Before Coffee

Nothing getting better with a croissant and latte to start a day. I read the reviews for this cafe and wonder if it is worth to give it a try. I ordered a latte, almond croissant and an egg tart to share with my friend. Oh my! The egg tart was soft and creamy not hard at all. The croissant was fluffy and with bold almond flavor. We enjoyed them till the last bite. We decided to have a second visit a day after. I ordered the strawberry match latte this time, it was fabulous! It blended matcha’s bitterness ( not strong ) with a hint of strawberry, this combination refreshed my taste buds and made my day well. Of course, egg tart for this trip again.😊 The cafe only has 2 benches for you to wait for your order, most people come for take out.

My absolute favorite coffee shop ever! I found Before Coffee by accident. A friend of mine was running late and I decided to grab a coffee. Before Coffee was the closest shop near the G train where I was waiting. The rest is history. Can’t get enough of their matcha drinks. Their matcha croissant and cookies & cream panna cotta are delicious, too! The staff have always been so friendly and welcoming. I really enjoy the vibes there and try to visit at least once a week especially when I’m feeling down.

Discovered this place by accident, and will definitely be back soon! The iced sesame latte was great, and I look forward to trying an egg tart and the Toki latte next time! Nice clean interior and friendly barista as well!

This is the best Brooklyn Portuguese egg tart outside of Xin Fa in sunset park! The lattes I get here are my favorite in Williamsburg as well. It’s more suited for grab and go than working, but there’s a lovely space to relax in. The owner is a really kind and cool guy! Highly highly recommend as one of my favorite coffee shops in the area.

my favorite coffee shop in nyc!! the BEST lattes, most amazing egg tarts and scones, cutest merch. i'm lucky enough to live across the street but about to move, and Before Coffee is one of the things i'll miss most about this area. Gary has truly created a little haven with this spot, and he and Alessandra are absolute angels, seriously so friendly :)

Such a cute coffee shop in Brooklyn! The drinks were creamy and not too sweet. The black sesame latte was my favorite. The pastries were delicious and they make everything in house.

Very good vibes and excellent service but the coffee was not it at all. I got a large double shot americano with oat milk and their house made toki syrup but it just tasted like milk. They were very kind and remade me the same but I asked for a smaller size thinking I’d actually taste the espresso and toki but it still just tasted like milk. No flavor or espresso taste at all. Also there's no wifi which is fine just didn’t realize beforehand

I love getting iced lattes from here. The service and the coffee are great. I also got my boyfriend one of their T-Shirts and it’s one of his favorite shirts now. Great quality and fit.

Before Coffee is hands down the best way to start your day. Gary, the owner, is not only an incredible barista but genuinely one of the chillest, most attentive people you'll meet. He takes the time to craft each cup with care, and you can really taste the passion in every pour. It's clear he puts his heart into the coffee, which is hands down the best around. On top of that, Gary makes all the food in-house, and it shows--everything is made with such skill and attention to detail. Whether you're grabbing a pastry, or anything off the menu, you're in for a treat. The vibe of the place is relaxed and welcoming, and it's easy to see why it's a local favorite. If you want great coffee and a spot where you're treated like family, Before Coffee is the place to be. Highly recommend!

Lovely neighborhood coffee spot with the friendliest owners! They offer your normal coffee options but also some unique specialty drinks. I always attempt to try a new one because they are usually pretty good. My recent fixation is the Black Sesame Latte. It is not caffeinated, so I like to add a shot of espresso and sub with almond milk. Not to miss are their pastries, specifically their matcha croissant as well as almond croissant! Matcha croissant is only offered on weekends.

I stopped in here recently along a walk and got a black sesame latte, although I didn't realize when I ordered it that it wouldn't have espresso in it. It mainly tasted like a glass of milk with a hint of sesame to me, which was a bit disappointing.

Cute coffee shop that replaced Mountain Province. The space is totally different. It feels more open but less seating. Not for you to work on your laptop. The focus is the coffee and less so of the food. The person/owner seemed nice behind the counter. I got the black sesame latte, which does not have espresso. I wish it had heavier black sesame flavor or came with a short of espresso. It tasted very mild for me. I tried my sister's coffee and that was much more satisfying.

Ordered a coffee for hubby and a black sesame latte for myself. Hubby shouted his coffee, I threw out the latte: it was grainy and just not too appetizing. Location was a bit weird to find, it's not exactly at the corner. More like tucked into a small frontage of the side of the building. Hard to get to if you're not walking because parking is atrocious.

November 2023: New coffeeshop in South Williamsburg, a few blocks from the G/M/J train and buses. I had the black sesame latte with oat, and it was a nice pick-me-up on a cold day in Brooklyn. Solid menu with your basic espresso and tea drinks and some specialty drinks leaning to the Asian flavor profile like matcha, black sesame and ginger, which is always a delight in this neck of the woods. They use high quality beans and the space is presentable: marble and granite tables and black leather couches. Service was friendly and efficient. I came later in the afternoon before closing so the pastries were lacking (was looking for that matcha croissant), but overall I think the place is a nice shop to pass by if in the area. As a serial coffee shop explorer, my only real gripe was that I couldn't "work" due to lack of seating/table and wifi. It is not a "working" coffeeshop, but that is my preference. I would say it is more of a social or sit-down coffeeshop with a friend or take out. There is only one coffee table by the window and a wooden bench outside to spend time in the vicinity. I also think their highlighted pasty item is their egg tart which I have yet to try. Accepts cash, card and Applepay. Indoor/outdoor seating and takeout available. No wifi or outlets. No bathroom, small coffeeshop. Great natural lighting and clean minimalist interior. Drink up!

Tiny little coffee shop with maybe 6 seats max. I am so happy they opened up. While I do have a nespresso machine at home. Sometimes you just need to treat yourself. The owners are the nicest and always so friendly when I walk in. Grabbing a coffee is always quick and easy and I'm out the door within a few minutes. It's a very clean and open space without being sterile. I have yet to try any of the pastries but they always smell so good. The only downside side is they open at 7:30 am.

A welcome addition to the area. I love the sesame milk latte with an added shot. I'm addicted. I crave it when I'm away from nyc! Scones and egg tarts are also to die for. Big fan of the sun dried tomato scone, while my fiancé can't get enough of the blueberry lemon scone. For each scone, they have unique butters to go with it. Love the attention to detail. As for the workers there, they're friendly, efficient, and kind. Always a smile on their face and they remember their customers. Will continue to be a regular customer!

Brand new coffee shop that just opened in the area. They have a great selection of coffee and other drinks as well as pastries. Great ambiance and friendly staff. The prices can't be beat either.

A welcome addition to the neighborhood, replacing what used to be Mountain Provence. A lot of the pastries are made in house and the owner is nice to chat with. Seating is a bit limited, but I usually go there for grab and go. All in all, a great local spot for me. Make sure to grab the loyalty card!

Awesome coffee shop. You can tell these people care about this place. The coffee & tea is always spot on. It's clear they make everything with love. Every weekend I have to cross my fingers that they have any of their everything croissants left because they're so amazing. Dog friendly too! No BS here, just good stuff made by good people.

Excellent coffee and pastries. I usually don't drink coffee or espressos but the Cappuccino that Gary made was amazing. I highly recommend anyone in the neighborhood to check it out. I will definitely be coming back!

Amazing drinks!! I HIGHLY recommend the lavender matcha latte. High quality matcha and the lavender gives it a nice floral note. I came with my fiancé who prefers tea over coffee and the owner recommended the blueberry hibiscus tea. It was DELICIOUS and refreshing. Very nice atmosphere. Immaculate vibes. Will be coming again to try their coffee

New coffee shop with house-made flavors in the neighborhood! We tried the caramel syrup which was balanced and on the sweeter side. Gary was very friendly and we are excited to make this spot a staple. Need to come back to try the matcha croissant.

A great spot for an afternoon pick me up. I got the iced strawberry matcha latte with your choice of milk. There's a good selection of housemade pastries such as scones and croissants to pair perfectly with your drink. The owner is very friendly and even has a jar of dog treats for the neighborhood dogs. There are a couple of seating options inside and a bench outside. I would definitely recommend stopping by for a little treat!

My vet brought this in to work as a "please don't leave me here on a major holiday" bribe. I refused to cut mine in half with a popsicle stick in the typical office kowtowing. And honestly that was the best decision for my psyche (not my arteries because the uber butteriness is working its way into them now). Definitely get your hands on a box of anything.

Had to leave a review because the egg tart here is the best egg tart I've ever had. Also I'm not a huge coffee fanatic, but Gary, the owner, recommended a blueberry hibiscus tea and it was so delicious. Not too sweet and a great balance between sweet and tart. Really glad I was able to find this local coffee shop!

What a cute spot ! Small and intimate. Standard cafe menu + some specials. I got the Black Sesame latte (no coffee) and it was spectacular. Slightly nutty and sweet. Very nourishing. I'm in Chinese Medicine school and I've been craving a warm sesame drink so thanks Gary! The cortado I got was also fire. Espresso is strong and slightly bitter. The baked goods they had (scones, croissants etc.) looked extra good. I didn't get any since I am celiac but I did ask about any being gluten free which Gary answered he is in the works of many them. Definitely will return soon. Thanks Gary!

Really great chai! Actually spicy and not too hot. I also got the blueberry lemon scone, which comes with whipped butter. It was not dry at all and really yummy! The staff is also very warm and friendly!
