Benji's Bagel & Coffee House - Review - West Nashville - Nashville - The Infatuation

"If your “rise and shine” looks more like “caffeinate and hope for the best,” we suggest getting that caffeine at Benji’s and letting their aptly titled breakfast sandwich do the rest of the work for you. Choose between bacon or a quarter-pound sausage patty to go with your egg (we say sausage), and then appreciate how everything gets slathered in a healthy amount of chili crunch cream cheese. It’s spicy, it’s rich, and it’s on a perfectly chewy bagel that Benji’s does so well." - Ann Walczak

The Hottest New Restaurants in Nashville, May 2024

"Owned by husband and wife team, Becca Bendaj and Niko Bendaj, Benji’s is supplying West Nashville with scratch-made bagels, schmears, and pastries seven days a week. Pulling culinary flavors from Niko’s Albanian and Becca’s Israeli background, the bagels range from familiar to inventive — za’atar, cheddar jalapeño, and cinnamon sugar bagels accompany tahini and chili crunch schmears. Just add a cup of freshly brewed Lavazza coffee to wash it all down." - Jackie Gutierrez-Jones, Eater Staff

We stopped by Benji’s Bagel and Coffee House yesterday and greatly enjoyed our experience! Their bagels are top-notch and their iced lattes were amazing! We ordered The New Yorker bagel and The Rise and Shine bagel. We were so impressed by how fresh and flavorful both were. We loved our food so much that we even ordered some of their feta and olive smear to take home! It’s delicious as well! We visited on a weekday morning. It was busy, not overly crowded, and our order came out in a reasonable amount of time. I highly recommend Benji’s Bagel and Coffee House, and definitely will be dining here again soon!

First time today at Benji’s! We loooved the food, it was sensational. The decor/vibe is so cute and we loved the floral arrangements (AC works amazing, great for us on a hot day but also good for others who may want a jacket). I am giving a 4 star only because the staff were a bit off-putting, we were hoping for a more welcoming greeting cause we did preface it was our first time and apologized for being a bit out of touch with the ordering process. We also came cause of a friend who highly rated a special latte that upon asking found out it is off the menu now and was for a limited time, so for anyone like us maybe check before you come! There wasn’t anyone in line behind us but the service lacked warmth or approachability so it wasn’t what we expected. Again the food was heavenly and it was timely as well as accurate with modifications we made, and given the high reviews and being recommended by friends, this place has been vetted! We just chalked it up to it being a Monday and we came around noon so it was nearing the end of day. Prices were great and the food left us very full!

Drove here from East Nashville because we had to try for ourselves. It was so worth it. I do recommend getting there earlier so they don’t sell out. We got the rise & shine on the za-atar bagel and the New Yorker on poppy seed bagel. But here’s a hack for you: we got a Salt Bagel with the Nutella chocolate chip schmear. The sweet balancing with the salty was by far my favorite of all the ones we ate. Excited to hear that they are getting a second location in East Nashville soon!

Google
Wish we could do half stars because it wasn’t terrible but not the best. I want to say a 3.5 Had the bagel with the chili shmear with sausage and egg (can’t recall the name) which was ok and shared my husbands steak and eggs. The pastrami is good in that one. The size of the sandwich was huge and prepare to get messy. I think I would’ve enjoyed it more with just a regular toasted bagel and a complimentary shmear. Still worth a try

Google
Good bagels for a decent price. The jalapeno cheddar bagel was enjoyable - could have a bit more jalapeno for my preference but it was still good. I get mine very simple, just bacon, and their quality and quantity of bacon didn't disappoint. Our plain bagel with just cream cheese was loaded - we actually scraped some of it off. It's nice that they stay open until 3 - other places that close earlier are running out if bagels around lunch time, but on our visit they still had what we wanted. It was incredibly busy when we visited with a fairly significant wait time after we ordered.

Google
I don’t visit Nashville often, but this breakfast spot is a true gem! Their menu is packed with so many delicious options, it’s hard to choose. The homemade bagels are incredibly fresh, and the variety of cream cheese flavors is unbeatable. Their coffee is also amazing. Can’t wait to come back!

Google
Incredible bagel shop with great sandwiches and fresh flavors. The rise and shine is a go to. Bagels have amazing texture. I wouldn’t go here for the coffee

Google
Was recommended this place for their bagels since I'm in town from NY and was told this was the spot. When I arrived, it definitely seemed it. The line was down their hallway inside. Ordered two breakfast sandwiches (1 sausage and 1 bacon), a specialty sandwich, lavender lemonade, and 2 cinnamon toast lattes (1 with cinnamon crunch cold foam 1 without). Bagels are nothing like NY and the cheese on jalepno cheddar bagel was so hard I had to remove it. The sausage was different, not sure if it's made in house but it was nothing like I ever had and absolutely didn't like it. The bacon breakfast sandwich on an everything bagel and lavender lemonade were very good. The coffees were also not so good. My recommendation would be to get rid of Lavazza and use a better bean. Plenty of roasters in the area. There is plenty of parking and a friendly staff. Subpar food and coffee, unfortunately, won't make me return.

Yelp
It has been a weekly routine for me to try new bagels in and around the city of Nashville and I have found the winner! They by far have the best bagel that have tried in the multitude of spots I have been! Will definitely be my go to location from here on out!

Yelp
Walking into Benji's Bagels' shiny spot in Nashville felt like discovering a hidden breakfast gem. Usually, I swing by Benji's Bagels after the morning rush, around nine or ten o'clock, so I can't vouch for the hectic early hours. But let me tell you, whenever I've been, the service has been top-notch--friendly, speedy, and downright delightful. So even if you're not an early bird, you can still count on a fantastic experience whenever you decide to pop in. Seriously, the variety of bagels and Schmear options blew me away! Now, I'll admit, the prices might be a tad higher than other joints, but let me tell you, it's worth every penny. I'd gladly fork over a couple of extra bucks for the quality you get here--way better than settling for a frozen Panera bagel any day! Plus, the friendly staff and easy parking just sealed the deal for me. Trust me, you won't regret splurging a bit for a breakfast experience this good!

Yelp
Benji's has been a staple in my breakfast rotation for a couple weeks now. There is parking around back. They can get a bit of a line especially on the weekends, but it moves at a moderate pace. Very cute, café style. I almost always take it to go, but there is a good amount of indoor seating as well as a small area people usually sit and eat out front. Only advice would be to be prepared for certain bagels to not be available towards that last hour of the day! My go to is the rise and shine with bacon on a plain or everything bagel, the chili crunch cream cheese is my favorite thing ever and my new obsession. Sometimes I get a chai tea with milk and also delicious. Check em out.

Yelp
Okay I have FINALLY been able to take 40 minutes of my morning and get in line for the famous Benji's Bagel. This bagel shop is amazing their breakfast sandwiches are delicious and their bagels are soo fluffy and full of flavor. They also have multiple shmears that are calling my name. In the bright side it has been open for about 4 month close to 5? not totally sure but they STILL have a line out the door some mornings. On the downside, if you have somewhere to be, ensure you have enough time to stand in line and wait for your order. Note they do have coffee and pastries and the coffee was delicious but the banana walnut muffin that I ordered was not my fav, it had a huge chunk of banana, was not a fan and it was a little dry. For bagels 10/10, service was 10/10, wait time (5/10)! I will be back to try out other bagel flavors.

Yelp
Wow, this place doesn't disappoint whatsoever. However, if you're in a rush, the line gets pretty long. The food is so damn amazing and is well worth the hype it gets. I am so glad to have come here.

Yelp
Pictured: The top half of a Rosemary bagel toasted with plain vegan cream cheese topped with an egg fried in chili garlic crunch sauce from trader joes. This is the best bagel I have ever had! The picture doesn't do it justice. Environment: Had to park on the street. There are a handful of tables inside to eat or work. All the indoor tables were taken when I arrived. They do have some outdoor tables with umbrellas as well. There was a line of people ordering, but it moved quickly. Service: They were kind and quick Value: the bagels are a little pricey between $2 and $3.50 per bagel, but to me it is worth it for a quality bagel. If I'm going to go out to spend money on a bagel, this is where I want to do it. I will definitely be returning. Looking forward to trying the coffee next time.

Yelp
The lively semi-industrial of this building on Robertson has been made cozy with pretty tile, simple artwork, and a fridge display full of some of the cream cheeses Benji's has to offer. They have a pretty standard coffee menu--drip, espresso drink, and a Greek style frappe--and a wide array of bagels and schmears. I arrived at the beginning of the morning rush, and once the staff were settled at their stations, service was quick and kind. The sesame bagel I had was excellent and definitely made me want to try more of their offerings. On my New Yorker, I would've preferred red onion over yellow/white, but the overall effect was still really tasty. The lemon caper cream cheese was flavorful without overwhelming the bagel or the lox. The iced latte I had was just okay; since this seems to be a bagel place first and foremost, I wouldn't go expecting the coffee of a lifetime, but when I'm back for my next bagel I think I'll try their brown sugar syrup in a drink. Parking is plentiful if a little confusing. You have to go past the building on Robertson, turn right into the lot, and then walk through two buildings until you see their sign on the sidewalk.

Yelp
Super cute bagel shop in west nashville, open just early enough for my post night shift brekkie! Weekends are crowded but the line goes quickly and they're pretty efficient about getting orders out! I got the everything bagel with chili crunch cc as well as a za'tar bagel with spicy cucumber dill cc. Both are outstanding and the bagels have great seasoning and chew! I'll definitely be back for some sandwiches!

Yelp
Let's start with the highlights: Service: the staff was incredibly kind and friendly explaining all the menu options to each customer with a smile. Because they went above and beyond in explaining the menu the line moved so slowly. It took about 3-5 minutes per customer to order. Food: the insides of the bagels are bar-none. The sun dried tomato cream cheese was delicious, the arugula, and prosciutto combined for a light and tasty aromatic experience. My wife ate the rise and shine and the insides of the bagel were delicious as well. Areas to improve: bagels were cold, they should come toasted, bagels were very thick and almost dry. The experience in the line was frustrating as not enough staff was working the kitchen (seemed like 3-4 people total and 1 person FOH). The line moved at a snails pace, and the food was the same speed. I think as Benjis place as more time to iron out the kinks and hire more staff, the quality and speed will improve. Best part: parking was easy, coffee was one of the best we had in Nashville and the ambiance was uplifting, bright and happy.

Yelp
Stopped in to check things out after seeing this place featured on the evening news. Plenty of parking behind the building. We ordered a couple of bagels to go. One sesame seed and one plain. The only sweet option was a mocha cream cheese. There were plenty of savory flavors of cream cheese. We got the mocha flavor. It was whipped nice and fluffy and had a nice subtle coffee flavor. The bagels were toasted. They had a good chewy crust and dense middle. They were very large bagels. Service was quick and friendly. The space was bright and inviting.

Yelp
Bagles are great, no complaints! I got the steak and eggs and it was AMAZING! It seemed to be just a daily special but it was great. We also made our own sandwich with avocado, egg, and cheese. We also got some bagels to go and they were also good. Free parking in the back which is always awesome. But a bit of a drive if u don't live in the neighborhood. There was a massive line but quick turnaround on food once you order.

Yelp
Had to stop by and try this spot. I was happy with my bagel, unfortunately came on a busy Saturday so many favors were sold out by noon. The coffee was delicious and I really enjoyed it. Even though they were busy, the workers kept the line moving and we found a place to sit and eat. I'll definitely be back to try other bagel flavors and a cinnamon roll
google avatar

Yelp
Truly the best bagel in nashville!! The rise and shine with chili crunch cream cheese is 10/10 flavor. Their cream cheese and butter bar offerings are extensive, I really like the mocha flavor you're looking for a sweet option. They also have a great coffee bar with house made syrups and pastries made in house daily too. Every week they are continuing to offer specials and new menu options. The owners are so kind and friendly, along with other staff I have interacted with. Go early on the weekends to avoid a 30ish min wait in line to order- It gets extremely busy around 9:30-10am. They even offer a rewards program to get discounts on future orders. Love this new addition to the neighborhood!

Yelp
Hmmm...where should I start? I got there around 10 am. They were pretty busy but I didn't wait long to get my food. They were plenty of tables to sit but they were dirty. I had to clean the table myself. I ordered the New Yorker on everything bagel and it was delicious. The only downside was my bagel was hard like a rock around the edges. On the plus side, the lemon caper and crunchy chili schmears were top notch. Coffee was great.
google avatar

Lauren W.

Yelp
A great addition to the neighborhood! I got a latte and a plain bagel with the spicy cucumber dill cream cheese. The latte was good! The bagel was nice and the cream cheese was amazing. I can't wait to come back and try other bagel and cream cheese flavors. I came in right when they opened on a weekday (7:30 currently) and it wasn't busy yet, but while I was sitting and eating it started to get busier. I will definitely come back!
google avatar

Yelp
Went shortly after Benji's opened for the first time. There was quite a line but it moved quickly. Nice calm ambiance in the inside with some calming green tile as the focal point. The staff were happy and chill. They were so busy but no one seemed stressed. The menu had a lot of great options. Parking is behind the building (free). They did run out of some products before we got to order, but I chose a jalapeño cheddar bagel with bacon, egg and cheese and their chili schmear. Oh my goodness it was delicious!!! Real bacon. Real egg. Delicious schmear. Made to order. Presented with a smile. So glad to have this within walking distance of my home!
google avatar

Yelp
Another bagel shop popping up across Nashville with more of the same results. I personally found Benji's to be incredibly mediocre and over priced. I tried the everything bagel and while heavily encrusted in toppings which was appreciated, the bagel ate extremely dense. It was missing the fluffy texture and bit of chew you get from a top tier bagel. As well, I was astounded that I ended up paying more for the cream cheese on my bagel than the actual bagel itself. While there isn't a perfect bagel spot in Nashville I will be venturing elsewhere in future
google avatar

Kennedy K.

Yelp
Benji's is easily one of my favorite bagel places in Nashville. The service is great! The coffee is amazing. And the homemade bagels and cream cheese options are even better! I recommend the berry cream cheese. So so yummy!
google avatar

Austin A.

Yelp
First time trying this spot and now I see why everyone loves it! Will there be a line? Yes, but it goes fast, once you order it's even faster and it is worth it. It's affordable - my BEC on everything was $7.75 and so filling. The bagels are fresh and fluffy with a great crust. Exactly how they should be. The coffee was good too. Ambiance was great too! Great music playing and everyone was super friendly!
google avatar

Jamie V.

Yelp
I love bagels and when I moved here 23 years ago I couldn't believe that there were hardly any bagel stores. Now that is not the case and there are some great ones to choose from. This is really not one of them unless you are looking for cream cheese. There are very few breakfast sandwiches and the bagels themselves were meh. If you like Proper Bagel or Star Bagel I wouldn't really waste your time waiting in the line at Benji's. They got our order wrong and I tried to chat with someone who I believe was the owner and hardly could strike up a conversation.
google avatar

Emily A.

Yelp
First came on a Saturday morning and it was PACKED so we had to leave and decided to go back on a Wednesday afternoon. There was no line but still several people inside eating. The bagels came out quick and service was friendly. The bagels themselves are soooo good. The bread is cooked perfectly - light but still dense enough and chewy. I recommend the bagel sandwiches with meat, egg and cheese over the cinnamon bagel and cream cheese but both were incredible. This place is worth the hype!

Robert W.

Yelp
A new favorite. Has become my go-to Saturday breakfast. Great bagels, great options, and fast service.
google avatar

Dick G.

Yelp
$$$$$ bagels I earn more than most but $12-$13 for a bagel sandwich is insanity Nashville. Bruegger's has better bagels for 35% less, service is shit so depends on your motivation!
google avatar

Daniel S.

Yelp
Been on the hunt for my favorite breakfast spot in the city. Got the sesame bagel with the spicy dill cucumber spread and I've gone back three times to get it again. Great coffee selection too.
google avatar

Eugene S.

Yelp
Great hand-rolled, freshly baked bagels and hot sandwiches! I also really appreciate the Lavazza coffee they serve, as it's my favorite for espressos. There's plenty of parking in the back for a quick in-and-out experience, and the staff is super helpful. I'll definitely be a regular.
google avatar

Anna G.

Yelp
I don't have any pictures because I eat my bagel too fast... just can't wait. I absolutely love this place! The staff are incredibly kind (the owners have worked the register every time I've been there), it is well worth the wait (there can be lines on the weekends). They just opened and I loooove everything I've tried. Their rise and shine bfast sandwich is so good, the cinnamon bagel, the mocha cream cheese. I just love it. I literally won't be going to another bagel spot in Nashville ever again. Charlotte park really needed them!

Peyton Y.

Yelp
Moved to west Nashville last year! Was sad we didn't have as many options as the Nations direct area, but can now say I am so happy!! To have this place in walking distance and for the food to actually be great is a miracle! Had a salt bagel with the feta and olive shmear and couldn't have been happier! This is a must try at the very least, i hope to enjoy it again soon, but now for some of the cons & wants! 1. Space is limited, and bc their food is so good, the line can take up to an hour depending on when you go. 2. They WILL sell out. It would be a bummer to wait forever and still not get what you want, so keep that in mind. 3. Id love their to be a pickup option to avoid some of this! Their space is cute and clean, but small for how packed they get. Also would give people a chance to try the bagels if they can't be there at opening! Overall, this is a true 5 star rating, the "cons" are just things that aren't great and others should know before coming!
google avatar

Arthur B.

Yelp
Awesome bagel shop in Charlotte Park. Great place to get a bagel with a variety of spreads or awesome bagel sandwiches! Coffee is great too! Vibe is fun and alive!
google avatar

Luca C.

Yelp
Bagels were amazing, service was good and overall environment is great! 10/10 spot and would highly recommend

Francis N.

Yelp
New bagel shop and open at 6:30 for early types Pleasant counter person and I had Risen High egg cheese bacon on everything bagel and was very good and big enough to split or save. Coffee was good. Young neighborhood. Big parking lot in back.
google avatar

Levi K.

Yelp
The best bagels I have had outside of NYC, just the right density and size. Artfully crafted flavours of both bagels and smear, I had a Jalapeño cheddar bagel and lemon caper smear, topped with locks and tomatoes, called the "New Yorker". Also available is a carefully curated selection of teas, and esspresso drinks. A drink case with cold sparkling beverages as well. Easy to park and get to, with plenty of seating. Using my own personal restaurant ratings scale which is written as a mixed fraction of quality compared to the reference "Bob Evans" restaurant chain. Benji's bagels is a solid 14 out of 7 Bob Evans'es.
google avatar

Vivian K.

Yelp
This place is my new obsession. I have gone through their menu bit by bit. There isn't anything I didn't like!!! Just got to add this place rocks from their bagels to their schmeres. There scratch baked goods are always a must try. We are so lucky this place exists. Thank you To the Bendaj's for creating the perfect place to come hang out eat and socialize. Every week is a new experience. Check out their new blueberry bagels oh my god amazing. The service is also quite expectable.
google avatar

Kirsten P.

Yelp
Local here. Been into Benji's 3 times at this point and cannot recommend it enough! I've tried a plain bagel w/chili cream cheese, a sesame bagel with mixed berry, and a cinnamon bagel w/ mixed berry...all absolutely delicious. The dough is light and doesn't make you feel super weighed down after having one. And the flavors are so rich and delicious. The few times I've been in, there have been quite a few other people there but the line moves long and there are generally a few tables available. We're big bagel people in my house and this place is at the top of the list!
google avatar

Kathleen C.

Yelp
I am so excited to have a bagel place walking distance from my house! The bagels are delicious. Crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. The Rise and Shine sandwich with bacon is my new favorites. The staff are extremely friendly. Weekends can get very busy, the line moves quickly. HIghly recommend!
google avatar

Anna John H.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! The rise and shine bagel sandwich was unbelievably good. The chili crunch cream cheese was so tasty. I also tried an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese and the schmear was very good. Only adjustment I would've made is requesting the bagel be toasted. Excited to come back!

Benjamin H.

Yelp
Best bagel I've had in Nashville. The place is always busy and now I know why. Only wish I have is to add call ahead orders.

Hannah B.

Yelp
We needed a bagel and coffee shop like this around Robertson. So delicious! The service was quick and efficient.

Diane D.

Yelp
Cute. Nice breakfast menu. Coffee is okay. The problem is they have twice gotten our orders wrong. Asked for no cheese, and when we get home, we found lots of cheese on the sandwich. Could not eat it at all. First time we ordered bagels with just butter. They were soaked in gross amounts of butter. Thought we would give the place another try. Asked for VERY light butter that time. When we got home, there was another gross amount of butter on the bagel. Couldn't eat it.

Elaine L.

Yelp
Expensive but worth it.Will be an anchor of this upcoming neighborhood . Give it a try

Christy M.

Yelp
I'm still amazed at how great these bagels are! They are so fresh with the perfect amount of fluff to them, but can we also talk about the coffee? So good, and you can add coffee flavors to it which are made in house as well (iced vanilla is my go-to) just add milk and your set. Definitely my new favorite bagel spot!

Janel B.

Yelp
Delicious bagel shop with real NY bagels (chewy, but not too dense) and fresh schmears. Best bagels I've had in Nashville and very friendly service. They also have coffee drinks and quite a few tables.

David H.

Yelp
The perfect bagel. The Rise and Shine is unbelievably good. Big sausage patties and perfectly cooked eggs.

L P.

Yelp
Excellent bagels. Long lines so best to get there right before the open. Also very decent coffee and espresso drinks.
