I had brunch at Belly of the Wolf on September 14, 2005. I had Dos Tacos and Higgins Bacon. The tacos had pan seared chicken thigh, pinto and black bean hash, scrambled eggs, cotija crumble, spicy pico de gallo, cilantro lime aioli, all on pan seared flour tortillas. The flavor of the chicken was great. Now I know why true chefs use chicken thigh in their dishes! The pico brought some nice heat to the dish! The pan seared flour tortillas were crispy and hot upon arrival. The dish was spectacular! I will be back to eat this dish soon. You must try Dos Tacos to truly appreciate how tasty this dish is! Higgins Bacon was smoky and had a great flavor. Try it with your tacos!

Our favorite restaurant! Every dish is prepared with creativity and complexity. Service is outstanding and wine list is amazing. Andrew the chef is also a wine expert and can recommend a great bottle or glass to accompany your dish! Be prepared for a great evening!

We live in the neighborhood and have been here many times and the quality of the food is off the charts. Highly recommended if you're in the area and the drinks also are off the charts. 😀

Visited in Feb '25. Great food balancing local tastes with creative cooking, and good drinks. The minimal sides were amazing. No hot beverages served and the place lacked a clear identity and consistency. Found it as Shymik's on Yelp. Michelin level potential but needs focus. The Good: Delightful server (and baby), attentive service, nice space (good bones), great wine list, excellent and varied menu. The recommended hen was outstanding, especially the remarkable carrot and parsnip puree sides. Pricing allows for both affordable and splurge-worthy options. The Not So Good: No coffee. Salad dressing was too strong. Slightly small portions of delicious food. One overpriced, tiny dessert. Most offerings justified the pricing, unlike other uninspired elevated casual spots in Evansville, which cost more than comparable cities. The nice space felt soulless, needing softening and an improved entrance. Hearing staff reprimands and casual profanity was off-putting.

The service was attentive, knowledgeable, and helpful. The atmosphere was great. Relatively quiet in the dining room. The tables, chairs, and small plates were unique and memorable. From the charred sourdough bread with creative peach butter, mustard, and ricotta sauces (appetizer) to the beautifully presented smashburger and uneventful pommes frites, there was much to be desired. First impressions are impactful but not eternal. Those considering a visit should follow through. Here's to hoping for a good overall experience.

I have visited three times now, and everything I have ordered has been fantastic. It's next-level quality. The food is fresh, sometimes local, and far superior to what you typically find at most places. It's family-owned, and the staff is extremely friendly. It can take a bit of time when they are busy, so prepare for that aspect, and you won't be disappointed.
