London’s Best Outdoor Wine Bars | Where to Drink Wine Outside in Tier 2 | Eater London

"Bedales has adapted to the imperfect storm of oven-like weather and enforced social distancing by allowing its seating to run out and over the streets of Borough Market like a scene from Fellini’s Roma. Enjoying a post-work glass here is a thing of genuine beauty. The independent, family-owned wine bar rarely misses its mark and, honestly, if someone can’t find something they fancy drinking at Bedales... All hope is lost. Near neighbour Flor is also a great shout if seeking pizza to go with wine. Site two on Mare Street in Hackney has a has good outdoor seating, too." - Lucas Oakeley

Lovely Wine Bar! A cozy little spot with a great wine selection and friendly, knowledgeable staff. Perfect for a relaxed afternoon and small plates that pair nicely with the drinks. Highly recommend for anyone who loves good wine in a warm atmosphere!

We stumbled upon this place accidentally and what a good find it was! An amazing food, especially scallops and oyster mushrooms with an excellent wine pairing. Great relaxing atmosphere, kind and cheery service. All and all highly recommend!

On a visit to the Borough markets I spotted this place which had an outdoor view of the market but away from the hustle and bustle. I had a light lunch with a glass of wine. It was delicious and just the right size for one. No need to doom scroll on my phone as there was plenty of action to watch in the market for those who like people watching. The service was also excellent.

We stopped by for some wine after visiting Borough Market. The restaurant has upper and lower porches overlooking the market as well as inside seating. The wine selections are extensive both by the glass and bottles. Great snacks to go along with them as well as food for real lunches and dinners. You can get a 125ml or 250ml pour by the glass. The staff is well trained to talk about wines. They also have the menu sorted to give you a head start on what white or red you might like to try. If you're at the market, give them a try. FYI- No food from market can be brought into the restaurant.

Google
An absolute gem. Sit upstairs for a view across Borough Market. Cocktails were superb and wine selection excellent. We didn’t eat hit all the plates that passed by looked delicious.

Google
This is such a great wine bar. We sat in the balcony overlooking the market. Just fantastic. We enjoyed a bottle or reasonably priced red wine and a delicious cheese selection. Mushroom skewers were also delicious. I’m only giving three stars as the king prawns were so disappointing. We got three average tasking prawns for nearly £20. Such a shame as we enjoyed everything else.

Google
Bedales of Borough is an incredible wine bar with a very broad selection of wines to choose from from all over the globe. All of the team working here are very hospitable and helpful. I came in on my own and Camilo sat me down at the bar and made me feel incredibly welcome the entire night. If you have the opportunity to come and taste some amazing wine, ask for Camilo and he will make your day. I will be coming back here as often as possible.

Google
Best wine bar in London hands down. They serve amazing orange wines if you like. Every time I come here, they deliver. Each seating area has a great vibe. My favorite is upstairs but the downstairs indoor and outdoor vibes are both fab. Friendly and helpful service of course. You won’t be disappointed unless you’re super lame.

Yelp
The Borough market is a phenomenal place And Bedales is a little haven in the chaos. We stopped for food and drinks. Wonderful espresso martini. Great starters and comfortable seating and good people watching.

Yelp
I needed a break from the bustle of Borough Market. The market was so busy on this particular Friday that the lines for food stalls were crazy. Bedales turned out to be a great overhead view to people watch while enjoying a snack with a glass of wine. I wish the tuna tartar would have come with a few chips or crackers but thats nitpicking. It was very good and fresh. I would absolutely visit again on another London vacation.

Yelp
I came with a group of 6 after work on a Thursday. We were seated outside in the back which is a small area but enough space to move around if your group is bit on the larger side. We ordered multiple food items such as sourdough bread, jamon croquettes, humus and some other things. While they are small plates, everything was delicious especially the croquettes. Although I drink wine, I'm not well versed to talk on that but the red wine options my coworker chose were really good. Overall, I would definitely come back here again. The hostess was nice and I enjoyed my time here.

Yelp
Lovely spot located in Borough Market. After shopping the stalls, I stopped here for a couple refreshing glasses of dry cab franc rosés and frites. Francesco was very attentive and kind. The ppl watching is great and they have wifi.

Yelp
Stopped by here on a bank holiday when few of the shops in the Borough Market are open. Was a fortuitous decision to come here. Sure, I could eat those sausage sandwiches sold by the vendors on the market perimeter. They look amazing but the lines were long and seating was hit and miss. But we ventured into the market a bit and found this place. The best of wines from around the world. A quaint space that is comfortable and warm, if not romantic. Wine selection is vastly eclectic and affordable. And the food. The Croque Monsieur was phenomenal and the options for charcuterie are great. My wife and I shared a bottle of Ciauria, recommended by the attentive staff. Made a good day a great one. If you visit the Borough and are looking for something a bit refined yet warm and relaxing, this is the place.

Yelp
Grabbed a seat outside facing the market. Cab franc and chardonnay. Friendly service and great way to watch the action on a Saturday.

Yelp
The borough market is stunning and lively and is the second time I stop at Bedales for some cheese and ham platter and some wine. Great for a stop in the afternoon and a little bit of chat and gossip with your friends! ;-) Try it!

Yelp
Bedales was our go-to spot in the market for Prosecco refills and the staff couldn't have been any more friendlier and accommodating with our repeat visits for more bubbles! 5 quid will get you a glass of prosecco for take away or you can purchase a bottle for not much more. You also have the option of sitting down and enjoying their delicious & vast wine selection accompanied by small plates to share. The setting is cozy and easily accessible and not difficult to locate.

Yelp
I unfortunately received horrendous treatment here. Particularly by the French guy with dark hair. This particular member was so rude and aggressive - it was complete appalling. It's people like that that put people off of wine bars. Stuck up and pretentious and rude. We also witnessed this guy being rude to other customers. I shall be avoiding this place like the plague in the future and suggest you do too..
google avatar

Yelp
Weird. When I arrived all the tables were full so they said I could stand and wait but there was no where to stand. It was very awkward holding two menus just standing in the middle of the place. I was seated after about 10 minutes, but in the basement and the damp really hits you as you walk down the stairs. It's also smells like a toilet. Our waiter was abrupt and unhelpful - we wanted advice on the cheese board, and he just read what was on the menu. If you go, make sure you're seated upstairs, and don't rely on the staff to tell you about the wine/cheese selections.

Yelp
Was shocked by the appalling treatment we received today. Been coming to this establishment for 10 years. My relatives from the US always want to come here when they visit and I've recommended it to dozens. Never again. Today, as I've done many times before, we (along with my US family) came here, got our prosecco and sat down at a barrel table outside. Actually, we shared a barrel with another couple (who were fine about it) and utilised only 1 seat, with 1 glass resting on the table itself. There is nothing to say that if your drink is served in a plastic glass, you must leave. But that is what we were rudely told. First of all by a female server with short blonde hair and a bandana hairband and next by a tall, well-built man with a beard and a green top. I explained that we had been coming here for years and it's never been a problem. They didn't care. In fact the man tried to physically block us from the table with his arm. I was shocked. We often come here, start with a couple of glasses of prosecco then order bottles of wine and food. We've done this for years. It is ridiculous that you have to leave the premises if, heaven forbid, you get your prosecco in a plastic glass and there is nothing to say that you can't. Surely if people were allowed to stay, they're going to order more. They'd make more money from people going back and forth with prosecco top-ups than a single couple nursing a bottle of wine for 2 hours. They clearly don't want or need the business. I told the male server that I had never been treated so rudely in my life. My mother received similar treatment when she sat outside at the front (again with a drink in a (shock, horror) plastic glass that she'd bought from THEIR establishment. In fact she jokingly asked if he'd prefer it if she crossed the road and stood there instead - he said yes. Shocking treatment and appalling customer service. We will never come here again and will be telling others the same.

Yelp
Right in the middle of borough market so a fantastic spot! You can sit in or out but it's really busy so best just to wait for a space once you get there. Wines can be expensive but are well worth it! They do great platters, charcuterie or cheese or a mixture of both! On a Saturday very busy but a really nice buzz in the place! Service quick and friendly, love coming here!

Yelp
*Hic* I bet you can't guess where *hic* my *hic* profile picture was taken... And I bet you can't guess why I look so happy... *hic* Per-*hic*-fect for a quick escape from a long crowed day at the market, or better yet, grab a take-away glass for enjoyment on the go!
google avatar

Yelp
Lovely and cosy little place. We tried two glasses of red and mine was much nicer than my friend's. We also had the cheese board, which was perfectly pleasant. So why didn't it get any more stars? Well, it was just a little less cosy than I wanted - the chairs are a bit hard to sit on and the table have legs that make it really hard to get comfortable at. The service was just a little short of warm. What I really hope for in these sorts of place is some time talking about the various wines, a snippet of information about one or two of them and perhaps some banter. What I actually got were the words 'this one' in response to my question on which wine I should choose. So, do try it - but don't go in with very high expectations.
google avatar

Larissa R.

Yelp
I ordered two of the most expensive house wines in their category (one was white and the other, red), and they both tasted bad, bad, bad. Perhaps the wines had gone off because it was the Christmas season and no one was coming in to the shop to order the most expensive wines by the glasses. But that is by no means any excuse for Bedales to serve turned wine. Turned EXPENSIVE wine. Because, I tell you what, £7.50 for a 175mL glass of wine isn't cheap. Blech. Plus, the glasses were soooo small. Surely Bedales should be serving up its wine in nice, large wine glasses, so that patrons can better enjoy its bouquet, no? Yes? Am I being a snob? I would expect this sort of inattention to detail from a Wetherspoons, but not from a rather pretentious wine bar, personally.

Yelp
After a hard day of working on a Saturday, Laura suggested a food and a drink to revive ourselves. What she really meant was wine and nibbles - thank you very much Laura! This is a cute little rustic wine bar with a heap of atmosphere and character. From exposed stone walls to a yummy selection of seasonal nibbles it screams class and culture. Plonked in Borough I was actually grateful to find it wasn't over run with tourist, obviously the selection around here for great eating spots means that the spread themselves out. A bit on the pricey side but great for early evening snacks, maybe with a date or a girlie friend for a catch up - mmmm...I'm cooking up some plans!
google avatar

Yelp
Ventured in after a nice wagamama's with a rude waitress (that's another review in itself!) Bedales is a great place for the wine lovers. Sadly the waitress here was slightly under the weather aswell and didn't really have any alternatives apart from apple juice for my preggers mate! I liked the atmosphere of the place however...i think the dodgy 80's soundtrack had something to do with it. The walls are lined with every style of wine know to man and and bits of info to make you feel like a right connoisseur...i can recommend the third one down! Nice place to pop into if you're in the area.

Yelp
This is a hidden away little gem of a place. Incredible wines, amazing staff who are very knowledgeable. I love London Bridge as an area to eat and drink but this wine bar is now one of my favourites. This is a great date place as its quiet enough to talk.

Yelp
Popped in here early on a Friday (4:00 ish) and hoped to have a snack and a couple of beverages while I waited for my husband to meet me. They were not busy. I asked for a glass of sparkling and the lady behind the counter said "it is cheaper if you take it and go". I said that I had just planned to sit and wait for my husband and then she said "fine, but it'll be more expensive to sit here". What kind of business WANTS you to leave their establishment? All I did was walk in and try to sit at the bar. Better and friendlier wine bars on the same street.
google avatar

Chris O.

Yelp
Great wine, cool vibe, pretty decent food (at least if you avoid the potato wedges) and very convenient for pre/post shopping breaks while at Borough Market. I've come to regard Bedales as an excellent option for meeting up with folks - no matter what their taste or budget. It's a laid back place with economical food and drink options. But if you're keen to splurge, there are plenty of fine wines to choose from. Odds are whenever you want to be there (early Saturday afternoon for example), lots and lots of other people will have a similar "good idea". But, my experience has been that with a bit of patience a place to sit usually opens up soon enough. Also, the wine cellar is brilliant for popping in to grab a bottle to go.

Yelp
This is by far my favourite wine bar in London! Different and classic selections of wine. Gourmet foods sourced from The market and made in house, friendly staff and layer back atmosphere. They do wine workshops and training. They also have a room upstairs for private parties, what to ask more? Oh yes and every first Sunday of the month they have a free life music event with half price wine bottles starting from 5pm! Come explore and share my Bedales love!!! P.S. There are two more Bedales in Leadenhall and Spitalfield markets!
google avatar

Yelp
Nice little pad. Now, I'm not a wine bar fine. But this place endears me. And I think that's the decor. Just simple, plain and unpretentious. Like they have (what looks like) a(n original) cast iron staircase in the corner. And candles dotted around the room. It's big, and it looks like it could be New York. And even though like the wine bars I really despise, THEY HAVE SOME REALLY OLD EXPENSIVE WINES, I'm not made to feel cheap or unwelcome by the staff, when I order two really cheap glasses of red wine. So that works, when I take my girl in, and chat in hushed tones by the window, don't feel like anyone's listening or minding what we talk about, going through silly topics, spent maybe an hour in their over one glass each. And so that was nice.

Yelp
Situated on the edge of Borough market - Bedales is a great little place for a visit for those who love their wine and those who just like visiting great little bars. The ground floor has plenty of seating for those looking to enjoy a tipple from the very large selection of wines they have on offer round the walls of the room. The back has some seating which flows out into Borough market itself, and downstairs is an excellent cellar bar. The whole place has a great atmosphere to it, with lots of interesting characters enjoying their purchases. Staff are very friendly, although somewhat distracted when it get busy. The corkage fee of £8 on each bottle I believe which is a bit over the top in my view. Especially when you consider the dictionary definition of corkage: a fee charged, as in a restaurant, for serving wine or liquor brought in by the patron. Well - didn't we just buy the wine there rather than bring it with us?
google avatar

Qype User (greenm…)

Yelp
Handy place for a drink just away from the bustle of Borough Market. Well designed with an authentic winery feel. Wines by the glass or bottle, and some beers. You can choose any bottle from their shelves with an £8 corkage. There's a lot of seating in the cellar, which can be hired for group tastings. Some great looking charcuterie platters. However the more I looked the range didn't seem that great, so in the end I felt it was really a wine bar rather than a wine merchant with drinks.. unless I missed something and they have another shop as well.

Yelp
When education, wine, and food come together in a charming setting, it's a very good night. I enjoy wine, though I confess that I am not educated. I usually grab a random bottle, or re-visit the same wines over and again, but at Bedales I learned a lot about why I make my choices and why to not base my choices on grape variety alone. In the future, if I am wanting to try a new wine or too, or take an out-of-town guest out for a nice bottle, this is exactly where I will return. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and the pours are what they should be - sized for sipping, not gulping!
google avatar

Qype User (lovely…)

Yelp
It may become apparent, dear reader, once you read further down the page, that we bloody love Bedales. It is for good reason. I was part of a group led down to the converted cellar one night for an evening of wine tasting and appreciation by Wine Master Of The World (this may or may not be his correct title) Arnaud. We were taken carefully and amusingly by the hand through some pretty exciting and unusual wine, entertained by Arnaud's anecdotes of stories both with ("What's the most expensive bottle of wine you've sent back?" "£600") and without wine ("What do you order in a restaurant?" "Beer"). Holed up in the cellar I was amazed at how quickly the time passed - I learned a lot (a lot more than I still remember now - should have taken more notes) and massively enjoyed myself. I'll be bringing people back here time and time again.

Yelp
Until this August (after having visited it every year for 8 years) I would have given this place 5 stars - but an unfortunate experience there when visiting my family in London this summer has, sadly, rendered it a no-go place now. We are so disappointed about this as I'd always looked forward to settling in for a few hours here on my trips back home from New York. Synopsis: as usual, during our meander through Borough Market, we agreed to meet at Bedales for a glass (or several) of prosecco and a quick snack. We have always sat outside as we have young children and try to minimize disturbance, while enjoying an adult beverage at a nice establishment. This time, however, we were treated like utter garbage - quite the opposite to the stellar customer experience we've encountered in the past. We ordered a glass of prosecco each to enjoy on the premises, but instead of being given a glass flute we were given one of the portable plastic flutes - which apparently means that one is not allowed to sit anywhere near the premises, lest you are berated and belittled by a large, bearded bully, which is apparently who they like to hire these days. We were gobsmacked to say the least. Other customers there were embarrassed for us, and were very supportive - they couldn't believe what they were witnessing. As a side note - the lady pouring the drinks outside was lovely, although clearly needs to understand the meaning of what material the flutes are made from and advise customers accordingly. To summarise: go elsewhere if you want to be treated with respect.

Yelp
This is a great little wine bar in the Borough Market. Its decor is on the rustic side, comfortable and spacious, all stone and wood. I was here for a wine tasting, held in the cellar, and a great venue for it. A central table held a fascinating selection of bottles and some tasty tapas (pickled garlic = yum). Our host, Arnaud, was great: knowledgable, funny, and good at showing people that their own opinions and tastes can't be wrong. The majority of their wines are organic and biodynamic. Whether you believe in the efficacy of the latter system or not, they've got some tasty bottles on hand.

Qype User (Amelia…)

Yelp
What a fabulous little wine bar! I was worried that on a Saturday evening it would be crowded and thus unpleasant (I don't like elbowing in to bars to order...), yet it wasn't when I visited, so I had the pleasure of being able to look around myself and chat comfortably. The wine list was interesting and the bar staff extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The gewurztraminer I sampled off the by the glass wine list was as crisp and refreshing as a Granny Smith apple. I can't wait to get back there and sample more... or do a wine tasting. Then I'll eat something, too. And once I've done that, I will probably be able to add another star to my rating.
google avatar

Qype User (freshw…)

Yelp
Bedales is a must when you visit Borough Market. You can escape the hustle and bustle of the Market and enjoy a glass (or 2). The downstairs bit is nice and cosy. Ideal to spend an afternoon enjoying the wine and food. The wines are very good. All around a lovely place to while away the time in a relaxed atmosphere.
google avatar

Suzanne H.

Yelp
OK, I will admit that the service is quality. And if you get a wine there and a food board, they are quite quality as well. and the bar itself has a rustic feel to it. But seriously!! the prices???? For the cost of a glass of wine (which are SUPER small btw) I could buy a whole bottle from the middle shelf at sainsburys. THE MIDDLE SHELF PEOPLE! that's the good stuff. The place is tiny, and it was unnecessarily crowded, and even though it was freezing in there, they obviously had been told to leave the doors open to increase the flow of business. Raul and I did a groupon wine tasting thingy here, and the even itself was really nice. It took place in the cellar below, and they served loads of really nice cheeses and meats to match the 8 glasses of wine they served. I would be HAPPY to recommend THAT to someone, but chances are the groupon offer isn't going to come around again, and you probably missed it, which means your only reading this review b/c you are looking at the place to go as a bar. and I would advise you not to. IF you want some wine and you are in Borough, go to Vinopolis! it's right around the corner! and it's not a total rip off!
google avatar

Charlotte T.

Yelp
love the place! have been on several occasions and its has such a lovely feel in contrast to the empty skeleton of borough market once the vendors have gone off. have had a lovely experience with the wine here - the staff are obviously very knowledgeable and also accommodating on price range, which is not always the case at nicer wine shops. my favorite part, however, was the small bites/tapas-y type food they willingly paired with appropriate wines for us. the whole thing made for several lovely, low-key evenings. would recommend to anyone!
google avatar

Qype User (Gourme…)

Yelp
Bedales is a little gem of a place in the bowels of the Borough market (in their cellar you can feel the vibrations as trains rattle overhead). It offers a brilliant selection of wines from small and unusual wineries. If you are bored of drinking the same old wine or in a wine rut this is the place to come. On a Qype tasting we also got to sample Bedale's charcuterie and cheese boards which were truly brilliant - especially the comte and pickled garlic. Arnaud the Managing Director and Bedales Wine Drinker is a wealth of information and enthusiasm so if you can track him down in the store for advice you should do so.

Qype User (78appl…)

Yelp
Excellent selection of wine, a cute, cosy cellar to drink it in and the best, most delicious tapas platters ever.

Yelp
After reading the reviews I thought I must pop in. I was a little surprised to find the place empty, it was a lunch time but other venues appeared to be busy. £10 for a glass of chilled Beaujolais and a few olives was possibly the reason. No serviettes with the oily olives didn't help my cause. I will try one of their wine tastings as admittedly the wine selection did look quite impressive.

Yelp
Interesting little tapas place. Tapas are a bit pricey. They serve a charcuterie plate with chicken liver mousse and rabbit mousse which was tasty but portions are really small.

Noemi S.

Yelp
Charming little wine bar & wine cellar adjacent to Borough Market, focusing on Spanish wines. Laid back, non-pretentious. Delish meat & cheese platters and nibbles. (Bonus points for the hand-sliced Serrano ham.) Moderate prices. Good for: after work, after market drinks with friends.

Mildred L.

Yelp
Wine selection is nice but the service is terrible. Felt like the staff were going out of their way to make us feel unwelcome. We had had plans to have both drinks and dinner but were so turned off by the service that we left after just one round of drinks. Won't go back again. Plenty of options right next door and nearby with just as nice of a wine selection and much nicer people.

Yelp
What a treat. A proper wine shop that knows it stuff, where you can sit down and try things by the glass and if you've tasted something that's really tickled you pink, buy a bottle to take home with you to enjoy later. It's a wine bar too see, and food to compliment your glass they also have. Cheeses, meats, olives- everything to work those taste buds into a frenzy and all things that are satisfyingly salty making the wine all the more delicious. The Borough Market branch of this three store strong business is the first. Bedales head drinker and managing director Arnaud Compas started selling organic wines in 2001 in the market. Slowly one thing led to another, bonds were made, money was found and Bedales was born. Their philosophy is pure and simple. Drink the wine you enjoy and enjoy the wine you drink. This is not about knowing the chemistry behind it all, it's about the result: the drinking. Know the flavours, excite your taste buds and enthusiasm and the knowledge will come later. With things you won't be able to find elsewhere and things you would never have tasted before (I urge you to try the Fugnano Vernaccia di San Gimignano, but hold onto your seats, you're in for a surprise) Bedales is surely in a realm all of its own. All hail to the gods of wine.

Qype User (loic_a…)

Yelp
I have been to Bedales several times, and never been disappointed by the quality of the food or the atmosphere that is really pleasant!! I highly recommend it to anyone willing to eat well!

Bryan S.

Yelp
The least pretentious wine bar in London. So ok lets be honest this place isnt cheap, but at £25 a bottle its far from the most expensive place ive ever visited and whats different here is the quality. There is nothing boring and obvious on the list, i hadnt even heard of a couple of the wines, but they are incredible and the staff are so knowledgeable. Bedales is a perfect place just to sit and watch and feel like you are a part of something really special.
