"The Original BBQ Supply Co., located in Rogers Park and owned by Jared Leonard of Budlong Hot Chicken fame, is undergoing another round of renovations after its reopening last March. Previously known as Rub's Backcountry Smokehouse, the current focus is remodeling the kitchen. They aim to reopen by Thanksgiving. Leonard has moved to Denver and has not returned a message. He recently closed the Lincoln Square location of the Budlong and opened another in Evanston at Northwestern University." - Daniel Gerzina

This place has such good BBQ, I drove all the way from 13800 south to eat here. The BBQ class will teach you about the different meal choices. Brisket is amazing and today I had the brisket burger, pleasure trading silly money for delicious food. Well worth the drive. Oh they don't serve alcohol, but that saves you money because you can bring your own.

This place is simply amazing. You can taste the smoke and meat the moment you walk in. They make everything themselves from the sauces to the jar of pickles on the table. The bandana napkins and mason jar glasses were a nice touch. I loved the variety of sauces they had and walked out with a satisfied, but very full stomach and some leftover beans and truffle mac & cheese. This place is legit.

Excellent food. We had wings for an appetizer. Ribs, pot beans ,cole slaw. The house made sauces are awesome ,no joke. You need to check it out. Home made pickles on the table are a nice touch.

I’m from Texas and this definitely not Texas style BBQ. This is so terrible that they would go out of business if they were in Texas. The meats are almost tasteless because they haven’t been smoked/cooked half as long as they should be. The flavor should permeate through out every bite of meat, not just barely on the surface. You can see it from the photos. Good BBQ doesn’t need sauce. The brisket fat should almost melt in your mouth. There shouldn’t be any grizzly fat bite to spit out. There should at least be 2-3 slices of plain and thick sandwich bread give to each person. The sauces all had too much sugar and vinegar. I feel like his is more like someone from St. Louis giving a half assed try on Texas BBQ. We eat on butcher paper or disposable plates with plastic ware, not metal trays. An attempt to make a Texas BBQ place feel upscale and fancy handkerchief napkins is not real Texas BBQ. Give me my massive role of paper towels on a picnic like table.

The food was great. The loaded nachos were an appetizer that was big enough for to and could easily be a meal. The pulled pork was very flavorful and the ribs were fantastic. They brought out 4 different days to go with the BBQ. The citrus was my favorite. The had homemade chips and pickles at the table to munch on while waiting for you food. I would definitely recommend. I will be going back when I am in the area.

I visit this place 2 to 3 times a week when i'm working in the area. I love the customer service and the food is Amazing! The smoked potato chips are too die for and the homemade pickles are delicious. I went in one week and tried every smoked chicken flavor they had. Still can't choose which one I enjoy the most. Also the comeback sauce is great with the wings. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu, another hidden gem in Rogers Park! Great service, great prices and amazing food! They definitely get 5 stars from me!

A friend of mine brought me here and I must say I'm pretty happy he did. This place has an atmosphere that's a warm combo of homey and inviting. The staff was very nice and helpful with the menu. Not that the menu was confusing or anything but there seems to be so many good choices. It's also BYOB here which is great. The meal started with house smoked bbq chip which I must say are probably the beat potato chips I've had, the smoke wasn't overpowering but it added a subtle flavor that had us asking for more. Also the house pickles were refreshing and tart, good for between meats to cleanse the palate. I got the two meat option with sliced brisket and pulled pork, combined with coleslaw and truffle Mac and cheese plus a slice of Texas toast. The brisket had a nicely developed smoke ring, wasn't dry and had good flavor, the pork was similar. The truffle Mac and cheese was thick and creamy with cheese and the crust on top was a good textural addition. They have four sauces available to add to the meat but it didn't really need it, however the tropical chipotle I believe it was, was my favorite. Overall I'd have to say BBQ supply was a refreshing take on BBQ in Chicago, I'd definitely come back.

Best brisket sandwich and Cornbread. I've tried most of their sides and have found them all to be delicious. Parking is fairly easy on the street and it's in a safe part of Chicago. the food is excellent and it's also an excellent value. I believe this place only takes cash so be ready with cash on hand.
