The 26 Best Restaurants in Anchorage, Alaska | Eater

"Anchorage has a thing for the kind of food you’d like to totally get down with after a long hike – pizza and tacos top this list. The Bear Tooth and its always jam-packed sibling, Moose’s Tooth pub and pizzeria, do exactly this kind of cooking. Deeply loved by locals, this second-run movie theater and cafe with an adjacent restaurant and bar in the Spenard neighborhood is almost always humming with customers (secret: weekend brunch in the grill is usually a little slower and delicious and you can often slip into the cafe when the grill has a wait). The movie theater side has pizza, salads, tacos, beer, and wine. The local fish tacos and a second-run movie will lighten up any dreary rainy afternoon. The grill side offers a Mexican-influenced menu with lots of local specials in the summertime. The margaritas and house-made chips and guac make a very sensible meal. This location is great for families, but expect to wait most nights at the grill." - Julia O'Malley

Great and friendly service. Very attentive staff and knowledgeable of the menu. The food quality was fantastic! We got the chicken wings and southwest eggrolls for apps and the Salmon Poke bowl. The fish was cooked to perfection and the sauces were addicting. I’m just bummed I live so far away from moose’s tooth. Definitely would go again when I come back to AK

Bear Tooth Grill is a fantastic spot where everyone in your group will find something to love. Their diverse menu has options for all tastes, and the quality is always top-notch. My absolute favorite is the Peanut Tofu Bowl—so flavorful and satisfying! The portobello burger is another great choice, though the bread can sometimes be a little dry. And I can’t forget the garlic cilantro French fries—my grandma is absolutely obsessed with them! The service is consistently friendly and accommodating, making every visit a great experience. Whether you’re craving something hearty, fresh, or indulgent, Bear Tooth Grill never disappoints!

Google
It’s pretty good. Highly recommend if your visiting or have somebody visiting. The better food is on the theatrepub side but the fancy food is on the grill side. Had a burger, it was pretty good. There has definitely been a change in the past few years, as the overall vibe feels very different. Overall, it feels more cookie cutter and less of the “Alaskan experience” it was before. I would say it’s less friendly to locals and more of a normal restaurant. Theater side is still pretty good though. I would give 3 1/2 stars if I could.

Google
Very nice heated patio. Very casual with counter service outside, full service inside. The most excellent blackberry salad, so fresh. I have never eaten blackberries so sweet. My husband had the prime rib sandwich, it was fine. Although, the star of the show by far was the Dulce de Leche banana cream pie. So delicious. From graham cracker, carmel, banana to cream. I highly recommend this place. Beer was decent, also.

Google
I had the chicken Colorado burrito, which was tasty and enough for me for two meals. It came nicely wrapped in aluminum foil, so it had a built-in take-home pack. I met friends there, and we all enjoyed the chat.

Google
Dalton was a fantastic server. Visiting from Maryland and while waiting to be seated, I caught the attention of another worker to ask him about the t-shirt he had on--Moose's Tooth. I was pleasantly surprised at his verbal response delivery and his polite manners. As I stood to leave after eating, he stopped at my table and shook my hand (loved the firm handshake and eye contact--should be taught to all young folks) and told me to have a nice vacation with a big smile on his face. They didn't have a comment card so I could advise the manager what great employees they have so he brought out his manager and I told her....Collin, you made my day and restored my faith that there are fine young employees still to be had in the work world. As a former County government department head, that faith had been dwindling. Karen L Hagerstown, MD

It was a beautiful day for lunch and I wanted to bring my husband to a local favorite. I’ve been here long ago but forgot what it was like. Our experience yesterday afternoon was wonderful. The atmosphere was open and inviting. The patrons and the kids; it felt like summer with the good vibes in the place. We were seated almost immediately, and that was another win (we were starving). Todd provided us with awesome service. I usually say “Aloha” when engaging with others, and was pleasantly surprised when Todd replied….IN HAWAIIAN! Wasn’t expecting that at all (another Win). We ordered the bahn mi burger, arugula watermelon salad and guacamole. All of it was delicious and filling. The portions are healthy, the staff members are pleasant and upbeat, the ambience is inclusive. We will be back. Again. And again lol.

Had to check it out since I visited Moose tooth. Sat right away at the bar. Server/bartender was kind and quick with service and giving great recommendations. The food was brought out in a timely fashion and the fries were amazing and the Monte Cristo was delicious. I recommend.

Yelp
First up this place is HUGE like not like a regular theatre like a straight up mansion and you wait in line for only like 6 minutes and you can order anything that you can order at bear tooth and they bring it to your table like a restaurant but a theatre too and the pizzas good the salads good everything things good even just the atmosphere is calm (well unless that one kid comes in Plus Halloween party was exquisite

Yelp
Support local places. Bear tooth theater pub get big movies and independent ones. Great prices. After seeing one, we walked next door to thier semi-attached restaurant and had a nice dinner. I wanted a little more zip from my firecracker shrimp bowl and the Salmon cakes Appetizer is HUGE in portion, and should be an entree, but we liked those a lot too. And the soup (cant remember what it was)

Yelp
What a Great recommendation as we were in Alaska during the off season in February. We hiked all the way from our hotel! And I must say, I was expecting a brunch menu but apparently things have changed as the individual who suggested this was there when he served in the military years ago. That said, we are not big fans of Pizza. But WOW! First, the options in size were perfect. And the WOW, is actually because Puzza 1/2 & Veggie Delight & 1/2 Aloha Escape, It was so Full of FLAVOR IF WE COULD HAVE STOMACHED ANOTHER WE WOULD HAVE! It is evident, why this place is still in business & full of folks waiting to partake! CHECK THEM OUT!!! Oh! And service was also Great considering how busy they are we were very surprised!

Yelp
While I have enjoyed my food at Bear Tooth previously, this time I felt the food was lackluster. Perhaps the food was rushed because of how busy they were that evening, the food seems to not have any spices added. It was edible but not enjoyable. The service was incredible and we loved the outdoor fires and community feel. I wouldn't come back for the food but I will come back for the movie and culture!

Yelp
Went to see a movie, ordered small nachos as a snack prior to dinner after the movie. Fifty minutes later, still no food. A waiter came by and asked if our food came. No. A half hour later, still no food. Apologetic, however.. no food after over an hour. Yet, another ten minute wait. Missed quite a bit of the movie. Not impressed.

Yelp
Love Bear Tooth for take out. They have a fabulous system and it saves time / money for my family. Delicious variety of options and friendly staff. We always get the Mandarin Chicken Salad, the Bacon Chicken Ranch Wrap and the Colorado Bomber Burrito. Perfect each time! Tooth Donations is always very generous to local charities and non-profits!

Yelp
Really cool place!! Pizza and a movie is a cool experience for sure. The menu is good and they serve beer. Might as well enjoy yourself a little while your kids watch the latest Disney movie! Unique spot and a must try.

Yelp
For years BearTooth was my favorite place .Not anymore . I understand that prices have gone up and expect to pay more to dine out but what was so disappointing was the quality of the food I was served . I ordered the blackened salmon tacos. I was served three small tacos, the shells tasted worse than the ones I buy in a box , they weren't heated . The cabbage was chopped cabbage that tasted like plastic . I had tiny slivers of salmon at the bottom of each taco and about a teaspoon of Blanca sauce underneath the dry salmon . There was no seasoning or dressing on the huge amount of cabbage that was served on top of the small tacos . I wasn't served any salsa Fresca with the dish .... I know they used to have a station with salsas , maybe I was supposed get my own . It's time to find another favorite place .

Yelp
Was recommended the Bear Tooth Pub for their pizza as we were visiting Anchorage and Bear Tooth did not disappoint. We shared the Santa' Helper pizza (take out) and it was rich and delicious. The Cesar salad was good also. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Waited 45 minutes for food. Got a hard boiled egg for Benny and cold burrito. Sent Benny back, waited another 15 minutes for a 3 minute egg and got the same plate with a now soggy bun. Burrito was still cold. Great drinks tho!!!

Yelp
Enjoyed a great meal there Saturday, The Pizza was great, Only thing I would change is upgrade the chairs to some that are more comfortable. You want to sell desert then people need to be willing to sit there longer. The chairs are hard and that makes people want to leave. Love that steak Chipotle Pizza,

Yelp
I haven't been to the theatre portion of Bear Tooth in years... the last time would have been seeing a concert... 2012ish! Most recently I looked up the throwback movie for Thursday and they were showing Flashdance, so I quickly purchased four tickets online. Their website could use some work on how the list movies and purchasing, but it's not worth docking them over. I love that you pick your seats online and don't have to get there ridiculously early to stand in line like it use to be once upon a time. We did however arrive about 45 minutes early to get parked because that generally a nightmare and get our food ordered and settled in! Popcorn, nachos, pizza, salad, burritos & beverages! All were top notch and it's great to have it brought to your table! I'm glad we were there early to see upcoming movies because I was able to snag the last booth to see Elf come Christmastime. Woop woop! This particular movie was fantastic... obviously being surrounded by pretty much only people within our age group that had seen the movie as kids. Lots of cheers, singing and clapping which added to the experience! Old school, I like it!

Yelp
My review has nothing to do with their food. I love their food. What I absolutely hate, is that I live in the neighborhood. They have the snow plow trucks running at 2-3 am. It's ridiculous. How would you like giant plow trucks clearing snow, 30 feet from your bedroom? When I'm woken up in the middle of the night, it's from the plows at beartooth. Not the trucks in the parking lots by play it again sports or on 27th, but by beartooth

Yelp
Had a really nice time here! We came for Tuesday trivia which was held in the theatre-a fun experience. The food was really good and came out hot and fresh which was nice/surprising considering the sheer volume that this kitchen was pushing out. The theatre was packed and so was the restaurant. I am excited to come back to try more.

Yelp
Great place for morning breakfast. Only suggestion would be open earlier, say 8:00, maybe a little later.

Yelp
Sat in the bar and service was awesome. Love this location in the summer with lots of outdoor seating. The pizza and other items we ordered were great.

Yelp
I love love love this place! The. Cantina fish tacos are my fav. Particularly the beer battered cod. Staff are always helpful and efficient. The food is wonderful.

Yelp
I've eaten here several times and have always been impressed and satisfied with the food and service.. Today was an exception regarding the food. One of us ordered biscuits and gravy, looking forward to some comfort food. The 3 biscuits were burned on the bottoms and the gravy was more like a garnish rather than the entree partner. A side of gravy was ordered and again it was in a dish the size of a sorbet pallet cleanser, very skimpy . After cutting off the burnt bottoms, baking powder taste was overwhelming in the biscuits. I too wanted comfort food, so I ordered the chicken fried steak. It was tough and difficult to chew, but it had more gravy than the biscuits did. I could barely eat half of it. Fried potatoes came with it and they were at least tasty. Waiting for our meals about 35 minutes, made it all the more disappointing. I'm trying to convince myself that due to the large crowd on a holiday weekend the kitchen was overwhelmed. Or, perhaps there was a new chef. I've enjoyed eating there over the years, and hope to return to enjoy more of their usual, creative and tasty cuisine...if I can get over my disappointment of today. At least the servicer was friendly and polite. The ambiance was it's usual casual but comfortable though very crowded.

Yelp
Wait....hold on.....can this be TRUE? Can I have NOT written a review for the Bear Tooth? Well here we go then!! This is probably one of my favorite places to eat in Anchorage. My typical visits include a delicious mixed drink form the grill side and something yummy to eat while enjoying a movie! I love that pre COVID you can reserve booths and skip the hassle of having to show up and stand in line to snag one. TBH I haven't eaten here since COVID got over a year ago but today I was ready to give it a try! There pick up system is safe and easy, super friendly as always and the food was on point as usual. You can order online AND over the phone which I dig the online option. It's so great to be dining "out" again!

Yelp
A good time was had by all! The Beartooth is in an older deco building south of central Anchorage, and provides pizza and beer for your viewing pleasure! Our group of six reserved seats, ordered a couple of pizzas and some nachos and sat down to enjoy our documentary feature. The beer is pretty good - I liked the red ale and the hefe weizen wasn't half bad. The seats are reasonably comfortable and spaced, and there is a little bar top in front for food and beverages. Some booths are in the back (reserve ahead). The bar is in the theater which is convenient for refills. Food is ordered outside, and ours was delivered to our seats shortly after the movie started. The pizza is above average, and the staff did a nice job off quietly delivering it to us in the dark. The sound and picture quality are better than one might expect. All in all, it was a pleasant evening! I even picked up a tie-dye shirt from their merch area. Check it out for dinner and a show!

Yelp
Always a good time! And that pizza was soooooooo good!!! We went at the right time, when they weren't super busy, so we were able to get pizza on the restaurant side. The waitress we had was really good! Took care of all her tables with a high level of energy! Also... don't forget to try the cocktails (if you're of age)... they were mixed well and a slightly heavy pour, which of course made for a great dinner!

Lady V.

Yelp
I movie was good but with the seating being aligned with the people I couldn't really see. I also ordered food here which didn't arrive to me until at the end of the movie and they gave the wrong order... I had go up to them asking where the food was prior but they never started making it until an 1 1/2 later only to be the wrong thing.......

John C.

Yelp
Always on point. Great food served hot & fresh from the kitchen. Cocktails expertly mixed. Fresh, tasty beer. Cheerful serving staff. LOVE this place. Very dependable experience. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Greatly overrated, food is more foo-foo. Terrible selection of beers on tap. Service is good, nothing remarkable about this place.

Yelp
From the friendly staff to the delicious blacked salmon burrito, banana shake, amber ale, and apple ale - and of course the actual movie - Bear Tooth Theatre Pub was a fun, entertaining way to spend the afternoon!
google avatar

Yelp
Our first time and loved it!! We enjoyed Lord of the Rings Return of the King. What a FANTASTIC place for a date night. Food was tasty and fresh. Service was good and fast. I love that they bring your food to you as you enjoy the movie. Looking forward to our next visit!!
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite theatre! Grateful to be back at the Beartooth! This theatre plays mostly "new to you," movies. They show local documentaries and live concerts also. The best part of Beartooth is the unmatched food and brew you can enjoy while being entertained! The bar is on the first floor and alcohol isn't allowed on the balcony FYI. I recommend reserving a booth. The booths have been recently renovated - the biggest booths are advertised to hold 4 people but with enough room for 5. I bring my family here to enjoy animated movies we missed in theaters and/or haven't streamed at home already. Jams4Fams events are also worth reserving a booth for. Highly recommend.

Yelp
We used to eat at the Theatre Pub several times a month. We have been gone from Anchorage for a few years, and were eagerly awaiting our favorite burritos. We were sadly disappointed. The food was oily and bland. Plus, they have changed how to order the food and it is an unpleasant system. Sort of a cross between fast food ordering and restaurant ordering. You have to find a table and sit down to see the menu, but then everyone has to get up and go to the host station to place your orders. We were also disappointed with our side order of chips; $2.50 for about 10 chips. We're hear for the week, and based on past experience we would have eaten there at least one more time, and probably ordered a burrito to go for the flight home. Instead, we won't be back.

Laurie H.

Yelp
Food is great & fun movies to watch while you enjoy your meal , or sit in the regular restaurant and enjoy a yummy meal! Spring , summer, winter or fall, it's always yummy & can get super busy so take your appetite & patience and enjoy yourself !

Yelp
Okay so I won't pretend this isn't a biased review. I've been coming here since I was very small, so there's that golden glow to the place for me. That said, I'll do my best to be somewhat objective. Bear Tooth is a theatre with meals. You get tickets to see a movie, generally either an older film or one that just left traditional theaters and head on in. Grab yourself a pitcher for water, and snag some seats. Then pop back out to the concession stand--or do this while waiting for the theater doors to open--and order yourself some beer and pizza. Bear Tooth is a sister location to Moose's Tooth, so if you love Moose's Tooth pizza, that's what you're getting here. Similarly, the brews are Broken Tooth brews (also sold at Moose's). While beer isn't my jam, I have a particular fondness for getting an Avalanche pizza and watching some movies. They don't just do movies, however. They also host music nights, miniature concerts, and some private events Once you've ordered, you sit down and start your movie. At some point during the film the servers find you in the theater and bequeath you with food. As a kid, this was the coolest. As an adult, it's still pretty cool. I can't say much about the service itself. You're generally watching a movie when you interact, but they do their best to be nonintrusive and quick about getting your food out to you. Honestly, this is a really great family activity. A lot of the movies are G or PG-13, and the ones that aren't are generally later in the day. It's for me a 5/5.

Yelp
Best Movie experience in Anchorage. Good food, 2ndvrun and classic movies. Eat and enjoy. Full bar.
google avatar

LaDarrell W.

Yelp
This is a great spot to eat should you find yourself need need of a good meal. I was out late and wanted something simple to eat after a long flight. The burger was great! It was well cooked with a generous amount of fries. The staff was super friendly which added to the overall dining experience. My only critic is that some things seemed a bit pricey and the establishment was a bit dated to me. Overall these were small items. I most definitely would go back again.
google avatar

Amanda S.

Yelp
Tonight was my first time here. When to order your food was quite confusing, as I was told they take your order at your seat. They do not. Also, our group was led to believe that a handicapped person would have a seat with a paid ticket. This too, was not the case. We had to borrow a wooden chair from the lobby. Not all disabled people are bound to a wheelchair. Needless to say, the seating was quite uncomfortable. Other than that, it was a great documentary and the food was good.

Yelp
Greeted by friendly faces, seated quickly, waiter was cordial, skillful & prompt .... food was delicious! First date night with my husband in over a year (due to new parenthood) definitely did not disappoint!!! So glad I heard of this place and we visited ! Had habenero chicken skewers... batter was almost candied but chicken inside and dipping sauces were perfect. I tried the Firecracker shrimp bowl = perfection. Husband tried Cod & chips = threw us off that the batter seemed pretty dark...but definitely was amazing!! Airy batter, perfect crunch, perfect fish & perfect fries!!! Look forward to visiting again - appreciate the variety the menu has to offer! Thank you for being awesome!!
google avatar

Yelp
Nice staff, good food and a unique experience for movie watching! I recently went and watched Top Gun while enjoying reasonable priced food that was brought to our table. Be sure to try their cream soda it's homemade.
google avatar

Sean G.

Yelp
The owners know how to do some amazing things here. Space is great and staff are friendly! Food is amazing! Movies are a great idea on the theater pub side and you can get some great handheld food and watch a movie. They play all sorts of movies typically 1 to 2 months after they've been in theaters. But I really enjoyed going and watching the 20th 30th anniversary films that they offer. Also it's a lot of fun to watch elf on the big screen around Christmas time.

David B.

Yelp
Went here last night for Neal Francis and what a great evening-it was my first time here and I absolutely loved it-great little theatre with pizza and beer-sound and views to the stage were on point-not a big movie theatre person but I will definitely be back for music-the only thing I would change is opening the theatre a little earlier so the 20 minute drink lines inside the restraunt are avoided-outside of that it was a fantastic evening
google avatar

Teri H.

Yelp
Pizza is overpriced and not cooked enough, personal opinion I like my pizza cooked more to get a crunchy crust, not all floppy
google avatar

Stephanie R.

Yelp
Loved it here! Came to the theatre twice while visiting the area and the food was great each time. Always ordered the napoleon pizza to share along with dessert & the draft root beer.
google avatar

Mike Y.

Yelp
I haven't been here for a year. I do t think will get sone in ever again. You have to get your own plates silver wear and napkins. Don't dine in there is no service always have it to go.
google avatar

Alissa O.

Yelp
Vegan pizza crust is not gluten-free. Gluten-free pizza crust is not vegan. No vegan cheese. This is a tricky place to eat if you are gluten-free and vegan, but there's gluten-free beer! I really enjoyed the Meteor Shower Blonde Ale. It had an almost coffee aftertaste. The Kickstep IPA was good too, quite hoppy. Glad to see these two gluten-free beers available. The website claimed that the chips and salsa are not vegan, but our host assured us they are. When the remodel is over there might be more food options for gluten-free vegans, but until then it's a limited menu full of dairy and wheat.
google avatar

Liya B.

Yelp
Amazing food and Amazing rootbeer they handcraft it and it is delicious I can't say how much I love this place I feel so welcome here and it is so affordable too
google avatar

Arlene S.

Yelp
When we arrived to the restaurant, it was already packed and there was a wait of 25-30 minutes. The hostess kindly provided us with various options to dine at the cafe next door or order as takeout to dine in outdoor setting. We ordered food and ate at the cafe (without service; the staff mainly helps with bussing the tables). We ordered diablo sticks, basil vinaigrette, and 1/2 & 1/2 pizzas with All-American and Garlic Lover's. The diablo sticks were delicious; don't think the sauce was necessary. I believe they use high quality cheese as it pulls to a great length when I try to separate the breadsticks/pizzas. I love the salad as it was refreshing and great balance with the pizza. The pine nuts in the salad really elevate the aroma and taste. The pizzas don't really stand out to me when I heard they are known for their pizzas. Wish the garlic flavor was stronger in the garlic lover's and more marinara sauce with the All-American. But overall, it is not bad and would recommend for a large group to share various dishes.

Yelp
Bear Tooth Theater Pub is a fun place to go catch a cheap movie and have some pizza or food while watching it. Also, if you want to enjoy Moose's Tooth without the wait and actually hear your friends, you can eat in the pub side. There are a lot of GF options but can be hard to navigate the menu for egg free or dairy free. The staff also have a hard time tracking down the GF menu or having enough knowledge of ingredients in the menu. But some are willing to try to find out. However it is loud, crowded, and there are a lot of people who want to order so it can feel like a lot of pressure. The GF menu is not available online. It would be really awesome to have this menu available online for research ahead of time. I ordered the Chicken Thai GF pizza but I don't know if the crusty as egg in it. I know I had dairy but I accepted my own fate/risk!! 4/5 stars because the menu is t online, I could get a GF menu, and it was difficult to get questions answered.

Cheryl M.

Yelp
We had a wonderful time here! Fantastic Hawaiian Pizza and the Margarita was wonderful! Service was perfect. Great movie too! I highly recommend for a fun night out!
google avatar

Rock D.

Yelp
Same great pizza and world class beer as Moose's tooth, but with a movie to watch and tables for your grub. I'd probably leave town if this place disappeared.
google avatar

Kathryn M.

Yelp
Ok so turns out that bears tooth is the sister restaurant of mooses tooth. So if mooses tooth happens to be too busy, hop over to bears tooth theatre and pub because they sell a vast majority of the same pizzas. I tried the spicy pad Thai pizza 10" perfect size to finish off on a hungry stomach. The Thai pizza is definitely different, peanut sauce replaces the marinara, the bean sprouts are super fresh and crispy and the crust which is my favorite part is perfectly cooked. My only complaint would be that the pizza was not spicy more sweet then anything, a little red flakes never hurt it though. My bf split pizza was definitely more traditional but full of flavor I'd say the hitch hiker was more of my favorite, although that's a special so look out for it to try.
google avatar

Lard Belly E.

Yelp
I think the nachos are the best, but I always ask for fresh jalapenos like they serve over on the theater side. Garlic fries are awesome. I always enjoy the peanut noodles. I think the specials are usually unspecial so I tend not to get them. Service is mostly prompt and courteous, just as it should be. Would come again when COVID is over.

Yelp
CB&P Large is now apparently 1/3 the toppings of the previous Large kinda disappointing. Great pizza still just a little light on toppings
