I'm in a chapter of my life where I default to karaoke as the go-to group activity, and have been going about 2-3x a month for the past many months, across continents, and across boroughs here in NYC. I was so excited to read about this place, which boasts features like autotune, competitive karaoke games, and a full menu of bites and cocktails.
We were there last night, which is only their 12th day of operation so certainly they're working out some kinks, but here's my feedback.
There is a bit of a learning curve with the UI. You can have up to 4 singers playing any individual singing game (there are only 2 of these games) and you need to do things like assign singers to each song. While it wasn't overly complicated for our tech savvy group and the staff kept coming in to check that we figured out the system, it still ate up about 20 mins of our time figuring out this system for each song and each game, which they did not give back to us in terms of actual singing time.
For what looks like such an expensive buildout, the sound quality was really not the best. You couldn't hear yourself singing too well over the sound of the music, even when you could adjust the volume of the mic. The autotune feature, which was among a few other voice alteration options was a cheap gimmick that got old very fast. The games were not very thoughtful or fun. The space was really clean and the stage made for really performances though.
The prices of the drinks were outrageous. $23 for a not very nice glass of wine, more for cocktails. The snacks (we ordered pretzels with dip and popcorn) were all so overly salted we thought they couldn't possibly want us to eat them.
Overall we had fun but the cost difference between a place like this and a normal karaoke spot was not made up for in terms of the quality of the experience. Completely false advertising and I will not be returning.
