"This Korean-based brand returned to San Diego and now boasts locations throughout the San Diego area, in addition to its Convoy Street restaurant. Its twice-fried chicken wings are available in a number of creative flavors, including maple syrup with garlic and butter, Chinese mala seasoning, and gangjeong sauce, which incorporates soy sauce with cinnamon and chilies." - Candice Woo

"When it first opened in Kearny Mesa way back in 2008, BB.Q Chicken was one of the only local purveyors of Korean-style fried chicken, also known as the other KFC. An early offshoot of a Korean-based company that was first founded in 1995, the Convoy Street location would shutter in 2013, a year before the brand’s official launch in the U.S. in 2014. Now that BB.Q Chicken has outposts coast to coast, from New York to Seattle, and 13 branches in California alone, the chain is returning to San Diego to join our ever-growing contingent of KFC options. It’s landed once again on Convoy Street, moving into the Convoy Village Shopping Center where it replaces Ichiro, the Japanese restaurant that closed in January after a 36-year run. A rep for the company says the restaurant should be opening within two months. Purported to have the world’s first “chicken university” for research and development, BB.Q Chicken (BB.Q stands for “best of the best quality”) differentiates itself by frying its chicken in olive oil. It offers a wide array of flavors of bone-in and boneless fried chicken, from Golden Original to Honey-Garlic, Hot Spicy, and Cheeseling, a seasoning mix of powdered cheese. Other dishes include tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), fried dumplings, and kimchi fried rice." - Candice Woo

This place has been my go-to Korean fried chicken. However, our recent takeout experience wasn’t so good. Partially, I think I have too high of experience but just want to share my review. By all means, the gangnam chicken wings were still tasty but wings were smaller than before. The chicken sandwich was spicy but not crispy enough and lack of other flavors. I might start making trips to other joints.

Going to here is like a breath of fresh air! I love the music, the shows they played on the TV, and the posters they have on their walls. Their service is really nice and the food, especially the cheeseling fries is so good!🥰

First time here and tried the honey garlic wings and soy garlic wings. The 8 pieces was good enough for me so it depends on your appetite. They honey garlic was sweet and tasteful so try it if that's what you're looking for.

We just left this place and If I can give a negative star I would!!! 5:10pm. we left very upset. our family ordered wings and fries, cheese fries. 1 there's not enough staff to help out and only 1 person to attend (Keep in mind it was slow and there were not even 5 tables full! The waiter forgot the beer, forgot the ranch. My husband asked the cashier/waiter that she forgot about the beer, and she said OKAY. She brought out first the cheese sticks and the Wings of Fire. Then she took another 10 mins. and brought out the Soy Garlic Fries, Popcorn chicken with fries, and the " Spicy Galbi". another 5-10 min. pass and then she brings the cheesling fries, but we had seen them just sitting waiting. My husband gets 1 fry, and they are not even hot in temp. They are room temp border line cold. So, we get the waitiers attention and mentioned this to her and she mentions she needs the manager. We say okay call the manager... Then my father in law tries the Spicy Galbi (THIS WAS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO ANY SPICY, tasted like the regular Galbi). We see a lady come out from behind the kitchen they exchange words in a different language and then laugh. that lady goes to a room which is the manager's office. The waiter takes another 10 min. Waiter approaches us and mentions they cannot refund back for the fries and can exchange it, We didn't want the fries at this point specially since we were already almost done. then I bring up the Galbi wings that are not spicy, at this point she says she's not in charge and we mentioned to her to call the Manager. By now these fries are extra cold. To summarize the manager afte requesting her didn't want to come talk to us, eventually I get up and start walking to her and she begins walking to our table. We mentioned to her the situation, and she begins to give us an attitude. The Fries were at the edge of the table and She touched the fries multiple times with her full hand flipping it back and forth then pressed down on them and said they were Still Warm; I told her they been sitting out for more than 20 min.! I told her if she would've come out when I requested a manager she would've realized it. It was only about the Fries and the Spicy Galbi. She was so adamant that she was correct, she then told me "Is this your first time here?" Yes, and last one we responded. She mentioned that the wings are all prebagged and they have no control of the sauces. Umm they said this was fresh? but i guess not. It was easy things they could've corrected, but they didn't until they noticed the frustration and more customers coming in when this "Boss" even denied that she was in charge. False Advertising, manager needs better training and she didn't want to give her name, but here is a picture of her attached. Personally, I will not change my review because this was not correct in any level starting off with an attitude, saying we are wrong when we are not and telling me when things are spicy and temp difference. I have had better Service at McDonalds on their fries and no complains when I tell them it's cold. There were cameras so they can review them.

I tried their spicy galbi flavor, and while it tasted good, it wasn’t really spicy and felt pretty mediocre overall. The chicken was a bit chewy instead of crispy, which was a letdown. On the bright side, I really enjoyed the cheeseling fries – they were the highlight of the meal for me

One of our favorite spots for Korean Fried Chicken! Always so crispy and freshly made. Juicy too! Customer service has not failed us so far and hopefully it never does. They have a good amount of flavors and options to try so don’t be shy!

The Kimchi Fried Rice from BBQ Chicken is an exquisite blend of flavors that takes your taste buds on a journey through Korea's culinary delights. With every bite, you are transported to the vibrant streets of Seoul, where the aroma of sizzling spicy rice fills the air. As you take your first scoop of this delectable dish, you are hit with a burst of umami that immediately captures your attention. The rice is perfectly cooked, with each grain coated in a savory sauce that carries the bold flavors of kimchi. The distinct tangy and sour notes from the fermented cabbage dance across your palate, leaving a delightful sensation of heat that lingers on your tongue. But this dish is not just about the kimchi - it is a symphony of tastes and textures. As you delve deeper, you encounter small morsels of succulent chicken, adding a hint of sweetness and richness to the earthy mix of vegetables and rice. The chicken is tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned, providing a delightful contrast to the crunch of the fresh scallions and the crispness of the bok choy. Amazing customer service, as soon as you walk to the counter you are greeted. They have two types of service , take out or dine in. The vibe of dining in will make you feel at home. The staff come check up on you every 10 minutes and always walking around for quicker service if needed for any extra accommodation or service. Parking here will be a challenge but it's worth dining inside this welcoming restaurant.
