"Depending on your geographical inclinations, this bodega that sells Mexican food on Ave B and 3rd isn’t technically on the LES, but it deserves to be on anybody’s radar in the neighborhood because of their tremendous tortas and tamales. I recently stopped in and opted for a chicken cutlet cemita, which comes on a sturdy seeded roll with crispy chicken, avocado, chipotle mayo, and tons of stringy Oaxacan cheese. I walk by this place every Sunday when I drop off my compost at the Tompkins Square Park farmer’s market, and now that I know about the excellent Mexican dishes here, I can already tell a plate of tacos or a torta are going to become one more thing I look forward to every weekend." - carlo mantuano

Inside this bodega is an outstanding, affordable, authentic, Mexican spot. Great burrito, Birra Taco’s, quesadillas steak, al pastor. All delicious and fresh - just opened. Worth trying. Don’t let the outside fool you. Very good take out as well!

Honestly, i’m reluctant to write this because I don’t want to wait in line, but the food here is great!! First up, my partner got pork tacos, he said they were slamming, great flavor, meat was juicy and crispy in all the right places. I got a vegetarian burrito, nice mix of sautéed veggies, with rice and beans and all the little extras you need. Best of all, the fresh fried chips with a did-not-disappoint order of guac. On top of that they were friendly too. Def will be my go to spot in the neighborhood for tasty and affordable Mexican.

Ben's Deli delivers an unforgettable Mexican dining experience where fresh ingredients take center stage. With reasonable prices and a commitment to avoiding processed fare, this hidden gem offers authentic flavors that surpass expectations. From handmade tortillas to succulent tacos and delightful desserts, every bite is a testament to their dedication to quality. A culinary fiesta that won't break the bank, Ben's Deli is a must-visit for Mexican food enthusiasts in Manhattan.

The chef offered to cook me something just for me. It was great. I really like when small companies can flourish in this city. Ask the chef to make you something special and he'll ask you a few questions and make you something great.

Google
Ordered chicken flautas and they were great (I think they call them tacos doradas). Had to wait for the chef to come back and cook them, but well worth the wait. They came w/sour cream, cheese, lettuce, radishes, guacamole and tomato and 4 containers of salsa verde, pico de gallo, sour cream, and spicy sour cream. Unfortunately it seems to be difficult to order over the phone so they need to improve that as I wanted to order again but nobody picked up....

Google
The deli is nice. That is not the problem. The problem is the chef making the Mexican food. I went in there and saw him wearing no gloves and then put his finger in his mouth and started handling food. Like I really want covid from him... The health dept should investigate him.

Google
Was recommended by a person that works at the health center. Authentic Mexican food inside a bodega. You would not think it's good, but it is. Quick bite to eat on lunch break

Yelp
"Newish deli - Crisps and Tacos Galore"! Wow! Never seen a bigger chip collection. From Pringles to Deep River, every size and flavor in such a small deli in NYC. Also an extensive menu of fresh cooked foods. Usually stuff like hot sandwiches and Philly cheesesteaks but also tacos! Good addition to the neighborhood

Mike W.

Yelp
Authentic nyc style real kosher deli . Everything is excellent , ask for Jerry as he's the best served there

Dianna S.

Yelp
Excellent food, but way over priced. Delicious pastrami on rye, but they actually charge for mustard! Still a great sandwich. The chicken matzoh ball soup is another favorite. Again, you pay extra for more than one matzoh ball.

Yelp
Delicious food, fast friendly service. Just moved out of East village and this is one of the places I'll miss the most

Yelp
Tacos were really well made and wonderful. Lots of meat. Good presentation and fast service. I'll definitely be back to try their other items.

Yelp
IIGHT SO BOOM! People, people, people. Please listen to me. So my mom, a fellow foodie, follows this Chef named Chef Jeff on IG. Chef Jeff shouted out Chef Lioness once,my mom saw, so she followed her too. She then discovers, that Chef Lionness is the new chef on the grill at this deli every Tuesday-Saturday. So my mama checked it out, raved about it, and now it was time for me to pull up. Listen here folks. Regular day, regular night, drunken day, drunken night this food is BOMB. FRESHLY PREPARED, 100% AUTHENTIC. Hunty. Baby. Chile. Please. So previously my parents have had her fried fish, fried chicken and ginger fried rice. She sold out of fish because yea, its like that. So I ordered The Lioness Parm and ginger fried rice with grilled shrimp. My brother also had a Lioness Parm with curry fried rice and fried shrimp. My mom had a grilled cheese with shrimp, peppers and onions and my dad had fried chicken over ginger fried rice. Yea. It's like that. She also has jerk chicken fried rice and regular vegetable fried rice. The Lioness Parm is her take on a chicken Parm but BETTER because of her homemade sauce. Tastegasm forreal. The cheese was perfectly melted, chicken seasoned to perfection, LAWD. The rice was so flavorful! WHAT! Like the ginger wasn't overpowering, the amount of soy sauce and seasoning was PERFECT! Even the curry wasn't too spicy just simply flavorful. AND, she's generous with the amount of shrimp. Y'all, I promise you. This deli is UNMATCHED. What I've described is just her specialties (amongst many others such as lemon pepper, jerk, and honey chipotle wings, shrimp po boy's, fried rices like CMON PEOPLE!) in addition to standard deli sandwiches, standard deli breakfast, chopped cheese's, burgers all the snacks and beverages in the back. Probably the best NYC deli I've ever seen. And I've been to a lot. A lot. But this is unmatched. Make sure you check her out on IG to see what she's cooking up. IG @lionesscuisine. Show her this review, tell her I sent you, enjoy your eats, support small business, and God bless America!

Yelp
This place is a gem. One of the best ground beef nachos I ever tried is here. It is loaded and the portions are amazing. I've also tried their burritos and although more heavy on the rice, still huge and delicious. I like that they make the food to order so some wait is so worth it. I always ask them for extra guacamole and crema. Good service and kind staff here. I will come back!

Jerryan Nicole R.

Yelp
Ali is an amazing person. Great service. So welcoming, kind, and nice. Will be coming back.

Yelp
Honestly some of the best tacos in the east village - if not the #1. An absolute hidden gem. Delicious, authentic, affordable. HIGHLY recommend :)

Peter D.

Yelp
The guy in the back made me a nice, big smoked turkey sandwich on a hero with lettuce, tomato and yellow mustard. Unfortunately, I had ordered an entirely different* sandwich. But it wasn't half bad, and it was only $6. _________ *I'm sorry, I lied. I did in fact ask for lettuce. So it was not entirely different. Please forgive me.

Jaedon R.

Yelp
Amazing prices, really friendly service, a lot of variety with food, beverage and snacks. Highly recommend

Tejas S.

Yelp
Second best tacos I've had in Manhattan. 3 for $10 is a steal, and the people at the shop are some of the coolest folks. You get the bodega culture with taqueria dishes. Next time I'm around, I'll make a point to stop again.

Yelp
The best of the last , delis are dropping like flys , but bens has stood the test of time I've been going there since they opened ! I'm 65 and still going there, the food is a 1 - service is impeccable , Helen Is the sweetest hostess ever , I love the ambiance, needless to say food is soooo good , hope it's around till I'm old, I enjoy it so much , bens your doing a great service to the community , may all of the staff always be well , and hope you don't disappear ! It's brings me back to my Bronx child hood, habers deli on Astor avenue in the Bronx , fond memories from the 1960s with my mom , what a great tradition you've carried on! Love you guys always , thank you

Yelp
It was the worst corned beef lean sandwich. The meat was very dry as if was in a streamer. The rye bread was a few days old. It seemed as is the others foods in our group said it not fresh like it sat for a few days.

Jimmy J.

Yelp
I've noticed half of the reviews here are for another Ben's Deli since they do not sell soup nor meatballs and isn't a restaurant! And those reviews tend to be overly negative. This place sells excellent halal food for a very low price ($5.99 for rice, veggies of your choice and chicken/lamb) along with deli sandwiches and is your typical bodega. Also it's open 24/hrs everyday they NEVER CLOSE!

Mike H.

Yelp
This deli allows smokers/riff raff to hangout on benches in front and doesn't require patrons to wear masks. Not to mention, taco makers have masks uncovering their nose every time I've been in while making food. Witnessed worker or patron drinking beer by the beer cooler. Owner ALWAYS smoking around premises or in van out front. It's unfortunate because counter guys are very friendly and good people. Just don't enforce a clean environment inside or outside. Also, tacos are excellent! Just wish place was more conscious of cleanliness/germs/mask wearing. Get it together Ben!

Josh K.

Yelp
Friendly service and great deli/hot food. If this place stocked Cherry Coke Zero it would be almost perfect. Their bagels with cream cheese have a plentiful shmear. The coffee is tasty and the service is friendly. It can't be beaten in the neighbourhood for price or service.

Ed K.

Yelp
All, I wanted to correct this. I reviewed the wrong restaurant. I wanted to review Ben's deli midtown NY. Apologies to the owner.

Christine F.

Yelp
Ben's is open 24 hours and serve hot food. If there's anything they can do for you, they WILL. It's a 24 hour deli giving the basics you want want and need. Nothing that will redefine your experience on planet earth except for the people. Which is the most value of all. There's a little of everything and hot food here; perfect. Thanks Ben's!!

Brian A.

Yelp
Eh. Gefilte fish is from jar, not homemade. Yet charge 7.99 for one small piece. Meatballs are rocks. Much better in town. The chicken fricasee is good though. Tell them skip the meatballs with it.

Eileen G.

Yelp
I live in the neighborhood, and I go to this deli all the time. They always have a good selection of fresh produce, which can be hard to find other than at a grocery store. I can always pick up onions, potatoes, fresh greens for dinner, etc. The prices here are good too--they make fresh, tasty sandwiches at the deli. AND! They make the best coffee in the neighborhood. They always take an extra minute to froth your milk too, which is a really nice touch. All in all, a really great small local business that you can feel good about supporting!

Zen O.

Yelp
I like this place! It's open 24 hours, and has a great selection of fresh produce. One of my favorite things there are these generous $2.50 clamshells of field greens. You can pick up one of those and a couple other random vegetables, and have a great, cheap, fresh salad. The other day when I was there, there were really great fresh apricots, peaches, and kiwi. It's run by people of Middle Eastern origin, so there are tons of other interesting things on the shelves, like garbanzo beans, etc. Plus, there are all the bodega staples - sugar, caffiene, salt, all kinds of over-processed food. There are times when you need that, too, after all. :)

Lia K.

Yelp
Never order delivery here. It took them over 2 hours for a soup and half a sandwich. I called at the 2 hour mark then was told it would take another 45 minutes. Wow...

Merry M.

Yelp
Really slow service. Ordered a hamburger and fries which took 20 minutes. The guy was friendly and chatty but I wish he was more efficient. Also bought a bottle of Mexican soda but it was flat and there was dirt or some stain around the rim. Scary.

Bob B.

Yelp
this place has been there forever but it's slowly gone downhill. it's run by a nice family but i just don't think they care anymore. too much competition. the place is filthy. the soda & ice cream are warm & the burgers are cold & undercooked. the guy who works at night behind the deli is always drunk & high. the other cashier guys are always on their phones & act like you're interrupting them if you want to buy a pack of cigs. and it's filthy & smells bad in there & almost everything is expired. goodbye !
