A Massive Korean Fried Chicken Chain Will Open in Katy - Eater Houston

"BB.Q Chicken, a Korean fried chicken chain with hundreds of locations across the globe, will soon open an outpost in Katy. The new location joins more than a thousand locations across the globe, including restaurants in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Boston, and New York City. Founded in 1995 in Korea, the chain is known for its crispy chicken that’s fried in olive oil, which it claims makes for a crispier, healthier product. After it’s fried, the chicken can be served straight-up, or tossed in spicy or honey-garlic sauce." - Amy McCarthy

Tried this place on a whim and the gangjeong chicken is so good. Ive been back a handful of times in the last few weeks because the chicken is that good. The people are also very friendly. Ive mostly seen Christina when I went in and she is very nice

Google
Went in for a night bite and these wings were so delicious!!! The employee was super friendly and answered all of our questions regarding allergens! Ordered the honey garlic which are very safe for those that can’t handle spice but love a saucy wing!! The Gangnam Style have a strong pepper smokey flavor that’s very reminiscent of BBQ sauce. The best way I could describe the taste would be the Korean version of American BBQ sauce! These didn’t really have that “wow” factor to them in my PERSONAL experience since it’s a taste that can easily be found elsewhere. The spicy original were not spicy at all, but they were delicious nonetheless!! The wing of fire were on the spicy side, but to me it was more of a yangnyeom sauce. If you are not used to spicy food I wouldn’t recommend these because they are on the spicier side. Now if you’re used to spicy these have a nice spicy kick to them that pairs amazingly with the pickled radish. The location has a dining area and it’s not that busy since many people do pick up orders. I’ve also been here during lunch hour on a Saturday and they had plenty of seating.

Google
I’m a huge fan of bb.q Chicken and have eaten at many locations — but this was the first time I felt disappointed. The chicken was delicious and the service was good, but the wing sizes were shockingly small, especially for such an expensive place. As you can see in the photo, the size difference between pieces is unacceptable. I really felt like I got shortchanged. I hope this location takes note, because I love bb.q Chicken and would like to keep enjoying it without feeling ripped off.

Google
Can’t believe I just paid $36 dollars for this. I ordered through Uber Eats. The price is not including tax+fee+tip. My friends and I order from them all the time. They used to be so good. Not in the most recent 3 orders I’ve made, even in store or thru the app. The chicken pieces have been so thin and dried and oily, and I barely see the cheese powder anymore. This is the picture of 18 pieces cheeseling boneless for $36 dollars. I ate 1 piece before taking the pic. After the first bad experience, we thought it was just a small batch and didn’t mind much. However 3 consecutive times is a flag. As much as I used to love this place, I need to find another one now. I hope they give good quality kfc like they used to again. Sincerely.

Google
We love ordering takeout here! It’s fast, efficient, and great quality. Our favorite is soy garlic wings, secret sauce wings, and honey garlic wings. I like how they’re not skimpy on the radishes here. Some other places will charge you for radish

Google
Definitely a place to go-to if you enjoy being ignored and handed cold food. Staff here are not very friendly and couldn't be bothered to mention that there was a 35 minute wait until after you paid, thanks for that David H. It was pretty empty when we arrived with just us and one other couple. We sat there waiting for our food until everything on the counter was gone. We kept waiting and waiting and nothing. Then I saw the group which ordered way after we did get their order so I went to ask if they had forgotten our order. The guy at the counter finally pulls up my order that has been sitting there for God knows how long. By then it was completely cold and soggy. Just wasted 30 bucks, thanks for nothing.

Google
One order is never enough. It’s so good I always wanna go back again the next day. I love the galbi and the Caribbean spice. The spicy golden original is really good too. I plan to try all the flavors eventually.

Google
Friendly staff. A lot of variety of crispy chicken. They use olive oil to deep fry their chicken. My family loves it but unfortunately I couldn’t eat it as it tasted weird. I’m sure it’s an individual preference but the way it was deep fried, it looks amazing and crispy.

Yelp
I am a loyal lover of BB.Q, however my experience yesterday left the most awful taste for this establishment. I am completely disgusted by my experience with my pick up order. I expressed during my call for specifics to my food, the associate over the phone stated there would be not problem. When I arrived and was not satisfied with the quality of my food I requested further attention to my concern. The associate was atrociously rude, making faces at my request that were belittling and completely embarrassing. His responses were condescending in general. He treated me as if I am not a loyal, paying customer. My request was so small. Extra sauce, and the customer service for something so simple was made to be a horrific experience.

Yelp
Really overpriced. Flavors were not was expected. You do get a lot of chicken, but if you don't get the right flavor it doesn't matter.

Yelp
This has to be my favorite Korean fried chicken spot! Their chicken never disappoint at all. Even if you order to go and drive for 20 minutes . The chicken is still super crispy . I'm still amazed how crispy it is still when it's steaming inside a box for 20 minutes . The soy garlic is my go to sauce for the chicken wings . Also the original is also very good as well . Service was fast and efficient. It is not really a place to dine in it's more of a go and grab and eat at home. I also got the rice cake they were okay. Nothing great I'll give the rice cake 3/5 . They plenty of parking so you don't have to worry about parking.

Yelp
I've been to this location several times and I didn't realize that I never left a review...this has to be some of the best fried chicken I ever had...I got the 9pc honey garlic boneless...extremely crispy and juicy...the taste is out of this world...I also got some fries with parmesan cheese added...everything came out hot and fresh...the service is also good...the workers are super friendly and patient...there's plenty of parking...so you never have to worry about parking...I will always come back and you should come too

Yelp
This is the best fried chicken I have found. Yea it's a chain but the chicken alone stands against anything I have had in ATL and NOLA. The spicy crispy is still the best. If you don't want spicy you can get it without or Soy/Garlic is a good option. This spot was perfect. Family owned/small/inventory out in the open very very charming. Service was on point, I knew what to order but the peeps that came in that were new got a great description of thing. I may try a Cupbop next time just to eat something different......naaaaaaaaa

Yelp
Came to Houston to visit family and come across BBQ chicken Katy 5min away. We ordered to go and quick service. Very clean. My nieces tried Korean bbq chicken wings for the first time... they Love it ! We ordered garlic and spicy soy sauce. It was delicious flavors and crispy .

Yelp
I just finished eating their original half fried chicken and soy garlic chicken wing, it was the best Korean fried chicken I ever had! By the time I got home after I picked up the order it was already 45 minutes later but to my surprise Chicken with still crispy and very juicy with amazing flavors. I strongly recommend their fried chickens.
google avatar

Victoria N.

Yelp
Food is always consistently good and service is great here! I always get the soy garlic wings and sweet potato fries.
google avatar

Yelp
Same great food as all the other locations! Would stop again for the amazingly crispy crunchy chicken!

Yelp
They had been on my list to try for a while now. I placed my order online. You get 9 wings fried crispy for $14. I ordered the honey garlic and they were delicious. They were fried just right for me. Not too crispy. I didn't order any sides this time but may try out a few in the next order. They will be my go to place when I want a change from my regular options.
google avatar

Ryland T.

Yelp
Chicken was pretty good texture wise. The batter was crispy but the sauce was a little weak. The flavors weren't really there. It was lacking a bit. Service otherwise was good and the environment was clean.

Yelp
Pro: Great chicken to be had! In a search for some fried "yard bird" in the outskirts of Houston, I was absolutely delighted to find this place! BB.Q offers an amazing Korean twist on an American staple. The Golden Original Chicken was fried nicely without being too greasy. Not to be outdone was the Bulgogi Fries. This order of marinated meat sitting over some good ol' sticks of potatoes is sure to stick to one's ribs! And for the chicken wing enthusiasts who prefer their bird on the saucy and spicy side, the Spicy Galbi Wings were just that: saucy and spicy! Not only did I enjoy every bite, I returned to the place the same day to savor the flavor! Yes, I liked it that much! Con: Ordering online versus over the phone for takeout actually costs a slight bit more due to service charges. Meh...small price to pay. Bottom Line: Twice on one day...yes! I did that...and might do it again!

Yelp
Great chicken. The flavors are spot on. Although I wish the spicy was a bit spicier. Unfortunately, they have to tailor a bit to the weak humans that can't handle true spice, so that's a bit understandable. I'd rate them higher, but the prices are a bit on the high side. Overall good food, and good service; I've used their deliver several times with very good success.

Yelp
Super good Korean fried chicken in a casual atmosphere. The sides we got were very good. One of them was a corn thing that I can't remember the name of, but it was tasty. The star is the chicken, though. The woman working the counter was very nice.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for lunch with my friends and had some boneless chicken of different flavors . Original , honey and garlic. Very flavorful Korean food ! Only wish they had this in Florida. We also had sticky rice and pickled radishes that were really nice once I tried them .

Yelp
We arrived at 8 and was pretty empty here. My son wanted some snacks so we ordered a medium size wings, fries and cheese sticks. I asked for recommendations since it was our first time but the guy at the counter didn't seem to care to offer any input on the food they're selling. That should have been the first red flag. After he rang us up and I paid he then tells us it's going to be 35 to 40 mins. Ohhh... Ok I guess since I already paid I'll wait. So we sat there and waited... and waited and waited. By 9 I just wanted to ask for a refund and leave so I went back to the counter and the older guy that has been standing there the whole time looking at us asks what's our name and hands me my order that was sitting behind him the entire time. He just said sorry and proceeds to hand me my order. When I checked it was completely cold, I should have returned it and asked for a refund but wife was tired and just wanted to leave. Staff here obviously couldn't care less and are more than happy to take your money before letting you know it will be close to an hour and the food will be cold. Never coming back to any BBQ chicken, service is terrible and cold fried food is terrible.

Yelp
Had this place a few times and used to enjoy it in the past. However, it feels like quality has changed a bit. I ordered the garlic soy and a spicy galbi wings. Compared to previous visits, there was barely any sauce and subsequently less flavor . The skin was severely lacking crispiness as well. Not sure if it was a fluke but the past 2 or so times I have gone it has been similar in quality. I think what I value most in kfc is the blend of a well sauced wing while also maintaining a really crispy crunch and it hasn't been like this in a while.

Yelp
Ordered about 40 minutes ago and this place is full of people who haven't received their orders. Bunch of angry people.

Yelp
We ordered to go. The service was really nice and friendly, we were greeted immediately and they were also very patient as we were looking over the menu. The pricing is on par with all the other Korean Fried Chicken places around Houston. The place is very clean which is always a plus. Like all the other Korean Fried Chicken shops, it's made to order so expect to wait at least 20-30 minutes for your chicken. I promise you it's worth the wait! Combo Wings (5 stars) with Secret Sauce and Soy Garlic. They were both amazingly delicious and super crunchy. We thought the 20 minutes ride home would make it less crispy...nope didn't happen. The chicken was perfectly cooked, it's really juicy on the inside. We love both of the sauces but if we had to choose one...it's the Soy Garlic. We love that they include the Pickled Daikon as well, wish more places would do that. We were very happy with our KFC and would definitely order more chicken from them in the future. Need to try different flavors and other things on the menu as well.

Andy B.

Yelp
My family of five was greeted with, "There will be an 18% gratuity added to your bill. Are you okay with that?" We agreed, as that's our usual tipping amount for average service. After a 15-minute wait, we realized orders are placed and paid for at the counter, where the gratuity is added immediately. I noticed it was calculated after sales tax, which seems wrong. The chicken was decent but not as good as Bonchon or Hoodadak. The breading was very thick, and it tasted oily, like Church's Chicken. You clear your own table and throw away your trash. The setup is like a fast-food joint, so I'm unsure what the gratuity is for. ---

Yelp
From the very helpful staff to the DELICIOUS chicken...highly recommend. We tried three different flavors and will be back for sure. My favorite was the spicy pork bowl with rice. .

Yelp
Best korean chicken ever, like even the boneless ones are good. It's juicy and has great flavor, I personally love the soy garlic. And the service was great, the guy at the front Joey was really nice and super helpful. I'll definitely be coming back.

Bob C.

Yelp
Best fried chicken in Katy. Get the bone in wings! Super crunchy and full of flavor. I've tried like 5 different flavors and enjoyed them all. Just depends what mood I'm in. Definitely worth trying. Be careful you might get hooked.

San W.

Yelp
Food quality has improved dramatically since my first review. I WISH there were less sweet options without going into melt-your-face territory but still a SIGNIFICANT improvement!

Yelp
Food was awesome but they've got some unusual dining practices. Food We ordered 3 orders of wings. Gangnam style wings, secret sauce, and spicy galbi. Of the 3, the first 2 were the best-tons of flavor and skin was crispy. The spicy galbi was tasty, but it wasn't anything that you can't get elsewhere. The medium orders comes with 9 each and for 2 people this was a lot of food. You eat this with pickled radish or ranch, we tried both and thought the radish was a little more unique and added a little contrast to the rich flavors from the wings. We also to-goes a LA Galbi cupbob. The meat was really tender and flavorful , but the overall dish was alright. Plain jasmine rice with a handful of lettuce. What we thought was a little different was everything was in plastic containers, even the utensils. When we asked for water, we were told they didn't have any and that we would have to buy water from them. A little unique for sure, but we'll definitely return to try the remaining flavors.

Joel C.

Yelp
Korean fried chicken is just simply the best. Batter and flavor is great and the side dishes are delicious. Well run store and very consistent when I order for pickup.

Felipe P.

Yelp
The food was amazing. I've been to BB.Q chicken in the state I'm from, and they don't hold a match to this place. I didn't realize it was supposed to be so crispy and fluffy. Out of 4 different restaurants, this first time here is number 1!

Kim T.

Yelp
I been to this place many times and couple times the ordered wasn't right and i let it slide...but this time was the worse ordered ever. My Medium size wings i placed order was so tiny...unbelievable how could they charged $17 something and mix these tiny wings in the box, I thought it was crumbs from the flour they fried.

Kat S.

Yelp
You should change your hours posted. You are not open til 10. We got there 915 and they said they dont take orders anymore.
google avatar

Amneris G.

Yelp
Amazing!!!!! Best Korean fried chicken in Houston! Definitely will be going back to try all the available sauces
google avatar

Renko R.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of korean fried chicken and always willing to try a restaurant when I see one. I usually just get chicken without and glazed sauce on it, but these flavors were good... and so many options to choose from.
google avatar

Thuy V.

Yelp
I gave been several times, but this time was a strange. The server took my order, but did't ask which size I wanted and automatically selected the large size. He sent the order to the kitchen before I even paid so a lot of assumptions were made on my behalf. I would advise that you be present and pay attention to what they were charging you and make sure you ask for a receipt.
google avatar

Nhi V.

Yelp
My #1 place for Korean fried chicken. I didn't notice there was a difference until i try a lot of chicken places. Some are too soft, too soggy, or lacks texture. BBQ chicken delivers every time, with crunchy crispy skin and soft meat. I think one notable difference is that the outer crunch comes in flakes instead of one uniform layer. Soy garlic is my absolute fav.
google avatar

Stephanie H.

Yelp
they're only offering take-out at the moment so we ordered ahead of time after reading other reviews and then took our food to a nearby park to devour. I had high expectations for the original olive chicken because I saw actors eating it in kdramas (CLOY + The King) and it seemed so crispy! However, my favorite ended up being the honey garlic wings (10/10 recommend getting it!!!!). The honey garlic wings were not only flavorful and saucy but also very crispy, and biting into it produces a loud crunch sound that's so satisfying. The secret spicy chicken was coated in a sweet chili sauce and flavorful, but it was more on the soggy side. Overall, all of the chicken was very juicy and tender for white meat. This place is one of the higher-quality KFC places in Houston! I'd def eat more often if it weren't 40+ mins from my house.
google avatar

Yelp
DELICIOUS CHICKEN. Best Korean fried chicken I've ever had!! The spicy crispy chicken wings were delicious with a slight kick and great crisp. Reminds me of the China KFC spicy wings (they're delicious). We got it to go and it was still crispy after about 20-30 minutes
google avatar

Yelp
BB.Q Chicken is hands down the best Korean fried chicken restaurant currently in Houston! From start to finish, the service is on point and the chicken comes out as crispy as can be. For apps, I recommend their tteokbokki, which is a spicy Korean rice cake dish if you've never had it before. The contrast between the chewy rice cakes, soft fish cakes, SPICY sauce, and gooey cheese on top makes this so addicting! It comes out piping hot and just makes you want to eat more of it. For wings, I highly recommend getting BONE IN wings. They are a little more work to eat that boneless wings, but they seem to be juicier and crispier when the bone is still there. As far as flavors go, I like the WINGS of FIRE, soy garlic wings, and gangnam style wings in that order. The spiciness of the Wings of Fire is what gets me to keep coming back, the soy garlic wings always come out extra crispy, and the gangnam style wings are the unique choice that you can't find anywhere else. With bites of their complimentary pickled daikon to cool off your mouth and a cold beer on tap, this restaurant is sure to please anyone! I will definitely be back here soon, and I HIGHLY recommend it to others! Thanks for opening a Houston/Katy location so I don't have to make the drive to Dallas for these addicting wings.

Yelp
So in love! 99% of the time, I do not leave a review the same day, but a couple hours later and I am still drooling over this entire menu! We ordered a bulgogi rice bowl and it was delicious, the perfect amount of juice from the meat is topped over the rice and the salad on the side was really good and the light, but flavorful dressing had a party in my mouth. I LOVE traditional bone in chicken, but the boneless wings are just as delightful and crispy. I really don't know what was my favorite....the garlic soy or the Gangnam. They are actually paired perfectly together. Sweet and spicy. There are so many restaurants to try in Katy, that I often don't visit the same more than once or twice, but this is a new family favorite! I can't wait to be back It's been 27 days since I last ate here and that was too long!! My husband finished his food without talking the entire time and said, "awesome". Delicious! The to go packaging is awesome too!

Minh Xuan N.

Yelp
Came here because we didn't want to drive too far for korean chicken wings and wanted to try somewhere new to us. Service was horrible. The cashier had no smile and seemed like he didn't want to be there. Tried their original BB wings and the soy garlic. Original had great crunch and was fresh. The soy garlic was extremely sweet, and I'm most positive they messed up our order because it did not taste like they had any soy in it. Rather, it tasted more like honey garlic, but since we waited awhile for the wings, we didn't want to make it an issue. Also tried their galbi boneless wings, which were huge...but had a weird after taste. Overall, I would come back for the original bbq wings and MAYBE will try other flavors next time.

Yelp
We've ordered from BB.Q Chicken through Uber Eats and have liked it, but it was our first time eating in the restaurant. The soy garlic sauce is popular and delicious, and the sauce that we usually choose to toss with our wings, but this time around was subpar. You would think that the wings would be better right when they come out of the kitchen and not through delivery, but we were surprised and disappointed. The wings were tossed in barely any soy garlic sauce, leaving little to no flavor at all, and it just tasting plain. They also only gave one tiny cup for ranch and charged for any additional. We also ordered Bulgogi fries, and the shredded cheese on top was still cold and some were melted and not mixed in well with the fries. The prices are also very steep for what you get, not really making it worth. Either BB.Q chicken has definitely fallen off and I guess better to order through Uber Eats, or we just overall were not impressed and won't be back.

Yelp
First time trying this place and had a nice experience eating KFC (Korean Fried Chicken)! My friends and I tried a spread of various items on the menu. For starters, the friendly staff gave us daikon and corn salad. These were the perfect palate cleansers and the perfect thing to prep our tummies for the sticky goodness we were about to devour. Next we had the takoyaki. It was soft and the filling was delightful. The sausage and Korean rice cake skewers came next (I believe they're an off-menu item?). They were a great savory combo eaten together. We also ordered fries and they were nice and crispy. The highlight of the apps was the tteok bokki! It was piping hot, flavorful and for $2 more you can get it topped with extra melty cheese. Talk about decadent! Now for the best part...the wings! We tried almost everything between the boneless and bone-in flavors, but my top 3 winners included the boneless Cheesling, Original Golden Olive, and the Wings of Fire. The Cheesling was one of the most unique flavors of wings I've ever had - think of it almost as a cheese-dusted crunchy bite of goodness! The Original Golden Olive was one of the most moist and juicy wings I've ever had, and if you love spicy wings, I'd recommend the Wings of Fire (low key had my nose running but still had great flavor!). If I'm ever in the area again, I'd definitely make my way over to BB.Q Chicken!

Yelp
I heard about this place on tik tok, so I wanted to try it out. There's no dine in at the moment, but you can call ahead or walk in to order. The workers were very helpful and friendly. It was our first time there, so they were very patient with us and answering all of our questions. Food did not take very long at all. I got 3 different orders, for my parents, my bf & i and his parents. We were going to get honey garlic and soy garlic flavored wings, but the guy who was helping us told us that those two flavors were basically the same thing, so we soy garlic and gangnam. The soy garlic was delicious! Gangnam on the other hand just was not it for us. Chicken was big and skin was very crispy, i had no flavor at all. Fries were okay as well. I like my fries thinly sliced and crispy like McDs or Whata, but their fries were not it. Overall experience was good. After trying it, if I ever come back I'll stick to my soy garlic and honey garlic. It was worth a first time try, but I'm not sure if I'll go out of my way to get it again. If I'm ever in the area and craving then yes.

Yelp
I came here today and ordered fried chicken, the taste is not fresh, not the same taste as the chain in China town, and I am very thirsty after eating, I don't think I will go back‍
google avatar

Joseph H.

Yelp
Great fried chicken wings. Plenty of flavor and not too overwhelming with sauce. Corn salad and pickled radish offsetsflavors and compliments well together. I went 2 days in a row to order. My kids love it. Will be a frequent customer when we are craving fried chicken.
google avatar

Yelp
Ooooo weeee I'm coming back here again because the soy garlic wings were sooo yummy! They were perfect flavor and extra crispy, like extra crispy. Ooo nomnomnomz We also ordered hot spicy wings, Gangnam wings, fried squid, and sweet potato fries. Gangnam wings (1/5) - omg don't order this. I was expecting this one to be really flavorful and the best one but it was def not, super disappointing. Soy garlic (5/5) - lots of flavor, very crispy (just like I like it). If you're not the sweet and savory type I wouldn't recommend that you order this. Oh but if you're like the sausage and pancakes or chicken and waffles type THEN GET THIS. Hot spicy wings (3/4) - okay, these were very good and had lots of flavor but I'm a little wuss when it comes to spicy and BOY was it spicy. I really wish I could've enjoyed it and ate more but it was like booty hole spicy and I was starting to tear up and sweat eating just ONE. The fried squid and sweet potato fries were just like average sides like any other place, nothing too special. I did love the pickled radishes that came with the wings, it's pickled differently here and I really liked it (plus I ate a lot of them because my wussy self couldn't handle the spicy wings)
google avatar

Jason Z.

Yelp
Came here again and got a takeout order from here and one from Hoodadak to compare. We got a large order of sweet and spicy wings (18 wings) for $24. The wings are decent sized and well cooked and tender. With the other chicken places getting ridiculous in price, BBQ Chicken here becomes a better option.
google avatar

Veronica H.

Yelp
The wings were amazing the crunch was like bitting into a fluffy potato chip. The flavors were impeccable, good enough for a king pallet. The lady at the counter was super helpful and nice. I would highly recommend for a quick lunch or dinner.
google avatar

Justin C.

Yelp
Probably the best Korean fried chicken place I've been to in Katy! The soy garlic wings were delicious, crispy, and filling. I'm excited to go back and try some more flavors!

Diana T.

Yelp
The size of wing is big enough , and flavor is great , highly recommended. The honey soy wing is my absolute favorite

Yelp
I had chicken delivery today and it WAS REALLY GOOD! I can't speak for the rest of the menus but chicken was as good maybe better than Bon Chon but the price was better. BBQ was recommended to my son by one of his friends and now I pass on my recommendation to y'all
