The 26 Best Things Made in Michigan’s Cities | Eater

"Promising some of the best Tex-Mex food in Grand Rapids, Beltline Bar has a very distinct claim to fame: It’s said that the wet burrito was first created here in 1966. A wet burrito is not your typical handheld variety. Instead, an oversized ground beef burrito is covered with red chile sauce and melted cheese; a knife and fork are a must. While the wet burrito is their biggest draw, Beltline also feature tacos, fajitas, margaritas, and more. Michigan may border Canada, but Beltline offers a taste of the Southern border up north." - Vox Creative

Google
Classic!! The deluxe wet burrito was fantastic. Mango margarita was tasty. And the service was good. The wait wasn’t long for 2 people, a little long for larger groups. The flavors were just like I remembered from long ago. I was a little sad they were out of the fried ice cream though.

This is the first time trying a wet burrito from Beltline Bar. This is the Old Mission wet burrito. I would say it would be a personal mission to actually finish it all... in one sitting. It's HUGE and packed full of goodness. It has tender steak, like actual steak chunks, guacamole, sour cream, green chile sauce, rice and beans, absolutely smothered in queso blanco sauce topped with tomatoes and cilantro. I would say the queso is some of the best I've had. The restaurant was very busy during lunch, however, my order was delivered much quicker than I expected. Highly recommended!

Google
Ordered delivery and it was horrible. Burrito had nothing but meat in it. Was cold. Called and notified the manager and she didn't even offer to remake it. Quick way to blow $50. I don't recommend. You're better off going to QuickTime burrito.

Google
1.5 hours to get our food. Poor management, they put a nice new waitress on her first night and gave her 6 or more tables without help or support. Do not eat at the bar, we left after 1.5 hours and got our food to go. We had reservations but were told they were slammed and gave our table away in the dinning room. We got the bar high table and watched our nice waitress get overwhelmed. A manager told us they did not know we wanted food which was untrue. We tried many times to order food, but we’re unable. Really bad management and we watched the bar tender yell at customers that were leaving. I guess other guests night were also a disaster. It’s sad, I love wet burritos but will not be back.

Google
Famous for their wet burritos. I had an amazing gluten free, chicken wet burrito. My waitress was top notch and displayed excellent customer service. The building design is really awesome to see with the Mexican influence. The menu is full of so many choices, you have to be a repeat customer to fully enjoy. The draft beer selection is stellar and if you're a fan of margaritas you've got to try one from this restaurant, 21+ of course! This restaurant is family friendly and has something for everyone on the menu. Oh, and don't forget to try the house chips and salsa and a dessert to go with your meal. Your appetite will thank you!

Google
I have been enjoying the Beltline Bar since the 1980's. Casual atmosphere. Great drink options. My chicken fajitas come to me sizzling and my husband ALWAYS get the famous shredded beef and bean burrito. 😋 And the complimentary tortilla chips and salsa (mild and hot) are wonderful.

Google
Extremely expensive for the quality of food that you get! My party got chips and queso, a burrito And three tacos and it was $70. None of the meat had any flavor, portion size was good the flavor of everything was basically nothing. Nothing even tasted seasoned. Our server was great, chips and queso were delish, but the actual entrées were mediocre at best.

Google
I met up with an old friend for lunch here last month. I hadn't been here in decades! It hasn't changed much and has the same, cool vibe I remember. The food is fabulous. We filled up so much on the appetizers (And still had leftovers to take home!) that I only ordered one taco. It was was the shredded beef and it was outstanding! Our waitress was wonderful. Really great experience!

Yelp
I've been dining at beltline bar more frequently recently and their wet burritos have really been hitting the spot. They have great $10-$12 lunch special options. I'm typically here on break from work so if I'm dining in somewhere it needs to be fairly quick and it's always efficient when I'm here!

Yelp
Daily specials . Good food . Fast service. Favorite Mexican food for us . Long time local business, lots of regulars .

Yelp
We visited the beltline bar and did not have a great experience with our waitress. Waitress and service aside, the food was pretty decent. Wish they had other food dish items. I'd say this was just an average Mexican place with a big focus on their burritos, so if that's what you're coming for, you probably won't be disappointed.

Yelp
For lunch, my dad took me to this no-frills Tex Mex spot. It's a large restaurant with friendly service and a big menu. Famous for their wet burritos, Beltline Bar has good chips and salsa. To drink, I got their frozen margarita and sangria. It was refreshing!

Yelp
Marissa great job great service kind and very professional. great customer service

Yelp
This place is a exactly the way it was in the 90's. It's not what i'd call authentic Mexican, more Americanized and is very filling. All of this was about $25.00, you get plenty of chips for a couple of people which is average price these days. They do put an automatic 3% onto your bill for market fluctuations, (pure profit for the owners) not sure how I feel about that as a person who runs a food service establishment but I don't think that would prevent me from returning.

Ray L.

Yelp
Marissa is amazing!! keep her behind the bar forever ! drinks are always good and she is always happy

Lacey S.

Yelp
We have never been in, however we ordered to go a couple of times and the original Wet burrito is so good!! I have went back for 4ths!

Carole O.

Yelp
The famous burrito is great. We've gone for years and they still have the same great taste. The waitress named Harmony was great. Be sure to ask for Harmony when you go there.

Yelp
Marissa is great, fun, friendly, and provides great customer service...bonus is the food and drinks are always great!!
google avatar

Yelp
Get your drinks out before your appetizer is finished. Get rid of the 3% a Covid surcharge. The pandemic is long over.

Lynelle V.

Yelp
Marissa is the best, ALWAYS remembers my beverage and order! We love to come and sit and have her serve us!

Kathryn L.

Yelp
Wait staff excellent along with food. It had been a good thirty years since I had eaten at The Beltline bar and it was like I had never left. Carry on Beltline. You are great.

Valerie W.

Yelp
Food is always good, the restaurant is definitely a fun place to be . Wish I could go every day. It is also very nicely decorated, love it ...
google avatar

Lisa W.

Yelp
I had a wonderful experience here because my server Marissa went above and beyond to make sure we had a great date night

Emma C.

Yelp
By far my favorite mexican place in Grand Rapids. The staff here are incredibly nice and really care about the customers and food. Everything we've had on the menu has been wonderful.

Hey T.

Yelp
I reached out as you requested in your somewhat generic response and never heard back from anyone. If you really cared, it would be obvious that you valued my feedback or my repeat business (which will not be happening.)
google avatar

Lauren R.

Yelp
What can I say...had a delicious taco salad and Margarita flight. The only better than the food, was the delightful bartender, Heather. Great atmosphere, would recommend!
google avatar

Melanie S.

Yelp
My experience was absolutely amazing. Our waitress, Jada, was very attentive. She made sure our drinks were always full, all of our food came out hot and fresh. The setting was very welcoming and definitely made the food more enjoyable.

Sumita B.

Yelp
Lifelong GR resident and this place has been in business for a long time. This place is known for their wet burrito. Chips and salsa are not complimentary. This place serves Tex-Mex. Portion sizes are large. Service was great for us the night we went. Get the margarita flight!

Oliviya R.

Yelp
Marissa is the best bartender I've ever encountered. She's personable and fast, can handle a full bar and still provide excellent service. Will return just for her

Jorge D.

Yelp
Belt line bar gives a cozy and relaxed environment. I enjoy the staff and always look forward to seeing my preferred bartender Marissa.

Pierce A.

Yelp
The wet burritos here are the best without a doubt. The portions are great for the cost. The ambiance of the place is always pleasant and more than that the people there are great. I frequent a few times a month and always try to get the best server in the place, Mary, to wait our table. She's Got a great sense of humor, remembers our names, checks often in case we need anything, works hard to ensure you're having a good experience, and most of all she's an awesome person who is nothing but authentic. Big shoutout to Mary for being part of the reason we always come back.

Alan D.

Yelp
Fast service, and excellent food. Marissa and the rest of the staff were friendly and attentive.

Nicole T.

Yelp
We stopped in for lunch, Were greeted right away. friendly folks. Great waitress. We got chips and salsa. the chips were good , the salsa was ok, Lacking heat. even the "hot" selection. We got the Nachos, chicken. Fried beef tacos, and Beef chimichanga. lemonade and water. Total bill with 20% tip 61 bucks. For three people at lunch is a bit pricey. the food was good but not memorable. the service was great. D

Deb B.

Yelp
worse manager ever! I don't think our group will ever go again. she refused to sit us all together.
google avatar

Yelp
The place was busy when we went and the parking lot was full. There was a 25 minute wait until we got seated. The staff was very friendly getting us a seat and seating us. That's where things went a bit sideways. The waitress was friendly but might have been new. She appeared to be struggling getting things done. Our drinks were never brought in a timely manner and it seemed to take forever to get our drinks we had ordered 20 minutes prior. We then get the news that the frozen Margarita flights we ordered are no longer available. So about 30 minutes after sitting, we got waters and now no drinks. Luckily we placed our food order when we placed our drink order. When the food arrived, it was good. The salad that was ordered was colorful was visually appealing. The shrimp on the salad was seasoned well and cooked perfectly. The salad was less than stellar. The lettuce has bits that appeared to be on the verge of badness. The chicken enchilada and beef burrito plate was much better than the salad, which might have been my error in getting a salad at a Mexican restaurant. The chicken enchilada was moist and flavorful. The burrito was even better. The beans had plenty of cheese and were not dry. I would definitely get this plate again. The salad not so much. This might be a last for the bar but I can't say for sure.

Yelp
A hopping, local watering hole, the Beltline Bar serves a lot of Tex-Mex-like cuisine. Wildly popular, packed even mid-week, this food meets the needs of the populace with a bang! I say "Tex-Mex-like" to be clear about the flavor profile you'll find here. Unlike the offerings I've tasted across Mexico, in Austin TX, and up and down California, this is sauced more with enchilada spices (ancho chili powder, tomatos, cumin, garlic, onion, and brown sugar) then I've typically encountered. Not bad, just different. We started through the very extensive menu while chowing down on the guacamole & chips. Slightly less salty than I was expecting, with thin chips (unlike house-made from tortillas) none was left by tree time we ordered. Lexy knew her menu, proffered good suggestions, and we were off! The Big & Famous wet burrito, with carnitas instead of beef, was satisfying, cheesy, and filling. Ditto with the regular with ground beef. Not many beans, which may be how you like it. The deep-fried ice cream was a great way to finish off the meal, the cinnamon chips a wonderful textural contrast to the chocolate and caramel! Also very good things were said about the margaritas!

Yelp
My wife is from Grand Rapids and she grew up going to the Beltline Bar. A visit to GR is not complete without stoping here for dinner. Food and service are always great.

Bob D.

Yelp
Food was great. Mary was our server and she was fantastic. Burritos were delicious as usual.
google avatar

Mike E.

Yelp
This used to be my wife's favorite place many years ago when we first got together. She always requested we go there ..... so today we went for nostalgia sake . I will say the bar, tables chairs etc are still the same ... the food though not anywhere near what we remember. The chips used to be served hot with seasoned salt, now they are out of a Bag and not great quality. The hot salsa was ok and the regular way too sweet . The famous wet burrito just doesn't stack up to so many others in west Michigan like the Tip a Few in Grand Haven . It was a walk back in time entering and the margarita for 5 bucks at happy hour was tasty , our server was excellent but the rest just meh......

Yelp
Being in Grand Rapids MI which was not really part of a work travel plan, my great realtor and gaming friend takes me to a unique TexMex place that does their burrito WET, something I would never find in my burrito state of TX. Amazing experience at this place that invented this specialty in the 60's. Ambience and service were great. Now I have an eats place I could call uniquely MI when I visit the area.

Becca G.

Yelp
Came in for a quick lunch. Fun atmosphere. Bartender (Heather?) was super friendly and chatty. Food was great. Will be back soon.

Yelp
Visiting Grand Rapids for the weekend, this was my husband's choice, a staple in the neighborhood, full of memories from when he would visit his grandma in Grand Rapids, but apparently it is not as good as he remembers. Atmosphere is wonderful, festive and fun, felt like I was in Chi Chi's. Service was excellent, even on Cinco De Mayo weekend, service was attentive and fast. Margarita flight on the rocks was amazing, food was just ok. I ordered the Taco Salad, and my husband ordered the Beltline combo. Meat didn't have a whole lot of flavor, and the rice was bland/dry. We also thought the chips/salsa were included at the table to find a charge on the bill after, no biggie, but most Mexican restaurants include them. Chips were good, salsa again lacked some flavor.
google avatar

Sarah F.

Yelp
I want so badly to give this place more stars! It has a lot of nostalgia for me by its certainly not the same as it used to be. What happened to the homemade chips? The food was fine but not very flavorful. Waitstaff may have been new, which is fine but again not a fantastic experience. Staff was pretty friendly. There's a lot of competition in GR with such a rich Latinx community, we will probably try some place new next time. Sorry Beltline.

Ian C.

Yelp
i had a very good time yesterday , amazing food and very nice staff . I want to give a thanks to marissa

Kimberly E.

Yelp
The food was excellent as always; a couple of us had the Famous, a couple had the chicken chimi. We had great service from Kay; the order was 100% correct, hot, and prompt. She was very friendly, too. We'll be back soon!
google avatar

Abigail C.

Yelp
Kayla is fantastic! Came in from out of town to visit my sister and we brought a big group. She couldn't have been nicer, brought our drinks quickly, and everything was accurate. The trifecta! Queso and seven layer dip were awesome. A throwback to my childhood coming here for special occasions.
google avatar

Jason L.

Yelp
My wife and I came here a few weeks back and had a pretty good experience. We came in on a Saturday for dinner and although it was busy, we were seated within 5-10 minutes. I wish I could remember our server's name but she was pretty good at her job. Took our drink orders, made recommendations on things (appetizers, for instance), and set expectations on wait times (IE: the bartender was backed up so drinks would take a little bit). We ordered some chips and salsa, along with a couple wet burritos. Food was good, as expected, albeit maybe a little smaller than I remember. The one thing I would mention is the 3% surcharge at the bottom of the check - if you're not paying attention, you'll miss it. I asked our server, who supposedly went and asked the manager. I guess it's a 3% flat on all checks since they claim they didn't raise prices. No biggie, but you should inform people in advance of something like that. It feels like an arbitrary money grab vs. having to understand at the end of the transaction. Maybe put it on your menus or something. Regardless, we paid the bill and asked for change for a larger bill to leave a cash tip. I'd come back - the atmosphere is decent, and the food and service were both good. Thanks for providing an enjoyable experience.

Mitch A.

Yelp
Yikes, the food is so bad! I ordered 3 enchiladas and tried to finish one but didn't want the other 2 because they tasted so bad. The presentation looked like a child prepared it. See the disaster of a picture. I would not recommend this restaurant as there are a lot of other better options in the area. The bartender was "making" margaritas from a mix from a bucket. She was nice and professional, though!
