Japanese Cream Puff Chain Beard Papa’s Opens in New Orleans - Eater New Orleans

"Beard Papa’s is known for its light and flakey cream puff, where the choux pastry shell is covered in a pie crust and filled with a mixture of whipped cream and custard. Customers can create their own by choosing their shell and custard filling, which comes in flavors like vanilla, green tea, and chocolate, as well as seasonal specials like pumpkin spice and mint chocolate. The New Orleans shop will also offer two unique flavors: king cake and bananas Foster. The topping choices get even more exciting: the puffs can be frosted with chocolate, strawberry, or green tea icing, as well as honey butter, crumbled cookies and cream, or sugary-crunchy almonds. Other Beard Papa’s desserts include the molten chocolate cake, cheesecakes, and creme brulees." - Clair Lorell

Promptly opened at 10a. Business is very clean, well lite and inviting. You have to show proof of vaccination to be able to eat in or wait for order in store. If you don't, just place order and wait outside. I recommend arriving early in the day. By the amount of people waiting for beard papa's to open, I imagine they sell out quick. Also, there is a process to making the cream puffs and they are filled per order so you may have to wait a few extra minutes for your order to be ready. Staff are friendly and tentative. There are bathrooms located at the end of the store. Just remember which door you went out of because when you come back you may end up in the business next to beard papa's due to there being a shared bathroom and no signage on door. I was the first to use the bathroom for that day and I could tell it had been cleaned. Now to the cream puffs. I had to try them as soon as I got back into my car. They are probably not the best snack to eat while driving. Can be slightly messy, but it was definitely worth it! The cream filling is not your typical puff filling and has a wonderful unique creamy semi sweet almost pudding taste to it. The puff itself is fresh and golden on outside and moist on the inside. It has a buttery melt in your mouth taste and feel. I highly recommend the butter almond with green tea filling. Luckily I order several of them which did not last long once I got home. Pricing is not exceedingly high for what you get. I think they are just the right size and filled to perfection. I highly recommend taking a peek and maybe picking up a few to satisfy that sweet tooth or in between snack craving!

Stopped by here because we saw it as we walked own the street. Tried the almond puff with vanilla cream. The puff was lightly crunchy and very sweet. The custard had a light vanilla flavor and very creamy. I wasn’t blown away, but I also just don’t care for custard filled pastries.

They just opened and have a great selection of different cream puff pastries with the option of several cream fillings. Take the chance & go visit. We got 2 Oreos (Chocolate & Vanilla fillings), Honey w/ Banana Foster, Creme Brûlée, Chocolate w/ Chocolate, & Green Tea w/ Matcha @phidingthefam

Beardpapa has the best creampuff ever! Their creampuffs have been my fav since I was young, I always went to a branch in Bangkok, Thailand. The taste is still the same, these creampuffs help with feeling homesick! The pastry is always awesome!

I've been to other Beard Papa's, and this location's food is up to the same high standards. Add on Southern hospitality, and this was the best experience I've had at a Beard Papa's. We came straight from a parade, and the workers chatted with us and gave us a bag for our beads. I got the king cake puff as this is unique to NOLA. Worth a try, but I think I like the classics better.

Got 4 different pastries - 1 for each person. I got the strawberry eclair with cookie and cream filling. Let's just say if they were open by the time I devoured mine - would've gotten 3 more! Everyone else said that they had the same feelings about theirs. Get your taste buds on for here - spend a few minutes to read about Papa

The puffs are amazing. I just had surgery and a friend brought me a couple and it was so much better than getting flowers. The pastry is so light and the cream was perfect because it was just sweet enough. I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed a treat that much. I really liked the chocolate! 😋

If you're into pastries and want a quick bite this is the place. The flavor's well worth it the place is bright and welcoming and the staff is quite friendly. The options are good not to mention the presentation. The puffs are a bit messy to eat, they're a fun eat and they have napkins for after the mess. Coming back again soon!
