Where to Get the Best Fall Lattes in Philly | Eater Philly

"Batter and Crumbs is a bakery and cafe in South Philadelphia known for its vegan baked goods and exciting lattes. When you visit, you can enjoy fan favorites like its golden oat milk latte made with turmeric and black pepper. You can also go for something nontraditional when you get the creamy pumpkin cold brew made with sweet cream, cinnamon, and cold foam, or the butter pecan latte." - George Banks-Weston

Google
Wonderful bakery and coffee shop! Delicious vegan baked goods and savory items. We got their lemon blueberry scone, cinnamon roll & two drinks. The iced pistachio latte was really good, great flavor and well balanced. I love me a good cinnamon roll and this one definitely hit the spot. 10/10 would highly recommend checking this place out. We got everything to go but the decor and seating looked really nice and inviting.

Google
This is an incredible vegan bakery and cafe!!!! So many breakfast and lunch sandwiches! And their baked goods are off the charts amazing!!! Vegan Nutella latte was SO good!! Go here! You won’t be disappointed. And such a cozy and nice atmosphere and staff!

Google
We loved the vegan and gluten free options. Some items we didn't enjoy personally, but over all it waa good and a great experience. The canoli and the banana pudding were incredible. We are considering going back for the canoli.

Google
Amazing! Absolutely everything we tried was delicious! Super cute aesthetic inside too! Coffee was perfect, the warmed cinnamon rolls were so good I cannot wait to go back! The cannoli was so fresh and had a tiny lemon hint that made it yummy! The cakes have such great flavor and balance, highly recommend. Very nice atmosphere if you have the chance to sit and enjoy your drink and snack. Cannot wait to go back to try more goodies!

Google
I go here every time I’m in Philly. The food is really good, the employees are always nice and the inside is super cute. They are all vegan and have scones, cinnamon rolls, cupcakes, danishes, cannolis and other pastries, along with sandwiches, wraps and a coffee bar. Love this place. Pictured is a the large vegan cannoli and the pictures hanging in the bathroom.

Google
Great breakfast spot!! As someone who needs to eat gluten free, this was a great find! I genuinely don’t remember the last time I got to eat a breakfast sandwich on a bagel and it was delicious!! I also highly recommend the Maple Oat Latte! Great food, excellent service, and fun vibes I’ll definitely be coming back next time I travel to Philly!

Google
Batter & Crumbs truly made our celebration unforgettable! From the moment we placed our custom order, the experience was seamless, and the attention to detail was impeccable. The cake was not only a visual masterpiece, but also an undeniable HIT at our party—moist, flavorful, and perfectly balanced in sweetness. Every bite was filled with joy, bringing excitement and smiles to all. We can’t wait to order again for our next special occasion!

Google
I ordered the unicorn cake for my daughter’s 2nd birthday. I have to say I'm a bit disappointed. The cake was dry and it was hard to cut it. Also, the presentation of the cake was not the same as shown on the website. The unicorn looks completely different and the flowers are dry and faded. I read someone else review on the same cake, it looks the same as the website. I want to love it but this is my honest review. I don't think I will be ordering another cake but maybe I will try something else there. The first two pictures are the actual cake I got, and the third picture is the website picture.

Yelp
Quick grab and go before work. I have the breakfast sandwich with hash brown on sweet potato roll. Great service: my sandwich was heated perfectly. Clean, comfortable and cozy dining area.

Yelp
awesome vegan spot in south philly! great amount of seating for a coffee shop (i can always find a place to sit), and i've never had a drink here i didn't love. all their in house baked goods have been fantastic, but their outsourced food can be a hit or miss- i've loved the mccrumb, mac and cheeses, the monte cristo, to name a few. i've been coming in regularly for over a year and every employee has been so sweet :-) try the cannoli!! my non vegan family thinks they're better than regular!!

Yelp
I happened upon this place due to a gift card I received. I'm grateful it's out of the way for me, because I would be a regular in spite of my wallet. They have so many delicious looking goodies that it's hard to leave without a tote of tasty treats for later. If you want to enjoy the cold foam trend, but haven't been able to due to dairy content - this is your winning spot. The coconut cold brew with cold foam is delicious. Service is always friendly. Wonderful spot. Even having emptied that gift card, I'll be sure to venture out here when I need a tummy friendly treat.

Yelp
I really liked my coffee but the breakfast sandwich I had wasn't my favorite. The other baked goods looked really good though and I'd definitely go back to try them. All the staff were friendly too.

Yelp
I've wanted to go here for a long time. Cute interior, professional staff, lots of options for pastries and breakfast food but man, the bill was really high for a couple. We both had coffee drinks, a pastry, and a breakfast items. They were good but not good enough to justify the post pandemic prices. It was so disappointing.

Yelp
So happy to see a fully vegan bakery in philly. I got an iced chai and a smoky garden bagel sandwich. The chai was probably the best drink I had overall in my east coast trip. The bagel sandwich surely wasn't the best but it was still really good. I also couldn't help myself and also walked away with a mini canoli and cinnamon roll, both of which were great. I appreciate that they made a small more bitesized canoli in addition to the giant one, I think I would have gone in a sugar coma if I had the large one and I had a plane to catch. I'm coming here again when I visit to try the rest of their pastries.

Yelp
So I was visiting Veganville for the weekend, meaning non-vegan here eating all meals with a vegan. It could also mean Philly itself, which appears to be the epicenter of vegan food. Knowing I like a savory morning, my friend recommended we pick up some Spinach Jawns. If you're not from Philly, you probably don't know what "jawn" means. Google it or don't worry about it, it's not going to impact your experience of this vegan version of the Italian erbazzone, which is essentially a savory spinach pastry that usually has parm and lard or butter in it. Not this vegan jawn, which keeps the spinach and rich pastry, but dumps the animal products. It was super delish and filling, and had the good "buttery" pastry taste. There are numerous delicious items here, including breakfast sandwiches, sweets and coffee drinks. This is a cute cafe with excellent air-conditioning, and service was friendly. I am not new to vegan food by any means, but would certainly eat a lot more of it if I had places like Batter & Crumbs to get my breakfast fix.

Yelp
This spot has cute decor with furniture and colors reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland, including a little seating area by the window. I could definitely see sitting here and chatting over tea. The strawberry crumb cupcake was *delicious.* You would not know it was vegan if no one told you. Felt the price was a bit much for the size, but worth it for a once in a while treat. The cannoli was good too--pretty close the real thing. I've come across some places that rely on nut-based substitutions for vegan fare. I was happy to learn that this place is nut free. Was bummed to find out they no longer had the strawberry crumb cupcake a few weeks later. They change some flavors each month.

Yelp
I was on my way to the airport after having brunch nearby with a friend. I haven't lived in the city for ten years so typing in vegan and seeing so many options was awesome! This place popped up as being a few blocks away. I was so thankful that I stopped in. I had a long day of travel ahead and airports are pathetic for vegans. The man I spoke with (super nice BTW!) suggested that I take the puff pastry along since it would be good cold or hot! Man was he right. This thing was so bomb I kept wondering what it would taste like hot!! It was seasoned just right. I love that it had nutritional yeast in the ingredients. What an amazing food that it seems like only vegans obsess over but is good for all! Everything is on display which makes it much easier to order MORE! I just had to try their cannoli. It is south philly afterall! So bomb. There were two sizes and I really wanted the BIG one but I had to save space for the cupcake which I also gobbled down in the car. SO moist. MMMMmmm. Moist. I took the giant krispy cake along to the airport and all the kids and parents at my layover in LAX were definitley eyeing it.... Sorry but I'm not sharing. I will be back in town in October and will be brining my husband by! Thank you again :)

Yelp
Super cute cafe in the neighborhood. Quirky and eclectic and yet inviting decor. They had some unique flavors of coffee so had to try some. I got the Nutella Latte (I love anything hazelnut) and it was good. My companion got the Irish cream latte and she really enjoyed it. My only disappointment was the bagel I got. It could have been a great companion to my Nutella Latte but it was just a very basic bagel, not soft but not crunchy, somewhere in between and for a plain bagel, it had a flavor I wasn't sure of.
google avatar

Yelp
5 stars for the cannolis - fresh and delicious. Tried a cinnamon bun yesterday. It was hard. You can't go wrong with the cannolis.

Yelp
I can't recommend this Cafe enough. I've been wanting to go there for a while and we finally did woo! and I made up for it by buying almost everything in the case The spinach Jawn was to die for as was the bacon and egg pastry. The pumpkin bread was perfection. I loved the cannolis and the Apple pastry as well. Their sandwiches were outstanding and some of them came from various places. We loved the chicken parm, The BLT, and the mac and cheese from chef Lenka and her breakfast sandwiches oh my God so good! The chocolate croissant was one of the best I've had. Well as you can see I pretty much loved all the food there was just nothing I tried that wasn't outstanding. Our lattes were excellent the butterscotch brulee what's the perfect amount of flavor and taste. And not sickeningly sweet like a certain Big chain. The cafe itself is just so damn pretty. Bright and airy with beautiful decor. We loved sitting in the chairs by the window . Shout out to the employeesas well who were so patient and so friendly with all our questions. I cannot wait to go back. This is definitely going to be a place where I will be visiting way too often.

Yelp
Food was good, its a casual bakery, promptly service, the interior had a cozy design.

Yelp
I got a takeout birthday cake from here and it was very good! Pretty in decoration but so sweet I could only have a few bites.
google avatar

Yelp
Really excellent vegan bakery and coffee shop. I could only get there once on my visit to Philly but I would definitely go again! Highly recommend trying Virtually all the treats. I also liked their special mocha. It even had vegan whipped cream! Super cute decor and seating area a plus.

Kedar D.

Yelp
I wanted to love this place, but everything we had failed to impress. The chocolate chip cookie ($2.25) was dry and didn't taste good. The mini cannoli ($3) was too buttery/cream cheesy for me with an excessively crispy shell. Lastly, the bacon cheddar turnover ($4) had a nicely flaky pastry shell, but the bacon tasted fake/artificial and the cheese was an oily mess. This would have been so much better with Upton's seitan bacon and a cashew cheese instead. Go to Grindcore House instead for better vegan baked goods.

Yelp
I've been going here a lot for years because it's very close by to where I live, usually ok, pastries often too sweet or salty but still good. But recently I've having issues because of cashier named Rob. First time Rob served me I ordered a spinach jawn heated up. I waited 15 minutes as people who came after me were getting their food before me, finally Rob asked me why I was standing around waiting. They took my money but I guess never put in my order? Had to wait in total 20 minutes for something that usually takes 5. Today was the last straw and I don't think I'll be returning. I ordered a decaf mocha from Rob and specified twice that it needed to be decaf. I get sick from too much caffeine and am very sensitive. I received my drink and started drinking it, I started to feel sick after 1/3 of the drink. I took it back to Rob and they confirmed that it's wrongly caffeinated. I got made the correct drink quickly, however I was very sick. I had to cut my outing short and go home to lay down because now I have a headache and nausea. They did not offer to comp the drink or anything to smooth over their mistake, which I feel like is a pretty big mistake because it's causing me pain. Also I ordered a custom birthday cake from them in June that was very expensive, not as detailed as I'd hoped, and included these silver beads that where hard and inedible, could break a tooth on. Cake tasted delicious though and most of their pastries are very good, which is why 3 star rating.

Kavina P.

Yelp
I can't comment on the service, but I had the vanilla rose latte today! Absolutely the best latte I've ever had. Also, the coffee cake is amazingly delicious. Highly recommend this place for vegans and non vegans.
google avatar

Heather M.

Yelp
fantastic. I come often to catch up with friends. great selection, nice baristas. only wish the hours were extended by an hour or two as I like to have a slow morning on my days off and if I'm meeting a friend we talk for a few hours, but I understand that may not be financially feasible for the cafe.
google avatar

Caitlyn H.

Yelp
Holy. Moly. WOW. Everything here is SO good. I'm obsessed with the McReeky breakfast sandwich. It's so convincing and good. We order takeout/delivery from here all the time and have never had a bad experience. All of their food is amazing and their coffee rules. Highly recommended.

Davon J.

Yelp
I never thought I'd take the time out to write a review but this has to be the worst place to get vegan food in Philly. Normally items in my order are wrong with my order specifically from batter & crumbs, and I dont think much of it but today i pick up two sandwiches and they're partially cooked. I've been coming here for the past two years on a regular, I even know what workers to avoid talking to because they're rude and its not a once in a while things. The workers who are rude there are rude every time me or my friends order. The photos are proof that I actually order from here and im not just a fake reviewer.

Yelp
(03/07/21) While visiting my brother in South Philly, he suggested a walk to Batter & Crumbs to pick up coffee and pastries. Very surprising to hear recommendations for a completely vegan bakery/cafe from my brother because he is also the same person who got Mike's BBQ and Stargazy meat pies for food that weekend. But he was not wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. His girlfriend graciously ordered online for us and it was ready and waiting inside once we got there. I got the Mocha Iced Coffee with Oat Milk and it was quite good and reasonably priced! I also had their Cosmic Brownie and it was yummy - not actually like the treat of my youth but it was still good. I look forward to visiting again the next time I am in the area. Glad something like this exists in their neighborhood.
google avatar

Cindy C.

Yelp
Was visiting a friend who moved into the area so was looking up cafes. Batter & Crumbs was a couple blocks away so we checked it out. If you didn't tell me it was vegan, I wouldn't have known that. The snickerdoodle coffee and chocolate cupcake were solid and not overly sweet. My friend liked her PSL and the coffee cake. Cute space and there was wifi.
google avatar

Sharika M.

Yelp
I am not even going to bother commenting on the food. I went today with someone who is battling cancer and has a very specific diet for pre radiation therapy. We asked the cashier nicely what oat milk is used and if we could see the carton and what looks like a manager butted in saying "it's just oat milk". We then asked about the vanilla syrup, yet again, what looks like the manager, she, butts in and says "it's just plain syrup." No! Products like Chobani, Oatly and Monin are NOT whole foods. Drop the attitude because you just dropped some customers. The store claims to be inviting and vegan, how about that is continued towards other dietary restrictions. I'd think an establishment like this would be kinder.
google avatar

Katrina L.

Yelp
Great place for vegan baked goods and delicious coffee! I'm not vegan, but had to start a dairy-free diet recently and it's been hard to satisfy my sweet tooth without butter! Batter and Crumbs makes excellent treats. I especially love their cupcakes and seasonal iced lattes (the pumpkin and the maple oat were so yummy!) I also ordered an apple pie for Thanksgiving which was quite good- as a non-vegan, I would've never guessed it was made without butter. I will happily continue to order lattes and baked goods here!

Yelp
I was really excited to see that I lived pretty close to this vegan place!! I ordered a caramel oat latte which was decent. Tried the double chocolate brownie that for 5$ is honestly pretty damn huge but I wouldn't say it's the best thing ever. It's hard and doesn't have any wow factor to it. It's just "edible". I'll have to try other items on the menu !!! Service is quick and but I cannot comment on the ambiance as I wasn't the one to go in the store

Rhoshanna B.

Yelp
I tried them during Vegan Restaurant Week thru Uber Eats. Everything was delicious, especially spinach pastry and cherry cheese dessert.

Emily A.

Yelp
Great bakery. The associates were nice and had great customer service. I only got two items but I would go back again. Prices weren't too bad. The atmosphere was quaint and had a cafe feel.

Yelp
Today's tea/coffee, and pastry devours come all the way from @batterandcrumbs . This small neighborhood establishment has been around for at least three years. Their customer service is very exceptional and their menu is very easy to read. All of their items on their menu is very affordable and delicious. While here I ordered a simple hot tea with lemon and sugar and it was absolutely phenomenal. I can see myself revisiting this small establishment every day before I start my journey of my day. If you ever what some really good store made cupcakes as well as some very fresh brewed coffee? Please check out @batterandcrumbs and tell them Shimmy sent you! #coffee #coffeeshop #morning #goodmorning #philly #philadelphia #city #goodvibes #happy #focused #determined #good #tea #hottea #hot #sweet #cupcakes #food #foodporn #foodie #foodphotography #foodstagram #datespot

Yelp
We went there this past Saturday! The staff was very friendly and answered all of our questions! The Items that we ordered were delicious! I would recommend them always! Stop in! You will not be disappointed! Love this place! The people sitting in the establishment looked very happy with the beautiful artistry inside! Spinach Jawn was delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
Super friendly service, adorable and whimsical decor, fantastic treats and drinks. Open for dine in with great air conditioning!

Trisha A.

Yelp
This is probably the best coffee spot in south Philly. I absolutely love coming here for all their monthly coffee varieties.
google avatar

BH E.

Yelp
Just off Broad Street on Reed, Batter & Crumbs is a neighborhood gem. A full bakery including ready made birthday cakes, cupcakes, coffee and more. They also have pre made sandwiches from local spots including Cheezy Vegan and Rowhouse Grocery. My favorite is the "spinach jawn," an erbazzone that's one of South Philly's best.
google avatar

Tammy W.

Yelp
If there is anything that I love it is a coffee shop with a lavender latte and a vegan baked good. If there was a coffee shop that I would marry, it would be Batter & Crumb. My latte was made perfect with the exact amount of lavender not overpowering at all! And then, the baked goods! Both of my visits (out of a three day trip) , consisted of the coffee cake as well as the cherry danish, and if I could have I safely gotten them in my suitcase to fly home, I would have taken many with me. I am typically not a yelp reviewer but the staff, the service, and the menu called for me to share how special this spot is!! Paul and team- Thank you! AND the squirrel print
google avatar

Yelp
I visited Philly for work and this was my last stop for coffee before heading to the airport. When the Lyft dropped me off on the corner, I was a bit scared by the surroundings, HOWEVER, the coffee and customer service blew me away. This cafe is TOO cute. Just look at the name, so unique and artistic. My experiences usually tell me that cafes that put effort into coming up with a cool name grinds tasty coffee beans lol The lattes were smooth and pastries were fresh. Highly recommended for fellow coffee lovers!

Retna S.

Yelp
Very friendly staff. I got cannoli cake and it's awesome. Taste like tiramisu. I also recommend this cannoli, taste like regular version. You won't know it's vegan

Yelp
Vegan baked goods and breakfast? YES PLEASE! Evvvvverything from Batter & Crumbs has been AMAZING!!! My sister surprised me with a huge box of desserts for my birthday and I couldn't have been happier. Vegan or not, I'd highly recommend this place. Spinach Jawn: Omgggg my sister got me this as a bday breakfast surprise and WOW it was amazing. The pastry is super flaky and the spinach was well seasoned. I like mine heated up slightly. I would happily pay the $5 bridge toll to go from NJ into Philly just for this pastry alone. Vanilla N' Vanilla Cupcake: A classic vanilla cupcake that's perfect for birthdays. The cake is super dense so this is quite filling, and the frosting is fluffy and sweet. Coconut Snowball Cupcake: This was the crowd favorite of the desert spread! The chocolate cake was moist and fluffy, and the coconut icing was amazing. It tasted like buttercream. I don't even like chocolate cake but I could eat 10 of these. Cannoli: My first vegan cannoli! These were really good, though they definitely taste like Tofutti cream cheese haha. They could have been a little sweeter in my opinion, but are still a great option for an Italian dessert. Snickerdoodle: A classic snickerdoodle cookie. These were bigger than my hand! They're more on the hard side instead of soft & chewy, but they're not crunchy. They basically melt in your mouth. The amount of cinnamon and sugar is perfect. Double Chocolate Brownie: This was like fudge! Super rich and filled with chocolate chips. You only need a small piece to satisfy your chocolate craving, so this great to share. It would be amazing heated up and topped with some vanilla ice cream. The McReeky: Amazing vegan version of a McMuffin! I like how you can request them not to be heated up for takeout, then I baked it at home so it was extra warm and fresh. Great taste & great price at only $7. Coffee Cake: Perfect for breakfast or dessert! This is a vanilla cake with a delicious cinnamon crumble topping. It's dense and not too sweet. I ended up sharing (regrettably) and nobody expected it was vegan!

Yelp
I had the absolute pleasure of ordering a great selection of food and drinks from this wonderful cafe during my recent visit to Philadelphia. Our group got a thin mint latte, an iced chai latte, and an iced misfit mocha for drinks, all of which were fantastic. For food, we got the "McReeky", a cinnamon roll, a cannoli, and a piece of coffee cake. While the coffee cake was not the best, all the other food was incredibly impressive. I also threw in a button with my order, which was very cute, and I love that the profits from the button sales go to a local animal sanctuary. Anyway, this place made me very very happy as a vegan visiting from a small New Hampshire town with not a lot of vegan options, and the non-vegans in my group were impressed as well. Can highly recommend Batter & Crumbs, and will certainly be back the next time I'm in Philadelphia!

Yelp
I'm so happy this place has joined the Philly vegan scene! When you walk in you're greeted by cheery decor and a large refrigerator that holds the most beautiful pastries, cakes, cupcakes, sandwiches, and drinks. The refrigerator is the exact one Starbucks uses, except it has amazing vegan treats inside and you're supporting a local business :) Their drinks are awesome. I've tried their iced chai tea latte (oat milk is default! Woohoo!) and their amazing Indraloka mocha. It's a salted caramel mocha with whipped cream and smoked sea salt! It's so good and $1 of it goes to Indraloka Animal Sanctuary. Their pastries are awesome too. So far I've had their cherry cheese danish and mixed berry galette. Both were perfectly baked, moist, and flavorful. And did I mention they have soft serve?! Their soft serve flavors change weekly. So far I've seen them do cake batter, vanilla, cookies & Cream, and orange creamsicle. Their orange creamsicle was amazing, I can't wait to have it again!
google avatar

Nicole W.

Yelp
Let's just say I made sure to eat every last crumb! I'm a huge fan of vegan bakeries as it's so difficult to find decent desserts that won't hurt my stomach. I had the maple oat latte and it was delicious without being too sweet! I also had the Mac and cheese, which was totally vegan. It was a good portion size and tbh pretty tasty. I would definitely come back.

Robin H.

Yelp
Stayed at an Airbnb around the corner so stopped in for coffee and treats. Both of our coffees were delicious. We also got the brookie, s'mores pop tart, and cinnamon roll. All were amazing! And the customer service was great!
google avatar

Yelp
Great snacks, and fancy sandwiches. A cafe comfortable enough to relax with lots of interesting drinks, all vegan! Highly recommend.

Fleischmann O.

Yelp
This place is Really good, well rounded, and super friendly! Live around the corner, and have been eating there before I was vegan, loved it then, and love it now. Most recently got the breakfast sandwich. Wow. So good. Just like their cakes, and everything else they offer. So lucky to have this dime piece.

Susan G.

Yelp
I wanted to love this place but unfortunately that didn't happen. Admittedly, we didn't know this place closed at 2:00 and walked in at 1:40. We were told the ovens were already off so we couldn't get anything heated to eat. So, we ordered Canolis to take home and I bought a slab of their Spinach pie. Everything was wrapped in plastic wrap, which caused the crust to be soggy and chewy despite heating it in an oven as soon as I got home. Flavors of the spinach pie was good, but ruined by crust. Canolis were decent, but the best part was the crunchy tube, which they said they don't make. The filling was decent, but far too heavy for Canolis. I've been a vegan for many years and hoped I had found a place for birthday cakes, etc. No such luck.
google avatar

Jessica J.

Yelp
The food here is so delicious and so are the sweet treats. I highly recommend the chicken and waffle sandwich. You could skip the cannoli (I've only ever had good vegan cannoli from Vegan Treats in Bethlehem), but everything else I've eaten from Batter & Crumbs is delicious. I wish I lived closer!

Cynthia C.

Yelp
The hot mocha is divine and the cherry cheese danish is consistently delicious. Appreciate the holiday specials too!!
google avatar

Jordan T.

Yelp
New to the area and Batter & Crumbs has already become one of my favorite places! Love the cold brew coffee, bagels, and other baked goods. Great to have such a delicious vegan option.
google avatar

Leo B.

Yelp
OMG. I can't eat eggs or dairy so am begrudgingly Vegan-ish. The hardest part for me is satisfying my sweet tooth. No longer a problem. The baked goods at Batter & Crumbs are to die for. Especially the vegan cannoli. Run, don't walk, yo Batter & Crumbs.
google avatar

J K.

Yelp
Love all of the pastries here. Everything is vegan and is delicious. This is my go to spot for birthday cakes/cupcakes. They also feature outside companies in the store. I recently had a lemon cake (not sure what company) but it was good! Great customer service as well!

Yelp
Great customer service! I had the hibiscus tea it was so refreshing ! Beautiful spot with a loving vibe!!
