"This gem of a restaurant is somewhat tucked away in a narrow alley in the city centre. In a historical setting with a cosy, rustic feel, diners tuck into international dishes such as king mackerel with radicchio tardivo, coconut and calamansi, as well as regional specialities such as pork bellygröstel(a traditional Tyrolean potato-based fry-up) with cucumber and butterhead lettuce. Order dishes to share à la carte or take a punt on the five-course surprise menu. The staff will be happy to provide wine recommendations. The well-curated selection is international and includes a decent range of natural wines (unfiltered and sulfite-free). Options are somewhat reduced at lunchtime." - Michelin Inspector

The 5-course surprise menu with caviar pairing was absolutely outstanding. Each dish was beautifully presented, creative, and full of flavor — from the perfectly charred vegetables to the thoughtful combinations throughout the courses. The caviar pairing elevated the experience and made the evening unforgettable. A special mention to our waiter, who was amazing — attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely warm. His service made the entire experience feel personal and memorable. Easily one of the best dining experiences in Zurich. Highly recommended and absolutely worth it!

I had dinner at Bauernschänke in Zurich last night and it was absolutely lovely. The food was nothing short of amazing – I’ve honestly never experienced such creative and well-balanced flavor combinations before. You can really tell that the chef knows exactly what he’s doing when it comes to flavors! The concept is all about sharing plates – they recommend 4 to 6 dishes for two people from their à la carte menu, but you can also order from their seasonal selection or go for the surprise menu if you’re feeling adventurous. Two absolute highlights for me: the churros with Gruyère cheese, which were unexpectedly addictive, and the dessert – a cookie with truffle – a real flavor explosion! The atmosphere is super cozy and relaxed, and the service was incredibly friendly and fast. All in all, a wonderful dining experience – I can’t wait to go back!

Atmosphere is nice. The food is overpriced for what it is even for Zurich standards. All the dishes were extremely salty and some fish dishes didn’t seem quite fresh. The beef was too chewy and in general none of the dishes was special. There were a lot of flavors combined but lacking of character. In addition, we got food poisoning right after returning home. For the price point service was also disappointing, the waiters didn’t even refill the waters or the wine. You would search for some time if you needed something. The dish names were just mentioned without really explaining every time the composition of the dish. Would have expected more from this restaurant and concept.

Easily the best meal I had in Zurich! The small plates menu meant that my partner and I were able to try loads of different dishes which we loved. The flavour combinations were amazing and different than what I would usually expect (like truffle with desert). They had a large selection of wines and the staff were able to make recommendations that my partner and I really enjoyed.

A nice place, with a small menu and original dishes. The dining room looks beautiful, the wine menu is probably one of the best in the city. Probably one of the top places to enjoy a meal.

I had the most incredible dining experience here! The food was sooo good. Every dish was a work of art. The staff attention to details was truly remarkable: we never had an empty glass or a dirty plate on the table. The wine pairing was also really good. The sommelier has a deep understanding of wine pairing, enhancing our dining experience even further. My favourite bite was the venison cheek at the beginning and the kaiseki style pudding. This is more than just a restaurant; it's an experience. If you're looking for a place to celebrate a special occasion or simply try new dishes this is the place to be. Thank you all for making our dinner so special!

Had a great experience at bauernschanke! I came solo and would love to come back with more people to experience more of the dishes. The servers were so helpful and friendly and even offered me a half order of the milk toast as they said it was a house special but came as an order for 2. Everything I ate was delicious and had complex, interesting flavors. I loved that there was great vegetarian options and they gave a piece of local chocolate to go at the end of the meal.

Amazing place only a few 100 meters from the main tourist pedestrian areas of Zurich. Great outdoor seating on a summer evening. Loved the vegetarian options, but all dishes very great and packed with flavor.

Yelp
What a gem in Zurich. I wasn't exactly sure if it was going to be as good as I hoped. I recently read some mixed reviews. However, don't let the negative ones influence your decision to go here. From the moment you walk in, the service is delightful. Attentive and friendly and not overbearing. The decor is simple and modern. They have two menu options. First is the a la carte and second is the surprise prix fixe option. We selected the a la carte so we could share more dishes. The sommelier suggested a beautiful French Chardonnay which paired perfectly with our meal. Do not miss the pork belly starter which is their take on an Asian taco or lettuce wrap. It is delicious and apparently the only signature item on the menu since inception. We then had the roe with herb crème Fraiche and homemade blinis. Sensational. We split the Brussel sprouts and fennel vegetable dishes. The flavors are so unique and the presentation gorgeous. We also shared the halibut main. Portions are nice and we were completely full. But we could not pass up their take on the iconic American Oreo cookie with dulce de leche ice cream and truffle topping. Omg.... The other desserts also were pure art in appearance. This spot is not to be missed. It is not inexpensive but the food, service and ambience justify it. It was wonderful and I cannot wait to come back.

Yelp
Took the team out for dinner here. It was an incredible experience. We let the sever and chef choose our adventure and we were not disappointed. Being a pescatarian, the server took that into account and made sure my items were veggie friendly and gosh friendly. We chose the 4 course pre-fix and it was incredible. From the fried fish skin "parties" to the lettuce wraps and braised pumpkin, we enjoyed the entire adventure. Pricing is not for the faint of heart but truly worth the experience. Be sure to make a reservation.

Yelp
Came here for lunch with high expectations, after seeing this restaurant being ranked #4 of Monocle's pick on world's top 50 restaurants. The service is excellent - all my three stars are for the service. The food is mediocre at most. I wasn't impressed at all.

Yelp
Absolutely horrible experience. My friend and I called out waiter Mr. Cranky Pants as we did not get a single smile or welcoming gesture. Then I ordered their signature dish and when it came out it was not what I ordered so I had to wait while my friend ate her lunch. Then the sausage and cheese salad was pretty bad. I had seen this salad the night before at another restaurant and it looked amazing. But here it tasted like a hotdog chopped up. I would have given it a 1 star if my friend hadn't liked her salad.

Yelp
Bauernschänke is a good choice for dinner after a long, tiring but fabulous day walking around zürich. especially if you are looking for somewhere affordable and tasty, which offers a selection (with or without meat) of local, as well as seasonal dishes. the atmosphere is traditional, but not kitschy and the service is super friendly and quick. i also thought it was a good sign that a lot of the other guests seemed to be locals.

Yelp
This was a wonderful evening the meal was delicious I had the venison cooked perfectly and the dipping sauce with the bread was incredible.

Yelp
I was in Zurich and I was looking so a place to have dinner away from the Tourist places. So I kept walking and I came to this gem. The food here is great. I ordered a Pear soup and it was so good. and Then I ordered the chicken with apricot sauce and wow that was awesome.

Yelp
Very tasty, off the beaten path with rustic, not touristy, atmosphere. The food was delicious, the beer was cold and good, and the service was excellent. I couldn't be more pleased.
