I'm not going to pretend like I'm any expert on empanadas, but I can say that East Cobb has a severe lack of diversity when it comes to dining options, so I have to say that a place like Belen de la Cruz is a tremendously welcome addition to an area that could definitely break away from the numerous Mexican, Italian and pizza joints in just about every shopping center.
This place is located in the Piedmont Crossing shopping center, which is at the intersection of GA-120 Roswell Rd (Marietta side) and East Piedmont Ave. The easy landmarks to watch for are a Publix and a Dunkin Donuts at the corner of the intersection. There's lots of parking and it's generally an easy plaza to get in and out of.
BDLC took over Righteous Que's old location when they moved into the neighboring Mexican restaurant when they vacated, but to those who have no idea what I'm talking about, it's a cozy space with maybe enough space for like 8-12 diners in a non-pandemic condition. The decor is tastefully pleasant and I feel like a lot of care went into it, which I hope is the general feeling of how they prepare their food.
I ordered online to pick up since they opened up during the pandemic and I typically try to minimize how much time I spend in any enclosed space, and it's pretty easy to do through Clover.
As I said, I'm no expert on empanadas, but BLDC's menu of empanadas all are about $3~ a pop for something about the size of a Hot Pocket, but actually good and with less chance of dietary genocide. Between my wife and I, we ended up trying around six different empanadas, and we had zero complaints about any of them. If I had to pick, cheese beef is my favorite, followed closely by bacon, but there are still others I have yet to try.
If I were feeling extra, I could probably put away four in a sitting, but three is more like my happy place, which breaks down to roughly a $10 per meal price point, which for the quality of something like this is pretty worth it.
Overall, a fantastic addition to East Cobb, and I hope this place can stick around for the long haul, and not close up shop just because the numbers forecast unfavorably. But that's on customers to support a small business like this one, and I know that I will be back for more, and recommend them to anyone else who's tired of all the same stuff otherwise in the area.
