Someone is going to have to explain the popularity of this brunch, because it is lost on me. My only guess is that people come for the options, of which there are many. It is mediocre, at best.
The buffet brunch includes mimosas, and offers waffles, omelettes, fried chicken, jerk chicken, fish, pastas, vegetables, rice dishes, pastries, and more. The issue is that none of it is good. I found most dishes to be bland and flavorless. Fried chicken needed salt. Waffles needed longer in the waffle iron. Pasta was overcooked. Grits tasted like cardboard and weren't properly cooked. I did like the salmon with salsa verde and the Spanish rice. Some dishes, like the teriyaki seafood, didn't even look appealing. Mimosas were too heavy on the juice.
We had reservations, and I was the first one there. They couldn't find the reservation. When my friend showed up, they were able to find. And they have the lame policy of not seating until most of the party is there, which, as many in D.C. food scene keep mentioning, is a policy that is starting to get real old, real quick, especially if you have reservations. We fought to get seated, and they seated our party of 11 at a table for 7, so then we had to fight to get moved.
By the way, the host stand is a disaster. The staff cannot keep up with the phone calls, walk-ins, and reservations, so the tiny lobby gets crowded quickly.
The decor is beautiful, and service ended up being great, but poor policies and bad food mean I will not be returning.
There are way better brunches in D.C., including buffets, than what you get here. I'd try dinner or drinks here, but I'd never do brunch here again.
