Timeless charm taichow place, my first time here, tried their famous curry prawns, lovely, i like it, fresh praws, curry mix not overwhelming. Another must try, their caramalized soy fried fish, look unappetising as hell but taste is pretty good. Also ordered their taugeh with prawns, pretty standard, tofu with leek is on point and their belacan chicken is not bad, weel fried, chicken tender and moist and marination not overwhelming. Got there at 1130am just as when they open their doors. Price is fair.

It's Michelin rated for a few years now. My first time coming here was maybe 15 years ago. Can't be sure. I remembered eating the curried prawns last time so it must be good. Today is the second time I came since someone in my group wanted to eat here. 1) We ordered the curried prawns. It's definitely large and the curry is pretty nice. There's nothing much to say about the curry. It's just nice curry. Not amazing enough to be 5 starred. It still gets 4 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐ from me. 2) Bean sprouts are not impressive. It's not ipoh bean sprouts which is fat and short. It feel limp but the sauce makes it good enough to eat. If they use ipoh bean sprouts it would be incredible. I'll give 4 stars ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ just for the sauce. The sprouts gets a 3 ⭐⭐⭐ 3) Seaweed soup with fish ball and bak cho. I always love seaweed soup. Wish there's more seaweed in it. The fish ball and ground meat ball taste good. Soup itself is pleasant to drink. This soup get 4 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐ from me. 4) Belacan chicken is not really my favorite. I only had 1 piece and I didn't even finished it. Maybe the belacan was not enough. That must be it. Chicken meat is tender but taste wise but enough belacan kick 🦶 🤗 I'll have to give this a 3 star ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ rating but that's just me. You might like it. 5) Fried fish in black sauce. I will give this 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐ ⭐ ⭐. Fish is fresh and the black sauce taste yummy. I saw many reviewers showing this dish so I had to order this. I was not disappointed. I actually enjoyed the taste. Anyone coming here should order this dish. Overall this place gets 4 stars from me ⭐⭐⭐⭐👍

The place has good heritage and some standout dishes, but overall our visit was just average. The house‑special prawn curry and caramel‑soy fish have reputation, yet our versions lacked punch. Service was quick and efficient, which is a plus. A visit worth making if you’re curious, but don’t expect perfection.

Great traditional old school home cooking but without air conditioning. 5 free car parks in front of the restaurant with plenty more on the adjoining street. Must eat place if anyone is hungry in Butterworth. Best to come early to avoid the long queues on peak hours and weekends

Each plate feels thoughtfully prepared, with balanced seasoning and a comforting taste that reflects traditional Malaysian-Chinese cooking. Portions are fair, and the quality remains consistent despite the crowd. Service: Service is fast, coordinated, and no-nonsense in the best way. Even during the busy lunch period, the staff managed orders efficiently. Their familiarity with regulars and their attention to detail contribute to a smooth dining experience. Environment: The kopitiam-style environment is modest and classic—clean, brightly lit, and lively. You won’t find modern décor here, but the atmosphere reflects the charm of a neighbourhood eatery that focuses on good food rather than aesthetics. Value for Money: Considering the Michelin recognition and consistent food quality, the pricing remains reasonable. It offers excellent value for a place acknowledged by Michelin while still maintaining a humble, accessible identity. Suitability: Vegetarian options: Limited; depends on the menu of the day. Dietary restrictions: Requests can be accommodated, but options are basic. Kid friendliness: Casual and family-friendly. Wheelchair accessibility: Generally manageable with some assistance due to typical kopitiam layout. It’s a great place for anyone wanting authentic flavours served with consistency and heart. A solid choice for a satisfying and unpretentious meal.

Gotta order fast or else the waiting time will be quite long. We waited 50 minutes for 5 dishes as we were behind 5 tables despite reaching very early. The belacan fried chicken has no belacan flavour. The chicken however, is juicy and cooked nicely. The signature black sauce fish is very good, the sauce is something I’ve never really tasted before but I enjoyed it’s slightly sweet and aromatic flavour that isn’t too overwhelming as I could still taste the fish itself. The black sauce pork is seasoned nicely and goes well with rice Tau geh and onion fried egg is pretty standard, as per any other restaurant. I’d say the dishes are on the pricier side for the serving size but it is not too big of an issue. It is worth a visit but personally I wouldn’t come again.

Jan 2026: reasonably priced food that is served fast. They have a process in place that works well as the queue gets long. We arrived before the shop opened for business and there was a queue already formed.
