mind it's a small mom and pop joint, there will be a wait because the food is made fresh to order and so worth it. Be patient, be kind and enjoy the great food here!

Riana R.

Yelp
Amazing delicious authentic Indonesian food, beautiful space inside, great service! Great addition to the neighborhood. Bravo!

James L.

Yelp
Dined in once before and tried take out this time. Had the chicken noodle, it was okay. Had the char kway teow this time, but compared to other places like Nyoya, it was relatively plain. Decent quality and would come back again to try something else off the menu. Take out was really fast for lunch so I'll probably do that again.

Rose M.

Yelp
Batik is a fantastic addition to the Rego Park dining scene. With its delicious food, welcoming atmosphere, and friendly service, it's a place I highly recommend. Whether you're a seasoned Southeast Asian food enthusiast or simply looking for a new and exciting culinary experience, this restaurant is sure to impress. Don't miss out - give it a try and see for yourself!

Yelp
I know they've just opened so I'm hoping it was a one-time issue. I went with two other people, and each of our entrees came out at different times (15-20 mins apart). My boyfriend's food came first, then 10 minutes later my mom's, then mine came out 15 mins later. By the time one of us got our food, the other has already finished. I'd rather just wait a little longer to get our food at the same time. Not to mention, people who came after us were getting their entrees already before us. I ordered the chicken curry noodle, which I waited 50 minutes for, to find out that it was the wrong order (I told them noodle, not rice, twice when they took my order). Although I want to be understanding that they just opened, didn't love that I had to wait almost an hour for a noodle soup dish when it was a Tues night (wasn't that busy at the time). The server taking our order didn't seem to care much that they got my order wrong, despite us waiting a while for it. I ended up cancelling my entree because I didn't want to wait another 40+ minutes for it. Thankfully the other server came over to check on us and apologized, giving us a 10% discount. When you come here, just know that you are paying Rego Park prices. The food was very expensive for the portion size (this picture of the beef rendang with 3-4 pieces of beef was $21.95), but it was decent. We were excited to have a local malaysian/indo restaurant but was unfortunately disappointed by the experience. Personally would order delivery at other malay places in Elmhurst for the same price.

Haley H.

Yelp
The food was delicious and the service was great! Lunch special was fairly priced. The ambience was very nice and the restaurant was very clean.

Eve K.

Yelp
Food is delicious but prepare to wait for a little bit if you order a lot. Staff was nice and attentive, seats are good , not crowded and decoration was cute. I will definitely come back. Street meter parking only, but you can also find parking within a couple of blocks.

Willy W.

Yelp
Very good food, authentic Malaysian and Indonesian food, reasonable price. My new fav indo food now.

John S.

Yelp
We ordered take-out. We arrived 40 minutes after we ordered and still had to wait over half an hour while they tended to tables. The food quality was mediocre. We've had Malaysian and Indian food all over NY and NJ for decades, so I think we had an idea what to expect. The $30 pepper beef contained barely 20% beef. $11 for a SINGLE roti was borderline criminal. At least the accompanying curry was decent. The beef chow fun was good but you can get better from a Chinese shop at about half the price. All dishes had a puddle of oil at the bottom. Seeing all these 5-star reviews, I wonder if it could be the difference between dine-in and take-out? I'm sorry for being harsh, but with high prices come high expectations. Those were far from being met.

Budi N.

Yelp
It's finally open, food is good and service is excellent. It's recommended. The chef's and staff are welcome and fun. Try fried chicken batik combo, soto, mie, nasi lemak, and much more to try. Appetizer and dessert is also good. Will come back again. Thank u for coming our neighborhood.

Anonymous M.

Yelp
For a new restaurant in a block of familiar and known restaurants, Batik is new, refreshing and tasty. From the appetizers to main dishes, everything has its own taste. The staff is amazing and helpful. But the food is different and much needed in the neighborhood. Thank you for a awesome experience.
