Beacon is the definition of a hidden gem! With such friendly service and delectable ALL VEGAN!! offerings, I can confidently say that it's worth checking out. The menu is as artisan as it is creative, and the kitschy deck is a nice place to enjoy your treat (weather permitting!).

I see where raised glazed got its name from - it is the thickest glazed donut I’ve ever had! It was really tasty, but the donut was not warm so it didn’t have that wow first impression like a Krispy Kreme donut leaves you with. If it was, it would’ve easily been a 5/5. This place is in a back alley and has a beautiful mural as well. Cool vibe.

Yeast, cake, cronuts, all the options. I feel like I can never find a good yeast donut in this cake obsessed donut culture! But I found a few. I got the glazed, it was perfectly soft, squishy, and so sugary. I fell in love with my first bite. It had some salty tangs in there as well. My son got the birthday cake donut, it was pretty, completely covered in tasty sprinkles. My husband got a coffee cake donut. He said it had a good salt ratio and it was decadent, and with coffee it was a perfect pairing. The coffee was good, we got our donuts in seconds after ordering, and we went on a Saturday morning at 9:30, there were 2 people ahead of us, and when we left there was a line.

This was a super fun find in Chicago. We didn’t know what to expect when we walked down the alley but the cool mural painting and friendly customer service set us at ease. We tried several donuts and they were excellent!

Beacon is a strong contender for the best doughnut shop in Chicago, and has singlehandedly changed my mind about how good a cake doughnut can be (as someone who was previously a diehard proponent of yeasted >> cake) Their filled cake doughnuts are their ‘signatures’: the blueberry pancake and boston cream are both knockouts, with the latter being particularly exceptional (even setting aside how impressive it is to make that delicious a custard while being vegan). Their unfilled, more traditional cake doughnuts are also stellar, like the cinnamon coffee cake The only letdowns I’ve had here are their non-cake offerings: their apple fritter is underwhelming, with an off texture, minimal apple, and little flavor. Their beignet also suffers from textual issues: a dense, claggy, bland offering that can be skipped

I love donuts, but I'm not a huge fan of cake donuts, so I wasn't sure how much I'd like these. They do have a few other options, but they're mostly cake donuts. My cousin, her fiancee, my husband, and I shared: - Cinnamon Coffee Cake - Birthday Cake Sprinkle - Blueberry Pancake - Apple Cider - Vanilla Bean Cronut - Blackberry Beignet These are probably the best cake donuts I've ever had. The Blueberry Pancake was my favorite. It's not common to have a cake ring donut that's filled and this was incredible. My second pick would be the Cronut, but you really can't go wrong with any of them. They're all vegan which is awesome. I'm not vegan, but I'm always happy to find vegan food that's better than non-vegan food.
