Denver Holiday Restaurant and Bar Guide | Eater Denver

"I found Baur’s to be one of Denver’s hottest brunch spots; for its Brunch and Cookie Decorating with Santa on Saturday, December 5 (9 a.m.–2:30 p.m.), children who purchase a brunch can meet Santa, decorate cookies, and string popcorn, while adults can enjoy a Belgian waffle and a mimosa (or two)." - Eater Staff

"The chic, rather imposing deluxe brasserie of the famous Baur au Lac hotel does full justice to the top-notch spirit of gastronomy with which the grand hotel is synonymous. It serves international cuisine firmly rooted in the classics and made with excellent ingredients. The wine list is compiled by one of the best sommeliers in the world." - Michelin Inspector

A Review of Baur Au Lac, Switzerland | Hotels Above Par

"An in-house brasserie designed by Martin Brudnizki that serves contemporary fare and Swiss classics in a flamboyant, maximalist setting—think amethyst pinks, pastel greens and oversized Murano chandeliers. The menu emphasizes seasonality but retains hearty, perennial dishes such as veal specialties and truffle pastas, making it a popular spot for both guests and locals."

Baur’s is a beautifully designed restaurant. The interiors are warm, refined, and thoughtfully styled, creating the perfect setting for a relaxed yet upscale meal. We ordered the lobster soup and the rocket salad to start. The lobster soup was flavorful with a nice depth, though I personally would have loved it to be slightly creamier. Still, it was enjoyable and well executed. The rocket salad was very fresh and surprisingly delicious. It was simple, but done exceptionally well. One of us ordered the wagyu, which was decent. The quality was good, but the flavor felt like it was missing something. Overall, Baur’s offers a beautiful atmosphere, attentive service, and well-prepared dishes. We enjoyed our time here and would recommend it, especially for the ambiance and starters.

Had a wonderful dinner with extraordinary food and an esoecialy good sommelier. Try the Dover sole, even better than Le Bernardin! Slightly disappoint ling was the hardness of the rosti and the lack of ice cream in the profiteroles. Super nice people working there and pleasant atmosphere.

We came here with expectations a bit on the high side, this being an age old Zurich establishment and all! We had the Brunch at their Baur Brasserie which is what this review is mainly for. We tried their Eggs Benedict, Rosti with Broccoli, poached egg and hollandaise sauce, kids menu items like waffles and pasta, drinks like Bloody Mary, Cappuccino. Overall food was above average but again nothing to brag about or spectacular! Drinks were really good and so was the kids menu. Service left a bit to be desired even though serving staff were helpful and friendly. Ambience and decor was amazing which wasn’t surprising given that this is a classic age old establishment. Be aware there is no parking on premises so you will need to find parking on the street nearby and walk a bit to this restaurant. We celebrated our younger son’s 3rd birthday here and while everything was okay, we wouldn’t be coming here again just for the food or service, which like I mentioned were just okay and not great! They do also charge something called tellergeld which is a table charge for 10 CHF per person, and even for small kids. While I have seen this charge across many other European countries I have travelled to, its not very common in Switzerland, and especially not at places which are not supposed to be tourist traps, so again this was a surprise to us. Nothing wrong but again we weren’t expecting this. Premises and hotel are classic age old establishment and something unique to be experienced! In the summary, not a great brunch spot, many other better options exist in Zurich, but come here for the ambience and the old world charm, may be to stay or dine at their other Restaurant Margarita.

As Swiss say, a tip top experience! I was in Zurich for a few weeks ago with my uncle’s recommendation to visit Baur’s. The experience didn’t disappoint! From the moment I entered the hotel to being seated and beyond the service was exceptional. I went on the Wednesday because they had the Wellington Wednesday service but they were sold out by the time I served- so book your seating early. The server did a great job of working with me to find an alternative dish with a paired wine. The food itself was delicious and well plated- it definitely had that Michelin star quality and the overall vibe of restaurant was excellent. Because of this experience I will definitely be staying at this hotel for future visits.

This has to be one of the best restaurants in town. The decor is fabulous, unique and calming at the same time. The food was flavourful, and done to perfection. Highly recommend their white asparagus if you happen to be there in season. All the goodness of asparagus without the bad. The Zurich style veal was mouthwateringly good as well, can highly recommend. My mother in law and I shared some dishes and they split it for us which is a wonderful touch. Our water glasses were refilled regularly, as were our wine glasses (we got a bottle). They accommodated several people joining us without a fuss. Overall a wonderful experience and we will be coming back! Do recommend making a reservation in advance (we got in but were staying at the hotel and it was low season).

Google
Beautiful space and very friendly staff at Baur‘s — the service was genuinely lovely. Unfortunately, the food and drinks felt quite standard: cappuccino from an automatic machine, Caotina hot chocolate, and dishes that didn’t really stand out. We were expecting something a bit more elevated given the setting and price range, especially since even a Coop Restaurant often offers better food quality. Overall, a pleasant visit thanks to the ambience and service, but we were hoping for more when it came to the food.

We went to Bauers for cocktails and dinner. The experience was good but not what we expected or equal to the price. The atmosphere is great, the service was overall good but we ordered wine by the glass and had to call the waiter over after the entrees were served for a 2nd glass. We both had the Wiener Schnitzel and the breading was dark and overcooked. The veal was dry. We've had much better and really expected this should have been on par at 51 francs, but it was not. The apple dessert was very good but the portion was underwhelming for 18 francs.

Yelp
Service was great! People really made effort to make you feel welcomed. Unfortunately the rib eye steak was far over-cooked. I got a medium well for medium rare which I ordered. Double checked with service provider and found he made no mistake. The kitchen did. The waiter and his supervisor kept apologizing. But, I felt strongly they could not do anything else. I feel very bad for not giving more than 12% tip. My heart said no tip. However, I followed my brain to tip, just a little less than what I normally did.

Yelp
We heard about this restaurant from a local and then accidentally stumbled upon it during our adventures! Thought it was a sign of fate to try it, and I'm glad we did! We walked in during a Sunday brunch without a reservation. Luckily, the staff was very sweet and made the accommodations work to be able to seat us immediately. However, I'd recommend making a reservation in the future! The restaurant quickly filled up, and others were not so lucky. We had the French toast and the cauliflower bowl. The cauliflower bowl was tasty, however, it was served cold, which I was not expecting! Meanwhile, the French toast was incredible!

Yelp
Baur's is a Michelin-starred establishment at Talstrasse 1 in Zurich, Switzerland, and presents a contemporary European gastronomic ambiance. The restaurant is located within a meticulously restored historic structure, and its interior is appointed with sophisticated furnishings and subdued lighting. Baur's is renowned for its inventive cuisine, inspired by the flavors of Switzerland and ,worldwide, and is prepared with seasonal, fresh ingredients. Among the frequently shifting signature dishes are the following: This entree of seared scallops accompanied by black truffle and caviar is a wealthy and abundant way to commence a meal. The black truffle and caviar add a touch of indulgence to the perfectly cooked scallops. This traditional dish, roasted duck breast with foie gras and blackberries, is elevated through premium ingredients and Baur's signature cooking methods. The duck breast is rendered immaculately cooked, while the foie gras and blackberries contribute a luscious and flavorful intricacy. Lobster tenderloin prepared with Wagyu beef and truffle sauce is a sensory delight. Incredibly tender and juicy Wagyu beef complements a lobster and truffle sauce that is opulent and decadent. This dessert at Baur's combines chocolate mousse, raspberry coulis, and hazelnut praline to create the ideal ending to a meal. With a touch of sweetness and crunch, the raspberry coulis and hazelnut praline complement the chocolate mousse, which is light and airy. Apart from the main course, Baur's provides a tasting menu showcasing the chef's most recent gastronomic innovations. A selection of wines from the restaurant's extensive wine list--more than 600 varieties from around the globe--is paired with each tasting menu item. At Baur's, the service is impeccable. The knowledgeable and attentive staff goes above and beyond to ensure that each diner has an unforgettable experience. Overall, Baur's is an establishment of international caliber that provides diners with an indelible palette. Elegant and refined in ambiance, the food and service are both of the highest caliber. It comes highly recommended to anyone in Zurich seeking a banquet venue for a special occasion.

Yelp
This restaurant has very modern slick interior design that you don't find often in Switzerland. Very attentive service and menu is in English. As soon as you sit, a jar of warm bread sticks and a cute saucer of olive oil, salt and red pepper are placed as complimentary. Most appetizers can be ordered as entrée. Risotto with truffle was very good. Creamy but not overly heavy. Shrimp & party comes with two huge shrimps but I didnt think it was any special. After dinner at the restaurant, my friend and I went to the bar right next to the main dining room. You get a cup of complimentary almonds for your drink. I tried lychee Martini, green jasmine martini and white Russian. All were excellent. Great place for business meal, drink or date night!

Yelp
Best dinner I've had in a year I just finished dinner with a group at Rive Gauche, and I cannot think of enough good things to say about it. Hands down, this was the best meal I have had in a year. The menu is a bit quirky -- dishes like Meet Bambi, a venison plate. But, the food was outstanding. I had the pumpkin soup to start and salmon for my main course. Everything was really well prepared. The decor of the place was nice and modern. I am not familiar with Zurich, so I cannot say whether the prices are typical, but compared to California, the food was a bit on the pricey side.

Yelp
A good feed and a swish-looking place, but I think it lacks atmosphere (and affordability!) for anything other than a business meal. My colleagues and I spent most of the meal wondering where everyone else was on a Wednesday night, given this place is in the centre of town and close to the river but stayed largely empty during our visit... Much as I love a good pun, the quirky 'meat our veggies' signs and cow pics outside didn't really fit with the sleek, modern decor inside. But I think the cows planted a mental suggestion that meant we all ended up ordering steak! The menu spans a bit of everything - fish, pasta, grills etc. Our server seemed truly baffled when we said we wanted one of each of the sides (except the rice) but this turned out to be perfect for 3 people to share. My medium rare NY strip steak was very tasty, esp when teamed with some bearnaise sauce and a scrumptious merlot that meant I could almost forget I had meetings starting early the next morning. Service was attentive, but I'd expect nothing less for a half empty restaurant. We finished up with some fresh mint tea and the accompanying free chocolates put a smile on my face. One that stayed there given I wasn't paying the c£70 a head bill!
