The MICHELIN Guide Kuala Lumpur & Penang 2026 Bib Gourmand Selection

"Serving halal Malaysian-Chinese fare, I appreciated how this charming café replaces pork with chicken and seafood without compromising on flavor; what began as a humble street stall in 1992 is now family-run, and the char kway teow is sautéed with minced garlic instead of lard and tossed in a secret soy sauce blend that delivers a spicy-sweet kick, while the hae mee broth brims with seafood umami and the house-made curry paste lends an aromatic heat to the noodles." - The MICHELIN Guide

Tasty Halal Chinese Food! Really enjoyed the food at Bee Hwa Cafe! Everything we ordered was delicious — especially the Char Kway Teow and white curry mee. Great to have halal Chinese options that don’t compromise on flavour. Place has an old-school kopitiam feel, and the staff were friendly. It can get a bit crowded, but the service was quick. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Penang!

Was heading there for the recommended white curry. The boss is super funny and helped order. Never pushed to more expensive or bigger size. Just told us to order the basic is enough. Tried the white curry and the shrimp noodles! Both are very delicious! The best we tried in Penang! Many ingredients and decent portions! Definitely want to try again next time!

Food was surprisingly good, especially the char kuey teow and hokkien mee. Ordering can be done by scanning the QR Code on the table. The coffee is good too!

Nice little shop. Tried the Nonya laksa, white curry mee, kay butter toast and half boil egg. The food is good 👍🏼 and very well priced. For tourist, its a good place to try local penang food in a traditional "kopitiam" style shop.

We had a great experience at Bee Hwa Café! The owner is very enthusiastic and welcoming, which makes the whole visit even more enjoyable. We tried several dishes: Char Koay Teow – slightly different since it’s halal-certified (without pork lard), but still very flavorful. White Curry Mee – unique and tasty, with a flavor that felt very local and different from what we usually eat. Nyonya Laksa – tangy and appetizing, another special taste you don’t get everywhere. Kaya Toast – crispy and delicious. We also enjoyed the Horkasai and the white coffee, both highly recommended! Overall, this is a wonderful spot to enjoy authentic Penang flavors with a warm local touch.

Probably my favourite lunch in Malaysia so far. Absolutely delicious, sticky, flat-rice noodles with prawn, fish balls and crab sticks and a tiny hint of spice. Could probably eat this for lunch every day for the rest of my life. It was called Penang Char Koay Teow and cost 8 ringgit (+2 for a large which I regret not doing). Very friendly staff and good service also. Wish I could come back here for dinner but it closes at 3.

This was our last breakfast before returning home. The owner was very friendly and suggested dishes and drinks for us to try. We got the char koay teow and a noodle soup. Both dishes were delicious and I highly recommend anyone to try them. I can’t remember the names of the drinks but they’re unique only to the restaurant. Plenty of seating. Prices were very cheap. Good portions.

Excellent food at a reasonable price. The food came quickly and didn't have an overpowering taste of seafood (a must for me since I don't like it). The white curry was flavourful and had a decent portion. I left bring satisfied but not overly full (in a good way). Atmosphere it's pretty typical of Penang. Not glamorous but fine. There's no AC but it had lots of fans so that made it manageable.
