"After 18 years in the same building in Ipanema, Bazzar moved within the neighborhood to a livelier home inside a charming, airy 1920s mansion. Now renamed Bazzar à Vins, it’s what every wine bar wants to be: a great place to enjoy a selection of labels from small producers and excellent little bites. The focus is on seasonal, organic, and Brazilian ingredients — which restaurateur Cristiana Beltrão tirelessly seeks on trips across the country — translated into dishes such as a rustic egg with green bean puree and cheese sauce, or brothy caramelized seafood rice with Brazilian aromatic chile." - Rafael Tonon, Taylor Barnes

World class! Modern venue with amazing food. If you like scallops you MUST try the starter. The black garlic risotto with shrimp is also to die for. Starters 20-50 real, mains 45-110 real. Worth every penny. Our waiter was wonderful - Alessandro.

Google
Very nice experience, we had fish ‘chips’ with lemon which is somewhat similar to tartare/ceviche, beets plate, ribs and seafood risotto for two. Everything was great, except risotto was extremely salty but i didn’t want to upset the staff.

Google
Great place for a brazilian meal. We loved the surroundings, the helpful staff and the fantastic meals that we were served. Highly recommended.

Google
Oh my. This place was delectable. There was a sticker on the door stating it received a Michelin star some years back and it lived up to that. Some of the best food I’ve had in my life. I got the chicken and risotto and it simply melted gloriously in my mouth. 1000% recommend. Ambience is beautiful too. I got some great photos.

The waiters at this restaurant made it really difficult to accommodate the very normal dietary restriction of not eating meat (only fish). A conversation about swapping a fish dish with a chicken sauce to another dish or simply changing the sauce took about 10 minutes long, and I'm still not sure why they found it so difficult to understand. On top of this, my brother and I got very sick (sour stomach and diarrhea) after this meal. We had not eaten another meal besides some bread that day, so we are sure it was from this restaurant. For a place so expensive, the food was pretty meh - very bland. The orange wines weren't good either. Drinkable, but wouldn't get it again. Overall this was a huge, expensive disappointment. I guess when it rains, it pours because this place got bad marks in all possible aspects (bland food and drink, food getting you sick, bad waiters, expensive). Location is good, but if you're nearby go across the street to another restaurant and avoid this one like the plague.

Pricey but great food, the fresh bread is a lovely touch

Google
Upmarket place. Upmarket prices. Nice setting. Good service. Good food. Easily spend a few hours here. Too small outdoor area, too large indoor area. Way too cold in the indoor area to be able to sit there. Book a table outside, or choose other place for the evening.

Yelp
This is one of my new favorite restaurants in Rio. It's located in one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Ipanema, and has a very modern, open-air casual but sophisticated feel. The service is quiet and unobtrusive but absolutely spot on. They even were able to make an iced cappuccino which is no easy feat in Brazil where they few iced coffee as slightly blasphemous. I started with a wonderful salad of delicate baby greens with white beans and tomato tartare with a cashew fruit vinaigrette. Fantastic! Perfectly dressed. One of my many annoying pet peeves is heavy handed dressing but, never fear, this one is superb. For my main, I chose the braised lamb sandwich with spearman pesto, rustic mustard and pineapple chutney with french fries. The lamb is incredibly tender and perfectly seasoned. The play between the herby pesto, acid mustard and sweet pineapple (with subtle Indian flavors) was fantastic. Wonderful lunch from start to finish.

Yelp
My group of 4 came for a nice dinner. Wine was great. Appetizers were okay. Entrees were very bad; our steaks were all overcooked and our risotto was undercooked. Two of the meals were sent back, and took about 30 minutes to be fixed, by which time, the others were almost finished with their meals. Also, during our meal, we also witnessed a patron at the table next to ours also send her steak back. Clearly, they do not know what they're doing. Then, we got the bill and saw that they charged us R$35.80 for the few pieces of bread we had before the meal. Mind you, we had racked up a R$550 bill for wine and dinner, so to be charged for few pieces of bread is bull. I was so angry when I left. If you like paying a lot and getting little of anything good in return, go to Bazzar. Otherwise, spend your money elsewhere.

Yelp
Came here for dinner since it had good reviews on Yelp and we had a nice dinner. The staff was friendly and the food was good although at times it seemed like it took forever to get someone to our table. Before ordering our food, the sommelier came to our table to ask if we wanted to have any wine. I told him I was going to order a steak and if they had any cabs that were good. He comes back a minute later with sparkling wine... we were so confused. It was nowhere near what we wanted to drink, but we felt bad that he had gone through the trouble of going to get the sparkling. Anyway, we ordered the vegetable moqueca to share. This was amazing. The flavors were to die for. I kind of wish I had a bowl of that right now. When it came to our entrees we ordered the filet that came with brie risotto and some apricot jelly. This was great too. The filet was cooked perfectly and the risotto was delicious. We did not get any dessert since we were really full, but I would recommend it for a nice dinner. The atmosphere is really nice as well. The reason for 4 stars and not 5 were because of the issue with the wine and the fact that our waiter took forever to come take our order.

Yelp
We tried the queijo de cabra da fazenda genève com pistache, azeite de manjericão, creme de beterraba com castanha de caju e pasta de azeitona, which translate to a goat cheese terrine with three sauces - pistachio/basil sauce, beet/cashew nut pesto, olive tapenade. Not too bad. Also the caldinho de siri com torrada de focaccia, brotos de coentro e fio de azeite, which translates to a crab bisque with sour cream, focaccia toasts, and chervil sprouts. Disappointing. And finally, the moqueca de palmito pupunha e banana-da-terra com arroz vermelho, which translates to diced hearts-of-palm in creamy coconut milk and palm tree oil sauce, with diced plantains and wild red rice with grilled shrimps. We enjoyed this dish and will probably return to try more dishes as the first visit was not as remarkable as reputed.

Yelp
This was a pleasant surprise and I can't wait to try other dishes from their menu. It is great to have good dining options in Rio. This has changed a lot (for the better) over the past few years.

Yelp
One of the most amazing meals of my life. You can't be the combo of traditional Brazilian food with a high end and creative twist. I had the famous filet mignon dish with the Brie risotto--and oh my god--cannot understate how great the risotto/meat was. I was so full but I couldn't bear the thought of leaving the dish unfinished.

Yelp
Really enjoyed my meal here! They have indoor and outdoor seating. We ate outside and the weather was perfect. There are fans outside. The service was very unobtrusive but good. The waiter spoke some English, and we got along fine. They offer a giant tray of bread to start and you can pick home much you want. They bring out olive oils and butters for the bread. I got the grilled cobia entree which was perfectly cooked. My coworker got the lamb sandwich which I liked, it was very tender with some nice sauces on it. We finished with the passionfruit and chocolate mousses. Both were very good though I liked the chocolate one more. Also, I got a Pisco Sour (it was called something slightly different) which was the best drink I had in Rio. The bill came to about $360 Relais (about $60 USD/person). Definitely nice for a fancy meal in Ipanema.

Yelp
Great food and drinks! Was a bit spendy; but again, hard to go wrong and I felt you got great tasting food at great value. I'd definitely recommend this as a place to stop and eat; and can't say that about every place in Rio. The service was also pretty decent.

Yelp
It's expensive, but good. I guess with recommending a restaurant the real challenge is determining whether or not it's worth it, and whether or not you'd recommend it. This is where I'm a bit stuck. I'm giving it four stars because the food, service, and ambiance were good. Unfortunately, the type of steak I ordered is slipping my mind, which is normally a sign that it wasn't that great. It was good, don't get me wrong, but what sticks out in my mind was the little side dish that came with it. OK just looked it up - my dad had the Bife Ancho (Rib Eye Steak) and absolutely loved it. I had the Bife de Chorizo Angus and the side dish was a heart of palm gratin with black garlic. It was incredible. I spent a good 5 minutes just trying to figure out what the flavors were and was still wrong in the end. If they had a plate of just that I would order it in a heartbeat. It was steaming hot, full of subtle flavor, looked good, tasted like a dream. I could eat it every day. If you go there, I highly recommend getting that side dish. I'm going to try to order it by itself next time, it would be great with beef cut up in it, or chicken. On second thought, I think I'll just get the same thing again.

Yelp
Very nice environment, atmosphere and service. The drinks are creative and good. The food is outstanding.

Yelp
An example of high end, modern brazilian cuisine infused with worldly techniques and flavors. One of our favorite dining experiences in Rio while visiting for a few days. The clientele is well dressed and international. Definitely not a locals place to casually hang out after a day at the beach. The food looks as sharp as the crowd, and tastes great.

Yelp
Best meal I had in Rio hands down, even better than Fogo de Chao. Friend and I split many, many appetizers and entrees for brunch. Food was prepared excellently and while it obviously played more to international tastes, still kept the Brazilian spirit, at least I thought. Great atmosphere and would highly recommend, especially since nice fine-dining experiences seem to be limited in Rio.

Kat S.

Yelp
The food was the most amazing unique combinations and the service was above my expectations. Highly recommend for an upscale yet relaxed date night.

Yelp
Great place and great food. Portions are a little huge but great ambiance and service, and a good fine dining Brazilian/American fusion experience

Salena L.

Yelp
Came here alone and during the week so the restaurant was quiet, but nonetheless the ambiance was pleasant, modern, and upscale. I ordered the filet mignon which was great, but was accompanied by a sweet risotto which I found much too sugary to be served with an entree - so much so that I declined dessert. Overall a nice place for a date, quiet conversation, or to go alone for dinner with a good book.

Yelp
Fantastic. Beautiful chill space...If you want to rest your horrible tourist Portuguese, many of the staff speak good English and / or Spanish. I had an excellent fish of the day special, aperol spritzes, and the scallop appetizer was awesome. I sat at the bar, loved the people watching...commensurate with Chicago pricing for the menu, no complaints from me. Will return for sure!

Yelp
This was my favorite restaurant in Rio for my vacation. The food was excellent. The atmosphere very nice. The service was great. Definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
Excellent food, nice atmosphere and smart service. Good organic wines selection and excellent Brazilian wines too. I had the duck carpaccio. Unmissable. The chocolate mousse with 60% Cacau also a must.

Lee K.

Yelp
Inventive and delicious, this is definitely one of the best options in Impanema. The staff spoke enough English to help us with things, even though the menu was translated. It's on the pricey side but everything tasted fresh and well thought out.

Gabriela R.

Yelp
Contemporary restaurant and one of my favorites in Rio. The food is great and the environment is very pleasant. They serve special types of bread/toast with olive oil and a lightly seasoned butter as couvert, which are pretty good. And as a main, I recommend the steak dish that comes with sweet and sour apricot sauce! (They give you the option of ordering half a portion)

Yelp
Really wonderful experience. We were staying in Ipanema and wandering around the neighborhood looking for dinner. We stumbled upon Bazzar, looked at the menu and kept walking. Something brought us back, probably the beautiful wood architecture and open patio seating and an array of happy patrons sipping sparkling Rosé. I'm so glad we came back. The food is marvelous. We had an incredible pear salad and a delicious steak tartare. The best part is they have great, although expensive, wine by the glass. And the pour is enormous. Everywhere we've visited has only a garbage house wine by the glass, but Bazzar offers a nightly selection of freshly opened bottles from their cellar by the glass. We had a sparkling, a red and a white. All of which were delicious and well-paired to our dishes. We shared the prime rib, which was prepared perfectly and was accompanied by a savory hearts of palm gratin, as well as the tuna steak, which was prepared in an Asian-fusion style and was equally as delicious. English was spoken well enough. The service was impeccable.

Yelp
While we were seated on a couch on the outdoor patio, a COCKROACH climbed up onto the couch, onto the table, and across our PLATES. We stood up from the table while the valet assistant (not even the waiter) killed the cockroach. When we told the waiters and moved inside, the head waiter smiled at us and told us that there was absolutely nothing he or anyone at the restaurant could do about preventing cockroaches from entering the restaurant, as "they cannot control the cockroaches from the street". The staff did not offer to take the bill (as we both felt they should have), and did not apologize (because they did not want to take responsibility for the incident). Instead, as we were paying the bill, the head waiter brought us a jar of jam to take home as a consolation - still without an actual apology. If a restaurant is going to have a seated outdoor patio, there is absolutely NO excuse for cockroaches entering the space and climbing up onto tables and across plates. We no longer feel that the restaurant meets even low standards for cleanliness - and the staff did very little to better the situation. Sad we wont be going back to our favorite restaurant in Ipanema.
