The Seattle Location of Vegan Deli Ben and Esther’s Is Closing - Eater Seattle

"The Capitol Hill vegan spot Ben and Esther’s says the cost of labor and rent are too high." - Harry Cheadle

Ben & Esther's Vegan Delicatessen - Review - Capitol Hill - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Veganizing a deli is no small feat, and Ben & Esther’s has done it. The counter-service spot with very limited seating serves classics completely void of meat and/or dairy, be it a reuben on rye or matzoh ball soup. The bagels themselves are great to begin with, and some complicated dupes totally work, like bacon breakfast sandwiches with gooey cheese understudies and a fake egg patty that’s just as springy as the real thing. Some things, however, crash and burn, like liquid smoke-soaked carrot lox that’s just as limp as it is unconvincing. Stick with bagels and schmear or “egg” sandwiches for best results—especially with a black and white cookie on the side." - Aimee Rizzo

Italian Restaurant Salt District Opens on the Seattle Waterfront - Eater Seattle

"Ben and Esther’s Deli, a vegan Jewish deli from Portland, is opening its first Seattle location in September. Known for its bagels and vegan dishes like whitefish made from hearts of palm and roasted carrot “lox,” this expansion aims to make vegan delis more common in the U.S." - Jade Yamazaki Stewart

I was looking forward since summer, when they still were closed to come back to Seattle from Germany and to try this place! I’ve never seen a ALL VEGAN Jewish deli!! Taste: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Ambiance: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Price: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Customer service: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I love eating at this place but unfortunately if you don’t go in the morning it’s more like you don’t get what you want for lunch. Once they sold out (which is a good thing for them 😅) you might not get your favorite bagel or dessert that day. I love the bagels there are so delicious just make sure, if you make changes to your order you also have those changes applied. All there sandwiches, bagels, get cut into two half es at the end, which I don’t like, I like to eat my bagel as one 😅 I had few times the problem they didn’t. The jammers are also really delicious probably my favorite dessert but always sold out quick. The prices are ok. Not cheap but also not too overpriced, typical Seattle priced. But all in all definitely a place I recommend!!

Surprising find when I was looking for something healthy to eat. Four employees behind the counter and nary a welcome. My order was taken fast but as I don’t eat mushrooms, I had to do without onions as they're cooked together. The aioli was almost invisible and the vegan meat a little dry. The coffee with almond milk was perfect. Amp up the flavor! Healthy does not mean flavors need to be muted. All I tasted was the rye bread, unfortunately. Great bright space with tables in a loft area as well. Will visit and try their bagels next.

My first experience with this shop was great. Everything was nice and clean. The staff was great and knew the ins and outs of the job. Such a great experience that I had to go check out another location to see if it lived up to the expectations and consistency throughout! I had the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese on a Plain Bagel and it was so great to go into a shop I can support and know that I can have anything on the menu.

Vegan Lox, Brisket, Whitefish Salad, Tuna...real deli and real Vegan! As a swing eater who is inspired by Vegan Food, but still eats fish and dairy, I am a good evaluator of Vegan offerings. Ben and Esther's is top tier vegan deli food. The lox has the essence of real cured salmon, but is not going to satisfy one who was raised in NY deli fare. The bagels were not NY bagels. They should be improved. The Hamantash was dry like it was in the case for a day or two. All reality stated, I will return and try their sandwiches. I enjoyed myself and love the vibrance of Ben and Esther's.

Variety of hot and cold sandwiches, huge portions. Tried Benny's Brisket and Philly cheesesteak (very delicious, served as 2 lunches!), friendly staff, seating available indoor and outdoor.

I’m new to the SEA area and as soon as anyone finds out I’m vegan this is the first place they tell me to try - I understand why! The Rueben and turkey, bacon, ranch sandwiches were very tasty and quite hearty but the real star of the show is the rye bread they’re served on. I think also a lot of what gives this place its charm and worth for sharing with others is the atmosphere/concept itself - it’s just cool AF to have an ALL vegan deli! Will definitely be back to try other stuff!

We got the lox, steak and egg, and matzah ball soup The lox was Smokey and the cream cheese was creamy and tart. The matzah balls were big and seasoned well, they were not soggy and had a great texture. Would highly recommend this place, the staff is friendly and the food is great!

First, I have to say, I love their Portland location because they have some of the best bagels on the West Coast. I was so happy to see that they had opened a location up here. Unfortunately, the product did not live up to the standards set by the aforementioned location. To put it simply, the bagels here are not good even by Seattle standards. They are WAY too bready, not nearly chewy enough, and lack all of the malt flavor you find in a good bagel. Basically they are a bagel shaped piece of bread rather than a good bagel. Their coffee is the one thing saving them from two stars, because it's actually very good.
