Beam Review - Notting Hill - London - The Infatuation

"The phrase ‘this is nice isn’t it’ is guaranteed to be said by at least one member of your group if you head to Cafe Beam on Westbourne Grove. Maybe they’re referring to the hanging lights, or the exposed brick, maybe it’s the spaciousness of it all, or maybe it’s the brunch menu that includes shakshuka, a halal full english, and nutella filled doughnuts. We’ll tell you - it’s all of the above. This spot is walk-in only, and open until 4.30pm everyday, so plan accordingly." - Rianne Shlebak

I stopped by to browse furniture and had the pleasure of interacting with Kayla and Sidney. Even though I didn’t make a purchase, they were both incredibly helpful, friendly, and professional. Kayla took the time to answer my questions and offered thoughtful suggestions, while Sidney made sure I had all the information I needed without any pressure to buy. Their great customer service alone made the visit worthwhile. When I’m ready to purchase, I’ll definitely be coming back to work with them!

We visited the Beam store in Williamsburg on Memorial day and got the best experience with Emily! Everyone in the store was nice and Emily was super helpful. She gave us so many options on the couch we were interested in and also let us know of the Memorial day sale. Buying a couch for us is a big decision this time around and Emily was so knowledgeable and showed us so many options for the couch we were interested in. We didn't feel pushed or overwhelmed to make any decision on the spot. It's a beautiful store, amazing employees and such unique furniture. We're so happy to have gotten our couch from here and will definitely be back for more! THANK YOU SO MUCH EMILY AND TEAM!!!

I had a great experience buying a sleeper/sofa at BEAM. Everyone was incredibly helpful, from Kayla in the showroom to Jessica and Cassandra in the back office. My questions about delivery and accessories were answered promptly, and I LOVE my new couch. Who could ask for more?

Google
Eye-catching store with unique housewares and furniture. Globally procured items with design and quality in mind. The tables and bookcases from Belgium are an escape from the boring ordinary and at close inspection, they seem to be sturdy and very well made. Plenty of pops of color and fun items like the cheeseburger, pineapple and donuts stools. Excellent customer service and fantastic location.

Google
This shop carries modern design utilities for the home. They carry lamps, tables, decor, ceramics, and more. The selection is very modern, fun, and colorful. The quality is good and matches the prices you are paying. The store is very lively and well organized. Staff is helpful and welcoming. I enjoy shopping here and have brought friends.

Beam BK has great furniture style that is perfect for my taste. The staff was fantastic, so helpful. And the delivery guys, different company, were also fantastic, really nice. I didn't pay for assembly, but they put it together anyways, without asking

Cassandra and her team are so amazing! She went above and beyond to help me with an impossible situation. I came into the store with 2 technical issues with lamps I purchased online, and Cassandra and Kayla immediately stepped up to the plate to help resolve the issue easily. It took some time but they handled it with such grace and kindness. Love this store!

Google
The BEAM team provided above and beyond customer service to me as an out of state customer who wanted to purchase a gift for a Brooklyn based friend. Cassandra and Kayla went as far as to hand write a card with a personal message for me to include alongside the gift. Blown away by not only the high quality products at beam, but also by their high quality staff!

Yelp
Super unique and fun home/apartment goods and furniture. Picked up a pillow while visiting my Williamsburg sister.

Yelp
My fave part of Gymnastics is the Beam, but they DON'T EVEN SELL THOSE HERE. FALSE ADVERTISING. Extremely fancy home decor and Furnishing place which is located in the very hipster expensive part of Brooklyn. Definitely not somewhere that I would ever afford to go and honestly I'm not so much into the feng shui and all of the fancy homestyle stuff, as you might be if you're reading this. I'm not really sure. It's possible that when we have a lot more money that Barbie is going to want to come to places like this. But honestly I think it may be for Brooklynites that have so much money that they don't know what to do with it. But then again that's just my opinion, and my opinion is supposedly controversial and ill-informed a lot of the time so why even listen to what I say and honestly are you even reading this? I didn't think so.

Yelp
It's an incredibly tiny store, but jam packed full of wonderful interior objects and decor. Sometimes they have good sales and will stuff some of the items in the back-- we got a bar stool from here so my partner could WFH, and we even picked up another one because we loved it so much (also we needed another one to match lol.) The owner was incredibly helpful, and there are so many beautiful objects here, that I'd definitely come back. Whenever things clear up, I hope to utilize them for their design services, but for now I will enjoy shopping from their online store. (I will say that some of the items are priced high, but obviously it's due to the quality)

Yelp
Utterly, amazingly incompetent and rude. Over a month and never got what we ordered. Website, while beautiful, had incorrect product information. Zero follow-up unless pressured to. Every interaction (to fix this store's mistakes) was rude and dismissive. I would avoid this place for anything besides in person shopping. Edit: BEAM replied to this review with an incorrect telling of events (they did not reply back with that info -- they refunded us only after we reached out after not hearing from them for weeks).

Yelp
The store has expanded significantly since we were last there, and they've added so many fun things. I still was mostly interested in the fact that they carry ceramics from Studio Arhoj, and bought two awesome pieces. They had a much wider selection this time and I was so happy to see it. I got a few small, colorful bowls as well.

Teresa L.

Yelp
Owner was accommodating, and we are appreciative of his willingness to help us. Would shop in-store again.

Yelp
I have been so impressed with Beam and their customer service. Especially during covid and dealing with challenging production issues, they have been quick to update shipping issues and have even upgraded my client to white glove delivery. Greg is so helpful and accommodating to my client's needs. I also love stopping in to see the latest new line updates!

Ross F.

Yelp
It's very apparent that Beam is lacking in the customer service department and that they blatantly don't care about their customers. Any sale they have is probably a scam because they need your money to fill inventory. They hit me with a 12 week lead time after saying the product was in stock. Then, after the 12 weeks, our order came in wrong twice. I kept cool about it because I needed their help. Each question I had would take them a week to answer. Greg, the owner, removed himself from the situation because he knew they badly messed up. He relies on his rude partner Ali to do the dirty work ( Abruptly refund you and tell you to go somewhere else) Now I know why small mom & pop stores like this are going out of business.

Yelp
This is my favorite store in Brooklyn. My only issue with the shop is that it's hard to buy gifts there because I want to keep them all for myself.

Yelp
Love this store! The owners are very nice and more than happy to help! Everything is affordable and not overpriced.

Yelp
This is one of those stores you kinda wish you could just live in. It is so well curated and the staff there is knowledgable and helpful without being pushy. It reminds me of 'Future Perfect' back when they were still in Williamsburg, but with a way more laid back vibe and without the constant sticker shock. They have a wide range of unique products, from sofas to candles, which makes it easier to pick up a quick gift or do some impulse shopping without breaking the bank. I recently purchased a light from BEAM that they did not have in stock, and the lovely owner set up a shipment direct from Italy to my apartment. The light arrived and I couldn't be happier with it. The only problem with walking into BEAM is that I now have this annoying mental shopping cart of things I need to go back and buy.

Yelp
Beam is My favorite store in New York City. The brands they carry are gems and the mix of them together makes the perfect home decor store. Not to mention the many times they saved the day making me find the perfect gifts for every occasion and every type of person I know. Definitely go visit if you can.

Yelp
We were walking down the street the other morning when we spotted the cool design in the window. Though it 'offically' was not open yet the owner let us in so we could have a look at their stuff. I am very interested in modern design and especially in interior design and was very happy with this store. Many of the stores on bedford offer hippy/romantic style what I do not like. They have very neat products ranging from a small bottle opener to furniture. The price range is also from small to big. I liked the irony of many of their products. I want to point out how nice the owners were. We had a long talk about living and politics in NYC vs. Berlin. It was very interesting for us. We were offered a small guide for shopping and dining in the area.

Yelp
We stumbled into BEAM years ago on our first week living in Williamsburg. to this day, their store is ever-changing with new, beautifully curated home design, that will leave you wanting more and more. More than half of our home is curated by BEAM and their amazing owners. We always recommend this to anyone visiting New York.

Marc M.

Yelp
Really loved the collection, but the staff completely ignored us. Apparently we did not look "the part" of people who would be shopping here as we were walking past on our way home from a quick casual dinner, owners did not even say hello/acknowledge us being there. Shame because the store is very well curated, but I would not like to give them my money.

Michael W.

Yelp
This is one of the best stores I have visited in ages. The assortment of product in the store is a designer's dream. Everything is approachable, so you don't feel like you are in a museum. Finally somewhere to shop with an edge, that is affordable, and fun. The customer service was also amazing. They actually took the time to talk to us. It was like hanging out with friends. This is why I love independent shops, with owners that take the time to curate and make trends versus following them.

Yelp
The owner of this place has really good taste, there isn't a corner of this shop that doesn't have something interesting -- from modernist furniture to cute coffee mugs.

Yelp
Beautifully curated store, hard to resist everything inside! I love their unique pieces and range of offerings--from coasters to couches, they've got it. Feels like a great place to not only buy for my home, but finding unique gifts. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
What a wonderful spot for home decor and more. The gentleman running the store (with two adorable and well behaved pups) was a joy. They have a wonderful selection of blankets, pillows, table top, some furniture and tons of more miscellaneous tasteful and unique home decorations. I really love the assortment they have here.

Yelp
I discovered Beam on a recent trip to Brooklyn. This place is a hidden gem. An Aladdin's cave of things for the home. Art, lighting, soft furnishings, one of a kind pieces that I hadn't ever seen before, all in one place. This store is unique, with more of a gallery feel but with everything for sale. A must visit next time you're in Brooklyn.

Yelp
My partner and I recently, with the help of an AMAZING interior designer, completely renovated our condo in downtown San Francisco. Space was limited and with three cats we needed to make sure that our fabrics, furniture, rugs--EVERYTHING were both beautiful and durable. The boys at BEAM did not disappoint. Their selection of lighting and art was unparalleled and the owners worked with us directly (even from the West Coast) and ensured that our new condo not only reflected our style and aesthetic but that our furnishings and finishes would last. Compared to local stores in our area (like the Marina and Pacific Heights) BEAM is more affordable and offers incredible selection and customer service. We love you guys!!! - JJ and P

Yelp
This place is off-the-wall cool. They have so many great, fun, unique things for your house I am super in love with all of it. The owners of the space are also super nice and really willing to work with you in regards to the style that you're trying to create within your home. They always have new stuff so it's lovely to be able to come in every once in a while and check it out. Things are always changing and updating and I got a really bomb speaker from them that everyone keeps asking me where I got from.

Yelp
Until this past Saturday, I've always wondered where the young adults of Brooklyn, particularly Williamsburg, bought the eccentric items that decorate their overpriced apartments. Thrift stores? IKEA? DIY? And then I stumbled into BEAM. I've never marveled at a store before. Everything in this store (and I'm not being hyperbolic here) is amazing. From the set up of the store itself, which felt like I was invited into the most charming of apartments, to the slew of modern-meets-retro decor, furnishings, and tchotchkes, BEAM has made it a one stop shop to coolify your home and/or become the greatest gift giver your friends have ever had. We even chatted a bit with the owner, who was oh so pleasant and somehow seemed to embody the essence of the entire store. I browsed, touched, and ogled at every item in that place, and though I was tempted to just redecorate my entire house, I started off (really) small and bought the fanciest bookmark I've ever seen. As the young kids say, this store is the bees knees. Check it out.

Yelp
Best Store Ever!!! I wanted everything!! The staff was also so friendly and helpful, not to mention Micky and Rudi the 2 adorable pups who greeted me at the door!! This place is 1 stop shopping for your home and whatever gifts you need!!

Annie B.

Yelp
Beam is my "go to" store when i need a gift. I never have a problem finding something interesting & new. This store has the best selection of gifts & home items even couch's. I've bought items for all different types of people & various ages here, even kids. The gifts are always a big hit! :-) They are knowledge about what they sell & always have good suggestions on what would work for that particular gift. Besides they are dog friendly, and have 2 of the cutest dogs that hang there.

K. P.

Yelp
This place is great. All their goods are curated by the two owners who are very friendly and accommodating. The furnishings and accents are unique and often humorous and are very well priced. All their goods are very high quality and would make for really great talking pieces in any home. I'm hoping to buy them out of their entire stock one day (especially though HI BK lights!). Make sure to grab a candle they smell awesome and are hand poured in BK.

L S.

Yelp
BEAM is a hidden gem in Williamsburg. With the friendly owners' profession in interior design, you cannot not be lead astray. I stop by the store often because I work out nearby, but every time I walk in I always find the most unique, beautiful and fun items that I would otherwise look past. As an artist, I find it difficult to find interesting and aesthetically pleasing home decorations for your home, but when I am at BEAM, I am like a kid in a candy store-- with exquisite options for my sheik New York home.

Janna L.

Yelp
I was about to purchase some pricey Carl Aubock pieces in Europe when i realized that I could buy them for much less at BEAM. They sent them out immediately, packaged very carefully. This shop has a cool twist of eclectic inventory mixed with classic pieces. Really charming place to shop and bring clients!

Jared D.

Yelp
One of my favorite stores in Brooklyn and beyond. I've lived in Williamsburg for about seven years, and have been waiting for a store like this within a stone's throw from my place: a store that sells unique, beautiful, and even cerebral objets d'art that are chosen by the hands and heart of a curatorial genius. Beautifully pre-framed prints by artists that don't break the bank, custom furniture hand-crafted in North Carolina but within walking distance from the Bedford stop, gorgeous tchotchkes that you didn't know your side table needed, and one-of-a-kind gifts that will make people at the party pull you aside and whisper, "Where did you get those? Did they have more?" In a neighborhood filled with stores that all sell the same old Edison-light-lit succulents aside taxidermy aside Woolrich whatevers, Beam is the brightest retail presence this side of Avenue C. I'm beaming about it.
