The Best Matcha Drinks, Dishes, and Desserts in Houston | Eater Houston

"Yes, Beard Papa’s is definitely worth the drive to Katy Asiatown. The area, which is booming with restaurants and cafes from all over Asia, boasts a location of Beard Papa’s, which makes cream puffs or eclairs fresh behind the counter. Diners can customize them, but if you’re here for matcha, go for the gusto. Ask for the green tea eclair, or choose your own flavors, like honey butter, chocolate, or creme brulee, to create your perfect dessert. To feed a matcha addiction, pair it with a matcha latte or iced green tea." - Brittany Britto Garley

We stopped by for drinks. My husband got the Vietnamese coffee and I got Thai tea. The drinks were very good. We did not order pastries but they looked delicious. We will have to try the pastries next time. Definitely will be coming back. Service was very good and quick.

I ordered the Original Puff Pastry for $10, and it was absolutely delicious—flaky, buttery, and perfect. I also tried the Strawberry Matcha, which was so yummy! Both are highly recommended for a tasty treat!

I’ve visited Beard Papa’s twice now, and both times have left me wondering why this place has such a loyal following. The pastries are fine if you like overly sweet desserts, but they’re definitely not worth $4 each. For what boils down to dough and cream, the pricing feels excessive—and that might be forgivable if the experience as a whole were enjoyable. Unfortunately, it’s not. My biggest issue is the customer service, or more accurately, the lack of it. On my first visit, the woman working in the back barely acknowledged me. She had this air of condescension, like she was doing me a favor just by being there. I chalked it up to a bad day and decided to return weeks later, hoping for a better experience. This time, I was the only customer in the store. You’d think that would make it easier to get decent service. Nope. The guy working didn’t even attempt to greet me with a smile, start a simple conversation, or act like he appreciated the business. Instead, he carried himself like he was above it all—aloof, snooty, and clearly uninterested in engaging with customers. It’s one thing to be reserved, but it’s another to act like you're too good to serve the people keeping the business afloat. Newsflash: you’re selling pastries, not launching a rocket. There’s no need to act like you’re better than everyone else. When you work in customer service, especially in a boutique dessert shop charging premium prices, friendliness and approachability should be non-negotiable. To top it off, the cream puffs were way too sweet. The filling tasted artificial and overly sugary, and the dough, while crisp, didn’t make up for it. I’ve had better cream puffs from grocery store bakeries at half the price. So if you’re hoping for a luxury dessert experience, you’re better off looking elsewhere. All in all, Beard Papa’s is overrated. Between the inflated prices, mediocre pastries, and arrogant staff, there’s nothing that would make me want to return. I’d rather support a local bakery that actually values its customers and offers desserts that live up to their price tags.

Excellence deserts options. They made special fresh yammee cakes. We came here once a week at least to buys box of 6. The owner couple are supper nice as well.

As being the first location opening in Texas, Beard Papa’s Katy has always been our favorite go-to dessert place for numerous of occasions, from birthday’s goodies to company’s parties, date nights or simply to satisfy a sweet tooth! With top notch quality and exceptionally friendly customer service, put simply, Beard Papa’s Katy cares! Don’t forget to try different combinations from the cream puff shells to melting in your mouth custard flavors! Their exclusive drinks have also been the talk of the town. Our personal favorites are the coconut coffee and salted caramel whipped coffee!!! These completely exceeded our expectations. Their other fruity drinks are also very refreshing, especially with the Texas heat! Tropic Thunder is definitely unmatchable. Next time when you stop by Katy’s Asian town, try some of their yummy treats! Highly recommended!!!

Google
Absolutely amazing!! My friend and I were pleasantly surprised by how good the cream puffs were here. It was both of our first times at Beard Papa’s. I ordered the green tea eclaire with green tea filling and I loved it! My friend had the chocolate eclaire with coffee filling. Good size, puff pastry texture, and ice cream-like smooth and cold filling inside. This has made it into one of my top favourite desserts! Service was fast and atmosphere was clean.

Beard Papa has always been my go to when it comes to cream puffs. I love their filling and how you can customize it. Their flavors looked all so good but we ended up trying the cookies and cream which was super yummy!

Google
Absolutely obsessed with Beard Papa's! I never thought I’d be a cream puff person, but this place totally won me over. The texture is perfect—crispy shell with a creamy center—and the sweetness is just right: satisfying but not overwhelming. My current faves are the ube and chocolate (SO GOOD!), and I’ve got my eye on the s’mores next. I also tried the Tropic Thunder drink—super refreshing and exactly what you want on a hot Houston day. Big thanks to the wonderful staff member who helped me out—she was so friendly, shared her favorites, and answered all my questions with a smile. Fantastic experience all around. Beard Papa’s in Katy, TX is a solid 10/10—highly recommend!

Yelp
My boyfriend was finishing up some sales meetings nearby so I had some time to kill at the domain and as I was wondering around I stumbled into this cute bakery. I had no idea what to expect but imagined it to be similar to a filled donut. Not quite! Its more like an eclair i would say for those not familiar. Its quite yummy and the bread dough is not overly sweet overing a nice contrast to the sweet filling. You get to build your own flavor by choosing your shell, filling, icing and toppings!

Yelp
I love that this place is here. Each item is carefully and meticulously made to taste so good. I have been told by others to come earlier in the day so the puffs are more fresh, however I've personally never had a bad batch regardless of day. My personal favorites are the regular puffs with the standard vanilla cream or the crispy almond donut puff w/ any of the creams. Cost per puff "feels" a lil expensive but honestly I can't get myself to eat more than 2 at a time w/o feeling like its a abit much.
google avatar

Yuki M.

Yelp
My only favorite is the original puff with vanilla cream. I've tried the other flavors, but unfortunately the others are too sweet for me. Always fresh made ones are the best.

Yelp
If you haven't had Beard Papa's, oh my goodness! You are missing out. These cream puffs are absolutely delicious. I will say that we drove an hour for these! The cream puff dough is very light and fluffy with a crisp and the filling is sweet custard. I always get the classic custard filling because you can never go wrong with that, and it pairs well with all of their puffs. These puffs are sweet but not overly sweet, yet indulging at the same time. Every time I've been here, the workers are always friendly and helpful. They also fill the cream puffs as you order them, so that they are fresh! The overall establishment is very quiet and clean. There are a few tables on the inside if you choose to eat there. Whenever I am in town, this is a must to bring back home.

Yelp
I've been to Beard Papa a few times but tonight, I think I hit the jackpot when I asked for the staff's recommendation. The young lady said the chocolate cream puff is the most requested. From the list of the fillings, I chose the Vietnamese coffee filling and it was just delicious. I took it home to go and it was perfectly crispy on the outside. The chocolate is a high-quality dark chocolate that was perfectly sweet. For the price about four dollars it was delicious and hit the spot! I will return and I recommend this combo. Just be sure to keep your fur babies away since these treats are strictly for humans; specifically this cat mom on a Saturday night.

Yelp
I haven't had cream puffs in a long time, so I was excited to try this spot. I got the honey butter cream puff with vanilla filling. Loved the honey butter, it was light and paired well with the filling that was whipped well and not overly sweet.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious. I went in thinking "man, this is gonna be super sweet and heavy", but it was actually really good. It was actually lighter than I expected and not too sweet - which is great because I'm not a big fan of sweets or sweets that are too sweet lol.
google avatar

Yelp
Beard papas is nice place to get light snacks but I wasn't a huge fan of their cream puffs. The filling is not too sweet (just right) but their pastry just had an overpowering crisco taste to it. They are quite huge and they come in cute packaging. Their matcha was alright but wasn't the best that I have had.

Yelp
Why 5 stars? Because I could do some serious damage in here. --- --- --- I have seen many Beard Papa's in my time, but I have never stopped into one. Sometimes I do dumb stuff like not eat cream puffs. Here's the reality: I had one Oreo Cream Puff and took a couple bites of my wife's Chocolate Fondent. And I don't even really like chocolate. Am I qualified to review Beard Papa's? Probably not. But here's what I know. I thought the Oreo cream puff was a solid 4.5 stars. And I wanted to order about 5 other flavors, as most of them looked amazing. I'm going to give Beard Papa's the benefit of the doubt and assume that most of these at least somewhat tasted as delicious as they looked. I would love to try these puffs fresh out of the oven. I'm sure there's some trickiness to add the filling when they are super hot, but here's what I know: they would have potential to heal the sick if it works out as well I imagine it in my mind. I would have tried several more, but we had another dessert stop while at Katy Asia Town and didn't want to fill up at one place.

Yelp
The service was a 2 due to how unfriendly the lady was to me and my boyfriend. She was giving us attitude and when I ordered she was being very sassy. The cream puffs tasted good very flavorful especially the honey butter flavor! Definitely recommend trying that flavor.

Yelp
Best and probably only cream puffs in town. This is a "build your own" kinda place, which is great because they have some amazing options for toppings, and fillings. They even have holiday and special flavors like eggnog filling and Vietnamese coffee filling. We were serviced quickly even for making a few of our own puffs which was great. I would definitely visit here again!
google avatar

Yelp
I think this maybe the biggest disappointment for me in bakery terms. I was very eager to try the crème puffs at Beard Papa's and purchased several different varieties, but a cold crème puff just doesn't work for me or the kids. When my kids didn't like them, I knew something was off because they love sweets. Now this may be a nostalgic item for those who grew up eating them this way, so I just may not get it, but it wasn't enjoyable for me. Other than that it's in Katy's Asian Market area, so there is plenty of parking, the place is really cute, and the service was great. If you're a fan of these types of cold crème puffs, please go and enjoy!

Yelp
I loved their lavender lemonade and can't get enough of the ambiance of its interior. The shell of the puff is delicious and the cream is sweet enough to not make one feel bad for asking for more! 10/10 highly recommend

Yelp
Matcha cream puff - 4 stars Drink - 3 stars So overall a 3.5 star rating. Puff was nice and crispy outside and soft and tasty inside. Couldn't taste the sea salt caramel after mixing drink and matcha flavor was very very light..

Yelp
Greeted upon entry, as I was only customer. Friendly staff. Cream puff was good but was not impressed enough to return.

Yelp
I highly recommend this place! Not only was the service amazing, their puffs are delicious! The puff itself is so light and the filling isn't thick so I didn't feel that guilty eating it. I'm so happy I don't live closer because this would be my go-to. When you walk in you get to choose the shell and then the filling. They do it right there for you. If you buy 6, you get $1 off. I'm not sure if that sale ended anytime soon We also ordered a chocolate fondant. Heat it up for 15 seconds in the microwave and the middle will be oozing out with goodness. I'm excited to go back and try other flavors.

Yelp
This is one of those places that just take your words out of your mouth. Literally one of the best places I've been in a very long time. You must try this place at least once!!
google avatar

Robert B.

Yelp
Plus half a star. So it's great. I have never been let down going to Beard Papa no matter the location But much like any specialty place the only real downfall is seasonal options. Sometimes they hit it out of the park and it's only for fall or spring time of year. But overall it's really tasty and you can't go wrong with Beard Papa
google avatar

Mary B.

Yelp
The cream puffs are delicious! The have a wonderful shell they fill fresh for you on the spot. You choose the shell and the filling you want. The Chocolate fondant is wonderful with a lava chocolate filling. I recommend trying them.
google avatar

Yelp
3.5 stars Churro shell with vanilla filling ($3.90 cream puff) - yum! Frosting was good, puff was fresh, cream filling was plentiful! Kind of pricey, but it's good every once in awhile. Was in the area, but wouldn't go out of my way. Honey and butter cream puff - had this at the Bellaire location, and it was also good. Curious about the ube shell. Today, I wanted to try the crispy almond shell cream puff (looks like a donut), but apparently they've been on backorder for 2 months! (covid)
google avatar

Cirrus T.

Yelp
Growing up, I have always hated cream puffs because they were too sweet and the filling was too much for the light pastries. Ever since I tried the cream puffs at Beard Papas (KatyAsian town), I have fallen in love with their crispy cold puffs filled with light cream flavors. So yummy!
google avatar

Brandon B.

Yelp
This place is a MUST TRY! First of all, the cream puffs speak for themselves. Second of all, every single time we have ever been here the customer service has been absolutely phenomenal. We ALWAYS order the almond, honey butter and dulce de leche and then we go a little wild with the other 3 (you can't leave without half a dozen...at least)! We get vanilla cream because they always have it, but we have had awesome other cream flavors (that they rotate in) as well! It's a delicate, light desert (until you eat all 6 at once) and it's so consistent it's a staple in our household. I would recommend Beard Papa's to anyone and everyone and I promise you won't be disappointed!
google avatar

HG ..

Yelp
This place is dangerous, sooooo yummy. Their drinks are delicious and they cream puffs are so fresh and tasty even days after purchase. You will definitely have trouble leaving with just one cream puff!! Workers are super helpful and friendly!
google avatar

Debbie K.

Yelp
Very good cream puffs, filled right on the spot and you can choose to fill with several options Be extra careful when biting into. I've had several burst wide open and make a mess! Kinda pricey for one so make a good selection. I highly recommend the dulce de leche and green tea!
google avatar

Sean Y.

Yelp
Have to change my five stars to a three/three.five. We went back a few days after my first visit and the service was still good... ...but the puffs...they weren't! We got home and the box felt lighter than the previous visit. Bit into a puff and there was way less filling than the first time. Super sad moment! If these were cheaper than 3 bucks a piece I'd be okay with it, but for the price...it just wasn't worth it. Probably will not visit this place as often as the inconsistent product doesn't justify the $30.00 spent every time we visit. Sad as there was a lot of potential and good vibes after my first visit.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been here like 3 times and my experience was ok for all 3. When I first heard of Papa's, I was so excited to try it out. When it opened, I stopped by after work to buy some and to my liking, it was ok. They only had a few choices to choose from and I believe I got all the flavors they had at the time. I did not like the green tea one, it just tasted weird to me. I really liked the strawberrry with vanilla! My recent visit, I saw that they had more choices to choose from, like cookies n' cream, s'mores, creme brûlée, etc. I really liked the creme brûlée's and cookies n' cream with vanilla filling. Those were delicious! They're open during COVID and it's a quick in and out buying. I saw that they had drinks here as well, but I didn't get a chance to try out any. If you guys know those frozen cream puffs sold in groceries stores and you like those, I would definitely recommend to try these out! You can heat it up a little and have it warmed as well. Whenever I'm having a sweet tooth, I will be back!

Yelp
Some people say my reviews are WEIRD Some people booed them, others CHEERED But it's even worse than you first FEARED When you see my photos here at the BEARD Some chanted my name, others SMEARED Some flirted with me, others LEERED But the Yelp Police said my name is CLEARED And I should come take pix and review the BEARD So this is a place that is quite REVERED And the cream puff is something they PIONEERED And they're super nice when you get CASHIERED But you'll never get trim if you eat at BEARD And I hate to be the one that INTERFERED But if you have kids that you carefully REARED Then some creepy older dude with facial hair APPEARED I'd say "kids, stay away from the papa with the BEARD" WHAT I mean, wouldn't you? Beard Papa's is an awesome franchise selling cream puffs, and they can be delicious. But one of the main problems with this particular location of the franchise is that they didn't have a lot of the items on the first several visits that we made, so Barbie ended up thinking she didn't like it very much, and I'll still have to convince her otherwise. I had similar issiues - it was nowhere near as amazing as the one in Boston that I fell in love with first and the ones in New York for that matter. Still very awesome to have one of these in Katy and it's very busy as you would expect. We'll be coming back for more visits to see if I can improve her onions. I mean opinions. So whether you like big studs or fappers Men with silky voices or rappers You'll find what you need Yes, including my seed If you come down to Katy's Beard Papa's.

Yelp
This has been on my bucket list for a while. While the first location opened up in Chinatown, they have since expanded including those location in Asiatown in Katy. I stopped by on a Monday after dinner for some dessert. There's a large parking lot so that won't be an issue. Beard Papa's is all about customizable cream puffs. You choose your filling and "topping" and then they make it fresh for you. There are four choices for your filling: vanilla, chocolate, matcha, and the four option is escaping me. You have more choices for your topping including matcha, Oreo, honey, and several more. I tried two puffs along with their lavender lemonade. The lemonade was great and just the right mix of sweet and tart. It's also a visually appealing drink with the purple. With that being said, it was pretty pricey. I ended up enjoying the cream puffs and I'm happy I tried something different but it really isn't up there for me when it comes to desserts. The customization is cool as is the story of the company and its branding. They started in Japan where an old man with a beard (almost Santa Claus looking) started baking these cream puffs. One thing led to another and here we are.
google avatar

Ann L.

Yelp
Located in Katy Asia Town, their cream puffs are pretty solid. Not easy finding a place around Houston with this kind of quality. There's a variety of fillings and shell options on the menu. There are also drinks as well. My favorites are the creme brûlée and honey butter with original filling. Can never go wrong with these two options. The original fillings aren't too sweet at all and it goes great with any shell options. It's good to eat them right away for a better taste. This place can get crowded sometimes but services are relatively fast. You can order each puff individually and custom each puff to your likings.
google avatar

Matthew P.

Yelp
Not your ordinary type of pastry. You just the type of puff you want and then the filling you want inside. The combinations could "endless" but imagine biting into a puff and getting a slightly sweeten cream filling. That's what I like Even more about this place, it's not overly sweet so you can enjoy each bite. I also had the strawberry matcha which was very delicious because after mixing it you get a taste of all the components in one sip. It's a real nice cozy place just to grab a quick dessert or sweet snack. My only small downfall is there much more filling than the dough so it gets messy after each bite. Filling starts to leak out. Check out my IG menus.with.matt

Yelp
After reading all the great review my husband tried this after we had dinner in the area. Not really sure why everyone likes these puffs. It was a little more than $7 for them and we both were done eating them within 1-2 minutes. It did not cure my sweet tooth one bit. This is one of those places for me that I can say, "been there, done that." The stars are for the puffs, the were...ok, but not great.
google avatar

Yelp
First bite and I was hooked! I wasn't sure what to expect, I thought maybe it would be too sweet of a filling and outside really crispy hard. But I went to that counter and ordered cookies n cream with vanilla filling, original with cookies n cream, and honey butter with cookies n cream. First off they were light, flaky, fresh, and most importantly delicious!!! The fillings did not feel heavy, very flavorful, not too sweet, smooth, not thick, and light. I literally licked the paper it came in! Can't waste! Everything I ordered was equally delicious! I took a bite of my friends green tea with green tea filling and that was amazing! I went on Monday, memorial day, and there were no lines. I live quite a bit aways from this place but worth the drive!! Maybe they will open up one in clear lake *crossing fingers* =)

Yelp
Didn't try the cream puffs but their coconut coffee is the best. I'm sure they are good but I couldn't get passed the coffee it was so delicious

Yelp
I don't understand the bad reviews. We found this place when we were looking for desserts and visiting from San Antonio. The people were really nice and answered all of our questions. We got a few in case we didn't like them, ate them in our car and went right back for more! During the 5 days we were visiting, we went there 4 times to try a bunch of the different flavor combinations. It was really very good, even the next day after they were in the fridge. The shell is so damn good by itself. *Also sorry for the unappealing glove pics, we were in the hotel room and used this hack to not get messy

Yelp
I do not know what I really had I guess it will show in the picture but the food is good. I am not familiar with this type of food but the price is about the reasonable for an area like this and the service is excellent. I had some sizzling beef skillet plates - bell pepper since those are disgusting. Flavor definitely was not salty and did have some depth to it. This place was very clean as well as restrooms. Hard to tell if they are trying to cater to the 20 year olds or the older customers but it is a good mix on what it is.

Yelp
There's a specialty shop for everything now - cupcakes, matcha, Taiwanese bread, and most recently, cream puffs! Didn't think you needed that in your life, did you? Oh, but you do. An import from (you guessed it) Japan, Beard Papa's has got to be one of the best additions to the Houston dessert scene. Surprisingly not in Bellaire's Chinatown, this hot spot is located in Katy's new Little Asiatown (I think I'm just making names up) amongst (we counted) 5 tapioca shops. You want to stand out in a sea of bobas? Start making cream puffs. After bucket listing this place for months, we finally made it over here and boy was it worth it! We ended up order enough cream puffs to feed a small army, but no regrets here. Ranging from $3.20 to $3.70ish (the price brought this place down from 5 stars), the cream puffs are about the size of an average man's (or large statured woman's - I'm thinking of you Peggy Hill) fist. With an array of flavors (Original, matcha, chocolate, strawberry, and honey & almond) with various fillings (vanilla, chocolate, and matcha), you get to customize your taste buds' favorite treat. At the time we went (12/08/18), they had Creme brûlée and a couple of cheese and fruit puffs too. After trying the matcha filled with matcha and the original filled with the vanilla, you can't beat the original. The custard filling inside wasn't overly sweet but rich and plentiful, and the cream puff itself wasn't soggy, creating a perfect capsule for custard storage. The matcha was good too but the matcha frosting made the puff a little too sweet for my liking. Overall, this place is absolutely worth at least $3.20 of your hard earned money. If you like your family and friends, you'll bring some home to share (or eat the rest on your drive home).

Yelp
Once you open the door, wow, the smell will hypnotize you - it really smells that amazing! I always have to make a stop here every time I'm in this shopping plaza, it's seriously the best! They have fantastic customer service. You can get the plain shells or the covered ones. I really like the green matcha and the ube shell (it's not too sweet). I've tried a variety of fillings, but my favorites were the irish creme, classic vanilla and their special boba milk tea filling. I really enjoyed the texture of the boba-milk tea. They are pretty good when it comes to handling and preparation during COVID, which I truly appreciate.

Yelp
Had a semi quiet day at the office so decided to make the trek out to the new Katy Chinatown. I had been seeing new restaurants pop up and finally made the time to check it out. H-mart is the anchor and looks like they are the people behind creating a mini Chinatown on the Westside. It's genius! But the place that shocked me the most was Beard papa's it was getting a lot of rave and I found that it was all the way over on this side of town. We came at about 2 pm on a Friday afternoon and it was empty! I had saw the lines and glad things settled down a bit. I order a few different ones to eat right away and some more to try at home. I at the strawberry outside with ice cream filling, it was just basic vanilla ice, the strawberry shell was really dry. However, when I got home, I tried the vanilla filling inside of the honey shell, this thing was delicious! I also had the green tea shell with green tea filling this thing was awful. Finally, I tried the cream cheese with peaches, that one was just OK. So overall, the only one that impressed me was their classic vanilla filling and the honey shell because it's actually moist and sweet. Maybe my expectations were too high, but overall, just not all that.

Yelp
Damn good cream puffs! Loved the huge, crispy, slightly sweeten, outer shell. Really enjoyed the green tea cream filling. It is pretty expensive tho at over $3 a piece.

Yelp
I'm addicted. I waited for the hype to down to visit. I appreciate that when the store opens at 11am, the goods are ready to go. No waiting for the pastries, they are ready to be filled and out the door. I would come at opening and place my order and be quickly out. The puffs are heavenly and the filling so creamy good. The puffs themselves are big and a good size/serving. They give a discount for purchasing half or a full dozen. There is also a rewards program that is free to join to earn credit for future purchases. The ladies were super nice and patient. The store itself smells like freshly baked sugary bread. The only thing is... just being in there for less than 5 minutes, the smell can get embedded in your clothes and hair. Just saying. The menu varies daily as it seems to let you know what is available. So some special flavors may not be there when you get there, however the original, chocolate, green tea, and strawberry is so far standard. I am a fan of the classic vanilla filling. The honey butter shell and the crispy almond are my very favorite. The crispy almond is a circular donut like pastry which to my surprise could be filled with any filling. Love it. If you visit, order at least half a dozen. You wont regret it... buy just 1.. and you will.

Yelp
Did someone say "cream puffs"??! OMG. It's finally here and it's amazing! Plain and simple dessert concept. Choose your shell flavor and the filling you want. A bit pricey, over $3 a pop for these babies. I've tried the plain shell with vanilla filling and the chocolate shell with vanilla filling. I love both! Once you bite into the soft and flaky shell, the filling oozes out and you can even see the remnants of vanilla bean in the custard filling. Warning: must hold napkin with other hand cause it WILL get messy. Unless you're bougie and eat it with a fork and knife lol. They just opened and probably working out some kinks. My only complaint is that not all the flavors and varieties on the menu were available. This was my first time, but will not be my last! PS- it's located in "Katy Asian Town" off Colonial Pkwy (Personally, I don't care for this plaza name.)

Yelp
I was SO FREAKING EXCITED about a beard papa opening here. We half joked about camping overnight to be first in line at their grand opening today. We only came about an hour before opening and were maybe number 15 in line already. The line went for days by the time they opened. Shows you what kind of following Beard Papa has. By the time they opened the doors I instantly thought OMG DO YOU SMELL THAT THIS IS PROBABLY WHAT HEAVEN SMELLS LIKE. First impression when walking into the store was how friendly the staff was. They answered all my questions and were great to talk to! Second impression of this place was OMG LOOK AT THAT MASSIVE PILE OF CREAM PUFFS LETS TAKE THEM ALL HOME. We unfortunately didn't take them all home but we did try almost everything in the store so it's about time I get to the point and tell you about them. The way this works is you pick your shell (original, honey butter, eclair with either green tea, chocolate, or strawberry topping, or the Paris brest crunchy almond donut thing). Then you pick your filling (vanilla, chocolate, green tea, or ice cream - I think it was blue bell vanilla). They stuff all the puffs fresh for you. My favs: - Almond crunch Paris Brest circle donut thing: don't not get this just because it's not a puff pastry. We almost made that tragic mistake. Turned out to be my favorite because I love crunchy things and this had an amazing lightly sweet crunch to it. Perfect w the vanilla filling. - Honey Butter: the honey butter crust type topping on this cream puff was sweet and delicious! Went well with the vanilla filling but this would taste good w any filling. - Green tea eclair w green tea filling: the green tea filling is a great for green tea fans. Not too overwhelmingly tea flavored as some green tea flavored things can be. But I find that I prefer the original or honey butter type puff over the texture of the eclairs so I may try this one in those shells next time. - Creme Brûlée: this one comes made on its own so there's no filling to choose from. It's made with I think the vanilla filling. In terms of sweetness it falls between the original puff and the honey butter puff. Didn't really have much of that crunchy caramelized sugar topping so I'm not really sure where the creme brûlée part came in. It was still good tho and I'd order it again. - Chocolate eclair w chocolate filling: my friend loved this but I wasn't a huge fan. The eclair was good but the chocolate filling could be a little richer in its chocolate flavor, but that's just my personal preference. The two things I would pass on completely are the chocolate cake and the cheesecake. They're pretty basic and I asked myself why I ordered it with this being a cream puff place. At least I can tell you it's not really worth it. There is something to be said about their fillings. If you've been to a beard papa in Japan you will remember it to be a thick pudding texture that held its own when you bite into the puff. Theirs is a little thinner and makes for a messier puff eating experience. Still has a good flavor tho. Come here for the cream puffs and you will leave very happy and satisfied!!

Yelp
Beard Papa's was FULL of hype prior to the grand opening! I hadn't heard of the place until a month or so before the grand opening, but as the date got closer and closer its all I kept hearing people talk about. Finally happy that they opened! We came on the grand opening day and the line was ridiculous! Line wrapped around the entire building. We decided to leave cause we had somewhere else to be, but came back in the late afternoon to try again. The line was much more manageable this time, but we still waited around 40 mins before we got the chance to order. Getting to the front of the line, we were informed that they ran out of a lot of fillings/shells. We were also limited to only being able to buy 1 box of 6 cream puffs, 1 of which was the free original shell vanilla filling cream puff. Due to several things being not available our order was the original puff, chocolate shell vanilla flavoring, green tea shell green tea filling, crispy almond shell green tea filling, chocolate fondant, and custard cheese cake. Despite the really long lines, slow service, and multiple things being unavailable, the things that were available were delicious! I thought the shells would be a little softer/airy/cloud-like, but the fillings were spot on and not overly sweet. My favorites were the green tea shell with green tea filling, and the chocolate fondant. Green tea everything is always my go to choice and it didn't disappoint, and the chocolate fondant was luxuriously chocolatey with the soft outer layer and gooey inside layer. I know that Beard Papa's is here to stay, and I can't wait to come back. I'll probably wait a bit though so that the lines die down.

Yelp
Definitely excited that we have this in the Houston area! The little puffs were larger than I imagined, but they were heavier in texture versus my idea of them being airy and light. I was also disappointed that they ran out of several of the flavors, like the strawberry, creme brûlée, and the honey butter puffs from the grand opening. Now for the good. The chocolate molten was gooey, moist, and was amazing warmed up! The green tea had just enough matcha flavor, and thank God they didn't run out of these because I'm obsessed with green tea. The original was delicious as well, and a perfect combo of sweet and creamy! Lastly their cheesecake was soft, creamy, and the perfect size for a mini treat. One star down for the wait. Waiting 40 minutes for these treats were not exactly fun. Better planning could've occurred. With that being said, we may return when the hype dies down.

Yelp
Lovely Japanese dessert place in Katy Asia Town! Their specialties are the cream puffs and they are super delicious! They offer customizing options for both the puff and the cream. I usually get the original puff and give variety to the cream flavor - my favorite being matcha cream. The cream is very creamy and rich and yet not too sweet. The cream puffs feel super fresh because they fill in the cream once the order gets through. I went during lunch on a weekday and there was no one at the cafe but heard the line gets pretty long on the weekends. Worth visiting when you are around the area!
