The Best Restaurants in and Around Yellowstone National Park | Eater

"West Yellowstone’s Beartooth BBQ isn’t just another barbecue destination with a saloon-like facade and antler-clad dining room. It’s the quintessential mountain town restaurant, where you can tackle burly plates of ribs, chopped beef brisket, and heady sausages. Check out the Mad Dog, a smoked hot link smothered with chopped brisket on a hoagie; sliced turkey dinners served with pickles, onions, and thick-cut wheat bread; and atypical barbecue sides like green chili creamed corn, baked cheese grits, tabouli, and cowboy caviar: a lemony chilled salad of black-eyed peas, black beans, and corn." - Matt Kirouac

Google
Great BBQ!!! If you’re in the area please stop in! Hot links were awesome and the brisket was delicious!!! My wife had the pulled pork and the kids had kids meals and picked off our food. Our server Jen was super nice and so helpful. Great customer service!

Google
A great place to stop! The meat was all pretty good, we liked the brisket and ribs the best. As for sides, the grits and baked beans were the overall favorite. Little on the pricey side, to be expected per tourist country. From when we ordered though it took at least 30 minutes to get our food which was frustrating. They no longer have fries or Mac and cheese as sides, so just be aware. But overall good

Google
Came for the gluten free options and left very satisfied! Paid just a little over $30 per person with our Brisket dinner. Had the option to add a flavor shot to any of our drinks if we wanted. Highly worth the wait!

Google
Stopped there with family heading home. I had pulled pork and wife brisket. Side was creamy cheese grits. The pork was average, nothing great. Also only had one choice of sauce. Grits were also average. Was ok for a quick meal but was pricy, which could be expected for a tourist town. Probably would not go back if in area again but try another place

Google
I'm not a foodie but this place is a must stop!! I got the brisket and jalapeno sausage with slaw and creamy baked cheese grits. Holy Sh*t was it good! Brisket was tender and full of flavor. The barbecue sauce is excellent! My wife and I went through a 1)2 bottle. Staff was pleasant and friendly. Constantly checking in on us. We're starting a 4 day stay in Yellowstone. We'll be back here for sure!!

Google
Not enof Google reviews reflecting how GOOD this is! Tats why we r here - came back 2 nights out of our 3 because it was a no brainer ! The other night was to check out the competition (but we love this BETTER! Hands down)The ribs and briskets are outstanding! The spicy bbq sauce is a must. Cream corn and slaws are our fav. Love the selections of local drag beer! Service was excellent- friendly and make you feels comfortable. Come n leave reviews to reflect how good they are - u won’t regret!

Google
I'm going to be that person . . . Wasn't very impressed. The people were nice and the service was good. But there just wasn't anything extraordinary about the food, it was just kind of average. Have definitely had better BBQ. And was a little disappointed in the lack of selections on the menu . . . I know it's a tourist town, but for the amount of food we got the prices were a bit extreme to me. 🤷‍♀️

Google
As tourists, we wanted to try American food and this is one of the places to do so. The 1/2 rack spare ribs were tender and juicy, very delicious indeed. The pulled pork dinner was not bad, you would need to add the source provided to make it tasty. The main courses all come with a piece of cut loaf bread (which seems quite a strange thing to us), and two sides of one’s own choice. We liked the Creamy Corn. The Cowboy Caviar had nice ingredients but the dressing was on the sour side, perhaps comes straight from the supermarket bottle. The Creamy Baked Cheesy Grits were very solid and filling, without much taste. The amount is very huge and we had to share the portions. It seems amazing to us that locals can finish such huge quantities by one person! The ambience is your average American diner. But we must say the waitresses and waiters were super efficient and friendly.

Yelp
Wonderful food at Beartooth and Kiki is the best Host. Love the Mad dog sandwich and the brisket sandwich including the potatoes salad and those baked beans. Just fab! And don't forget the coleslaw.

Yelp
I wish I could have this juicy and moist BBQ daily. It's so much more delicious after spending a long time in the park and consuming the calories that were just burned off LOL. The 2 meat option was enough to feed four. To my benefit, it fed my partner and I and we had a little to take home on our long drive. Service was very friendly and everyone was really appreciative of the business. It's a casual spot that may get all types of visitors but honestly, it seemed like a place that made you feel right at home. I'd for sure come again!

Yelp
I feel like we found a gold mine here! The service was quick and friendly. The food was hot and fresh and came out quickly. We ordered the chopped brisket and pulled pork. For sides, we got the creamed corn, baked beans, bbq chips, and cheesy baked grits. You could tell that everything was made in house and fresh. It was all delicious. My husband voted the creamed corn and brisket as his favorites. I loved the cheesy grits and brisket too. The kids loved the pulled pork. The bbq chips were so good too. Overall, we would definitely come back here!highly recommend! Especially after a long day in the park. Skip eating in the park and come here for din

Yelp
The BBQ was delicious first off. The staff were friendly and the service was good. The inside was a perfect display of Yellowstone and all its pretty picturesque sights to see. How ever they didn't have sliced brisket which is why I even went in.. and they didn't have the drink I wanted even though it was offered on the menu so that was a double rejection which is why 4 starts are are given. But stopping here on our road trip from CA, AZ, NV, ID, MT, UT, WY to enjoy Yellowstone national park this was good stop to end at.
google avatar

Evelyn K.

Yelp
Excellent service and food! They have gluten free meat and sides. Izzy was our server and we had the ribbon meat combo along with four sides. They were all gluten-free. The only thing that isn't gluten-free is their sausages according to what they said. No gluten-free bread though. Thank you so much for an excellent lunch.!
google avatar

Jessy M.

Yelp
Service great, brisket sandwich great. Loved the bbq sauce. Glad we stopped in for lunch, it was definitely good. I didn't love the baked beans.
google avatar

Mike J.

Yelp
So...tourist town. Yes they are a bit pricey especially when related to the quantity. I had the chopped brisket and it was well prepared. Their bbq sauce was quite good for this application and they have a slightly zestier one at the table. Beans also were good. Potato salad not what I would get if I go back. The dressing in it was mediocre and never really tasted any onions or eggs. Be prepared for a 3% charge if you use a CC. Technically they warned you on the menu, but it was listed under the section that said 'Local Favorites'? Huh?

Yelp
Very very good barbecue in West Yellowstone! It was full on a Saturday night so you know it's good! I had a very hard time choosing between all of the sides because they all looked phenomenal. I went with the pulled pork platter that comes with toast, and a side of the creamed corn. I am so happy I went with that choice, because it was the best at the table! We also ordered a side of their homemade potato salad, which was tasty. I sampled my friends cowboy caviar (a mix of black eyed peas, beans, and corn) and it was pretty good!

Yelp
Had a pulled, pork sandwich that was delicious. Lean meat with crispy bits. Also crispy Cole slaw with a good balance of flavors. The waitress was friendly and helpful. It was a lovely day, so the windows were open to the street, a lovely breeze. Very nice!

Yelp
Why not 5 stars? The price. That's it. Everything else was fantastic but yeah man it's expensive. My 2 meat meal with ribs and brisket was $50. Now, the portions are big, you could easily share it. You get a half rack of ribs and probably close to a pound of SLICED, not chopped, brisket. The meat was amazing. Tender, flavorful. The BBQ sauce was great. The beans were just the right thickness and flavorful, the potato salad was great. The service was great too, my waitress was quick, attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. The ambiance is what you would expect from a small town BBQ place. I loved it.

Yelp
Disappointing. We stopped at Beartooth BBQ after strolling the streets for a couple of hours of gift shopping in West Yellowstone. One of the waiters greeted us, seated us, and got our drink orders. When it was time to order, our waiter then alerted us that the kitchen was out of ribs until 5 pm....it was currently 3 pm. What ticked us off is that we witnessed the other waiter alerting incoming guests of the ribs shortage before even seating them - ensuring that the customers knew they were out and only seated them if THEY were OK with that. As expected, we saw 2 parties turn around and leave. We would have appreciated that same disclosure and would not have dined here if we knew a BBQ place was out of BBQ ribs. Food: * Bad Dog ($20.99): It's a hot dog with some brisket on top. It's tasty, but overpriced for a hotdog. * Green Chili Corn: Good. It's cheese corn. Not spicy at all. Has good flavor. Beartooth BBQ was OK. Service can be improved - disclose unavailable items - especially if it's something that your establishment is known for - before seating customers so it could save time for both our sakes.

Yelp
Food was really good! I had smoked turkey and husband had pulled pork - both were excellent! BBQ sauce had a little sweet taste, which I love. Service was pretty good. Had to go to the counter to get the check (I hate to beg to pay). Ambiance was nice, but the restaurant is small and tables are close.

Yelp
First dinner in Montana, and we chose BBQ. I had high expectations, and we went with the reviews. I was so disappointed with the brisket. It was dry. Had to use the given sauce on the regular. Not even that layer of fat left on the slices could help. The pink smoke ring typically found on perfectly smoked brisket was thin. Bread was a dry slice, thin wonder bread looking thing. Best Brisket so far found in Kansas, and two places in California. Yes...California! This place needs to work on it. I'm being generous with 2 stars. The cowboy caviar was good, beer was cold.

Yelp
Since it was cold and rainy, I was craving for something hearty and tasty. Looked through Yelp and decided to go with my fellow yelpers. Plus the Bad Dog got my attention. Parking was easy on the streets. Nice ambiance with a few TVs with sports on. Service was simple and quick. We ordered our meals and waited patiently for it. The Bad Dog with topped with brisket was phenomenal!! It was so much good, but soooooo delicious! Pair it with the green chili corn...OH EM GEE!!! And then washing it down with Coke! AAAAGGGHHH!! Dang it, I want some now! I enjoyed my meal very very much, but unfortunately my tummy could only handle so much food. I couldn't finish my corn =( My boyfriend enjoyed his pulled pork sandwich very much, but probably not as much me and my dog, lol. Would definitely come back when we're back in town!

Yelp
The food was so good the first time we stopped in that we returned our last night. Great BBQ , great service and atmosphere. S. Riley

Yelp
Looking for pulled pork or brisket , southern style BBQ. @Bearrhood is your place. The pork is delicious. The brisket is juicy and smoked to perfection. The staff is knowledgeable about the menu. A southern treat in W Yellowstone.
google avatar

Leroy H.

Yelp
We ordered the two hot dogs available on the menu. While the hotdogs with the extra meat on top were a nice addition to the flavor of the hotdog the sides were disappointing. We noticed the table in front of us left their sides uneaten. The portion size is small and lacked flavor. Wanted to order ribs but there were out. I wish the waiter said something before we sat down ordered drinks. IMO if you run out of ribs at a BBQ joint you should let your customers know right away. Price reflects their Yellowstone location, not their quality.

Yelp
Sat at the bar as the place was packed at 6pm. It's not the biggest place, but we were taken care of quickly. Friendly staff and helpfull. Hubs & I shared this platter and it was just right. Total of 4 ribs, 2 a piece and we asked fpr the spicy bbq sauce. Neither one of us liked the potato salad, we enjoed the corn salad better. The restaurant is your typical bbq place with lots of paper towels and food.

Yelp
PARKING // Free and ample parking around the back. Dirt lot, tons of space for autos & autos w/trailers. EXTERIOR // Western type of setting. Very appropriate as with being near Yellowstone. INTERIOR // Country western motif. Casual environment. Basic wooden tables and chairs, small bar that you can sit at and limited seating for approximately 15 to 17 tables. FOOD // sliced brisket barbecue beans and coleslaw were outstanding. Very good BBQ and you can always tell if the BBQ is going to be good based upon how good the baked beans are. SERVICE // Prompt and friendly. Attentive, bit not overwhelming. SIDE NOTE // While on vacation, more than once people ASS-UMED my friend and I were a couple. Stop judging and assuming. It makes you look stupid and ignorant.

Yelp
Friendly service, came by often to check up. They were out of sliced brisket and ribs, a little disappointed as it was 1pm on a weekday. Everything tastes as expected, the grits were my favorite part. Brisket was not too dry and the potato salad had a good proportion of ingredients
google avatar

Marshall M.

Yelp
Excellent Southern-style BBQ, delicious! Chopped beef brisket, baked beans & BBQ sauce were all SO good! Friendly, prompt service. Want cheaper? Go to McD's down the street. Want really good food? Come here.

The sauce is amazing sweet barbecue & hot. Thank you Izzey for great service. We were so hungry after Yellowstone park second day. We had a great dinner at yr cool establishment!

Love the ribs and the beer there, you can actually find several options for food and for side dish

Yelp
Thank you for being such a great place to enjoy BBQ! I ordered the sides of delicious cornbread, tabouli, and the creamed corn! SO DELICIOUS! Also they had a special, do yourself a favor and always ask for the special, you will not be let down!!

Yelp
The loaded hotlink was fantastic and the BBQ sauce was delicious. Great beer menu and the super friendly waitress performed some of the best service I've had in quite a long time.

Yelp
Conveniently located on the main drag in West Yellowstone, Beartooth Barbecue is the real deal. Served on a soft, Montana wheat bun, the pulled pork sandwich ($17 with one side) was delicious. Cooked in house, the pork was tender and juicy with just the right amount of smoke. The accompanying barbecue sauce was almost perfect: with a little chili powder, it balanced sweet, acid and spice quite nicely. The beartooth baked beans were an excellent choice for a side: not cloyingly sweet, a little spicy with a little smoke. With shredded cabbage, tomato and cucumber in a light housemade dressing, the summer slaw ($5) is a great foil to the meaty entreés. Service is fast and friendly. There are several local craft brews on tap to slake your thirst. If you are in West Yellowstone with a hankering for barbecue, Beartooth Barbecue should be your destination.

Yelp
Hygiene is so important when it comes to food - no one is enjoys no matter how good the food is if you end up finding something in your food - I found hair in my cream corn!!! I really did not want to find it- and there it was sitting, going deep inside my cream corn. Honestly the barbecue was really good and the bad dog sandwich too - they also have great selection of beers! Our server Diana was super sweet! But yes it's the hair for me that spoiled the experience! Hope they pay more attention to what goes in their food! Disappointed
google avatar

Alvin B.

Yelp
Food was great! I had the Mad Dog sandwich with potato salad and my wife had the pulled pork sandwich sandwich with coleslaw. The meal was better than expected and our sever Jen went above and beyhond to make sure we were pleased with the meal and service.
google avatar

Evelina N.

Yelp
This place was delicious! We stopped by after visiting Yellowstone, since we weren't excited about the food options around old faithful. The waitress was really fun, I loved her vibe. We got a rack of ribs to share, they were amazing! I had sweet tea also which is one of my top favorite beverages of all time so I was thrilled about the tea. I was not totally obsessed with the sides but that was more of a personal thing since I really wanted candied yams and they didn't have those, which isn't a crime. Definitely worth stopping by after a trip to Yellowstone!
google avatar

Molly H.

Yelp
The sliced brisket and pulled pork were fine, but nothing to write home about. Sides all oddly had too much pepper. Our kid's hot dogs looked petrified and the buns were on the verge of being stale. Service was good, but we've definitely had better meals overall.
google avatar

Pete G.

Yelp
The bbq is solid, authentic and smoked well. Enjoyed our family dinner here, service was great and the restaurant has a real bbq feel to it. All in all a great experience and would certainly go back!
google avatar

Yelp
Staying in this town before going into Yellowstone national park the next day. and were craving some meat. We googled good BBQ in the area and this place popped up. Got some nice ice cold local draft beers. Then we ordered pulled pork and brisket with beans, creamed corn, cowboy caviar, cheese grits and cornbread. We loved everything. Good BBQ sauce, sides were excellent and the meats were tender and delicious didn't even need the BBQ sauce it was so flavorful.
google avatar

Cindy S.

Yelp
The ribs are Amazing! I don't think I have ever had ribs that just fell of the bone and the sides are amazing. The restaurant is family owned and it shows. Everyone is friendly and is ready to help with whatever you need. It is western themed. If you are looking for a casual bbq this is the place for you! Oh by the way everything you eat is homemade!
google avatar

Catherine B.

Yelp
Beartooth barbecue has some of the best barbecue I've ever had... the pulled pork is amazing
google avatar

Angie D.

Yelp
Got the turkey & chopped beef brisket with cowboy caviar & baked cheese grits. As I am not really a fan of BBQ in general I did not use any of the provided sauce. The meats were smoked to perfection; well seasoned & not dry which can be hard to do with turkey. The cowboy caviar was slightly spicy as advertised and extremely flavorful. I have never had baked cheese grits before but they were alright. They were dryer than the breakfast grits I have had in the past, considering they were baked after being cooked that is not surprising. The establishment atmosphere is casual and welcoming. The only reason it is not a 5 star rating is due to the fact that my order was delivered slightly wrong; the corrected it as soon as it was noticed & it was busy.
google avatar

Johana P.

Yelp
Stopped by after a long day in the park and we were not disappointed! Ordered the sliced brisket, cowboy caviar, tabouli and smoked sausage. Everything came in big portions (worth the price), great flavor and all the sides tasted fresh. Wish they had locations in other states! Til next time Beartooth BBQ!
google avatar

Anna H.

Yelp
Excellent food, service and quality!! Ambiance is typical BBQ but food is over the top delicious!!

Yelp
The brisket was perfectly smoked and tender. The wait staff was very attentive. It was also one of the the few restaurants open on Monday. All 4 of us were stuffed after a delicious meal.

Yelp
We really enjoyed Beartooth! Excellent bark/crust and smoke ring on the pork. The creamed corn was fantastic and the potato salad was superb.

Yelp
Best Beef Brisket in West Yellowstone! Located just 0.7 miles outside of the West Entrance of Yellowstone National Park in the busy town of West Yellowstone we found this restaurant with the least amount of wait time on their waitlist which was none, we got a table instantly. This is a table service restaurant, we walked inside and we were told that we could choose any table that had a paper menu. No wait time here. The menu isn't very big but they specialized in smoked brisket, pulled pork and ribs. We placed our order and the food came quickly... it was all delicious! We had Sliced Beef Brisket, side of Green Chili Creamed Corn and Beartooth Baked Beans. wow! best brisket ever, tender and tasty and I loved that creamed corn! Our waitress was friendly and helpful and was on the ball. Prices were reasonable and serving is decent. The restaurant had an upbeat western ambiance. Glad we made the choice to stop here before making the 90-mile drive back home to Bozeman. Parking can be challenging. The whole area is filled with restaurants, shops and more restaurants and shops. Review #2324

Yelp
Did a family meal here- good beer selection. All the meat eaters *loved* their sammie/entree however, the sides were an afterthought. Wished they had some sort of plant-based option outside of their sides. Good music playlist. Clean. Waitress was great!

Julie L R.

Yelp
This is now my favorite restaurant!! The food was fabulous. The best ribs I've ever had! It didn't look like a lot of food when it arrived, but even my teen son couldn't finish it all. I'll definitely be returning every single time I'm in West Yellowstone!
google avatar

Sara Y.

Yelp
Tasty food but pretty expensive for the amount of food given. Service was great though! My son enjoyed the pork sliders and my husband and I enjoyed the meats. My husband got the meat combo with sausage and brisket pieces and the meat was excellent for his meal as well. He had potato salad for one of his sides and said it was just okay.
google avatar

Dani S.

Yelp
Food is good, restaurant is not very clean. Service is spotty. Came here for dinner one night because I was craving BBQ. The restaurant was small but very busy. We were able to get a small table in the corner pretty fast which was nice. Our server took our order right away and the food came out really fast. The pulled pork was good, but everything else was mediocre. The corn touboulle was really good. Prices are reasonable. Overall, decent experience.
google avatar

KT W.

Yelp
We shared the chopped brisket dinner. It was just a tiny bit dry, so was the bread, but the homemade BBQ sauces, baked beans & potato salad were excellent, and the quantities large. Service was great and quick. I ordered a Diet Coke and Keke asked if I wanted huckleberry in it? It was delicious

Kevin D.

Yelp
Being from Texas, we know a bit about BBQ. With that said, it was like being at home. The brisket and the turkey were absolutely mouth watering. The brisket was so tender that it literally melted in your mouth. We tried the grits and cream corn and they were outstanding as well. To top it off, Kiki (owner) and Jen (waitress) were the kindest and most thoughtful people we've met throughout our week long trip. Plus, they had sweet tea! Thank you for thinking of the South! Can't wait to come back.

Donna L.

Yelp
Server was nice but she didn't have any help so the place was a mess. Food was okay. Mostly bar like.
