I don't even like oysters, and I'm still enamored by Beaucoup. This intimate bar took over the Commercial Taphouse space and clearly put in the work to renovate and elevate the ambiance. They recently opened to much fanfare, for good reason.
Right now they're not accepting reservations, but the wait wasn't terrible at all (roughly 50 minutes during primetime on a Saturday night). They take down your phone number so you can migrate elsewhere while you wait, and they call when you're next in line, so you have time to get back without losing your spot.
The tables are extremely close, like so close that they have to be moved to let the person on the booth side in and out. If that's not your vibe, maybe skip or come at an off-peak time. They have bar seating as well, but they do not have seat backs, which I cannot tolerate in my old age with a creaky back.
Service was great for the most part. At one point our server took my order and then left when my friend was ready to order too, but I think that was just opening weekend jitters and also it's fairly loud in there. It didn't take her long to come back either.
I ordered one of their signature drinks to drink, the Off the Wall gin cocktail, to start. It was well done, very refreshing, and not overpoweringly boozy.
For food, I ordered the Comte cheese, which came with the mini pickles whose name escapes me, some bread, and some tangy mustard. It was so good. A very mild cheese. My friend had an herbal cheese dip with chips that I didn't like quite as much.
I also ordered the fries with garlic aioli. They tasted so familiar. I feel like they must be duck-fat fries even though the menu didn't specify. Either way, they were tasty.
For my meal, I ordered the flounder filet, which came in a room-temperature soft-boiled egg sauce. In theory that sounds disgusting, in actuality, it was SO GOOD. Like the ideal complement to the perfectly cooked fish.
I had a great first impression all in all. The only downfall was that partway through our meal, a couple sat next to us and the woman had bathed in perfume before going out. Please don't be that person.
Anyway, I'm sure I'll be back!
