The Grub Street Food Agenda for September

"I consider Beijing’s First Lamb Shabu Shabu’s Flushing outpost one of the best spots for hot pot in New York—its heady, gamey lamb broth with an island of lamb in the pot is distinctive—and the chain has opened a second location in the East Village (218 E. 14th St.), perfect for chrysanthemum greens, egg‑crêpe dumplings, many meats, and sides like clay‑oven rolls." - Chris Crowley

Tried this traditional Beijing-style hotpot spot recently and absolutely loved it! Unlike the usual spicy hotpot places, this one focuses on a light, clear broth that really lets the natural flavors of the meat, tofu, veggies, and noodles shine. It felt so comforting, especially in this cold weather. Perfect for long meals and good conversation. The ambiance is beautiful too, with a traditional Chinese vibe that adds to the whole experience. I really appreciated how relaxing and cozy it felt. Definitely a go-to for a chill winter dinner with friends or family. Can’t wait to go back!

We stopped by on a sunny day and noticed their unique decor - filled with trees. We didn't realize their advertisement sign didn't apply for weekends until after we sat down. Their spicy lamb was on the strong side, but was nice minus the tough bones. I enjoyed the circle of meat around the hot pot as it was quite unique. There was also black jelly available. The dried tofu, shrimp paste, and fish balls were quite overpriced and is fairly standard. Service was on the slower side as our water cups usually remained empty

My family and I stopped in after a long wait at the restaurant next door, and we’re so glad we did. We decided to try BeiJing Hot Pot, and it quickly became a new favorite. The food was delicious and reasonably priced, the staff were attentive and kind, and the atmosphere was very inviting. One of the best things about this spot is that it isn’t all-you-can-eat, so you never feel rushed and can enjoy your meal at a comfortable pace. You can order as much as you like without breaking the bank 🏦. I even joined their membership program, and I’m happy I did—I can definitely see myself coming back often if they keep up this level of quality.

Step into Beijing Hot Pot on Prince Street and be transported straight to the capital of China. This spot beautifully blends traditional Beijing style decor with sleek modern touches creating a cozy yet stylish atmosphere. The staffs are warm, welcoming, and attentive making you feel right at home the moment you walk in. Their authentic copper pots filled with rich, flavorful broths serves as the perfect base for their fresh and high quality ingredients. Each dip into the bubbling pot brings bold flavors and satisfying bites. Beijing Hot Pot is a true authentic experience that leaves you wanting for more.

Honestly I prefer Sichuan style hotpot (I also have a bias towards $value hotpot), but this place was really good. Especially the spicy bone broth meat (but that's not really beijing style). The meat quality seemed quite high.

We found a huge bug in our hotpot broth on the mushroom during our visit. We were told that it was due to the mushroom being “fresh” but shouldn’t ingredients be washed before serving?? While the servers did apologize, the incident left us feeling uncomfortable and disappointed. Cleanliness and food safety are basic expectations, and this experience fell short. The apology was appreciated, but more could have been done to make things right. In addition, there were two birds that flew into the restaurant.. did not make this experience any better. Unfortunately, we left feeling unsatisfied and would not return.

Good Hot pot place. The atmosphere was nice and the service was great. The staffs really helped us a lot and were attentive. Food was good with varieties on the menu. I’ve been to places with more and less but Beijing was in-between (more meat options but less veggie options). Location is easy to get to, lot of cafes and things to do around. Worth a visit if near the area! Recommend!
