Exciting Things To Do & Eat In NYC Between March 23rd-29th - New York - The Infatuation

"At BATSU!, you enter through a door camouflaged by a big chicken and turtle mural into the weird and wonderful world of the batsu game. In this Japanese genre of comedy, comedians compete in challenges of all kinds, and the losers receive punishments like electric shocks, paintballs, and a giant egg-smashing chicken. If you’ve seen other Japanese game shows, you know that this place will likely be a good, rowdy time. Food and drink are also available at the venue, or you can always have dinner at one of our favorite restaurants in the East Village. Reserve a spot here." - neha talreja

31 Great Things Do in NYC from a Local! (Updated 2025)

"I had a blast at Batsu!, a hidden dinner-theater tucked down a tiny stairway off Je Bon Sushi in the East Village — it’s a high-energy, four-person improv comedy competition staged like a ridiculous Japanese game show where you can enjoy sushi, sake shots, and slapstick fun; shows run Tuesday–Saturday at 7pm (additional late shows on Friday and Saturday) and tickets start at about $45 USD." - Matthew Kepnes

This place was really fun. Not your typical comedy show where they just make jokes, but more of an entertainment show. They interact with the crowd and invite people over to the stage to either dance with them or be part of the show. The team is really fun and professional. It's the perfect spot for date nights and for bigger groups. Whenever you order sale bomb shots, the server takes a shot with you. They will make sure that you leave that place with a huge smile. Everyone is literally laughing and having a blast in the room.

Google
We celebrated my friend’s birthday here with a group of 12 and had an incredible time! The show and everyone in it were absolutely hilarious. I’m still amazed that most of it was improv! The cast did a fantastic job engaging with the audience, making the experience even more memorable. The food was decent as well. I’d highly recommend this place for a fun and lively group outing!

Google
SOOO fun!!! We went for my birthday and had a great time. It’s really impressive how fast these improv comedians work. I couldn’t stop laughing. Really fun and looking forward to going back! Also we had the vegan sushi, it was tasty.

Google
Wild. That’s all i can say. Unique entertainment in NYC. Perfect for a group/party. Kudos to the team But honestly, the show is a bit too long and gets slightly boring towards the end.

I stumbled upon this off-Broadway show while searching for a fun experience to gift my friend—and wow, what a find! They were blown away, so we decided to check it out ourselves, and oh my god, it was so good. BATSU (which means “punishment” in Japanese) is centered around a hilarious competition where the “heroes” (the incredibly talented performers who also work at the comedy club) take on wild, often absurd challenges—and if they lose, they face some pretty entertaining punishments. The venue is small, but that’s part of the charm. It creates this intimate, immersive atmosphere where you feel super close to the action, almost like you’re part of the show. Everything is improvised, which makes it all the more impressive and unpredictable. The heroes are quick, witty, and fully committed to the bit. They offer beer, sake, and a few snacks—definitely grab a drink and just let yourself enjoy the ride. Highly recommend this for anyone looking for something a little different, a little chaotic, and a whole lot of fun.

Google
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely hysterical night with Baisu and the improv crew! 🎭😂 The entire group was quick, sharp, and totally fearless on stage. Their chemistry was incredible, and every scene had the audience roaring with laughter. Improv takes serious talent, and these performers made it look effortless. The crowd interaction, unexpected twists, and nonstop energy made for a one-of-a-kind experience. If you’re looking for a fun, unpredictable night out, Baisu’s show is a must. Can’t wait to go again!

Google
Batsu! A great spot to go with friends. Definitely unique, definitely a party, worth the ticket price. Food was decent but the stars were the talent on stage. Very funny, very organic A+

Google
It’s good for a one time experience. It is funny and made me laugh a couple of times! The food is also decent. Would recommend going with a big group & get a big table

Yelp
This experience is well worth the money and time!! This is something I would attend again and still have the same enjoyment. Laugh out loud fun from beginning to end! The doors opened 10 minutes before start time. We waited outside and given an intro with to-dos and not-to-dos before we were led in to our seats. We pass through the kitchen and into a dark but Japanese-themed room. The earlier you come, the better seats you get. We paid for VIP ($90/pp) so theoretically a better view but more than half the attendees were VIP. There are Batsu headbands on the table to indicate you want sake from the sake ninja. There were 4 pours during the experience. The price for food is super affordable!! It was neither tasty nor bad, but lovely to enjoy throughout the show. The staff come around for refills throughout the show as well. Expect a dance opener, a host and 4 improv comedians with several bits, and audience participation. Photo ops with the participants and opportunity to buy merch (sadly the t-shirt print started ripping after first wear...) No outside food/beverage allowed.

Yelp
This was the craziest goofiest experience I had in New York! What a fun time, the vibes were awesome and being in the audience I had no idea what to expect. Good - It's like a combo of improv and scripted show, it's a dinner show so the food they serve is given mostly at the beginning - They call for volunteers, so we put our name in the hat - only one per table - We ended up getting chosen! And they punished my friend but also they got a free ticket for the next show - Get VIP - we got like 6 shots of sake and a head band - Raunchy and fun, we laughed the whole time Bad: - Runs late, started 30 min in Overall loved this so much, super memorable experience overall!

Yelp
AMAZING show! We were celebrating a birthday last night, and had SO much fun, and they let us participate in the show:) Also every member of the staff was incredibly attentive, professional and kind! Thank you so much and I'll be back

Yelp
Batsu in New York City is one fun time! Take it from me. I've been twice, and both times were amazing. What is Batsu? Batsu is a Japanese games show that infuses audience participation with games and improv. It is fun, it is hilarious, and you will definitely have a good time! Oh, and I mustn't forget to mention that they have food--mostly sushi and other Japanese favorites. As for the food, everything is fresh and tastes really good. And while you can't go wrong with anything on their menu, I'd avoid the sushi boat if you are a big eater like me. Why? Well, for the price, it's just not enough to share with more than two people. If you are a light eater, that may not be the case but, my mantra is: bring all the food! Batsu also has drinks (of course), but the menu for drinks is kind of small. I'd stick with Japanese beer or sake. Oh, and if you get the VIP ticket, you get free sake, shots passed to you throughout the night (not "all you can drink," but several shots come your way over the course of the night). If you're thinking about hitting up, Batsu, you should do it. You will have tons of fun!!!

Yelp
My sister got me and my husband reservations for BATSU for our Christmas present, so we had no idea what it was or what to expect. This was also our first time going to a comedy/improv show, so adding that to us not knowing what BATSU was, made for a great night. The best way to go into the show is the less you know the better, so I'll leave my review at that. We were seated with another couple, and it was also their first time. There's food and drinks available for order, service was fast, and you don't really notice service weaving in and out throughout the show.

Yelp
I was really excited to book Batsu! and it was definitely worth the money for the live entertainment. The show was incredibly creative with tons of fun challenges, and they even let patrons join in. It was a blast! However, the food was a big disappointment. The sushi and other dishes were awful--the sushi roll fell apart, the rice didn't stick, and everything was bland. It was probably the worst food I've had, so I had to take off two stars for that.

Yelp
Holy cow. It's hard to describe what the Batsu event was. Was like. Part comedy show, part improv, part game show, part saddism. I'd rather not go into too much detail on the show since the suspense is half the fun. I will leave you with the description from a friend's face who was called up - it was mixed with shock and disbelief but also glorious anticipation. Food was spectacular and drinks were exceptional. VIP area seems like they had a little sake party. Overall highly suggest and don't look at too many descriptions even though the show and actors do change up. Can't wait to return.

Yelp
This was hands down one of the best and most unique shows I've ever been to! Highly recommend if you're in NYC!! Batsu is a japanese style comedy game show, where comedians compete agaisnt each other with short form improv games. If they lose, they have to endure punishment. And ngl yall, some of the punishments were INTENSE. There is also voluntary audience participation. They take one person per table. Everyone in my party was super hesitant to do it so I got peer pressured to volunteer. It was honestly super fun and not that bad! I'm the type of person who doesn't like to be heckled at comedy cellar so if this is you, trust me, you will be fine at Batsu! The night was super fun! We were laughing the entire time. This show is super crazy, wacky, fun, and amazing. Pro tip: - Its a small venue so every table has a good view of the stage - They pass out free wasabi sushi challenge at the end, I recommend you don't eat it if you can't handle super spicy food (my friends threw up their sushi lmao) - Great place to celebrate birthdays

Yelp
Ever heard of batsu games? It's a hilarious part of a Japanese comedy show where losers face outrageous punishments! BATSU! Live, led by a majority AAPI team, brings this to life with a unique mix of Japanese batsu games and American improv. This bilingual, immersive experience has it all--Japanese dancers, a sneaky sake ninja, and hachimakis for everyone to wear. If you're looking to forget your worries and enjoy great comedy with delicious sake, this is the place to be!

Yelp
The food was yummy. But the most memorable part was how funny this whole game showy place was! The cast was fucking hilarious and we couldn't stop laughing, everyone that attended were good sports. I was surprised when my partner went up on stage and told everyone about our anniversary! Felt super embarrassed but overall it was super fun! I definitely recommend this place if you wanna do something fun late night.

Yelp
Truly a unique experience in NYC... what looks like a relatively low-key spot in the East Village is actually quite an immersive and hilarious atmosphere. The folks at BATSU essentially run a high-energy improv comedy club mixed with interactions from the audience -- I highly recommend going to BATSU to celebrate an occasion. it'll be VERY likely they choose you to participate for a birthday, for example :) We ordered the sushi boat and 3x bottles of sake. The sushi boat had high quality sashimi that really was a pleasure to digest through all the laughing from the 2-hour event. Sake was smooth, and went down easy neat. The real draw is the part-comedy, part-punishment show that you came for! The staff inflict some pretty heart-racing punishments to themselves, while giving more palatable punishments to the audience, if that was a concern . Many times it's funny, other times it's shocking!! Audience members who participle in the BATSU games get free admission to come back, and other who volunteer for more crazy punishments can win a free pitcher of beer! Overall, BATSU was a hilarious and crazy dining experience in NYC. kudos to the staff for keeping everything entertaining and lively. PS - try the wasabi sushi at the end if you want your tear ducts to open

Yelp
One word. WOW! This was a crazy fun experience. My partner and I met up with some friends while we were here in NYC for some fun. We did not know much about this place but boy was it an experience. The show actors were incredibly funny and improvised well. The place was PACKED. When I say packed, I mean not a single seat was open. We paid around $45 per ticket which did not include food. The show was about 90 minutes. The servers were great about checking in. We ordered a few bottles of sake to sip on during the show. We got sat in the corner and unfortunately had our backs facing the stage. We had to turn around to make sure we were able to watch. It is a pretty intimate setting so it wasnt a huge issue but still an inconvenience. Overall, I LOVED the energy of the show. The staff was friendly and so glad I got to experience a fun environment like this. If you want to see a crazy fun show, I suggest you visit Batsu!

Yelp
What a fun experience! This place is "Whose line is it anyway" meets "Fear Factor". This is a small venue but hold about 30-40 people. You could pay for the VIP but a standard ticket was just fine. The comedians did such an amazing job with the improvisations. I'm glad I got dinner before going as the food didn't look like anything special but I got sake and a beer. The energy was very high from the moment you walked in which is exactly what you want from a place like this. The show itself was just over an hour. I left wanting more as I could watch this for hours. While most stunts and acts are done by the employees, they do ask for some volunteers to participate. Just know if you lose your challenge, you get a punishment along with the comedians! (Nothing too bad) If you're looking for something different to do and want a good laugh I recommend Batsu! (If you check in on Yelp you get a free sake shot)

Yelp
I've definitely never been to an experience like this before! I went here for a work outing. We walked into a room with flashing lights and music and the sushi was already sitting out waiting for us. They brought us in group by group so it wasn't too hectic. The service was really fast although I wish they automatically gave you plates because eating sushi without one gets annoying haha. It's also VERY VERY loud in there. The show was really interesting and fun! We were SCREAMING from the craziness and seeing our bosses being shocked and participate in punishments. Anyone who volunteered to be part of the show and did the punishment got a prize. At the end they brought out wasabi sushi as a voluntary punishment for everyone.

Yelp
I was sold on BATSU when I saw a friend posting about it on social media. It's a Japanese-style comedy show in which comedians compete in challenges to avoid punishments. The punishment she shared on her IG stories looked terrifyingly hilarious, and I knew I had to see what the other punishments were! So here's what to expect... There are two ticket options on their website: $75 for VIP or $45 for standard. VIPs get a bandana or something of that sort and basically free-flowing sake. It's not "unlimited" sake, but the staff goes around pretty frequently with refills. They also get to sit closest to the stage, but the interior is not that big, so there aren't many "bad" seats in the house. My group went with the standard ticket and got one of the better seats for non-VIPs, so just show up early/ on time! The entry is a bit discreet but it's right next to the restaurant that's on the corner. The show didn't start right on the dot... had to wait for all the people to arrive. While waiting, you'll get served water, and you can also order drinks/food. My friend who posted about BATSU on social media said the sushi boat wasn't good so my group refrained from ordering food here. One of the staff members drank sake bombs with everyone who ordered it. He and the other workers really hyped up the atmosphere. Another staff member came around asking one person from each group to join the raffle for participating in the games/punishments. If you do decide to sign up for it, you'll also have to sign a waiver, which freaked us out a little! The show begins with two interesting performances, both of which involved the participation of a few audience members. The performances were quirky but not necessarily funny or super entertaining. I was glad the show got better after the performances. The MC made his appearance and commenced the challenges/punishments. Four staff members took the stage as the official participants in the games. But from time to time, they would pull up audience members (who signed the waiver) to join. It was wild seeing an audience member sip soy sauce out of the worker's belly button for a jug of beer!!! There were a bunch of crazy punishments, but everyone took them like a champ. You can tell actual pain was inflicted in some of the punishments. The four main participants were also extremely good at improv for the games. A lot of times, the audience was able to contribute to the direction of the games, which would make every show different from the one before and the next. After about 2 hours of fun and games, a winner is chosen. Then the staff goes around with a tray of wasabi sushi for those who want to do a very last challenge. I died eating it because the wasabi just kept gushing out of the sushi, but it was great. The sound effects and lighting were phenomenal. The workers also chatted with my group on a few different occasions, so the experience just felt very interpersonal.

Yelp
Beyond a great immersive game-show themed experience, here at Batsu, you also get delicious Japanese grub and beer to enhance the experience- liter a full body experience. The service is great and they keep checking up on you to make sure you're comfortable throughout the experience- that goes on for about 2 hours. Loved the preparation and taste on the Chicken Yakitori- took me by surprise to have good food at a spot that doesn't brag about the food but about the show primarily. The acts were entertaining, captivating, and a good detox from the reality of life. Great spot to go with a date or a group of friends.

Yelp
A lot of the times enjoying something depends on the people you are with. If you are with a bunch of negative people, you will never enjoy the show. I enjoyed the show 110%. My friend took me out for another belated birthday celebration. Definitely, the people you are with make the show that much more enjoyable. Translation: Don't go with a prude!! How long have I been in NYC and not known this existed for around 12 years. If you liked Wipeout, MXC, Impractical Jokers, Jackass, Who's line is it anyway or the Japanese show Takeshi's Castle, you would love this show. If you haven't gotten the reference yet, it is also like certain college hazing rituals. So my friend had me, after protesting, sign a waver to get randomly picked for a challenge. What do you know? I was picked for the sake challenge. I did good, but the second guy on the team kept dropping the egg, and we lost:) But after a batsu(a penalty for losing) in this case having to dance as ballerinas, I received a ticket to another show. I had a lot of fun during the show. There is audience participation, and it is an exciting atmosphere. Do purchase the headband to get visits from the stealthy sake ninja. He came by 3 or 4 times for us. The headband is reusable for another show,so keep it if you want to come again. Food was standard bar food. I did like the soju jelly shots they had. Pro tip a bottle of wine or prosecco is not too expensive. I highly recommend this experience.

Yelp
BATSU!!! There are a lot of things to do in New York City, but I was extremely blown away with how great of an experience this was and will happily pay the ticket price again to go back and have already recommended it to several friends! My boyfriend and I went to the 10pm show on Friday. We had arguably the best seat in the house and had a good amount of soju, which added to the experience. We had some sushi and crispy tuna as well as a jelly shot out of a can and a delicious soju cocktail. The theater is small enough every audience member feels like they are really interacting with the professional actors. There was an MC and then four main actors who went through the challenges, occasionally pulling in audience members. The BATSUs (punishments) were hilarious to witness and the actors were all talented, fun, and great sports! There are some surprises mixed in and the energy is incredible. Thanks for a memorable night BATSU NYC! I can't wait to come back and have more sushi (off of a plate unless...)

Yelp
Came here for the first time two weeks ago and it was such a fun time! I've loved and enjoyed every minute here and had my first sake bomb! everyone was so nice - the people that were doing the acts were so hilarious and we even chatted with one of them even after the show. their fries were also super yummy. and food looked great but we only got fries and drinks. definitely worth a visit! something different and improv is super funny. the vibe was intimate and private but super casual. perfect to go with friends or your partner, or even for a birthday!

Kylie M.

Yelp
Just book it! Wasn't sure what to expect as I'm not usually one to find people getting hurt funny, but this is so much more than that. The staff was so welcoming and fun and we were in stitches the entire time. Sushi was good, I'd recommend ordering the boat when you get your tickets as there's limited time to order and you don't really want to be worrying about the ordering once you get in - they start crowdwork almost immediately. Splurge for VIP if you drink- it's so worth getting the headband that tells the "sake ninja" to bring you free shots. I think she brought us 5 each at least, I'm nursing a happy hangover as I type. I'm in town visiting my sister and brother in law and brought them here for the first time based off a thread on reddit (which was nerve wracking) but they are already planning to bring their friends back and thanked me for finding a new experience to show off!!

Izzy L.

Yelp
It was amazing... AGAIN!! It's such a good show with such talented people. Well done for what you have created!! We clearly see all the great and hard work you put into it to create such a well crafted and fun show!! People, don't hesitate, book your tickets, let yourself get surprised by the show, anticipate nothing, live it, enjoy it, feel it, let your inner Brie Van de kamp get shocked. You will enjoy every bit of it and probably get out of there with a newfound threshold for pain I want to be them when I grow young!!! Merci, à la prochaine fois

Yelp
I have no clue how I found out about this place, but it's a gem to say the least. Batsu in the EV is a Japanese comedy show....and I'd say it's a mix of 50% Who's Line is it Anyways....50% Impractical Jokers.....25% Jacka** and 25% Wild N Out. Batsu itself if the experience of the losing team/person doing something unpleasant as punishment. It's pretty inconspicuous when walking by, so be careful not to pass it. The food was all deliciousness, didn't get any pics as it was dark since we got served after the show started. It's communal seating as well, so you'll be close with others depending on the size of your group. Great diverse show and I'm so thankful I did not, repeat, DID NOT, volunteer to be a participant. Of course one of my friends entered into the mix, and ya'll, after the first audience participation stunt....I would have lost the contents of my stomach on stage....HARD PASS. I won't give away what they did...but here is some of their punishment: A guys' punishment (he worked there) was to put his hands onto a tray full of live mouse traps...and just have them cut off circulation to his fingers?!?!?! I mean...come on folks.... I'd totally go back as it seems they do different things each round. Highly recommend if you get to go.
google avatar

Madeline A.

Yelp
A fun night out, but not my type of comedy. We bought the standard ticket which I was happy with. You can upgrade to the headband experience which gets you a closer seat to the stage and one or two shots of saki from the saki ninja. Seating is communal so you'll end up sitting with other people you may not know, which was fine with me. I enjoyed the improv as the cast members were talented, but the "punishments" were terrible. If you enjoy watching people get hurt, then this is for you, otherwise, skip it. There were many groups celebrating birthdays. They do ask for audience participation and bribe you with a free ticket to come back for another show. The food did not look appetizing at all, so eat before you come!
google avatar

P M.

Yelp
Been here twice. Once for my birthday and the other when I friends in from out-of-town. Both times were amazing. One of my guests said it had been a while since he had laughed this much - which was exactly the kind of evening I wanted all of us to have. Also, the performers are so friendly and really pay attention to each person and whatever info you've provided them about yourselves while making the reservation. Food service is pretty slow and I found it hard to get anyone's attention. But that's not enough to dock any stars. The experience was too good for that.
google avatar

Evan L.

Yelp
Really entertaining show. High energy, fun improv games, a charismatic host, and hilarious punishments. Often times improv can be corny, but the BATSU team members (or "warriors", as they call them) are the real deal- they're really talented and had our group laughing the whole night. The team also did a great job riffing with the audience, making sure we were comfortable and understood what was going on, and even including us in some of the games. Would definitely come back, especially because I didn't get to try the food last time!
google avatar

Katrina W.

Yelp
This place is INSANE lol.. interpret this as you will. To start, they have people go up for challenges and if you lose, you get a "punishment." Some of the punishments are pretty bad like eating sushi off one of the employee's hairy belly with soy sauce slathered all over him and drinking sushi out of his belly button. Personally, I don't know if I could've done it but it was entertaining to watch and overall was a really unique/fun experience. The food was very average/not the highlight there. Their standard rolls were fine, but I don't think the special rolls are worth. I did really like the fries though! They were very thin and crispy. I think this place is definitely worth checking out for a special event/if you wanna do something different.
google avatar

Linda A.

Yelp
Haven't laughed this hard in a long time. Impractical jokers meets jackass. Improv at its best. I've seen a lot of comedy shows...Matt rife, sugar sammy, Paula poundstone...and this entertained me the most. We are visiting from Hawaii and we were trying to figure out something to do and we found this when searching for a comedy show. Will do this again when we come back next year.
google avatar

Stephanie S.

Yelp
Amazing experience! Nothing I've ever seen before. I took my boyfriend here for a date and we had so much fun. The food is yummy, drinks were good, great service. 100% would recommend for a fun date night or a fun night out with friends. Definitely coming back again in the future! :)
google avatar

Nigora R.

Yelp
"Batsu! Batsu! Batsu," the small crowd chants as a loser is declared. Engaging and fun spirited, Batsu is a place to go to if you're looking to laugh and chant with a group of friends over endless sake and watch people partake in comedic battles. You can even volunteer to be part of the fun! Everyone also gets a free headband IF you buy VIP :D The pitcher of Sapporo, fries, and tofu roll were good, but not filling. I'd come half full here. Then again, I'm a vegan so my options were tight. They have several vegetarian options as well as two vegan options. Highly recommended.

Anugrah V.

Yelp
Really fun experience. The improv was very high quality. Can't wait to be back. SSSSSAAAAAKE BOMBS
google avatar

Rebecca Q.

Yelp
My first comedy show ever! Standard tickets are $45 and we went on a weeknight. I would say the energy is great, first off, but there's not really a lot of japanese elements except the food and costumes they wear. Some of the improv games were also difficult to follow along (I was thoroughly confused half the time) Good experience, but I would not go again.
google avatar

Yelp
Positives first - very friendly and efficient service, especially given the cramped space. I appreciate that you're not crammed in elbow-to-elbow and you can get in and out of your seat without getting intimate with the table next to you. Every seat in the house gets a good view, no need for VIP tickets. Food and drink are not outrageous for NYC venue prices. The performers are very enthusiastic; every gag, every bit, they are fully sending it. A TOTO/bidet toilet in the bathroom - very nice and much appreciated. With the good out of the way, there's some bad. Honestly the show just wasn't that funny. Maybe my expectations were too high. The menu is not anywhere on their website, but it is basic with limited options. Food is a few sushi rolls and appetizers like gyoza and edamame. They have a few sake options and like 1-2 beers (available by the pitcher too). They have a sushi boat that is advertised as "for 2-4 people!" When it came to our table I genuinely felt scammed by how small it was for over $100. Just order individual items; you'll get more food that way. In their defense I've been to comedy clubs that literally serve microwaved mozzarella sticks and Natty light - but BATSU! says in their FAQ "but we have an awesome food and drinks menu." It's certainly nicer than frozen pizza and theater nachos, but it is not run like a dinner service. it's really a snack and not a meal. Eat before you come. If you love improv, you will have a great time. If you don't, it's a pass.

Yelp
Nestled in the heart of the East Village lies a gem of an experience - BATSU Live NYC. It's not just a dinner comedy show; it's an immersive blend of high-energy improv, audience participation, and side-splitting humor. From the moment you step in, the atmosphere pulsates with energy, largely thanks to the talented folks at BATSU. They masterfully interweave spontaneous comedy with audience interactions, ensuring every show is unique. The culinary experience was unexpectedly delightful. We ordered the sushi boats, brimming with high-quality sashimi that exceeded our expectations for a dinner show setting. Paired with bottles of top-notch sake, the meal itself was a showstopper. But the real thrill? The BATSU games! Staff members brace themselves for punishments, while audience participants get a taste of milder, yet equally amusing ones. A special shoutout to the charismatic host, Shodome. His knack for captivating the audience elevated the evening's ambiance. Definitely pick a night when he is there.

Yelp
All I can say is: Go and don't get spoiled by photos or reviews. It's a high energy performance / comedy / dinner vibe and I loved every second of it and we are so excited to go back at some point. We didn't eat any of the food (just got drinks), but my god the staff and performers brought their A game all the way. Only piece of advice: Even though tickets are for "7 PM", that's more when people start showing up and ordering their food. There's some pre-show dancing around 7:15, then the show started 7:30 sharp. So don't show up at 6:30 like we did!

Yelp
When I first read about this place, I have to admit I was skeptical. The premise seemed a bit too "jackass" when I read it and I was doubtful I would enjoy it. Don't get me wrong, I have a great sense of humour, I just thought it seemed a bit juvenile maybe. My brother had gotten the tickets through a friend and so we went, not really fully knowing what to expect. Well, let me tell you - what a fantastic experience this was! When we arrived at the address, we initially thought we were in the wrong place. The door is completely nondescript and when we opened the door, we look into the kitchen of a Japanese restaurant. We were told we were early and would have to wait about 15 minutes. Once we got in, I have to say, the service is not great - it's outstanding! Everyone was so friendly, attentive, and absolutely hilarious. It didn't feel contrived as some places can seem, in fact, everyone was absolutely genuine. I just can't say enough great things about the whole team, but especially Joe. What a character! The food was better than expected, and the sake ninja was a definite highlight! Although I do recommend upgrading to a bottle of sake - the house stuff is ok, but if you love sake, you'll know what I'm talking about. The show itself was incredibly entertaining and 1,000 times better than I expected it to be. If you're looking for something unique and fun to do in New York City, I highly recommend BATSU!! It's something you can see multiple times and never experience the same show twice. What an absolute gem this was and I'm so glad we went. Thanks to Joe and the entire cast for a memorable experience. BATSU!!

Yelp
A very silly improv show where the participants have to perform challenges like rapping or making up a story and the losers get some of sort of punishment like being hit by a paintball or having to eat sushi out off of a fat dude's stomach. Food and drink prices aren't terrible for nyc. I have mixed feelings about it. The show was definitely unique and entertaining, but I agree with some of the other review that this show really plays up and caters to Western stereotypes of Japan, which can make this show kinda cringe. And yes, I know the owner is Japanese but most of the performers are not. I'd probably die of embarrassment if I brought my Japanese husband here.

Yelp
This place is a must in NYC! Entertaining and delicious Japanese treats. We ordered the sushi cruise that was delicious and a good size for 4 people. Talented and experienced comedians made the night. Perfect for a birthday outing, groups, a date and even solo. Different than your regular date nights. The ambiance is pleasant, clean and neat. Highly recommended!

Yelp
BATSU! Loved every minute of this experience. From the wacky penalty games the contestants had to go through, to being a contestant myself and losing my team the game. This place will have you laughing the whole night! I originally found out about this place when I was looking for Japanese comedy events in NYC. I studied Japanese Language and Culture in college so I've always been drawn to all aspects that will contribute to learning more about Japan. If Japanese Comedy and American Comedy were to ever intersect, it would be BATSU and I enjoyed the whole ride. The food was great and the ninjas walking around doing ninja things was a great touch. If you are ever looking for something to do on a Friday or Saturday night, look no further. Thanks for the amazing time!

Yelp
So much fun!! Went here for a work holiday party and it was hilarious and the crowd loved it. The food was average, but worth it for the comedy and the unique experience!

Yelp
I love the concept, but didn't love my experience. Could be just me, but I know a lot of people in my party loved it. The atmosphere and the audience participation was fun, but felt a little cheesy and cliche at parts. Drinks were fine. Make sure to check in and get the free shot of sake from Yelp. They also passed out wasabi sushi at the end as a bit of a gag gift, be warned!!!

Yelp
I decided to check them out for a date night it's like an interactive dinner improv/comedy imitating Japanese gameshow. The entrance is on the side like a side door where there is a mural. You can purchase the ninja headbands for $20 for periodic shots of sake from the ninja. They ask if you want to participate in the challenges and if you lose the batsu or punishment isn't that bad it's fun to just laugh at yourself. We had a good time, the staff was very welcoming and funny. The menu is a bit limited to small bites and sushi. I would definitely recommend checking them out for a fun date idea or come with friends.

Yelp
Have attended 5 or 6 shows and always book the VIP reservation as it is well worth it! The headband and visits from the sake ninja elevate the experience and make it even more epic! Sushi and apps are fresh and tasty...great to soak up all of the sake and beer enjoyed during the show!

Yelp
Batsu! is my spirit animal. Everyday since I have told at least one person of my experience. It was a perfect way to cap off the bachelor party. The show was exactly what we needed and a representation of our friend group to a T. The improvisers were on point. The production was great. The sake ninja got the best of one of us. I haven't laughed this much in almost any setting. We cannot stop talking about our time. We will be back and we will be back often!

Yelp
AMAZING. I wanted to plan something 'different' for my husbands 40th birthday and came across Batsu. It was everything I wanted it to be and more. Entertaining, hilarious, and interactive, our entire group had the best time and are still texting about it the day after. If you don't like to sit close to people this isn't the place for you as they jam everyone in, BUT that just means more laughter and fun. Thanks for the great night!

Yelp
Probably the most fun you can possibly have in NYC without getting arrested. Don't miss it!!

Yelp
The show itself was fun and entertaining, definitely a unique experience worth having in the city. Most of the staff was friendly, however, the waitress serving us really sullied our mood. First, she asked the other couple at our table if they wanted food and then ignored us - we had to flag her down to get our order placed (~1 hour into the reservation). Next, she took our order incorrectly. Finally, when she was cleaning up, she spilled soy sauce all over my purse. She told me it was just water and she barely wiped it down. The worst part was she never even apologized and told me that my purse was "fine" and said "it's not broken." Her attitude was very unprofessional and dampened what was otherwise a good experience.

Yelp
Unique NY experience that can't be missed! Snagged tickets on TodayTix for only $24! It truly is a punishment game show and they don't hold back. Hilarious punishments and they even take volunteers ahead of time to compete in some of the games. Highly recommend for both locals and tourists!
